Many new and factory radios require a reset code when disconnected from battery power. This is an anti-theft feature. Before unplugging power, you must determine if your radio/source unit requires a reset code. Check the operation manual for your vehicle or contact the dealer. Be prepared to disarm your vehicle’s alarm and to enter your radio/source unit code after re-connecting the battery.

It is critical to use the proper power and ground cable for your HIFONICS BRX316.4 amplifier. Always use high quality copper cable. The required sizes are as follows:

1. Disconnect negative battery terminal: Before you begin, disconnect the negative battery terminal and place it in a secure position so that it won’t accidentally contact the negative battery post.

2. Run Cables: Properly route the power, speaker, and RCA cables through the vehicle.

3. Mount Amplifier: Choose a mounting location that will provide adequate air ventilation. Mount the HIFONICS BRX316.4 to a secure surface. Do not mount the amplifier upside down.

The chassis ground connection is critical to the performance of the HIFONICS BRX316.4. Follow these steps:

1. Choose a location that is close to the amplifier.

2. Completely scrape away the paint to expose the bare metal.

3. Use a nut and bolt if possible to secure the ground connection.

CAUTION: DO NOT USE AN EXISTING FACTORY BOLT!

Negative Power Connection: Attach the chassis ground cable to the amplifier negative (GND) terminal. It is important to make sure this connection is very tight.

Remote Turn-on Connection: Attach the remote turn-on wire to the amplifier remote (REM) terminal. This wire comes from the remote output of your source unit.

Positive Power Connection: Attach the main power cable from the battery to the amplifier +12V terminal. The cable must be properly fused and the connection must be very tight.

Connect the RCA cables from your source unit to the INPUT connectors on the HIFONICS BRX316.4. The OUTPUT RCA connectors can be used to provide an input signal for a second amplifier.

Connect the power cable to the positive battery terminal. The power cable must be fused within 18 inches of the battery terminal.

Re-connect the negative battery terminal, making sure it is securely tightened. Be prepared to disarm your vehicle’s alarm and to enter your radio or source unit code if required.

To wire for a stereo configuration, connect the speaker cables to the speaker output connectors on the amplifier. For the left speaker, connect its positive wire to the LEFT+ terminal and its negative wire to the LEFT- terminal. For the right speaker, connect its positive wire to the RIGHT+ terminal and its negative wire to the RIGHT- terminal.

For a bridged mono output, connect the speaker’s positive wire to the LEFT+ terminal and the speaker’s negative wire to the RIGHT- terminal on the speaker output block.

Setting the input level is a critical step to ensure your amplifier is properly adjusted to match the signal output level of your source unit. This is not a volume control. Follow these steps:

1. Before starting, turn the LEVEL control on the HIFONICS BRX316.4 completely counter-clockwise to its minimum setting (9V).

2. If possible, with the source unit off, confirm that the primary volume control is turned down (counter-clockwise).

3. Turn on the source unit (CD or MP3 player). Re-confirm that the volume is turned down. Make sure the source unit controls (balance, fader, bass, and treble) are all set to the center or “0” adjustment. Make sure that the green LED on the end of the amplifier is illuminated.

4. Play a clean musical selection of which you are very familiar. A CD is preferred. Do not use radio signals for level setting. Hit play and start turning the volume of the source unit up.

5. Stop increasing the source unit volume when you reach 3/4 (about 75%) or until you hear the speakers begin to slightly produce distortion.

6. Increase the amplifier level (clockwise) until distortion is heard, then back the level down (counter-clockwise) until the distortion is eliminated. Small adjustments may need to be made to balance the levels of multiple amplifiers.

Input Mode: This switch will “sum” or combine the right and left channel signals in the MONO position to improve bass performance. Select MONO only when the amp is being used for subwoofers. Otherwise, use STEREO.

Xover Mode (Crossover Mode): This switch sets the type of crossover that will be active. The options are:

• FULL: Full range signal is passed to the speakers.

• HP (High Pass): Filters out low frequencies.

• LP (Low Pass): Filters out high frequencies.

High Pass Adjustment (HPF): This control will limit the output below the selected frequency (60Hz – 1.3KHz). This is typically used to protect midrange and high-frequency speakers from damage and to allow a smooth transition from a subwoofer.

Low Pass Adjustment (LPF): This control will limit the output above the selected frequency (35Hz – 250Hz). This is used to allow a smooth transition to the higher frequency speakers.

Bass Boost: The Bass EQ control will increase the power output at 45Hz for more pronounced bass (0 to 10dB). Exercise caution when using this control. Increase the level in small amounts until distortion is noticed, then back off a little.

Remote Level Control: If your model includes a bass remote, avoid adjusting the bass remote while operating the vehicle.
