Please adhere to the following safety instructions when installing and using your HARBOR BREEZE 43342:

To reduce the risk of electric shock, ensure electricity has been turned off at the circuit breaker or fuse box before beginning.

All wiring must be in accordance with the National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA 70-1999 and local electrical codes. Electrical installation should be performed by a qualified licensed electrician.

The outlet box and support structure must be securely mounted and capable of reliably supporting a minimum of 35 lbs. (15.9 kg). Use only UL Listed outlet boxes marked “Acceptable for Fan Support of 35 lbs. (15.9 kg) or less.”

The HARBOR BREEZE 43342 fan must be mounted with a minimum of 7 ft. (2.1 m) clearance from the trailing edge of the blades to the floor.

Do not operate the reversing switch while the fan blades are in motion. You must turn the fan off and stop the blades before you reverse the blade direction.

Do not place objects in the path of the blades.

To avoid personal injury or damage to the fan and other items, be cautious when working around or cleaning the fan.

Electrical diagrams are for reference only. Light kits that are not packed with the fan must be UL-listed and marked suitable for use with the model fan you are installing.

After making electrical connections, spliced conductors should be turned upward and pushed carefully up into the outlet box. The wires should be spread apart with the grounded conductor and the equipment-grounding conductor on one side of the outlet box and the ungrounded conductor on the other side of the outlet box.

All set screws must be checked and retightened where necessary before installation.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury, do not bend the blade brackets when installing the brackets, balancing the blades, or cleaning the fan. Do not insert foreign objects in between rotating fan blades.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not use this fan with any solid-state speed control device.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or personal injury, mount to outlet box marked ‘acceptable for fan support of 35 lbs. (15.9 kg) or less’ and use screws provided with the outlet box.

CAUTION: To reduce the risk of personal injury, use only the screws provided with the outlet box.

CAUTION: The remote control for the HARBOR BREEZE 43342 is not equipped with a wall control. Do not use a wall control with the remote.

CAUTION: Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment.

Before beginning assembly of the HARBOR BREEZE 43342, ensure all parts are present. The estimated assembly time is 90 minutes.

Before you begin installation, disconnect the power by removing fuses or turning off circuit breakers.

To choose a proper location for your HARBOR BREEZE 43342, mount the fan in a location that allows for 7 ft. of clearance from the floor to the blade tips and at least 30 in. from the blade tips to any walls or obstructions. For sloped ceilings, the angle of the slope should not exceed 16 degrees.

1. Before starting, ensure the power is off at the circuit breaker.

2. Loosen the two mounting bracket screws preassembled on the mounting bracket. Do not remove them completely.

3. Secure the mounting bracket to the outlet box (sold separately) using the screws and washers provided with your outlet box.

1. First, remove the four motor stops from the underside of the motor housing. These are for shipping purposes only and can be discarded.

2. Remove the hitch pin and clevis pin from the downrod. Then, loosen the two set screws on the downrod yoke of the motor housing.

3. Thread the fan’s electrical wires through the downrod and pull the extra wire slack through the top of the downrod.

4. Insert the downrod into the downrod yoke. Align the holes, then re-insert the clevis pin and hitch pin. Secure the hitch pin.

5. Tighten the two set screws on the downrod yoke to secure the downrod in place.

Hanging the Fan:

1. Lift the fan assembly onto the mounting bracket that is attached to the outlet box.

2. Ensure the tab on the mounting bracket is properly seated in the groove in the downrod ball.

Installing the Receiver:

1. Insert the receiver into the mounting bracket with the flat side of the receiver facing the ceiling.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock, disconnect electricity before wiring.

Follow these steps to wire your HARBOR BREEZE 43342 fan, using the provided wire connectors:

1. Connect the GREEN wires from the fan, downrod, and mounting bracket to the BARE/GREEN (ground) wire from the outlet box.

2. Connect the BLUE wire from the receiver to the BLUE wire from the fan.

3. Connect the BLACK wire from the receiver to the BLACK wire from the fan.

4. Connect the WHITE wire from the receiver (marked “FOR FAN”) to the WHITE wire from the fan.

5. Connect the BLACK wire from the receiver (marked “AC IN L”) to the BLACK (hot/live) wire from the outlet box.

6. Connect the WHITE wire from the receiver (marked “AC IN N”) to the WHITE (neutral) wire from the outlet box.

After connecting the wires, spread them apart so that the green and white wires are on one side of the outlet box and the black and blue wires are on the other side. Carefully tuck the connections up into the outlet box.

1. Slide the canopy up to the ceiling, over the mounting bracket.

2. Place one of the keyholes of the canopy over one of the pre-installed mounting bracket screws, then turn the canopy to lock it in place.

3. Insert one of the canopy screws (removed earlier) into the remaining hole and tighten both screws securely.

4. Slide the canopy cover up to the canopy and turn it clockwise until it locks into position.

1. Insert a blade through a blade slot in the side of the motor housing.

2. Align the holes of a blade arm with the blade holes and motor housing holes.

3. Secure the blade arm and blade using three blade screws and blade washers. Start the screws but do not tighten them yet.

4. Repeat this process for the remaining four blades.

5. Once all blades are attached, securely tighten all screws.

Installing the Light Kit Fitter Plate:

1. Remove one of the three light kit mounting screws from the black bracket on the motor housing and loosen the other two screws.

2. Feed the fan’s wire plug through the center hole of the light kit fitter plate. Align the keyhole slots in the light kit fitter plate with the two loosened screws.

3. Rotate the plate to engage the screws, then re-install the third screw and tighten all three screws securely.

Installing the Light Kit:

1. Remove one of the three screws from the light kit fitter plate and loosen the other two.

2. Connect the wire plug from the fan to the wire plug from the light kit.

3. Align the keyhole slots of the light kit with the two loosened screws on the fitter plate. Rotate the light kit to engage the screws.

4. Re-install the third screw and tighten all three screws securely.

Installing Bulbs and Glass Shade:

1. Install two E26-base, A19, 8.5-watt LED bulbs (included) into the light kit sockets.

2. Lift the glass shade into the light kit and turn it clockwise until it is secure. Do not overtighten.

The remote control for the HARBOR BREEZE 43342 has the following functions:

HIGH button: Press to turn the fan on at high speed.

MEDIUM button: Press to turn the fan on at medium speed.

LOW button: Press to turn the fan on at low speed.

FAN OFF button: Press to turn the fan off.

LIGHT button: Press and release this button to turn the light on or off. To dim the lights, press and hold the button; the light will cycle from bright to dim to bright. Release the button when the desired brightness is reached.

BREEZE button: Press this button to activate the Breeze mode. The fan speed will randomly alter between high, medium, and low speeds, simulating a natural breeze. To cancel this mode, press any of the fan speed buttons (HIGH, MEDIUM, LOW) or the FAN OFF button.

The reverse switch on the HARBOR BREEZE 43342 is located on the top of the motor housing. Before changing the direction, turn the fan off and wait for the blades to stop rotating.

Warm weather operation (Forward/Counter-clockwise): For a cooling effect, slide the switch to the LEFT. This creates a downward airflow.

Cool weather operation (Reverse/Clockwise): To help circulate warm air, slide the switch to the RIGHT. This creates an upward airflow that moves warm air from the ceiling area.

The remote control for your HARBOR BREEZE 43342 has a learning function to pair it with the receiver. Follow these steps:

1. After installation, restore power to the fan.

2. Within 30 seconds of restoring power, press and hold the HIGH speed button and the LOW speed button on the remote simultaneously for 5 seconds.

3. The fan will then turn on at medium speed and the light will turn on. This confirms that the learning process is successful and the remote is paired.

Note: If you press any other button before the HIGH and LOW buttons, the learning process will fail.

To prevent interference with other remote controls, you can change the code on your HARBOR BREEZE 43342 remote and receiver. The DIP switches are located in the battery compartment of the remote transmitter and on the receiver.

1. Slide the DIP switches to a new position. Make sure the DIP switch positions on both the remote transmitter and the receiver match exactly.

2. If they do not match, the remote will not function.

To properly maintain your HARBOR BREEZE 43342 fan, follow these tips:

At least twice each year, lower the canopy to check the downrod assembly, and then tighten all screws on the fan.

Clean the motor housing with a soft brush or lint-free cloth to avoid scratching the finish.

Clean the blades with a lint-free cloth. You can apply a light coat of furniture polish to the wood blades for additional protection.

There is no need to oil your fan. The motor has permanently lubricated bearings.

Before you attempt any cleaning or repairs, make sure the power is turned off at the main fuse or circuit breaker box.

If your HARBOR BREEZE 43342 fan does not move, try the following solutions:

Check the main and branch circuit fuses or breakers to ensure power is on.

Check the line wire connections to the fan and switch wire connections in the switch housing.

Check the battery in the remote control.

Ensure the DIP switches for the remote and receiver are set to the same position.

Make sure the receiver is wired correctly.

If your HARBOR BREEZE 43342 fan is noisy, please check the following:

Ensure all motor housing screws are snug.

Ensure the screws that attach the fan blade bracket to the motor hub are tight.

Ensure wire nut connections are not rattling against each other or the interior wall of the switch housing.

Allow a 24-hour “breaking-in” period. Most noises associated with a new fan disappear during this time.

Ensure the canopy is a short distance from the ceiling. It should not touch the ceiling.

Check that the blade arms are not bent, which can cause wobble and noise.

Check that all blades are screwed firmly into the blade arms and that all blade arm screws are tightened.

If your HARBOR BREEZE 43342 fan wobbles, perform these checks:

Check that all blades and blade arm screws are secure. Do not bend blade arms when installing.

Most fan wobble problems are caused when blade levels are unequal. To check the blade level, select a point on the ceiling above the tip of one of the blades. Measure this distance. Rotate the fan until the next blade is positioned for measurement. Repeat for each blade. The measurement deviation should be within 1/8 in. If the wobble is still noticeable, a blade balancing kit has been provided. Interchange two adjacent blades to see if this redistributes the weight.

If the light kit on your HARBOR BREEZE 43342 is not working, try these steps:

Check the light bulbs to make sure they are installed correctly and are not burned out.

Check the wire connection in the switch housing.

Ensure the receiver is wired correctly.

If the remote control for your HARBOR BREEZE 43342 is not functioning, follow these suggestions:

Make sure the battery is installed correctly, with the + and – symbols aligned properly.

Install a fresh battery.

Make sure the DIP switches on both the remote and the receiver are set to the exact same positions.
