To ensure safe installation and operation of the HAMPTON BAY YG529-NI, follow these guidelines:

1. To reduce the risk of electric shock, ensure electricity has been turned off at the circuit breaker or fuse box before beginning.

2. All wiring must be in accordance with the National Electrical Code “ANSI/NFPA 70-1999” and local electrical codes. Electrical installation should be performed by a qualified licensed electrician.

3. The outlet box and support structure must be securely mounted and capable of reliably supporting a minimum of 35 lbs (15.9 kg). Use only UL-listed outlet boxes marked “FOR FAN SUPPORT.”

4. The fan must be mounted with a minimum of 7 ft. clearance from the trailing edge of the blades to the floor.

5. Avoid placing objects in the path of the blades.

6. To avoid personal injury or damage to the fan and other items, be cautious when working around or cleaning the fan.

7. Do not use water or detergents when cleaning the fan or fan blades. A dry dust cloth or lightly dampened cloth will be suitable for most cleaning.

8. After making electrical connections, spliced conductors should be turned upward and pushed carefully up into the outlet box. The wires should be spread apart with the grounded conductor and the equipment-grounding conductor on one side of the outlet box and ungrounded conductor on the other side of the outlet box.

9. All setscrews must be checked and retightened where necessary before installation.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of electrical shock or fire, do not use this fan with any solid-state fan speed control device. It will permanently damage the electronic circuitry.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury, do not bend the blade arms (also referred to as flanges), when installing the brackets, balancing the blades or cleaning the fan.

WARNING: Do not insert foreign objects between rotating fan blades.

The HAMPTON BAY YG529-NI comes with the following components:

The HAMPTON BAY YG529-NI is supplied with two types of hanging assemblies:

Standard Ceiling Mounting: Uses the downrod with ball and socket mounting. When using this installation, the distance from the ceiling to the bottom of the fan blades will be approximately 12 inches.

Close-to-Ceiling Mounting: Recommended in rooms with less than 8 ft. ceilings or in areas where additional space is desired from the floor to the fan blades. This installation reduces the distance from the ceiling to the bottom of the fan blades to approximately 9 inches.

Follow these steps to prepare the HAMPTON BAY YG529-NI for standard mounting:

Step 1. Remove the canopy ring from the canopy.

Step 2. Remove the two non-slotted mounting bracket screws from the canopy and loosen the slotted mounting bracket screws on the canopy.

Step 3. Remove the canopy from the mounting bracket by turning the canopy counterclockwise.

Step 4. Remove the cotter pin and clevis pin, and loosen the two collar setscrews from the fan motor assembly collar.

Step 5. Route the wires exiting from the top of the fan motor assembly through the coupling cover. Ensure the slot openings are on top.

Step 6. Route the wires through the coupling cover, canopy ring, canopy, and then through the hanger ball/downrod assembly.

Step 7. Align the holes at the bottom of the hanger ball/downrod assembly with the holes in the collar on top of the fan motor assembly.

Step 8. Carefully insert the clevis pin through the holes in the collar and the hanger ball/downrod assembly. Be careful not to jam the clevis pin against the wiring inside.

Step 9. Insert the cotter pin through the hole near the end of the clevis pin until it snaps into the locked position.

Step 10. Firmly tighten the two collar setscrews on top of the fan motor assembly.

Follow these steps to prepare the HAMPTON BAY YG529-NI for close-to-ceiling installation:

Step 1. Remove the canopy ring from the canopy.

Step 2. Remove the mounting bracket from the canopy by loosening the four canopy mounting bracket screws on the top of the canopy. Remove the two non-slotted canopy mounting bracket screws and loosen the slotted canopy mounting bracket screws.

Step 3. Remove the canopy bottom cover from the canopy.

Step 4. Remove three of the six collar mounting screws with lock washers (every other one) from the collar on top of the fan motor assembly.

Step 5. Make sure the slot openings of the canopy ring are on top, then place the canopy ring and canopy over the collar at the top of the fan motor assembly.

Step 6. Align the mounting holes in the bottom of the canopy with the holes in the top of the fan motor assembly. Fasten using the three collar mounting screws with lock washers previously removed.

Step 7. Tighten the collar mounting screws securely.

WARNING: Failure to completely tighten the three collar mounting screws could result in the fan becoming loose and possibly falling.

Follow these steps to connect the HAMPTON BAY YG529-NI to your household wiring using plastic wire nuts:

Step 1. Connect the ground conductor of the 120V supply (bare wire or green wire) to the green ground leads of the fan. There are two green grounding leads: one from the mounting bracket and one from the hanger ball/downrod assembly.

Step 2. Connect the fan motor white wire to the supply white (neutral) wire using a plastic wire nut.

Step 3. Connect the fan motor black wire and the blue wire to the supply black (hot) wire using a plastic wire nut.

Step 4. Secure the plastic wire nuts with electrical tape.

Step 5. Turn the wire nut connections upward, spreading them apart so the green ground wire will be on one side of the outlet box and the white, black, and blue wires will be on the other side. Carefully tuck the connections up into the outlet box.

WARNING: Check to see that all connections are tight, including ground, and that no bare wire is visible at the wire nuts (except for the ground wire).

Follow these instructions to attach the blades to the blade arms for the HAMPTON BAY YG529-NI:

Step 1. Remove the five rubber packing mounts from the fan motor assembly and discard them. These are only for protection during transportation.

Step 2. Hold the blade with hands close to the blade arm, align the key-slot holes with the blade arm posts, and press the blade down firmly. Ensure the key-slot holes are properly seated on the blade arm posts.

Step 3. Firmly slide the blade away from the blade arm until the blade engages in the spring locking mechanism. Ensure the spring is upward and the butt of the mechanism is against the edge of the blade.

Step 4. Fasten the blade assemblies to the fan motor assembly by lining up the slots of the motor with the tabs on the blade arms.

Step 5. Tighten the two blade arm screws with lock washers already installed in the blade arms.

Step 6. Repeat this procedure for the remaining blade arms.

WARNING: Failure to properly seat the blades and engage the spring locking mechanism could result in the fan blades loosening and possibly falling.

The HAMPTON BAY YG529-NI uses a pull chain to control speeds and a reverse switch for seasonal operation:

Pull Chain Settings:

1 pull: High Speed

2 pulls: Medium Speed

3 pulls: Low Speed

4 pulls: Off

Reverse Switch Settings:

Warm Weather (Counterclockwise): Slide the switch to the left for a downward airflow that creates a cooling effect.

Cool Weather (Clockwise): Slide the switch to the right for an upward airflow that moves warm air off the ceiling.

Note: Wait for the fan to stop completely before reversing the direction of the blade rotation.

To keep your HAMPTON BAY YG529-NI in good condition, follow these maintenance tips:

Check support connections, brackets, and blade attachments twice a year to ensure they are secure. Connections may become loose over time due to the fan’s natural movement.

Clean your fan periodically using only a soft brush or lint-free cloth to avoid scratching the finish. The plating is sealed with a lacquer to minimize discoloration.

(Optional) Apply a light coat of furniture polish to the wood blades.

(Optional) Cover small scratches with a light application of shoe polish.

Do NOT use water when cleaning, as it could damage the motor or the wood, or cause an electrical shock.

Do NOT apply oil to your fan or motor. The motor has permanently-lubricated sealed ball bearings.

If your HAMPTON BAY YG529-NI fan wobbles, follow these steps:

Step 1. Verify that all blades and blade bracket screws are secure. Most wobble problems are caused by loose parts.

Step 2. Run the ceiling fan for 10 minutes to let it self-adjust.

Step 3. If wobble continues, verify blade level by selecting a point on the ceiling above the tip of one blade. Measure from the center of the blade to that point. Rotate the fan and repeat the measurement for every blade. Deviations should be within 1/8 inch.

Step 4. If all deviations are less than 1/8 inch but wobble persists, use a Blade Balancing Kit.

Step 5. If any deviation is greater than 1/8 inch, contact customer service for replacement brackets.
