The GARMIN NUVI 1390 has the following features:

The Main Menu of your GARMIN NUVI 1390 has several functions:

1. **GPS satellite strength:** Shows the current strength of the satellite signal.

2. **Bluetooth technology status:** Indicates if Bluetooth is active and connected.

3. **Usage mode:** Touch to select a usage mode (e.g., Automobile, Pedestrian).

4. **Current time:** Touch to change time settings.

5. **Battery status:** Shows the current battery level.

6. **Where To?:** Touch to find a destination.

7. **View Map:** Touch to view the map.

8. **Phone:** Touch to make a call when connected to a compatible mobile phone.

9. **Volume:** Touch to adjust the volume.

10. **Tools:** Touch to use tools such as settings and Help.

To mount your GARMIN NUVI 1390 on the windshield:

1. Remove the clear plastic from the suction cup. Place the suction cup on the windshield.

2. Flip the lever back toward the windshield to secure it.

3. Snap the cradle onto the suction cup arm.

4. Plug the vehicle power cable into the back of your nüvi.

5. Plug the other end of the vehicle power cable into a power outlet in your vehicle. The unit should turn on automatically if it is plugged in and the vehicle is running.

6. Fit the bottom of your nüvi into the cradle.

7. Tilt your nüvi back until it snaps into place.

To mount on your dashboard, use the enclosed mounting disk. Clean and dry the dashboard, remove the adhesive backing from the disk, and place it on the dashboard. Place the suction cup mount on top of the disk and flip the lever down.

WARNING: This product contains a lithium-ion battery. To prevent damage, remove the unit from the vehicle when exiting or store it out of direct sunlight.

1. Go outdoors to an open area, away from tall buildings and trees.

2. Turn on your GARMIN NUVI 1390.

Acquiring satellite signals can take a few minutes. The bars on the Main menu indicate satellite strength. When at least one of the bars is green, your nüvi has acquired satellite signals.

Your GARMIN NUVI 1390 offers several usage modes (e.g., Automobile, Pedestrian, Bicycle) for different navigation methods. To change the mode:

1. From the Main menu, touch the usage mode icon on the upper-left corner.

2. Select a mode, and touch OK.

3. Touch Yes, and follow the on-screen instructions to configure your settings.

Press and quickly release the Power button to view additional options:

• **Screen Brightness:** Touch the brightness icons to adjust.

• **Lock Screen:** Touch to prevent accidental screen touches.

• **Power Off:** Touch to turn off your nüvi.

You can also turn off the device by holding the power button for approximately three seconds.

If your GARMIN NUVI 1390 stops functioning, reset it by pressing and holding the Power button until it restarts.

1. From the Main menu, touch **Where To?**.

2. Select a category, such as Address, Points of Interest, or Recently Found.

3. Select a subcategory if necessary.

4. Select a destination from the list.

5. Touch **Go!** to start navigation.

• **Add a Stop:** While navigating, touch the top bar > Where To?. Search for the extra stop, touch Go!, and then touch **Add as Via Point**.

• **Change Destination:** While navigating, touch the top bar > Where To?. Search for the new stop, touch Go!, and then touch **Set as New Destination**.

• **Take a Detour:** While navigating, touch the top bar. Touch the detour icon.

• **Stop the Route:** With a route active, touch **Menu**, then touch **Stop**.

To set your home location for the first time:

1. Touch **Where To?** > **Go Home**.

2. Select an option: Enter your address, use your current location, or choose from a list of recently found locations.

To change an existing home location:

1. Touch **Tools** > **My Data** > **Set Home Location**.

2. Select an option to set the new location.

To navigate home, simply touch **Where To?** > **Go Home**.

**Saving a Place:**

• From the Go! page after selecting a location, touch **Save**. Touch **OK**. The place is saved in Favorites.

• From the Map page, touch the vehicle icon, then touch **Save Location**.

**Finding a Saved Place:**

• Touch **Where To?** > **Favorites**. Select a category to see your saved locations.

**Editing a Saved Place:**

1. Touch **Where To?** > **Favorites**.

2. Select the category and the location you want to edit.

3. Touch **Edit**.

4. Touch an item to edit: Change Name, Attach Photo, Change Map Symbol, or Change Phone Number.

You can create and save up to 10 routes on your GARMIN NUVI 1390.

1. With a route active, touch **Where to?** (or **Tools**) > **Routes** > **New**.

2. Touch **Add New Start Point**. Find a location for your starting point and touch **Select**.

3. Touch **Add New End Point**. Find a location for your ending point and touch **Select**.

4. Touch the **+** icon to add another location to your route. Touch the **-** icon to remove a location.

5. Touch **Next** to calculate your route and view it on the map.

6. Touch **Save** to save the route and exit.

To use a saved route, touch **Where to?** > **Routes**, select the route, and touch **Go!**.

The map page provides various tools and information:

1. **Next turn indicator:** Touch to view the next turn in detail.

2. **Turn list:** Touch the text bar at the top to view the full turn list for your route.

3. **Zoom controls:** Touch to zoom in and out.

4. **Back button:** Touch to return to the Main menu.

5. **Data field:** Touch to display a different data field (e.g., arrival time, distance).

6. **Vehicle icon:** Touch to view the “Where Am I?” page.

7. **Trip computer:** Touch the Speed field to view the trip computer.

The GARMIN NUVI 1390 also includes **Lane Assist** and **Junction View**, which show you which lane to be in for an upcoming maneuver or exit.

To pair and connect, your phone and the GARMIN NUVI 1390 must be turned on and be within 33 ft. (10 m) of each other.

1. From the Main menu on your nüvi, touch **Tools** > **Settings** > **Bluetooth**.

2. Touch **Add**.

3. Enable the Bluetooth component on your phone and set it to Find Me/Discoverable/Visible mode. These settings might be in a Bluetooth, Connections, or Hands-free menu on your phone.

4. Touch **OK** on the nüvi.

5. Select your phone from the list on the nüvi, and touch **OK**.

6. Enter the nüvi Bluetooth PIN (1234) in your phone when prompted.

**Receiving a Call:**

When you get a call, the Incoming Call window opens. Touch **Answer** to answer the call or **Ignore** to decline it.

**Making a Call:**

From the Main menu, touch **Phone** to access the Phone menu. You can make calls in several ways:

• **Phone Book:** Touch **Phone Book**, select a contact, and touch **Call**.

• **Call History:** Touch **Call History**, select a category, an entry, and touch **Dial**.

• **Points of Interest:** Touch **Points of Interest**, search for a location with a phone number, and touch **Call**.

• **Dial:** Touch **Dial**, enter the number, and touch **Dial**.

• **Voice Dial:** Touch **Voice Dial** and speak the contact’s name (your phone must support this feature).

**Connecting to a Computer:**

1. Insert a memory card (optional).

2. Connect the mini-USB connector to the back of the GARMIN NUVI 1390.

3. Connect the larger end of the cable to an available USB port on your computer.

Your nüvi and memory card will appear as removable drives on your computer.

**Transferring Files:**

1. Browse your computer for the file you want to copy.

2. Highlight the file and select Edit > Copy.

3. Open the “Garmin” or memory card drive/volume.

4. Select Edit > Paste. The file will appear in the list.

**Deleting Files:**

1. Connect the nüvi to your computer.

2. Highlight the file you want to delete.

3. Press the Delete key on your computer keyboard.

CAUTION: If you do not know the purpose of a file, do not delete it. Your nüvi memory contains important system files that should not be deleted.

The ecoRoute feature calculates your vehicle fuel economy, carbon footprint, and the fuel price of navigating to a destination. To access it, touch **Tools** > **ecoRoute**.

• **Vehicle Profile:** Enter your vehicle’s fuel type and fuel efficiency (city and highway).

• **Fuel Price:** Enter the current fuel price to calculate the cost of routes.

• **Calibrate Fuel Economy:** To get more accurate reports, calculate your vehicle’s actual miles per gallon and enter it by going to **Fuel Report > Calibrate**.

• **Driving Challenge:** Touch **Driving Challenge > Start** to score your driving habits on acceleration, deceleration, and speed to help you maximize fuel economy.

• **Fuel/Mileage Report:** View reports on your fuel consumption, carbon footprint, cost, and distance traveled.

Your GARMIN NUVI 1390 can receive FM TMC (Traffic Message Channel) content with a compatible traffic receiver. To receive traffic information, the receiver must be connected to the nüvi and to an external power source.

When traffic is detected, a traffic icon appears on the map. The icon’s color indicates the severity of traffic conditions.

To manage traffic:

• **Automatic Rerouting:** The nüvi automatically optimizes your route for the shortest time, and will recalculate if a severe delay occurs.

• **Manually Avoid Traffic:** On the Map page, touch the traffic icon, touch **Traffic On Route**, and then touch **Avoid** to avoid the delay.

• **View Traffic Map:** Touch the traffic icon, then **Show Traffic Map** to view color-coded traffic flow on nearby roads.

Touch **Tools** > **Settings** to access customization options.

• **System:** Change usage mode, keyboard layout (QWERTY or ABCDE), and measurement units (Miles or Kilometers).

• **Navigation:** Adjust Route Preference (Faster Time, Shorter Distance, Less Fuel), and select road types to avoid.

• **Display:** Adjust Color Mode (Day, Night, Auto) and Brightness.

• **Time:** Select a time format and set the current time.

• **Language:** Change the Voice Language, Text Language, and Keyboard language.

• **Map:** Adjust Map View (Track Up, North Up), Map Detail, and Vehicle icon.

• **Security:** Turn on Garmin Lock, a PIN-based security feature.

• **Bluetooth:** Manage paired phones and other Bluetooth settings.

**To Clear All User Data (Favorites, trip logs, etc.):**

1. Turn the GARMIN NUVI 1390 off.

2. Hold your finger on the lower-right corner of the screen while turning the nüvi on.

3. Keep your finger pressed until a pop-up window appears asking if you want to clear all user data.

4. Touch **Yes**. All original settings are restored, and any items you have saved are erased.

**To Restore All Settings (without deleting user data):**

1. From the Main menu, touch **Tools** > **Settings**.

2. Touch **Restore**.

3. Touch **Yes**.

**Caring for the Device:**

• **Cleaning the Unit:** Clean the outer casing (not the touchscreen) using a cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution, then wipe it dry. Avoid chemical cleaners.

• **Cleaning the Touchscreen:** Clean the touchscreen with a soft, clean, lint-free cloth. Use water, isopropyl alcohol, or eyeglass cleaner if needed. Apply the liquid to the cloth, not directly to the screen.

• **Temperature:** Do not store the nüvi where prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures can occur, as it can cause permanent damage.

**Charging the Device:**

Charge your nüvi for at least 4 hours before using on battery power. You can charge it by:

• Connecting the vehicle power cable.

• Connecting the USB cable (included in some packages) to a computer.

• Connecting an AC adapter (optional accessory).

To increase the accuracy of the battery gauge, fully discharge the battery and then fully charge it without interruption.

The GARMIN NUVI 1390 is part of the nüvi 1300 Series.

Take your GARMIN NUVI 1390 out of parking garages and away from tall buildings and trees. Remain stationary for several minutes to allow the device to acquire signals.

Clean the suction cup and windshield with rubbing alcohol. Dry with a clean, dry cloth. Mount the suction cup as described in the mounting instructions.

Check the fuse in the vehicle power cable. Ensure the vehicle is turned on and is supplying power to the power outlet. Your GARMIN NUVI 1390 can only charge between 32°F and 113°F (0°C and 45°C). If the device is in direct sunlight or in a hot environment, it cannot charge.

To maximize the time between charges, turn down the backlight. Touch **Tools** > **Settings** > **Display** > **Brightness**.

You may need to calibrate the touchscreen. To do this:

1. Turn off the nüvi.

2. Hold the upper-left corner of the screen while turning on the nüvi.

3. Release the Power button when the Garmin screen appears.

4. Continue to hold the upper-left corner of the touch screen for 30 seconds until a white screen with “Press dot” appears. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the calibration.

Ensure you have a GARMIN NUVI 1390 with Bluetooth. Touch **Tools** > **Settings** > **Bluetooth**. Verify that the Bluetooth field is set to **Enabled**. Ensure your phone is turned on and is less than 33 feet (about 10 meters) away from your nüvi.
