The GARMIN NUVI 1250 includes the following features:

The exterior of your GARMIN NUVI 1250 has the following components:

Top: Power button (Press to turn the nüvi on and off).

Back: Speaker and Mini-USB connector.

Side: microSD™ card slot.

Front: Microphone.

The icons on the Main Menu of your GARMIN NUVI 1250 represent the following:

1. GPS satellite strength: Shows the strength of the satellite signal.

2. Bluetooth technology status: Indicates Bluetooth status (feature available on some models).

3. Usage mode: Touch to select a usage mode (e.g., Automobile, Pedestrian).

4. Current time: Touch to change time settings.

5. Battery status: Shows the current battery level.

6. Where To?: Touch to find a destination.

7. View Map: Touch to view the map.

8. Phone: Touch to make a call when connected to a compatible mobile phone (feature available on some models).

9. Volume: Touch to adjust the volume.

10. Tools: Touch to use tools such as settings and Help.

To mount your GARMIN NUVI 1250, follow these steps:

1. Remove the clear plastic from the suction cup. Place the suction cup on the windshield.

2. Flip the lever back toward the windshield.

3. Snap the cradle onto the suction cup arm.

4. Plug the vehicle power cable into the back of your nüvi.

5. Plug the other end of the vehicle power cable into a power outlet in your vehicle. Your unit should turn on automatically if it is plugged in and the vehicle is running. Follow the on-screen instructions.

6. Fit the bottom of your nüvi into the cradle.

7. Tilt your nüvi back until it snaps into place.

WARNING: This product contains a lithium-ion battery. To prevent damage, remove the unit from the vehicle when exiting or store it out of direct sunlight.

1. Go outdoors to an open area, away from tall buildings and trees.

2. Turn on your GARMIN NUVI 1250.

Acquiring satellite signals can take a few minutes. The bars indicate satellite strength. When at least one of the bars is green, your nüvi has acquired satellite signals.

Your GARMIN NUVI 1250 offers several usage modes (Automobile, Pedestrian, Bicycle) for different navigation methods. To change your usage mode:

1. From the Main menu, touch the usage mode icon on the upper-left corner.

2. Select a mode, and touch OK.

3. Touch Yes, and follow the on-screen instructions to configure your settings.

If you are not following roadways as you navigate, use Off Road mode. Touch Tools > Settings > Navigation > Route Preference > Off Road > OK.

Press and quickly release the Power button on your GARMIN NUVI 1250 to view additional options:

• Touch the brightness icons to adjust the screen brightness.

• Touch Lock Screen to prevent accidental screen touches.

• Touch Power Off to turn off your nüvi. You can also turn off the nüvi by holding the power button for approximately three seconds.

If your GARMIN NUVI 1250 stops functioning, reset your nüvi by pressing and holding the Power button.

From the Main menu, touch Volume. Touch the plus and minus icons to adjust the volume. Touch the box next to Mute to mute all audio.

1. Touch Where To?.

2. Select a category (e.g., Address, Points of Interest).

3. Select a subcategory, if necessary.

4. Select a destination from the list.

5. Touch Go!.

1. While navigating a route, touch the menu icon > Where To?.

2. Search for the extra stop.

3. Touch Go!.

4. Touch Add as Via Point to add this stop before your final destination.

1. While navigating a route, touch the menu icon > Where To?.

2. Search for the extra stop.

4. Touch Set as New Destination to make this your final destination.

1. While navigating a route, touch the menu icon.

2. Touch the detour icon.

If the route you are currently taking is the only reasonable option, the nüvi might not calculate a detour.

1. With a route active, touch Menu.

2. Touch Stop.

1. Touch Where To? > Address.

2. Change the state, country, or province, if necessary.

3. Touch Search All.

4. Enter the number of the address, and touch Done.

5. Enter the street name, and touch Done.

6. Select the correct street in the list, if necessary.

7. Touch the address, if necessary.

Setting a Home Location:

1. Touch Where To? > Go Home.

2. Select an option:

• Enter your address.

• Use your current location.

• Choose from a list of recently found locations.

Going Home:

To navigate home after you have set your home location, touch Where To? > Go Home.

After you have selected a location to navigate to, the Go! page opens. Here are its functions:

1. Information Box: Touch to view more information for the location.

2. Zoom Icons (+ and -): Touch to zoom in and out.

3. Call: Touch to call this location when connected to a phone (not applicable to all models).

4. Save: Touch to save this location to your Favorites.

5. Go!: Touch to create a turn-by-turn route to this location.

6. Back Arrow: Touch to return to the previous page. Touch and hold to return to the Main menu.

1. On the Go! page, touch the white information box for the location.

2. Touch Feedback for the following options:

• Edit Rating: Touch a circle to give the point of interest (POI) a rating from 1 to 5 stars.

• Report Error: The item will be removed from future searches. Reports will be sent to Garmin when your nüvi is connected to a computer.

• Edit Phone Number: Use the keyboard to change the phone number.

1. Touch Where To? > Points of Interest > Spell Name.

2. Using the on-screen keyboard, enter letters of the name of your destination.

3. Touch Done.

1. Touch Where To? > Near.

2. Select an option:

• Where I Am Now: search near your current location.

• A Different City: search near the city you enter.

• A Recent Destination: search near a recent destination.

• A Favorite Destination: select a destination from Favorites.

• My Current Route: search along your active route.

• My Destination: search near your current destination.

Saving Places You Find:

1. From the Go! page, touch Save.

2. Touch OK. The place is saved in Favorites.

Finding Saved Places (Favorites):

1. Touch Where To? > Favorites.

2. Select a category. Your saved locations are listed.

Editing Saved Places:

1. Touch Where To? > Favorites.

2. Select the category and the location you want to edit.

3. Touch Edit.

4. Touch an item to edit, such as Change Name, Attach Photo, or Change Map Symbol.

On some models, you can use your nüvi to create and save routes. You can save up to 10 routes.

1. With a route active, touch Where to? (or Tools) > Routes > New.

2. Touch Add New Start Point.

3. Find a location as your starting point, and touch Select.

4. Touch Add New End Point.

5. Find a location as your ending point, and touch Select.

6. Touch the plus icon to add another location to your route. Touch the minus icon to remove a location.

7. Touch Next to calculate your route and view it on the map.

8. Touch Save to save the route and exit.

Use the Browse Map page to view different parts of the map. Touch Where To? > Browse Map.

Tips for Browsing the Map:

• Touch the map, and drag to view different parts of the map.

• Touch plus and minus to zoom in and out.

• Touch any object on the map. An arrow appears, pointing at the object, and a box displays information on the location.

1. Touch Where To? > Coordinates.

2. Touch the coordinate you want to adjust.

3. Touch Format to select the correct coordinate format for the type of map you are using.

4. Enter the coordinates, and touch Next.

The map page on your GARMIN NUVI 1250 displays the following information:

1. Next Turn Indicator: Touch to view the next turn.

2. Turn List: Touch to view the turn list.

3. Zoom Controls: Touch to zoom in and zoom out.

4. Back Arrow: Touch to return to the Main menu.

5. Data Field: Touch to display a different data field.

6. Vehicle Icon: Touch to view the Where Am I? page.

7. Trip Computer: Touch to view the trip computer.

Your route is marked with a magenta line. A checkered flag marks your destination. A speed limit icon may also appear on major roadways.

Viewing the Trip Computer:

To view the trip computer, touch the Speed field on the map. The trip computer displays your current speed and provides statistics about your trip.

Resetting Trip Computer Information:

From the map, touch the Speed field. Touch Reset and select one of the following options:

• Reset Trip Data: Resets the information on the trip computer.

• Reset Max: Resets the maximum speed.

• Reset Fuel Price: Resets the fuel price.

1. Insert a memory card (optional). Press it in until it clicks.

2. Connect the mini-USB connector to the back of the GARMIN NUVI 1250.

3. Connect the larger end of the cable to an available USB port on your computer.

Your nüvi and memory card appear as removable drives in My Computer in Windows and as mounted volumes on Mac computers.

1. Browse your computer for the file you want to copy.

2. Highlight the file, and click Edit > Copy.

3. Open the “Garmin” or memory card drive/volume.

4. Click Edit > Paste. The file appears in the list of files in the nüvi memory or on the memory card.

5. When you are finished transferring files, safely eject the device from your computer.

6. Unplug your nüvi from your computer.

1. Connect the GARMIN NUVI 1250 to your computer, and open the nüvi or memory card drive/volume.

2. Highlight the file you want to delete.

3. Press the Delete key on the computer keyboard.

CAUTION: If you do not know the purpose of a file, do not delete it. Your nüvi memory contains important system files that should not be deleted.

The Where Am I? page displays your current location information, including nearby hospitals, police stations, and fuel stations. This feature is helpful if you need to tell emergency personnel your location.

1. From the Main menu, touch Tools > Where Am I?.

2. Touch a button on the right to view the nearest locations in that category.

3. Touch Save Location to save your current location.

Use the picture viewer to view pictures that you have stored in your GARMIN NUVI 1250 or on a memory card.

1. Touch Tools > Picture Viewer.

• Touch the arrows to scroll through the images.

2. Touch a picture to view a larger image of it.

• Touch the ‘i’ icon to view information on the selected picture.

• Touch the map and drag to view different parts of the map (if location information is available).

• Touch the back icon to hide the menu bar.

3. Use the scroll bar at the bottom of the screen to change how many pictures appear on the screen.

The ecoRoute™ feature on your GARMIN NUVI 1250 calculates your vehicle fuel economy, carbon footprint, and the fuel price of navigating to a destination. To access it, touch Tools > ecoRoute. The first time you access the ecoRoute features you will be asked to enter fuel and mileage information about your vehicle.

You can perform several functions within ecoRoute:

• View the Fuel Report: Calculates average fuel economy, carbon footprint, and cost of fuel consumed. (Tools > ecoRoute > Fuel Report)

• Calibrate the Fuel Economy: Enter your calculated miles per gallon or liters per 100km to receive more-accurate reports. (Tools > ecoRoute > Fuel Report > Calibrate)

• Adjust the Fuel Price: Enter current fuel price information. (Tools > ecoRoute > Fuel Price)

• Take the Driving Challenge: Maximizes fuel economy by scoring your driving habits. (Tools > ecoRoute > Driving Challenge > Start)

• Adjust Your Vehicle Profile: Enter fuel type, city fuel efficiency, and highway fuel efficiency. (Tools > ecoRoute > Vehicle Profile)

To receive FM TMC (Traffic Message Channel) traffic information on your GARMIN NUVI 1250, you need an optional traffic receiver accessory. When you are receiving traffic information, a traffic icon appears in the upper-left corner of the Map page. The traffic icon changes color to indicate the severity of traffic conditions:

When calculating your route, the nüvi examines the current traffic and automatically optimizes the route for the shortest time. If a severe traffic delay occurs, it automatically recalculates the route.

To change system settings, touch Tools > Settings > System. From there, you can adjust the following:

• GPS Simulator: Turn on the simulator to turn off the GPS mode and simulate navigation, and to save battery power.

• Keyboard: Touch QWERTY for a layout similar to a computer keyboard, or touch ABCDE for an alphabetical layout.

• Units: Change units of measure to Kilometers or Miles.

• About: Display the nüvi software version number, the unit ID number, and information on several other software features.

• Restore: Restore the system settings.

Touch Tools > Settings > Navigation to adjust the following:

• Route Preference: Select a preference for calculating your route (Faster Time, Shorter Distance, Off Road, Less Fuel).

• Avoidances: Select the road types you want to avoid on your routes.

• Restore: Restore the original navigation settings.

Touch Tools > Settings > Display to adjust the following:

• Color Mode: Select Day for a light background, Night for a dark background, or Auto to automatically switch between the two.

• Screen Shot: Turn on Screen Shot mode. Touch the camera icon to take a screen shot.

• Brightness: Adjust the backlight brightness level.

• Restore: Restore the original display settings.

Touch Tools > Settings > Time to adjust the following:

• Select a time format: Select a 12-hour, 24-hour, or UTC time format.

• Current Time: Manually set the time on your nüvi. Select Automatic to have the nüvi set the time based on your location.

• Restore: Restore the original time settings.

Touch Tools > Settings > Language to adjust the following:

• Voice Language: Change the language for voice prompts.

• Text Language: Change all on-screen text to the selected language. This does not change user-entered or map data.

• Keyboard: Select the keyboard for your language.

• Restore: Restore the original language settings.

Touch Tools > Settings > Map to adjust the following:

• Map Detail: Adjust the amount of detail shown on the map.

• Map View: Select a map perspective (Track Up 2D, North Up 2D, or 3D).

• Vehicle: Change the icon used to display your position on the map.

• Trip Log: Show or hide the log of your travels.

• Map Info: View the maps loaded on your nüvi and enable or disable them.

• Restore: Restore the original map settings.

1. Touch Tools > Settings.

2. Touch Restore.

3. Touch Yes.

Cleaning the Unit: Clean the outer casing (not the touchscreen) using a cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution, and then wipe it dry. Avoid chemical cleaners and solvents.

Cleaning the Touchscreen: Clean the touchscreen with a soft, clean, lint-free cloth. Use water, isopropyl alcohol, or eyeglass cleaner, if needed. Apply the liquid to the cloth, and then gently wipe the touchscreen.

Protecting Your nüvi:

• Do not store the nüvi where prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures can occur.

• Do not expose the nüvi to water.

• Never use a hard or sharp object to operate the touchscreen because damage might result.

Garmin Lock is a theft-deterrent system that locks your GARMIN NUVI 1250. Each time you turn on the nüvi, you must enter a PIN or drive to a pre-set security location.

1. Touch Tools > Settings > Security.

2. Touch the button below Garmin Lock.

3. Enter a 4-digit PIN and drive to a security location.

Your security location should be a location you return to often, such as your home. If the nüvi has satellite signals and you are at the security location, you do not need to enter the PIN.

1. Turn off the GARMIN NUVI 1250.

2. Hold the upper-left corner of the screen while turning on the nüvi.

3. Release the Power button when the Garmin screen appears.

4. Continue to hold the upper-left corner of the touch screen for 30 seconds until a white screen with “Press dot” appears.

IMPORTANT: This deletes all user-entered information.

1. Hold your finger on the lower-right corner of the nüvi screen while turning on the GARMIN NUVI 1250.

2. Keep your finger pressed until the pop-up window appears.

3. Touch Yes to clear all user data.

All original settings are restored. Any items that you have saved are erased.

Charge your GARMIN NUVI 1250 for at least 4 hours before using on battery power. You can charge it by:

• Connecting the vehicle power cable.

• Connecting the USB cable (included in some packages).

• Connecting an AC adapter (optional accessory).

To increase the accuracy of the battery gauge, fully discharge the battery and then fully charge it. Do not unplug the nüvi until it is totally charged.

If your unit will not charge in your vehicle, you might need to replace the fuse located at the tip of the vehicle adapter.

1. Unscrew the black, round end piece, and remove it. You may need to use a coin to remove the end piece.

2. Remove the fuse (glass and silver cylinder), and replace it with the appropriate fuse type, which can be found on the side of the vehicle adapter.

3. Ensure that the silver tip is placed in the black end piece. Screw on the black end piece.

Take your GARMIN NUVI 1250 out of parking garages and away from tall buildings and trees. Remain stationary for several minutes.

Clean the suction cup and windshield with rubbing alcohol. Dry with a clean, dry cloth. Mount the suction cup as described in the setup instructions.

Check the fuse in the vehicle power cable. Ensure the vehicle is turned on and is supplying power to the power outlet. Your nüvi can only charge between 32°F and 113°F (between 0°C and 45°C). If the nüvi is placed in direct sunlight or in a hot environment, it cannot charge.

To maximize the time between charges, turn down the backlight. Touch Tools > Settings > Display > Brightness.

Allow the unit to fully discharge, and then fully charge it without interrupting the charge cycle to improve the accuracy of the battery gauge.

Calibrate the touchscreen by following the calibration procedure in your device’s settings or manual.

When your GARMIN NUVI 1250 is in USB mass storage mode, a picture of a nüvi connected to a computer is shown on its screen. Also, you should see two new removable disk drives listed in My Computer on your PC.

1. Unplug the USB cable from your computer.

2. Turn off the GARMIN NUVI 1250.

3. Plug the USB cable into a USB port on your computer and into your nüvi. The nüvi automatically turns on and goes into USB mass storage mode. Ensure your nüvi is connected to a USB port and not a USB hub.

If you have several network drives mapped on your computer, Windows can have trouble assigning drive letters to your nüvi drives. See your operating system Help file to learn how to map or assign drive letters.

First, save the hotel in your Favorites. You can then search near the hotel for restaurants.

1. Touch Where To? > Near.

2. Select A Favorite Destination.

3. Select the hotel as the destination.

4. Touch Points of Interest > Food and Drink.

5. Select a category. Your GARMIN NUVI 1250 searches for locations near the hotel.

6. Select a restaurant.
