The main menu provides access to all the primary functions of your GARMIN NUVI 1300. Here is a breakdown of the icons:

1. GPS satellite strength: Shows the current strength of the GPS signal.

2. Bluetooth technology status: Indicates if Bluetooth is active and connected.

3. Usage mode: Touch to select a usage mode (e.g., Automobile, Pedestrian).

4. Current time: Touch to change time settings.

5. Battery status: Shows the remaining battery life.

6. Where To?: Touch to find a destination.

7. View Map: Touch to view the map.

8. Phone: On models with Bluetooth, touch to make a call when connected to a compatible mobile phone.

9. Volume: Touch to adjust the volume.

10. Tools: Touch to use tools such as settings and Help.

Follow these steps to mount your GARMIN NUVI 1300:

1. Remove the clear plastic from the suction cup. Place the suction cup on the windshield.

2. Flip the lever back toward the windshield to secure the suction cup.

3. Snap the cradle onto the suction cup arm.

4. Plug the vehicle power cable into the back of your GARMIN NUVI 1300.

5. Plug the other end of the vehicle power cable into a power outlet in your vehicle. The unit should turn on automatically if it is plugged in and the vehicle is running. Follow the on-screen instructions.

6. Fit the bottom of your GARMIN NUVI 1300 into the cradle.

7. Tilt your GARMIN NUVI 1300 back until it snaps into place.

WARNING: This product contains a lithium-ion battery. To prevent damage, remove the unit from the vehicle when exiting or store it out of direct sunlight.

1. Go outdoors to an open area, away from tall buildings and trees.

2. Turn on your GARMIN NUVI 1300.

Acquiring satellite signals can take a few minutes. The bars on the screen indicate satellite strength. When at least one of the bars is green, your GARMIN NUVI 1300 has acquired satellite signals.

Your GARMIN NUVI 1300 offers several usage modes for different navigation methods, such as Automobile, Pedestrian, and Bicycle. Routing is calculated differently based on your usage mode.

To change your usage mode:

1. From the Main menu, touch the usage mode icon on the upper-left corner.

2. Select a mode, and touch OK.

3. Touch Yes, and follow the on-screen instructions to configure your settings.

If you are not following roadways as you navigate, use Off Road mode. Touch Tools > Settings > Navigation > Route Preference > Off Road > OK.

Press and quickly release the Power button to view additional options:

• Touch the brightness icons to adjust the screen brightness.

• Touch Lock Screen to prevent accidental screen touches.

• Touch Power Off to turn off your GARMIN NUVI 1300. You can also turn off the device by holding the power button for approximately three seconds.

If your GARMIN NUVI 1300 stops functioning, reset it by pressing and holding the Power button.

From the Main menu, touch Volume. Touch the plus and minus icons to adjust the volume. Touch the box next to Mute to mute all audio.

The Where To? menu provides several different categories for you to use when searching for addresses, cities, and other locations.

1. Touch Where To?.

2. Select a category (e.g., Points of Interest).

3. Select a subcategory (e.g., Attractions).

4. Select a destination from the list.

5. Touch Go! to start navigation.

1. While navigating a route, touch the menu icon and then Where To?.

2. Search for the extra stop.

3. Touch Go!.

4. Touch Add as Via Point to add this stop before your final destination.

1. While navigating a route, touch the menu icon and then Where To?.

2. Search for the new stop.

3. Touch Go!.

4. Touch Set as New Destination to make this your final destination.

1. While navigating a route, touch the detour icon on the map screen.

2. Touch one of the detour options.

If the route you are currently taking is the only reasonable option, the GARMIN NUVI 1300 might not calculate a detour.

1. With a route active, touch Menu.

2. Touch Stop.

1. Touch Where To? > Address.

2. Change the state, the country, or the province, if necessary.

3. Touch Search All. If you know the city, touch Spell City, enter the city/postal code, and touch Done. Select the city/postal code in the list. (Not all map data provides postal code searching.)

4. Enter the number of the address, and touch Done.

5. Enter the street name, and touch Done.

6. Select the correct street in the list, if necessary.

7. Touch the address, if necessary.

To set your home location:

Set your home location for the place you return to most often.

1. Touch Where To? > Go Home.

2. Select an option:

• Enter your address.

• Use your current location.

• Choose from a list of recently found locations.

To change your home location:

1. Touch Tools > My Data > Set Home Location.

2. Select an option from the list.

To navigate home after you have set your home location, touch Where To? > Go Home.

1. Touch Where To? > Favorites > All Favorites > Home.

2. Touch Edit, enter your changes, and touch Done.

If you delete your home location, you can reset it by following the steps to set a home location.

After you have selected a location to navigate to, the Go! page opens with the following options:

1. Information Box: Touch to view more information for the location.

2. Zoom Controls (+/-): Touch to zoom in and out.

3. Call: Touch to call this location when connected to a phone.

4. Save: Touch to save this location to your Favorites.

5. Go!: Touch to create a turn-by-turn route to this location.

6. Back Arrow: Touch to return to the previous page. Touch and hold to return to the Main menu.

1. On the Go! page, touch the white box with the location details.

2. Touch Feedback for the following options:

• Edit Rating: Touch a circle to give the point of interest (POI) a rating from 1 to 5 stars.

• Report Error: The item will be removed from future searches. Reports will be sent to Garmin when your GARMIN NUVI 1300 is connected to a computer.

• Edit Phone Number: Use the keyboard to change the phone number.

1. Touch Where To? > Points of Interest > Spell Name.

2. Using the on-screen keyboard, enter letters of the name of your destination.

3. Touch Done.

When an on-screen keyboard appears, touch a letter or number to enter it.

• Touch the space bar to add a space.

• Touch the backspace icon to delete a character. Touch and hold it to erase the entire entry.

• Touch Mode to select the keyboard language mode.

• Touch &?% to enter special characters, such as punctuation marks.

1. Touch Where To? > Near.

2. Select an option:

• Where I Am Now: Search near your current location.

• A Different City: Search near the city you enter.

• A Recent Destination: Search near a recent destination.

• A Favorite Destination: Select a destination from Favorites.

• My Current Route: Search along your active route.

• My Destination: Search near your current destination.

Your GARMIN NUVI 1300 stores the last 50 of your recent finds in the Recently Found list.

• To view recent finds: Touch Where To? > Recently Found.

• To delete all recent finds: From the Recently Found list, touch Clear > Yes. This does not delete the actual place from your GARMIN NUVI 1300.

Saving Places:

• To save your current location: From the Map page, touch the vehicle icon, then touch Save Location.

• To save a place you find: From the Go! page, touch Save, then touch OK. The place is saved in Favorites.

Editing Saved Places:

1. Touch Where To? > Favorites.

2. Select the category and the location you want to edit.

3. Touch Edit.

4. Touch an item to edit:

• Change Name: Enter a new name, and touch Done.

• Attach Photo: Select a picture to assign to the location.

• Change Map Symbol: Touch a new symbol to mark this location on the map.

• Change Phone Number: Enter a phone number, and touch Done.

• Change Categories: Select another category for the location.

• Delete: Touch Yes to remove this item from the Favorites list.

On some models, you can use your GARMIN NUVI 1300 to create and save routes before your trip. You can save up to 10 routes.

1. With a route active, touch Where to? (or Tools) > Routes > New.

2. Touch Add New Start Point.

3. Find a location as your starting point, and touch Select.

4. Touch Add New End Point.

5. Find a location as your ending point, and touch Select.

6. Touch the plus icon to add another location to your route. Touch the minus icon to remove a location.

7. Touch Next to calculate your route and view it on the map.

8. Touch Save to save the route and exit.

Use the Browse Map page to view different parts of the map. Touch Where To? > Browse Map.

Tips for Browsing the Map:

• Touch the map and drag to view different parts of the map.

• Touch the plus and minus icons to zoom in and out.

• Touch any object on the map. An arrow appears, pointing at the object, and a box displays information on the location. When the box displays “Press for more,” several POIs exist at that location; press to see the list.

• Touch Save to save the selected location.

• Touch Go! to navigate to the location.

If you know the geographic coordinates of your destination, you can navigate using latitude and longitude.

1. Touch Where To? > Coordinates.

2. Touch the coordinate you want to adjust.

3. Touch Format to select the correct coordinate format for the type of map you are using.

4. Enter the coordinates, and touch Next.

Your route is marked with a magenta line. A checkered flag marks your destination.

1. Turn indicator: Touch to view the next turn.

2. Turn list: Touch to view the turn list.

3. Zoom controls: Touch to zoom in and out.

4. Back button: Touch to return to the Main menu.

5. Data field: Touch to display a different data field (e.g., arrival time, distance).

6. Vehicle icon: Touch to view the Where Am I? page.

7. Trip computer: Touch to view the trip computer.

A speed limit icon may also appear as you travel on major roadways, displaying the current speed limit.

The trip computer displays your current speed and provides statistics about your trip. To view it, touch the Speed field on the map.

To reset the information, from the map, touch the Speed field. Then:

• Touch Reset > Reset Trip Data to reset the information on the trip computer.

• Touch Reset > Reset Max to reset the maximum speed.

• Touch Reset > Reset Fuel Price to reset the fuel price.

To pair and connect, your phone and the GARMIN NUVI 1300 must be turned on and be within 33 ft. (10 m) of each other.

Pairing Using the nüvi Settings:

1. From the Main menu, touch Tools > Settings > Bluetooth > Add.

2. Enable the Bluetooth component on your phone, and enable Find Me/Discoverable/Visible mode.

3. Touch OK on the GARMIN NUVI 1300.

4. Select your phone, and touch OK.

5. Enter the nüvi Bluetooth PIN (1234) in your phone.

Receiving a Call:

When you get a call, the Incoming Call window opens. Touch Answer to answer the call. Touch Ignore to ignore the call.

During a Call:

During a call, the In Call icon appears. Touch it to see options:

• End Call: Hang up.

• Call Options > Touch Tones: Displays a keypad to use automated systems.

• Call Options > Transfer Audio To Phone: Transfers the call audio to your phone for privacy.

• Call Options > Mute Microphone: Mutes your microphone.

Using Call Waiting:

If you receive a second call, the Incoming Call window appears. Touch Answer to place the first call on hold. To switch between calls, touch the In Call icon > Switch To.

From the Main menu, touch Phone to access the Phone menu. Note: Not all phones support all features.

• Phone Book: Touch Phone > Phone Book. Select a contact and touch Call.

• Call History: Touch Phone > Call History. Select a category, then an entry, and touch Dial.

• Dialing a Number: Touch Phone > Dial. Enter the number and touch Dial.

• Calling a Point of Interest: Touch Phone > Points of Interest. Search for a POI and touch Call or the phone number.

• Calling Home: Touch Phone > Call Home. The GARMIN NUVI 1300 dials your home phone number.

• Voice Dial: Touch Phone > Voice Dial and speak the contact’s name.

Connecting to a Computer:

1. Insert a memory card (optional).

2. Connect the mini-USB connector to the back of the GARMIN NUVI 1300.

3. Connect the larger end of the cable to an available USB port on your computer. Your GARMIN NUVI 1300 and memory card appear as removable drives.

Transferring Files:

1. Browse your computer for the file you want to copy.

2. Highlight the file and click Edit > Copy.

3. Open the “Garmin” or memory card drive/volume.

4. Click Edit > Paste.

5. When finished, safely eject the device and unplug it from your computer.

1. Connect the GARMIN NUVI 1300 to your computer and open the nüvi or memory card drive/volume.

2. Highlight the file you want to delete.

3. Press the Delete key on the computer keyboard.

CAUTION: If you do not know the purpose of a file, do not delete it. Your GARMIN NUVI 1300 memory contains important system files that should not be deleted.

The ecoRoute feature calculates your vehicle fuel economy, carbon footprint, and the fuel price of navigating to a destination. Touch Tools > ecoRoute.

• Fuel Report: Touch Tools > ecoRoute > Fuel Report to view average fuel economy, carbon footprint, and cost of fuel consumed.

• Calibrate Fuel Economy: Touch Tools > ecoRoute > Fuel Report > Calibrate. Enter your calculated miles per gallon or liters per 100 kilometers and touch OK.

• Adjust Fuel Price: Touch Tools > ecoRoute > Fuel Price. Enter the current fuel price and touch Done.

• Driving Challenge: Touch Tools > ecoRoute > Driving Challenge > Start to maximize your fuel economy by scoring your driving habits.

• Vehicle Profile: Touch Tools > ecoRoute > Vehicle Profile to enter your vehicle’s fuel type and fuel efficiency.

• Mileage Report: Touch Tools > ecoRoute > Mileage Report to view reports for the distance, time, average fuel economy, and fuel cost of your routes.

When you are receiving traffic information, a traffic icon appears on the Map page. The color indicates the severity of traffic conditions.

• Manually Avoiding Traffic: On the Map page, touch the traffic icon. Touch Traffic On Route. Touch the arrows to view different delays, and touch Avoid to avoid the delay.

• Viewing the Traffic Map: On the Map page, touch the traffic icon, then touch Show Traffic Map to view color-coded traffic flow and delays on nearby roads.

• Viewing Traffic Delays: On the Map page, touch the traffic icon, then touch Traffic Search to view a list of traffic delays.

Touch Tools > Settings > System.

• GPS Simulator: Turn on the simulator to turn off the GPS mode, simulate navigation, and save battery power.

• Keyboard: Touch QWERTY for a standard layout or ABCDE for an alphabetical layout.

• Units: Change units of measure to Kilometers or Miles.

• About: Display the software version, unit ID number, and other software information.

• Restore: Restore the system settings to factory defaults.

Touch Tools > Settings > Navigation.

• Route Preference: Select a preference for calculating your route (Faster Time, Shorter Distance, Off Road, Less Fuel).

• Avoidances: Select the road types you want to avoid on your routes.

• Restore: Restore the original navigation settings.

Touch Tools > Settings > Display.

• Color Mode: Select Day for a light background, Night for a dark background, or Auto to switch automatically.

• Screen Shot: Turn on Screen Shot mode. Touch the camera icon to take a screen shot.

• Brightness: Adjust the backlight brightness level.

• Restore: Restore the original display settings.

Touch Tools > Settings > Map.

• Map Detail: Adjust the amount of detail shown on the map.

• Map View: Select a map perspective (Track Up, North Up, 3D).

• Vehicle: Touch Change to change the icon used to display your position on the map.

• Trip Log: Show or hide the log of your travels.

• Map Info: View the maps loaded on your GARMIN NUVI 1300. Touch a map to enable or disable it.

• Restore: Restore the original map settings.

Touch Tools > Settings > Security.

• Garmin Lock: This is a theft-deterrent system. To enable it:

1. Touch the button below Garmin Lock.

2. Enter a 4-digit PIN.

3. Drive to a security location (a place you return to often, like home). Once set, you must enter the PIN or be at the security location to unlock the device.

• Safe Mode: Turn safe mode on or off. When your vehicle is moving, Safe mode disables all functions that require significant operator attention.

• General Care: Avoid dropping your unit or operating it in high-shock and high-vibration environments.

• Cleaning the Unit: Clean the outer casing (not the touchscreen) using a cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution, then wipe it dry. Avoid chemical cleaners and solvents.

• Cleaning the Touchscreen: Clean the touchscreen with a soft, clean, lint-free cloth. Use water, isopropyl alcohol, or eyeglass cleaner if needed. Apply the liquid to the cloth, then gently wipe the touchscreen.

• Protection: Do not store the GARMIN NUVI 1300 where prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures can occur. Do not expose the unit to water.

1. Turn off the GARMIN NUVI 1300.

2. Hold the upper-left corner of the screen while turning on the GARMIN NUVI 1300.

3. Release the Power button when the Garmin screen appears.

4. Continue to hold the upper-left corner of the touch screen for 30 seconds until a white screen with “Press dot” appears. Follow the on-screen instructions.

IMPORTANT: This deletes all user-entered information.

1. Hold your finger on the lower-right corner of the GARMIN NUVI 1300 screen while turning on the device.

2. Keep your finger pressed until the pop-up window appears.

3. Touch Yes to clear all user data. All original settings are restored, and any items you have saved are erased.

Charge your GARMIN NUVI 1300 for at least 4 hours before using on battery power.

• Connect the vehicle power cable.

• Connect the USB cable (included in some packages).

• Connect an AC adapter (optional accessory).

To maximize the lifetime of the battery, do not leave your GARMIN NUVI 1300 in direct sunlight. To increase the accuracy of the battery gauge, fully discharge the battery and then fully charge it. Do not unplug the GARMIN NUVI 1300 until it is totally charged.

If your unit will not charge in your vehicle, you might need to replace the fuse.

1. Unscrew the black, round end piece and remove it. You may need a coin to help.

2. Remove the fuse (glass and silver cylinder), and replace it with the appropriate fuse type, which can be found on the side of the vehicle adapter.

3. Ensure the silver tip is placed in the black end piece. Screw on the black end piece.

• To remove the GARMIN NUVI 1300 from the cradle: Press the tab of the cradle while tilting the GARMIN NUVI 1300 forward.

• To remove the cradle from the mount: Turn the cradle to the right or left. Apply pressure in that direction until the cradle snaps off the mount.

• To remove the suction cup mount from the windshield: Flip the lever toward you. Pull the tab on the suction cup toward you.

Take your GARMIN NUVI 1300 out of parking garages and away from tall buildings and trees. Remain stationary for several minutes to allow the device to acquire signals.

Clean the suction cup and windshield with rubbing alcohol. Dry with a clean, dry cloth. Mount the suction cup as described in the setup instructions.

Check the fuse in the vehicle power cable. Ensure the vehicle is turned on and is supplying power to the power outlet. Your GARMIN NUVI 1300 can only charge between 32°F and 113°F (0°C and 45°C). If the device is placed in direct sunlight or in a hot environment, it cannot charge.

To maximize the time between charges, turn down the backlight. Touch Tools > Settings > Display > Brightness.

Allow the unit to fully discharge, and then fully charge it without interrupting the charge cycle to recalibrate the battery gauge.

Calibrate the touchscreen. Turn off the device, then press and hold the upper-left corner of the screen while turning it on. Continue to hold the corner until the “Press dot” screen appears and follow the instructions.

When your GARMIN NUVI 1300 is in USB mass storage mode, a picture of a nüvi connected to a computer is shown on the device’s screen. Also, you should see two new removable disk drives listed in My Computer on your PC.

1. Unplug the USB cable from your computer.

2. Turn off the GARMIN NUVI 1300.

3. Plug the USB cable into a USB port on your computer and into your GARMIN NUVI 1300. The device automatically turns on and goes into USB mass storage mode. Ensure your GARMIN NUVI 1300 is connected to a USB port and not a USB hub.

If you have several network drives mapped on your computer, Windows can have trouble assigning drive letters to your GARMIN NUVI 1300 drives. See your operating system Help file to learn how to map or assign drive letters.

First, save the hotel in your Favorites. You can then search near the hotel for restaurants.

1. Touch Where To? > Near.

2. Select A Favorite Destination.

3. Select the hotel as your destination.

4. Touch Points of Interest > Food and Drink.

5. Select a category. Your GARMIN NUVI 1300 searches for locations near the hotel.

6. Select a restaurant.

Ensure your GARMIN NUVI 1300 model supports Bluetooth. Touch Tools > Settings > Bluetooth and verify that the Bluetooth field is set to Enabled. Ensure your phone is turned on and is less than 33 feet (about 10 meters) away from your GARMIN NUVI 1300.
