How does the pulse output feature of the FLOMEC TM50-N-LP work?
The FLOMEC TM50-N-LP provides a raw pulse output through its cable. For each rotation of the turbine rotor, a specific number of pulses are transmitted. The pulse amounts can vary depending on meter size, flowrate, and fluid type. The pulse cable’s White wire is the signal and the Black wire is common (GND).
If your interface device does not have an internal pull-up resistor, you must use a minimum 820 ohms resistor connected between the signal wire and a 5-30 VDC power source.
The typical pulses per gallon for various meter sizes are as follows:
| Meter Size | Typ. Pulses per Gallon |
|---|---|
| TM050 | 2,400 |
| TM075 | 1,100 |
| TM100 | 570 |
| TM150 | 213 |
| TM200 | 100 |
A Calibration Report with specific calibration information for your meter is also included for your reference.
How can I verify the accuracy of my FLOMEC TM50-N-LP meter?
Before using the meter, check its accuracy and verify the calibration by following these steps:
1. Ensure there is no air in the system by starting the flow until it runs steadily. Then, stop or divert the flow using a valve or nozzle.
2. Meter an exact known volume into an accurate container. For the best results, meter with one continuous full stream.
3. Check the volume against the display or your recording equipment. If the amount metered is accurate, no further calibration is needed. If it is not accurate, refer to the Calibration Section for further instructions.
How do I operate the computer display on the FLOMEC TM50-N-LP?
The computer on your FLOMEC TM50-N-LP is always on and maintains two totals:
• **Cumulative Total (TOTAL 1):** Provides continuous measurement and cannot be manually reset.
• **Batch Total (TOTAL 2 BATCH):** Can be reset to measure flow during a single use.
When the Cumulative Total reaches 999,999, an X10 icon will be highlighted, indicating you need to add one zero to the 6 digits shown. On the next rollover, an X100 icon will appear, indicating two zeros must be added.
A small propeller icon is highlighted when fluid is flowing through the meter.
To operate the display:
• **Switch Views:** Briefly press the DISPLAY button to switch between TOTAL 1, TOTAL 2 BATCH, and FLOWRATE.
• **Reset Batch Total:** Press DISPLAY briefly to show the TOTAL 2 BATCH screen, then hold the DISPLAY button for 3 seconds to reset the Batch Total to zero.
• **View Flowrate:** Press and release the DISPLAY button until the FLOWRATE icon appears. The display will indicate the rate of flow. The factory-set time base will be highlighted (M = minutes, H = hours, D = days).
How do I use the Factory and Field Calibration modes on the FLOMEC TM50-N-LP?
Your FLOMEC TM50-N-LP has both factory and field calibration settings.
Factory Calibration (FAC):
All units are configured with a “factory” calibration, indicated by a “FAC” icon on the top line of the display. This calibration is permanently programmed and not user-adjustable. To toggle between available factory-set units of measure (e.g., gallons “GL”, litres “LT”, imperial gallons “IGL”, quarts “QT”):
1. Hold the CALIBRATE button.
2. While holding CALIBRATE, briefly press the DISPLAY button to cycle through the units.
Switching between units converts the totalized volume automatically (e.g., 10.00 gallons will read as 37.85 litres).
Field Calibration:
The “field” calibration can be set by the user and modified at any time. When a field calibration is active, the FAC icon will no longer be visible on the display. Totals and flowrate will be derived from this user-set calibration.
What are the minimum flowrate requirements for calibrating the FLOMEC TM50-N-LP?
For the most accurate calibration results, you must meet the meter’s minimum flowrate requirements. Dispense at a flowrate that best simulates your actual operating conditions, avoiding “dribbling” or repeatedly starting and stopping the flow.
The minimum flowrates for TM Series Meters are:
| TM Series Meters | Minimum Flowrate |
|---|---|
| 1/2 inch meter | 1 GPM (3.8 LPM) |
| 3/4 inch meter | 2 GPM (7.5 LPM) |
| 1 inch meter | 5 GPM (18.8 LPM) |
| 1 1/2 inch meter | 10 GPM (37.5 LPM) |
| 2 inch meter | 20 GPM (75 LPM) |
How do I perform a field calibration on the FLOMEC TM50-N-LP?
Use the following correction factor method to perform a field calibration. For best results, the meter should be installed and purged of air first.
1. To enter calibration mode, press and hold the CALIBRATE and DISPLAY buttons for about 3 seconds until you see “FLdCAL”. Release both buttons, and you will see “CF – 00.0”.
2. You can now enter a correction factor from -99.9% to +99.9%. The first position will be for the sign (+/-). A “+” appears as an “underscore” and a “-” appears as a “hyphen”. Use the DISPLAY button to select a position (sign or number) and the CALIBRATE button to change its value (toggle +/- or scroll 0-9).
3. Use the DISPLAY and CALIBRATE buttons to enter the percentage of change you want the display to correct for.
4. When satisfied with the value, press both CALIBRATE and DISPLAY buttons simultaneously. “CALEnd” will be displayed, and the unit will return to normal operation. The FAC (factory calibration) icon will no longer be visible, and the correction will be applied to all enabled units.
5. To return to factory calibration (FAC), press and hold both CALIBRATE and DISPLAY buttons for about 3 seconds until “FACCAL” is displayed. Release the buttons. The unit will return to normal operation, and the FAC icon will be visible again.
What is the proper maintenance for the turbine rotor on the FLOMEC TM50-N-LP?
The FLOMEC TM50-N-LP is virtually maintenance-free. However, it is important that the rotor moves freely. Keep the meter clean and free of contaminants.
If the rotor does not turn freely, apply a penetrating lubricant on the rotor, shaft, and bearings. Remove any debris or deposits from the rotor using a soft brush or small probe. Be careful not to damage the turbine rotor or supports.
Please note these cautions:
• **CAUTION:** Blowing compressed air through the turbine assembly could damage the rotor.
