What should I know before calibrating the EUTECH INSTRUMENTS PC 510?

When you calibrate your EUTECH INSTRUMENTS PC 510, old calibration points are replaced differently for pH and conductivity/TDS.

  • pH: Calibration is replaced on a “point by point” basis. If you previously calibrated at pH 4.01, 7.00, and 10.01, and you recalibrate only at pH 7.00, the meter retains the old data for pH 4.01 and 10.01.

  • Conductivity/TDS: Calibration is replaced on a “range by range” basis. If you previously calibrated at 1413 µS (in the 0 to 1999 µS range) and you recalibrate at 1500 µS (also in that range), the meter will replace the old data for that specific range. It will retain calibration data in other ranges.

Before starting, ensure you are in the correct measurement mode. Do not re-use calibration solutions as contaminants can affect accuracy.

To view current calibration points:

  • pH: Go to Program P1.0 in the SETUP section.

  • Conductivity & TDS: Go to Program P5.0 in the SETUP section.

To completely recalibrate or when using a replacement probe, it is best to reset the meter to factory defaults:

  • pH: Go to Program P4.0 in the SETUP section.

  • Conductivity & TDS: Go to Program P9.0 in the SETUP section.

NOTE: Resetting the meter will set it to factory defaults. Conductivity and pH must be reset separately.

How should I care for and maintain the probes for my EUTECH INSTRUMENTS PC 510?

Proper probe care is crucial for accurate readings from your EUTECH INSTRUMENTS PC 510.

pH Electrode Care

  • Storage: Always keep the pH bulb hydrated. Use the protective storage bottle filled with electrode storage solution. A pH 4 buffer with 1/100 part saturated KCl can be used as an alternative for short-term storage. NEVER use distilled water for storage.

  • After Measuring: Rinse the electrode and reference junction in de-ionized water. Store as recommended.

  • Cleaning:

Salt deposits: Immerse in tap water for 10-15 minutes, then rinse with distilled water.

Oil/Grease film: Gently wash the bulb with detergent and water. Rinse with distilled water.

Clogged reference junction: Heat a diluted KCl solution to 60-80 °C. Place the sensing part of the electrode in the solution for about 10 minutes. Allow to cool in unheated KCl solution.

Protein deposits: Place the electrode in a 1% pepsin solution in 0.1 M HCl for 5-10 minutes. Rinse with distilled water.

  • Reactivating: If the electrode response is sluggish, immerse it in a pH 4 buffer for 10-30 minutes to rehydrate the bulb. Never touch or rub the glass bulb.

Conductivity Electrode Care

  • Keep the probe clean. Rinse twice and swirl gently while taking readings.

  • For best accuracy, soak a dry probe for 5-10 minutes before calibration.

  • Rinse with de-ionized or tap water before storing. Never scratch the bands with a hard substance.

  • Do not immerse the probe in oily solutions. Clean by stirring in a mild detergent bath or isopropyl alcohol, wipe with a soft tissue, and rinse thoroughly.

  • Re-calibrate the meter after cleaning the probe.

  • To remove the probe guard for cleaning: Grip the yellow probe guard and twist it clockwise. The locking notch will release, allowing you to slide the guard off the end of the probe.
