When selecting a location for your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61R, please note the following points:

1. Place the projector on a sturdy, level surface or install it using a compatible mount.

2. Leave plenty of space around and under the projector for ventilation. Do not place it on top of or next to anything that could block the vents.

3. Place the projector so it squarely faces the screen, not at an angle. If you cannot, you will need to correct the keystone distortion using the projector controls.

4. Do not cover the projector’s air intake or air exhaust vents. This could cause the internal temperature to rise and cause a fire.

5. Do not install the projector on an unstable surface or in a location beyond its weight specifications, as it could fall or topple.

6. When installing in a high position, use safety wires to prevent falling.

You can mount your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61R on a commercially available tripod or projector stand by following these steps:

1. Turn the projector upside down.

2. Use 1/4-20 UNC size (6.35 mm outer diameter) fixing screws (minimum depth 8.4 mm) to fix the projector’s mounting hole to the mounting hardware at one point.

3. When installing the projector in a high place, attach the optional safety wire set (ELPWR01) to the safety wire attachment point for safety purposes.

4. Mount the projector on the tripod or projector stand. For details, see the documentation supplied with the tripod or projector stand.

Warning: When mounting on a tripod, use one that is strong enough to support the projector’s weight and securely tighten the screw. Do not carry the projector while mounted on a tripod, and always place it on a flat, stable surface.

To connect an HDMI video source, such as a streaming device or Blu-ray player, to your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61R, follow these steps:

1. Connect one end of the HDMI cable to your video source’s HDMI output port.

2. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the projector’s HDMI port.

Attention: Do not turn on the video source before connecting it to the projector, as this could cause damage.

If your computer has an HDMI port, you can connect it to your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61R for both video and audio.

1. Connect the HDMI cable to your computer’s HDMI output port.

2. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the projector’s HDMI port.

You can connect devices like a microphone, USB flash drive, digital camera, or USB hard drive to project images and other content.

1. If your USB device came with a power adapter, plug the device into an electrical outlet.

2. Connect the USB device to the projector’s USB-A port.

Note the following requirements for USB hard drives:

• Must be USB Mass Storage Class-compliant.
• Formatted in FAT16/32.
• Self-powered by their own AC power supplies (bus-powered hard drives are not recommended).
• Avoid using hard drives with multiple partitions.

Connecting Headphones:

Connect your stereo headphone’s mini-jack cable to the projector’s Audio Out port. You can then control the volume using the projector’s remote control. The port supports 3-pin headphones.

Connecting an eARC/ARC Compatible AV System (like a sound bar):

1. Connect an HDMI cable (with Ethernet) to your AV system’s HDMI output port (eARC or ARC compatible).

2. Connect the other end of the cable to the projector’s HDMI port.

3. Make any necessary settings on the connected AV system. See your device’s documentation for more information.

To output audio via an ARC connection, you must set Global CEC control to On in the projector’s menu (Channels & Inputs > Inputs > Global CEC control).

The remote control for your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61R uses two AAA batteries. Follow these steps to install or replace them:

1. Remove the battery cover by sliding it off.

2. Remove the old batteries, if necessary. Please dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.

3. Insert the two new AAA batteries, making sure the + and – ends face the correct direction as shown inside the battery holder.

4. Replace the battery cover and press it down until it clicks into place.

When you turn on the projector for the first time, you need to set up its operating system (OS) using the initial setup wizard.

1. Turn on the projector.

2. When the pairing screen is displayed, hold down the Home button and Esc button on the remote control at the same time to pair the remote with the projector. The indicator on the remote will flash during pairing and turn off when complete.

3. When the language selection screen appears, select your language and follow the on-screen instructions to select your country or region.

4. Follow the on-screen instructions to make initial settings for the OS. It is recommended to log in with your Google Account for more detailed settings.

5. When the Wi-Fi setting screen is displayed, select your wireless network and follow the instructions to connect. An internet connection is required for online content.

6. Follow any other on-screen instructions to make necessary settings.

7. When you agree to the EPSON license terms, the initial setup wizard closes and the home screen is displayed.

Turning On the Projector:

1. Connect the AC adapter to the projector’s AC adapter port.

2. Connect the power cord to the AC adapter.

3. Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet. The projector will enter standby mode.

4. Press the power button on the projector or the remote control. The status indicator will turn white, and the projector will turn on. The Auto Shape Correction feature will automatically correct the focus and any distortion.

Turning Off the Projector (Suspended Mode):

1. Press the power button on the projector or remote control. The light source turns off, the status indicator turns off, and the projector enters suspended mode.

2. To transport or store the projector, ensure the status indicator is off, then unplug the power cord.

Turning Off the Projector (Deep Standby Mode):

To reduce power consumption when not in use, you can enter deep standby mode.

1. Hold down the power button on the remote control.

2. Select OK on the shutdown confirmation screen. The projector enters deep standby mode. It will take longer to start up from this mode.

Depending on how you have positioned your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61R, you may need to change the projection mode to orient the image correctly. The available modes are:

• Front: For projecting from in front of the screen.
• Front/Ceiling: Flips the image top-to-bottom for projecting from a ceiling mount.
• Rear: Flips the image horizontally for projecting from behind a translucent screen.
• Rear/Ceiling: Flips the image both top-to-bottom and horizontally.

To change the mode:

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the Settings button on the remote to open the dashboard.

3. Select the Settings icon on the dashboard.

4. Select the menus in the following order: Projector > Advanced Settings > Projection.

5. Select a projection mode and press [Enter].

6. Press the Esc button to exit the menus.

If you are projecting from a flat surface and the image is too high or low, you can adjust the image height using the projector’s front adjustable foot.

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the foot release lever to extend and retract the front adjustable foot. You can adjust the position up to 8 degrees.

3. Release the lever to lock the foot in place.

If the image becomes unevenly rectangular after adjusting, you will need to correct the image shape using the keystone settings.

Your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61R has several features to correct the image shape if it is not a perfect rectangle.

Auto Shape Correction:

When the projector is moved or tilted, Auto Shape Correction automatically corrects focus and keystone distortion. This operates when the image size is between 30 to 100 inches and the projection angle is within 20 degrees (up, down, left, or right).

Adjusting Size and Position (Zoom & Shift):

1. Press the Settings button on the remote to open the dashboard.

2. Select the Settings icon and go to Projector > Keystone > Zoom & Shift.

3. Use the left and right arrow buttons to adjust the image size (Zoom).

4. Press [Enter] to switch to Shift mode. Use the arrow buttons to adjust the image position.

Correcting with Quick Corner:

For manual fine-tuning, you can use Quick Corner.

1. Press the Settings button on the remote to open the dashboard.

2. Select the Settings icon and go to Projector > Keystone > Quick Corner.

3. Use the [Enter] button to select a corner of the image you want to adjust, then use the arrow buttons to move it.

You can correct the image focus using the projector’s remote control.

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the Focus button on the remote control. The focus adjustment screen will be displayed.

3. Press the left and right arrow buttons on the remote control to adjust the focus setting.

4. Press the Esc button to exit the menu.

If you have multiple devices connected to your projector, you can switch between them.

1. Make sure the connected image source you want to use is turned on.

2. For video sources like a DVD player, insert the media and press play.

3. Press the Source Search button on the remote control.

4. Press the up or down arrow button to select the image source you want.

If no image signal is detected, check the cable connections between the projector and the image source.

You can change the aspect ratio (width-to-height ratio) of the displayed image. This setting is available only when the current input source is HDMI.

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the Settings button on the remote control to open the dashboard.

3. Select the Settings icon on the dashboard.

4. Go to Display & Sound > Screen.

5. Select one of the available aspect ratios for your input signal.

The following aspect ratios are available:

You can change the projector’s color mode to optimize the image for your viewing environment.

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the Settings button on the remote control to open the dashboard.

3. Select the Settings icon on the dashboard.

4. Go to Display & Sound > Display > Picture Mode.

5. Select the color mode you want to use from the list.

The available color modes are:

You can use the projector’s speaker to output audio from a video/audio device connected by Bluetooth.

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the Settings button on the remote control to open the dashboard.

3. Select the Settings icon on the dashboard.

4. Go to Projector > Bluetooth Speaker Mode. The Bluetooth Speaker Mode screen is displayed.

5. Enable the Bluetooth function on the device you want to connect and select the projector name (this projector) from the available device list.

6. The projected image turns off 10 seconds after the Bluetooth connection is established. Press Esc to exit Bluetooth Speaker Mode.

With Google Cast, you can stream entertainment from your favorite apps on your phone, tablet, or laptop to your projector.

1. Connect your device or computer to the same wireless network as the projector.

2. Open the Google Cast-enabled app and press the Cast icon.

3. Select your projector from the list of devices. The app will connect and start casting to the projector.

4. To stop casting, press the Cast icon in the app and choose the disconnect option.

When an audio/video source that meets the HDMI CEC standard is connected, you can use the projector’s remote to control certain features of the linked device.

1. Press the Settings button on the remote control to open the dashboard.

2. Select the Settings icon on the dashboard.

3. Go to Channels & Inputs > Inputs > Global CEC control.

4. Set Global CEC control to On.

5. Adjust the following HDMI CEC settings as necessary:

– To automatically turn off the connected device when you turn off the projector, set Allow TV to turn off connected devices to On.

– To automatically turn on the projector when you turn on the connected device, set Allow connected devices to turn on TV to On.

You can then use the projector’s remote control for functions like playback, stop, or adjusting volume on the linked device.

You can get the latest version of the projector firmware by using the Epson Projector Update app.

1. Press the Home button on the remote control.

2. Select Apps and start Epson Projector Update by selecting it from the apps list.

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to update the firmware.

Attention: While updating the firmware, do not operate or turn off the projector.

If the latest projector firmware is available, a notification is automatically displayed on the screen. Follow the on-screen instructions to update.

You can reset all of the projector settings to their default values. Note that initializing the projector will delete all information such as installed apps, Google Account login information, and menu settings.

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the Settings button on the remote control to open the dashboard.

3. Select the Settings icon on the dashboard.

4. Go to System > About > Reset > Factory reset.

5. Follow the on-screen instructions to start initializing the projector.

Cleaning the Lens:

Clean the lens periodically or whenever you notice dust or smudges.

1. Turn off the projector and unplug the power cord before cleaning.

2. To remove dust or smudges, gently wipe the lens with clean and dry lens-cleaning paper.

3. If the lens is dusty, you can first blow off dust using a photography blower, and then wipe the lens.

Attention: Do not wipe the lens right after turning off the projector as it may be hot. Do not use harsh materials.

Cleaning the Projector Case:

1. Turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.

2. To remove dust or dirt, use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.

3. To remove stubborn dirt, use a soft cloth moistened with water and mild soap. Do not spray liquid directly on the projector.

Attention: Do not use wax, alcohol, benzene, paint thinner, or other chemicals to clean the case.

You should clean the projector’s air filter or air intake vents if they get dusty or the Status indicator turns orange. It is recommended to clean them about once a year, or more often in dusty environments.

1. Turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.

2. Gently remove the dust from the vents using a small vacuum designed for computers or a very soft brush (such as a paintbrush).

Attention: Do not use canned air, as the gases may leave a flammable residue or push dust into the projector’s optics. If dust is difficult to remove or the air filter is damaged, contact Epson for assistance.

If your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61R does not turn on when you press the power button, try the following steps:

1. Make sure the power cord is securely connected to the projector, to a working electrical outlet, and to the AC adapter.

2. If you are using the remote control, check the batteries of the remote control and replace them if necessary.

3. The power cord or the AC adapter may be defective. Disconnect the cord and contact Epson for help.

If your projector’s light source turns off unexpectedly, try the following solutions:

1. The projector may have turned off due to the Shut-Off Timer setting. Check this in the System > Power & Energy menu. Press the power button to turn the projector back on.

2. If the status indicator is lit orange, the projector has overheated and turned off. Let it cool down and check for blocked vents.

If no image is displayed, try these steps:

1. Check the projector’s status indicator to confirm it is in normal operating status (lit white). If it is off, press the power button to wake it from standby.

2. Check all cable connections to ensure they are secure.

3. Check the status of your video source: ensure it is turned on and playing content. If projecting from a laptop, make sure it is set to display on an external monitor.

4. Check that your Wi-Fi is on if viewing online content.

5. Turn off the projector and the connected video source, then turn them back on.

If only a partial image is displayed:

1. Adjust the image position using the Zoom & Shift setting in the Projector > Keystone menu.

2. Select an appropriate aspect ratio from the Screen menu (Display & Sound > Screen).

3. Make sure you select the correct projection mode in the Projector > Advanced Settings > Projection menu.

For a Fuzzy or Blurry Image:

1. Press the Focus button on the remote control and adjust the focus manually.

2. Position the projector close enough to the screen.

3. Position the projector so the keystone adjustment angle is not so wide that it distorts the image.

4. Clean the projector’s lens.

5. Adjust the Sharpness setting in the Display & Sound > Display menu.

For a Non-Rectangular Image:

1. Place the projector directly in front of the center of the screen, facing it squarely, if possible.

2. Make sure the Auto Shape Correction settings are enabled in the Projector > Keystone menu.

3. Run the Auto Shape Correction manually by selecting Start Corrections in the Auto Shape Correction menu.

4. Adjust the image shape manually using Quick Corner in the Projector > Keystone menu.

For Incorrect Brightness or Colors:

1. Try different color modes in the Display & Sound > Display > Picture Mode menu.

2. Adjust color settings like Brightness, Contrast, and Saturation in the Display & Sound > Display menu.

3. Make sure all video cables are securely connected.

4. Position the projector closer to the screen.

For an Upside-down Image:

If the projected image is upside-down, select the correct projection mode. Go to Projector > Advanced Settings > Projection and select the mode that matches your setup (e.g., Front/Ceiling).

If there is no sound or the volume is too low, try the following steps:

1. Adjust the projector’s volume using the volume up/down buttons on the remote control.

2. Check the cable connection between the projector and your video source.

3. Check your video source to make sure its volume is turned up and the audio output is set correctly.

4. If you want to output audio from the projector’s speakers, check that Global CEC control is set to Off in the Channels & Inputs > Inputs menu.

5. If you want to output audio to an external audio device that supports HDMI eARC/ARC, set Global CEC control to On and ensure the HDMI cable is compliant.

6. If audio is not outputting correctly to an eARC/ARC device, try changing the Digital Output setting to PCM in the Display & Sound > Audio Output menu.

If the projector does not respond to remote control commands, try the following:

1. Check that the remote control batteries are installed correctly and have power. If necessary, replace the batteries.

2. Check if the buttons on the remote control are stuck. Return them to their normal positions.

3. If a pairing screen is displayed, perform pairing again by holding the Home and Esc buttons for about three seconds.

4. Make sure you are operating the remote control within the reception angle and range of the projector.

5. Strong fluorescent lighting, direct sunlight, or infrared device signals may be interfering with the remote receivers. Dim the lights or move the projector away from the interference.

6. If these steps do not work, the remote control may be defective. Contact Epson for help.
