To ensure the best image quality from your EPSON LIFESTUDIO FLEX EF-71, follow these placement guidelines:

• Place the projector on a sturdy, level surface or install it using a compatible mount.

• Leave plenty of space around and under the projector for ventilation. Do not place it on top of or next to anything that could block the vents.

• Place the projector so it squarely faces the screen, not at an angle. If you cannot install the projector squarely facing the screen, you can correct keystone distortion using projector controls. However, for the best quality images, adjusting the installation position to achieve the correct image size and shape is recommended.

• The projector can be installed at various angles. For the EF-71 model, you can project images onto a ceiling.

When installing your EPSON LIFESTUDIO FLEX EF-71, observe the following safety warnings and precautions:

• Do not install the projector in a location subject to high levels of dust, humidity, smoke, or steam, as this could cause a fire or electric shock.

• Avoid environments with excessive smoke, airborne oil particles (kitchens), volatile solvents (laboratories), detergents, aroma oils, or near humidifiers, as these can cause the projector case to deteriorate and fall.

• Do not cover the projector’s air intake or air exhaust vents to prevent internal temperature rise and fire.

• Do not use or store the projector in dusty or dirty locations to avoid image quality decline or a clogged air filter.

• Do not install on an unstable surface or in a location beyond the projector’s weight specifications to prevent falls and injury.

• When installing in a high position, use safety wires to prevent falling in an emergency like an earthquake.

• Do not install in locations where salt damage or corrosive gas could occur, as this could cause corrosion and malfunction.

• When carrying the projector, be sure to hold the stand in both hands to prevent it from falling and causing damage or injury.

• Do not cover the projector’s lens to prevent internal temperature rise and malfunction.

• If you tilt the projector toward the ceiling while cables are connected, you may damage the cables or ports.

• Leave at least 4 inches (10 cm) of space on the sides and 8 inches (20 cm) at the front and back for ventilation.

• Install the supplied AC adapter more than 11.8 inches (30 cm) away from the projector to prevent improper operation due to heat.

When you install the EPSON LIFESTUDIO FLEX EF-71 in a high place, you must attach the optional safety wire set (ELPWR01) to prevent the projector from falling. Follow these steps:

1. Wind the safety wire around the pole of the projector stand and pass it through the loop.

2. Attach the other loop to a location that is strong enough to support the weight of the projector.

When installing in a high place such as a ceiling, ensure you hook the carabiner of the safety wire set to a point strong enough to hold the weight of both the projector and the mounting hardware.

Follow these steps to connect an HDMI video source or computer to your EPSON LIFESTUDIO FLEX EF-71:

1. Ensure the video source is turned off before connecting it to the projector to avoid damage.

2. Connect one end of the HDMI cable to your video source’s or computer’s HDMI output port.

3. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the projector’s HDMI port.

• Check the shape and orientation of connectors before connecting. Do not force a connector into a port.

• Connect all video devices first, then connect the power cord.

• Tilting the projector toward the ceiling with cables connected may damage the ports.

• For sending 18 Gbps images like 4K 60Hz 4:4:4, use a premium-high speed HDMI cable.

You can connect devices like a microphone, USB flash drive, digital camera, or USB hard drive to your EPSON LIFESTUDIO FLEX EF-71. Follow these steps:

1. If your USB device has its own power adapter, plug it into an electrical outlet.

2. Connect the USB device to the projector’s USB-A port as shown in the manual.

Please note:

• The USB-A port is not guaranteed to operate all devices that support USB.

• An app may be required to project content from your USB device.

• USB hard drives should be USB Mass Storage Class-compliant, formatted in FAT16/32, and self-powered by their own AC power supplies.

• Use the USB cable supplied with your device. If the cable is too long (more than three meters), the device may not operate correctly.

Connecting Headphones:

1. Connect your stereo headphone’s mini-jack cable to the projector’s Audio Out port. The Audio Out port supports 3-pin headphones.

2. You can control the volume using the projector’s remote control.

Caution: Do not start playback at a high volume. Always lower the volume before powering off.

Connecting an eARC/ARC Compatible AV System:

1. Connect an HDMI cable (with Ethernet) to your AV system’s HDMI output port (eARC or ARC compatible).

2. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the projector’s HDMI port.

3. Make any necessary settings on the connected AV system. Refer to your device’s documentation for more information.

4. To output audio via ARC, set Global CEC control to On in the projector’s menu (Channels & Inputs > Inputs > Global CEC control).

5. If audio does not output properly, try changing the Digital Output setting to PCM (Display & Sound > Audio Output > Digital Output).

The remote control for your EPSON LIFESTUDIO FLEX EF-71 uses two AAA batteries. Follow these steps to install them:

Turning On the Projector:

1. Connect the AC adapter to the projector’s AC adapter port.

2. Connect the power cord to the AC adapter.

3. Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet. The projector will enter standby mode.

4. Press the power button on the projector or the remote control. The status indicator turns white, and the projector turns on. The Auto Shape Correction feature will automatically correct the focus and image distortion.

Turning Off the Projector (Suspended Mode):

1. Press the power button on the projector or remote control. The light source turns off, the status indicator turns off, and the projector enters suspended mode.

2. To transport or store the projector, ensure the status indicator is off, and then unplug the power cord.

Turning Off the Projector (Deep Standby Mode):

To reduce power consumption, you can use deep standby mode.

1. Hold down the power button on the remote control.

2. Select OK on the shutdown confirmation screen. The projector enters deep standby mode, which consumes less power than suspended mode but takes longer to start up.

You may need to change the projection mode depending on how you have positioned your EPSON LIFESTUDIO FLEX EF-71. The available modes are:

• Front: For projecting from in front of the screen.

• Rear: Flips the image horizontally for projecting from behind a translucent screen.

To change the projection mode:

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the Settings button on the remote control to open the dashboard.

3. Select the Settings icon on the dashboard.

4. Select the menus in the following order: Projector > Advanced Settings > Projection.

5. Select a projection mode and press [Enter].

6. Press the Esc button to exit the menus.

If you are projecting from a flat surface and need to adjust the image position on your EPSON LIFESTUDIO FLEX EF-71, you can tilt the projector on its stand.

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. To adjust the vertical image height, use both hands to slowly tilt the projector up or down. You can adjust the position from -15 to +90 degrees vertically.

3. To adjust the horizontal position, slowly turn the projector left or right.

Important Notes:

• When tilting the projector more than 60 degrees upwards, remove the fabric cover to avoid damage.

• Do not tilt or turn the projector beyond its range of movement, as this may cause a malfunction.

• Do not get your fingers caught in the movable parts of the stand.

• Do not turn the projector by holding the connected cables.

Your EPSON LIFESTUDIO FLEX EF-71 has several features to correct the image shape if it is not rectangular.

Correcting the Image Shape and Focus Automatically (Auto Shape Correction):

When the projector is moved or tilted, Auto Shape Correction automatically corrects focus and keystone distortion. This feature operates when the diagonal image size is between 30 to 100 inches and the installation angle is within 20° (right, left, up, or down). If you set Obstacle Avoidance to On, the image is projected to avoid obstacles on the projection surface.

Adjusting the Size and Position of the Image (Zoom & Shift):

1. Press the Settings button on the remote, then select the Settings icon.

2. Go to Projector > Keystone > Zoom & Shift.

3. Use the left and right arrow buttons to adjust the image size (Zoom).

4. Press [Enter] to switch to Shift mode, then use the arrow buttons to adjust the image position.

Automatically Correcting with Screen Fit:

This feature automatically corrects the shape and position to fit your screen.

1. Press the Settings button, then select the Settings icon.

2. Go to Projector > Keystone > Screen Fit.

3. Move the projector so the on-screen message is in the middle of the screen.

4. Expand the projection area so it extends beyond the edges of the screen.

5. Select START to begin the correction.

Correcting Manually with Quick Corner:

1. Press the Settings button, then select the Settings icon.

2. Go to Projector > Keystone > Quick Corner.

3. Use the [Enter] button to select a corner of the image, then use the arrow buttons to adjust its position.

You can correct the focus of the projected image on your EPSON LIFESTUDIO FLEX EF-71 using the projector menus.

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the Focus button on the remote control. The focus adjustment screen will be displayed.

3. Press the left and right arrow buttons on the remote control to adjust the focus setting.

4. Press the Esc button to exit the menus.

When multiple image sources are connected to your EPSON LIFESTUDIO FLEX EF-71, you can switch between them by following these steps:

1. Make sure the connected image source you want to use is turned on.

2. For video sources like a DVD player, insert the media and press play.

3. Press the Source Search button on the remote control.

4. Press the up or down arrow button to select the image source you want to view.

4. Go to Display & Sound > Display > Picture Mode.

5. Select the color mode you want to use from the list.

6. Press the Esc button to exit.

Available Color Modes:

You can use the speaker on your EPSON LIFESTUDIO FLEX EF-71 to output audio from a video/audio device connected by Bluetooth.

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the Settings button on the remote control to open the dashboard.

3. Select the Settings icon on the dashboard.

4. Select the menus in the following order: Projector > Bluetooth Speaker Mode. The Bluetooth Speaker Mode screen is displayed.

5. Enable the Bluetooth function on the device you want to connect and select the projector name from the available device list. The projected image turns off 10 seconds after the connection is established.

6. Press the Esc button to exit Bluetooth Speaker Mode.

Notes:

• There may be a delay in the audio output from the Bluetooth device.

• You cannot connect multiple devices by Bluetooth at the same time.

• To check or change the projector’s name, go to System > About > Device name.

You can temporarily turn off the projected image from your EPSON LIFESTUDIO FLEX EF-71 without turning the projector off.

1. Press the Settings button on the remote control to open the dashboard.

2. Select the Settings icon on the dashboard.

3. Select the menus in the following order: Display & Sound > Display > Advanced Settings.

4. Select Picture off to turn off the projected image.

5. To turn the image back on, press the Esc button.

You can stream entertainment from your favorite apps on your phone, tablet, or laptop to your EPSON LIFESTUDIO FLEX EF-71 using Google Cast.

1. Connect your device or computer to the same wireless network as the projector.

2. Open a Google Cast-enabled app and press the Cast icon.

3. Select your projector from the list of devices. The app will connect and start casting to the projector.

4. To stop casting, press the Cast icon in the app and choose the disconnect option.

You can check and change the projector’s name from the menu: System > About > Device name.

When an audio/video source that meets the HDMI CEC standard is connected, you can use the projector’s remote to control certain features of the linked device.

1. Press the Settings button on the remote control to open the dashboard.

2. Select the Settings icon on the dashboard.

3. Go to Channels & Inputs > Inputs > Global CEC control.

4. Set Global CEC control to On.

5. Adjust the following HDMI CEC settings as necessary:

• To automatically turn off the connected device when you turn off the projector, set Allow TV to turn off connected devices to On.

• To automatically turn on the projector when you turn on the connected device, set Allow connected devices to turn on TV to On.

6. Press the Esc button to exit the menus.

You can now use the projector’s remote to control functions like playback, stop, or volume on the linked device.

You can get the latest version of the projector firmware using the Epson Projector Update app.

1. Press the Home button on the remote control.

2. Select Apps and start Epson Projector Update by selecting it from the apps list.

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to update the firmware.

Attention: While updating the firmware, do not operate or turn off the projector.

Notes:

• If the Epson Projector Update app is not installed, you can install it from the home screen.

• When new firmware is available, a notification is automatically displayed. Follow the on-screen instructions to update.

• If there is not enough space in the internal storage, the update may fail. Free up space by deleting unnecessary apps and caches, then try again.

You can reset all of the projector settings on your EPSON LIFESTUDIO FLEX EF-71 to their default values. This process, also known as initializing, will delete all information such as installed apps, Google Account login information, and menu settings.

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the Settings button on the remote control to open the dashboard.

3. Select the Settings icon on the dashboard.

4. Select the menus in the following order: System > About > Reset > Factory reset.

5. Follow the on-screen instructions to start initializing the projector.

Cleaning the Lens:

• To remove dust or smudges, gently wipe the lens with clean and dry lens-cleaning paper.

• If the lens is dusty, blow off dust using a blower, then wipe the lens.

• Warning: Before cleaning, turn off the projector and unplug the power cord. Do not use flammable gas sprays.

• Attention: Do not wipe the lens right after turning off the projector as it may be hot.

Cleaning the Projector Case:

• Before cleaning, turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.

• To remove dust or dirt, use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.

• To remove stubborn dirt, use a soft cloth moistened with water and mild soap. Do not spray liquid directly on the projector.

• Attention: Do not use wax, alcohol, benzene, paint thinner, or other chemicals.

Cleaning the Air Filters and Intake Vents:

You need to clean the air filter or vents when they get dusty or the Status indicator turns orange. It is recommended to clean them about once a year.

1. Turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.

2. Gently remove the dust using a small vacuum designed for computers or a very soft brush (such as a paintbrush).

• Attention: Do not use canned air. If dust is difficult to remove or the filter is damaged, contact Epson for help.

The status indicator light on your EPSON LIFESTUDIO FLEX EF-71 helps diagnose its condition. Refer to the table below for solutions.

If the indicators display a pattern not listed here, turn the projector off, unplug it, and contact Epson for help.

If your EPSON LIFESTUDIO FLEX EF-71 does not turn on when you press the power button, try the following steps:

1. Make sure the power cord is securely connected to the projector, to a working electrical outlet, and to the AC adapter.

2. If you are using the remote control, check the batteries. They may need to be replaced.

3. The power cord or the AC adapter may be defective. Disconnect the cord and contact Epson for assistance.

If the light source on your EPSON LIFESTUDIO FLEX EF-71 turns off unexpectedly, check the following possible causes:

• The projector may have turned off due to the Shut-Off Timer setting in the Power & Energy menu. Press the power button to turn it back on. You can adjust this timer in System > Power & Energy > Shut-Off Timer.

• If using the HDMI source, the projector may have entered standby mode due to the No signal standby timeout setting. If no signal is received for the specified time, it will enter standby. Press the power button to wake it. You can adjust this setting in Channels & Inputs > Inputs > HDMI 1 > No signal standby timeout.

• If the status indicator is lit orange, the projector has overheated and turned off. Let it cool down and check for blocked vents or a dirty air filter.

If no image is displayed from your EPSON LIFESTUDIO FLEX EF-71, try the following solutions:

1. Check the projector’s status:

• Check the status indicator to confirm it is in normal operating status (lit white).

• Press the power button to wake the projector from standby mode.

2. Check the cable connection:

• Make sure all necessary cables are securely connected.

• Connect the video source directly to the projector, bypassing any adapters or extension cables.

2. Ensure At Power-On from Shutdown and While Moving are set to On in the Projector > Keystone > Auto Shape Correction menu.

3. Run the Start Corrections function in the same menu.

4. Use Screen Fit to automatically correct the shape to fit your screen.

5. If needed, adjust manually using Quick Corner in the Projector > Keystone menu.

For a Fuzzy or Blurry Image:

1. Press the Focus button on the remote and adjust the focus manually.

2. Position the projector closer to the screen.

3. Ensure the keystone adjustment angle is not so wide that it distorts the image.

4. Clean the projector’s lens.

5. Adjust the Sharpness setting in the Display & Sound > Display menu.

6. If projecting from a computer, select a resolution that matches the projector’s native resolution.

For Missing or Low Audio:

1. Adjust the volume using the up/down buttons on the remote control.

2. Check the cable connection between the projector and your video source.

3. Check your video source to ensure its volume is turned up and audio output is set correctly.

4. If you want audio from the projector’s speakers, set Global CEC control to Off in Channels & Inputs > Inputs.

5. If you want to output audio to an external eARC/ARC device, set Global CEC control to On and ensure your HDMI cable is compliant.

6. If audio is not outputting correctly to an external device, try changing the Digital Output setting to PCM in Display & Sound > Audio Output.

For Bluetooth Speaker Mode Problems:

1. Select Bluetooth Speaker Mode in the Projector menu and press [Enter].

2. Select the projector name from the list of available Bluetooth devices on your audio device.

3. Check that your Bluetooth audio device’s volume is turned up.

4. Make sure only one Bluetooth device is connected to the projector at a time.

5. Check for obstacles between the device and the projector, and ensure they are within the specified communication distance.

6. Avoid using the projector near other 2.4 GHz devices like Wi-Fi routers or microwave ovens, which can cause interference.

If your EPSON LIFESTUDIO FLEX EF-71 projector does not respond to remote control commands, try these steps:

1. Check that the remote control batteries are installed correctly and have power. If necessary, replace them.

2. Check if any buttons on the remote are stuck down. Return them to their normal positions.

3. If the pairing screen is displayed, perform pairing again by holding down the Home button and Enter button at the same time for about three seconds.
