For optimal performance of your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61G, follow these placement guidelines:

1. Place the projector on a sturdy, level surface or install it using a compatible mount.

2. Leave plenty of space around and under the projector for ventilation. Do not place it on top of or next to anything that could block the vents.

3. Place the projector so it squarely faces the screen, not at an angle. If you cannot install the projector squarely facing the screen, correct any resulting keystone distortion using the projector controls. For the best quality images, it is recommended to adjust the installation position of the projector to achieve the correct image size and shape.

Warning:

• Do not cover the projector’s air intake or air exhaust vents. If the vents are covered, the internal temperature could rise and cause a fire.

• Do not install the projector on an unstable surface or in a location beyond its weight specifications. Otherwise, it could fall or topple, causing an accident and injury.

• Do not use or store the projector in locations where it will be subject to dust or dirt, which can decline image quality or clog the air filter.

You can set up or install your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61G in the following ways. Make sure you select the correct Projection option in the projector’s menu according to the installation method being used.

• Front/Rear: You can place the projector on a table in front of the screen or behind a translucent screen.

• Front Ceiling/Rear Ceiling: You can mount the projector on a ceiling, projecting either in front of the screen or behind a translucent screen.

To ensure proper ventilation and prevent overheating of your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61G, you must leave the following amount of space around the projector:

1. Turn the projector upside down.

2. Attach the mounting hardware from the tripod or stand to the projector’s mounting hole using a 1/4-20 UNC size (6.35 mm outer diameter) fixing screw with a minimum depth of 8.4 mm.

3. If installing in a high place, attach the optional safety wire set (ELPWR01) to the safety wire attachment point for safety purposes.

4. Mount the projector on the tripod or stand. For details, see the documentation supplied with the tripod or projector stand.

Warning:

• Use a tripod that is strong enough to support the weight of the projector.

• Securely tighten the tripod’s screw into the projector’s mounting hole. If the screw loosens, the projector could fall or topple.

• Do not carry the projector while it is mounted on a tripod.

• Place the tripod on a flat and stable surface.

To connect a video source like a computer or media player with an HDMI port to your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61G, follow these steps:

Attention: Do not turn on the video source before connecting it to the projector. Doing so could damage the projector.

1. Connect one end of an HDMI cable to your video source’s HDMI output port.

2. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the projector’s HDMI port.

When sending 18 Gbps images such as 4K 60Hz 4:4:4, use an HDMI cable (premium-high speed). If you use an incompatible cable, images may not be displayed correctly.

You can connect devices like a microphone, USB flash drive, digital camera, or USB hard drive to your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61G.

1. If your USB device has its own power adapter, plug the device into an electrical outlet.

2. Connect the USB device to the projector’s USB-A port.

Note:

• The USB-A port is not guaranteed to operate all devices that support USB.

• You may need an app to project content from your USB device.

• USB hard drives must be USB Mass Storage Class-compliant, formatted in FAT16/32, and self-powered by their own AC power supplies.

• Use a USB cable that is three meters or less. If the cable is too long, the device may not operate correctly.

To connect headphones to your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61G, connect the stereo headphone’s mini-jack cable to the projector’s Audio Out port. You can then control the volume using the projector’s remote control.

Attention: The projector’s Audio Out port only supports 3-pin headphones. If you use any other headphones, audio may not be output normally.

Caution: Do not start a playback at a high volume setting. Sudden loud noises may cause hearing loss. Always lower the volume before powering off, so that you can power on and then gradually increase the volume.

The remote control for your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61G uses two AAA batteries. Follow these steps to install or replace them:

1. Remove the battery cover as shown in the user guide diagrams.

2. Remove the old batteries, if necessary. Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.

3. Insert the two new AAA batteries with the + and – ends facing as shown inside the battery holder.

4. Replace the battery cover and press it down until it clicks into place.

Warning: Check the positions of the (+) and (-) marks inside the battery holder to ensure the batteries are inserted the correct way. If the batteries are not used correctly, they could explode or leak causing a fire, injury, or damage to the product.

The remote control for the EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61G lets you control the projector from almost anywhere in the room. For best results, aim the remote control at the projector’s receivers within the following distance and angles:

• Distance: Up to 16.4 feet (5 m).

• Angle (Front Receiver): Within a 30° angle up or down from the receiver.

• Angle (Rear Receiver): Within a 15° angle up or down from the receiver.

Note: Avoid using the remote control in conditions with bright fluorescent lights or in direct sunlight, or the projector may not respond to commands. If you are not going to use the remote control for a long time, remove the batteries.

When you turn on your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61G for the first time, you need to set up the projector’s OS using the initial setup wizard. Follow these steps:

1. Turn on the projector.

2. When the pairing screen is displayed, hold down the Home button and Esc button on the remote control at the same time to pair the remote control with the projector. When pairing starts, the indicator on the remote control flashes. When pairing is complete, the indicator turns off.

3. When the language selection screen is displayed, select the language you want to use, and then follow the on-screen instructions to select your country or region.

4. When the setting screen is displayed, follow the on-screen instructions to make the initial settings for the projector’s OS. It is recommended to log in with your Google Account for more detailed settings.

5. When the Wi-Fi setting screen is displayed, select the wireless network you want to use, and then follow the on-screen instructions to make necessary settings. An internet connection is required to view online content.

6. Follow the on-screen instructions to make other necessary settings.

7. When you agree to the EPSON license terms, the initial setup wizard closes.

When you have finished the initial setup, the home screen is displayed.

Follow these steps to power on your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61G:

1. Connect the AC adapter to the projector’s AC adapter port.

2. Connect the power cord to the AC adapter.

3. Plug the power cord into a working electrical outlet. The projector enters standby mode, indicating it is receiving power.

4. Press the power button on the projector or the remote control to turn on the projector. The status indicator turns white, and the Auto Shape Correction feature automatically corrects the focus and any distortion of the projected image.

Warning:

• Never look into the projector lens when the light source is on. This can damage your eyes and is especially dangerous for children.

• During projection, do not block the light from the projector with objects. This could cause the object to melt, burn, or start a fire, and may also cause the projector to malfunction.

To turn off your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61G and put it into suspended mode, follow these steps:

1. Press the power button on the projector or remote control. The light source turns off, the status indicator turns off, and the projector enters suspended mode.

2. To transport or store the projector, make sure the status indicator on the projector is off, and then unplug the power cord.

Note: Turn off this product when it is not in use to prolong the life of the projector. Light source life varies depending on environmental conditions and usage. Brightness decreases over time.

To reduce power consumption when the projector is not in use, you can turn it off completely by entering deep standby mode.

1. Hold down the power button on the remote control.

2. Select OK on the shutdown confirmation screen.

The light source turns off, and the status indicator turns off. The projector enters deep standby mode, which consumes less power than suspended mode. It will take longer for the projector to start up the next time you turn it on.

3. To transport or store the projector, make sure the status indicator is off, and then unplug the power cord.

You may need to change the projection mode on your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61G so that images project correctly depending on how you have positioned the projector. The available modes are:

• Front: Lets you project from in front of the screen.
• Front/Ceiling: Flips the image over top-to-bottom to project upside-down from a ceiling.
• Rear: Flips the image horizontally to project from behind a translucent screen.
• Rear/Ceiling: Flips the image over top-to-bottom and horizontally to project from a ceiling and behind a translucent screen.

To change the projection mode:

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the Settings button on the remote control to open the dashboard.

3. Select the settings icon on the dashboard.

4. Select the menus in the following order: sProjector > Advanced Settings > Projection

5. Select a projection mode and press [Enter].

6. Press the Esc button to exit the menus.

If you are projecting from a table and the image is too high or low, you can adjust the image height using the projector’s adjustable foot.

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the foot release lever to extend and retract the front adjustable foot. The foot extends from the projector, and you can adjust the position up to 8 degrees.

3. Release the lever to lock the foot in place.

Note: The larger the angle of tilt, the harder it becomes to focus. Locate the projector so that it only needs to be tilted at a small angle. If the projected image becomes unevenly rectangular, you will need to adjust the image shape.

When the EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61G projector is moved or tilted, the Auto Shape Correction feature automatically corrects the focus and any keystone distortion of the projected image.

This feature operates under the following conditions:

• When the size of the projected image (diagonal length) before correction is from 30 to 100 inches.

• When the projection distance is about 195.6 to 105 inches (77 to 267 cm).

• When the installation angle of the projector toward the projection surface is within 20º right, left, up, or down.

To manually perform Auto Shape Correction, select Start Corrections from the projector menu at sProjector > Keystone > Auto Shape Correction > Start Corrections.

You can use the Zoom & Shift feature to manually adjust the size and position of the projected image on your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61G.

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the Settings button on the remote control to open the dashboard.

3. Select the settings icon on the dashboard.

4. Select the menus in the following order: sProjector > Keystone > Zoom & Shift. The zoom adjustment screen is displayed.

5. Use the left and right arrow buttons to adjust the image size.

6. Press the [Enter] button. The screen switches to Shift mode.

7. Use the arrow buttons to adjust the image position.

8. Press the Esc button to exit the menus.

The Screen Fit feature on your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61G automatically corrects the shape and position of images to fit your screen. It operates under specific conditions, including a screen size from 30 to 100 inches and a projection angle within about 15º.

To use Screen Fit:

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the Settings button on the remote control to open the dashboard.

3. Select the settings icon on the dashboard.

4. Select the menus in the following order: sProjector > Keystone > Screen Fit. You will see a message on the screen.

5. Move the projector as necessary to display the message in the middle of the screen.

6. Expand the projection area so that it extends beyond the edges of the screen. Move the projector farther away if needed.

7. Select START. Do not move the projector or block the image during adjustment. The projected image will be corrected, and a completion message will be displayed.

If your projected image is unevenly rectangular, you can use the Quick Corner setting to correct its shape and size.

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the Settings button on the remote control to open the dashboard.

3. Select the settings icon on the dashboard.

4. Select the menus in the following order: sProjector > Keystone > Quick Corner. The Quick Corner screen will appear.

5. Use the [Enter] button to select the corner point on the image you want to adjust, then use the arrow buttons to adjust the image shape at that point.

6. Press the Esc button to exit the menus.

Note: To reset the corrections, press and hold the [Enter] button.

You can correct the focus of the projected image using the projector menus.

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the Focus button on the remote control. The focus adjustment screen is displayed.

3. Press the left and right arrow buttons on the remote control to adjust the focus setting.

4. Press the Esc button to exit the menus.

If you have multiple image sources connected to your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61G, you can switch between them as follows:

1. Make sure the connected image source you want to use is turned on.

2. For video sources like a DVD player, insert the media and press play.

3. Press the Source Search button on the remote control.

4. Press the up or down arrow button to select the image source you want.

If no image signal is detected, check the cable connections between the projector and the image source.

You can change the aspect ratio (width-to-height ratio) of the displayed image. Note that this setting is only available when the current input source is HDMI 1.

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the Settings button on the remote control to open the dashboard.

3. Select the settings icon on the dashboard.

4. Select the menus in the following order: sDisplay & Sound > Screen

5. Select one of the available aspect ratios for your input signal.

6. Press the Esc button to exit the menus.

Available Image Aspect Ratios:

The EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61G offers different color modes for optimum brightness, contrast, and color. To change the color mode:

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the Settings button on the remote control to open the dashboard.

3. Select the settings icon on the dashboard.

4. Select the menus in the following order: sDisplay & Sound > Display > Picture Mode

5. Select the color mode you want to use from the list.

6. Press the Esc button to exit the menus.

Available Color Modes:

You can adjust the brightness of your projector’s light source by following these steps:

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the Brightness up/down buttons on the remote control. The Light Output adjustment gauge is displayed.

3. Press the Brightness up/down buttons again to adjust the brightness.

4. Press the Esc button to exit the menus.

The volume buttons on the remote control the projector’s internal speaker system and can also control any external speakers you connected.

1. Turn on the projector and start a video.

2. To lower or raise the volume, press the Volume up/down buttons on the remote control. A volume gauge appears on the screen.

Caution: Do not start playback at a high volume setting as sudden loud noises may cause hearing loss. Always lower the volume before powering off.

You can use your projector’s speaker to output audio from a video/audio device connected by Bluetooth.

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the Settings button on the remote control to open the dashboard.

3. Select the settings icon on the dashboard.

4. Select the menus in the following order: sProjector > Bluetooth Speaker Mode. The Bluetooth Speaker Mode screen is displayed.

5. Enable the Bluetooth function on the device you want to connect and select the projector name from the available device list.

The projected image turns off 10 seconds after the Bluetooth connection is established. Press the Esc button to exit Bluetooth Speaker Mode.

You can temporarily turn off the projected image (AV Mute) without turning off the projector.

1. Press the Settings button on the remote control to open the dashboard.

2. Select the settings icon on the dashboard.

3. Select the menus in the following order: sDisplay & Sound > Display > Advanced Settings

4. Select Picture off to turn off the projected image.

5. To turn the image back on, press the Esc button.

With Google Cast, you can stream entertainment from your favorite apps on your phone, tablet, or laptop to your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61G projector.

1. Connect your device or computer to the same wireless network as the projector.

2. Open the Google Cast-enabled app and press the Cast icon.

3. Select your projector from the list of devices.

The app connects and starts casting to the projector.

4. To stop casting, press the Cast icon in the app and choose the disconnect option.

You can reset all of the projector settings to their default values (factory reset). Be aware that if you initialize the projector, all information such as installed apps, Google Account login information, and the projector’s menu settings will be deleted. Write down any settings you do not want to lose before performing initialization.

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the Settings button on the remote control to open the dashboard.

3. Select the settings icon on the dashboard.

4. Select the menus in the following order: sSystem > About > Reset > Factory reset

5. Follow the on-screen instructions to start initializing the projector.

Clean the projector’s lens periodically, or whenever you notice dust or smudges on the surface.

Warning: Before cleaning the lens, turn off the projector and unplug the power cord. Do not use any flammable gas sprays such as air dusters to blow off dust, as the high heat from the projector may cause a fire.

Attention: Do not wipe the lens right after you turn off the projector, as this could damage the lens. Do not use harsh materials or subject the lens to impacts.

• To remove dust or smudges, gently wipe the lens with clean and dry lens-cleaning paper.

• If the lens is dusty, blow off the dust using a blower, and then wipe the lens.

Before cleaning the projector case, turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.

• To remove dust or dirt, use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.

• To remove stubborn dirt, use a soft cloth moistened with water and mild soap. Do not spray liquid directly on the projector.

Attention: Do not use wax, alcohol, benzene, paint thinner, or other chemicals to clean the projector case, as these can cause damage. Do not use canned air, as the gases may leave a flammable residue.

Regular filter maintenance is important to maintain your projector. You should clean the air filter or intake vents in the following situations:

• The filter or vents get dusty.

• The projector’s Status indicator turns orange.

• A message appears telling you the temperature inside the projector has reached a high level.

It is recommended to clean these parts about once every year, or more often if used in a dusty environment.

To clean the filter and vents:

1. Turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.

2. Gently remove the dust using a small vacuum designed for computers or a very soft brush (such as a paintbrush).

Attention: Do not use canned air. The gases may leave a flammable residue or push dust and debris into the projector’s optics. If dust is difficult to remove or the air filter is damaged, contact Epson for assistance.

The status indicator light on your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61G indicates the projector’s current status and can help diagnose problems.

If your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61G does not turn on when you press the power button, try the following steps:

1. Make sure the power cord is securely connected to the projector, to a working electrical outlet, and to the AC adapter.

2. If you are using the remote control, check the batteries of the remote control and replace them if necessary.

3. The power cord or the AC adapter may be defective. Disconnect the cord and contact Epson for help.

If your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61G’s light source turns off unexpectedly, try these solutions:

1. The projector may have turned off due to the Shut-Off Timer setting in the sSystem > Power & Energy menu. Press the power button on the projector or remote control to turn it back on.

2. If there is no input signal from the HDMI source for the time specified in No signal standby timeout, the projector automatically enters standby mode. Press the power button to wake the projector. You can adjust this setting at sChannels & Inputs > Inputs > HDMI 1 > No signal standby timeout.

3. If the status indicator is lit orange, the projector has overheated and turned off. Check for blocked vents and allow it to cool down.

If no image is displayed from your EPSON LIFESTUDIO POP EF-61G, try the following steps:

1. Check the projector’s status: Ensure the status indicator shows normal operating status (lit white). If it’s in standby (off), press the power button to wake it.

2. Check cable connections: Make sure all necessary cables are securely connected and the power is on for the projector. Try connecting the video source directly to the projector and replace the HDMI cable with a shorter one if possible (16.5 feet / 5 meters or less is recommended).

3. Check your video source: Turn on the connected video source and press the play button if necessary. If you’re projecting from a laptop, make sure it is set to display on an external monitor.

4. Check other items: Ensure your Wi-Fi is on for online content. Turn off the projector and video source, then turn them back on. Reset all of the projector settings to their default values if other steps fail.

If the projected image is fuzzy or blurry, try the following solutions:

1. Press the Focus button on the remote control to display the focus adjustment screen and adjust the focus manually.

2. Position the projector close enough to the screen.

3. Position the projector so the keystone adjustment angle is not so wide that it distorts the image.

4. Clean the projector’s lens.

5. To avoid condensation on the lens after bringing the projector in from a cold environment, let the projector warm up to room temperature before using it.

6. Adjust the Sharpness setting in the projector’s menu at sDisplay & Sound > Display > Sharpness.

7. If projecting from a computer, use a lower resolution or select a resolution that matches the projector’s native resolution.

If the projected image is upside-down, you have likely selected the wrong projection mode for your setup (e.g., a ceiling mount). To fix this, select the correct projection mode by navigating to sProjector > Advanced Settings > Projection in the projector’s menu.

If there is no sound or the volume is too low, try these steps:

1. Adjust the projector’s volume settings using the volume up/down buttons on the remote control.

2. Check the cable connection between the projector and your video source.

3. Check your video source to make sure its volume is turned up and the audio output is set for the correct source.

4. If you want to output audio from the projector’s speakers, check that Global CEC control is set to Off in the menu at sChannels & Inputs > Inputs > Global CEC control.

5. If you want to output audio to an external audio device that supports HDMI eARC/ARC, set Global CEC control to On and ensure the HDMI cable is compliant with HDMI eARC and ARC.

If the projector does not respond to remote control commands or responds slowly, try these solutions:

1. Check that the remote control batteries are installed correctly and have power. If necessary, replace the batteries.

2. Check if any buttons on the remote control are stuck down. Return them to their normal positions.

3. If the pairing screen is displayed, perform pairing again by holding down the Home button and Esc button on the remote control at the same time for about three seconds.

4. Make sure you are operating the remote control within its reception angle and range.

5. Strong fluorescent lighting, direct sunlight, or infrared device signals may be interfering with the projector’s remote receivers. Dim the lights or move the projector away from the sun or interfering equipment.

6. The remote control may be defective. Contact Epson for help.
