To avoid damage to the speakers and other components, follow these instructions:

Unbox the ELAC DEBUT 3.0 DF53 speakers carefully to avoid physically damaging them.

Use appropriate gauge wires. A minimum of 16 gauge wire is recommended for runs up to 25 feet.

Ensure wire polarity is connected correctly. Most speaker cables are coded for ease of use. Ensure the positive (red) connection on the amplifier terminal is connected to the positive (red) terminal on your speakers. Follow the same instructions for the negative side.

Ensure your equipment is turned off before connecting the ELAC DEBUT 3.0 DF53 speakers.

Check to ensure positive and negative wires are not touching each other once they are connected to the speaker terminals.

To connect the cables to your ELAC DEBUT 3.0 DF53, strip off approximately 1/2 inch of the insulation from the ends of the speaker cable. Twist the bare strands tightly and insert them into the binding post terminals on the back of the speaker.

Place the ELAC DEBUT 3.0 DF53 speakers approximately one to two feet away from boundaries such as walls and especially corners. Close proximity to a side or rear wall will enhance bass performance, but being too close (particularly to a corner) may result in bass that is unnatural.

If a corner location is unavoidable, try to position the ELAC DEBUT 3.0 DF53 so that the distance to the rear wall is not equal to the distance to the side wall.

For the best results and the most realistic stereo image, place the ELAC DEBUT 3.0 DF53 speakers so that an equilateral triangle is created between the speakers and your favorite listening position. This setup creates optimum imaging performance.

If you find that the left and right speakers are too far apart, angle (toe in) them towards the listening position to gain a more focused central image.

When using the ELAC DEBUT 3.0 DF53 for a 5.1-channel surround setup, avoid placing the speakers forward of your listening position. They should be spread apart wider than the front speakers. In addition, elevate the speakers to the same height or slightly higher than the front speakers for the most enveloping sound field. You may need to experiment with positioning by pointing the speakers towards the listening area.

The only regular maintenance required is occasional dusting. Use a soft, smooth cloth or a dust brush to clean the ELAC DEBUT 3.0 DF53. Do not use scouring agents, alcohol, benzene, furniture polish, abrasive cleaners, or harsh detergents.

You can clean the speaker grilles using the brush attachment of a vacuum cleaner.

Because some chemical agents in modern furniture coatings can degrade or soften the rubber feet, it is advised to place an anti-slip mat underneath the speaker if necessary.

Install the ELAC DEBUT 3.0 DF53 speakers on a level surface only.

When choosing a location, do not place the speakers in areas that are: in direct sunlight, very humid, prone to vibrations, or exceptionally hot or cold.

Do not place the speakers near CRT Televisions as they are not magnetically shielded and may cause color issues with a CRT based TV. Similarly, do not place magnetic cards (such as credit cards) near the speakers as they may fail.

Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer instructions.

Do not install the speaker in a closed rack or a closed cupboard. Do not put burning candles on or near the speaker.

Do not install the speaker near transformers because electromagnetic stray fields can cause hum noise on the woofers.

The ELAC DEBUT 3.0 DF53 is equipped with spikes and anti-slip feet for leveling. To level the speaker on an uneven floor, unscrew the spikes or anti-slip feet by 2 to 3 turns of the thread. The speaker must always be in perfect vertical alignment to prevent tipping over.

Stability on carpeted surfaces can be increased by using the included spikes. Take care during installation as the spikes have very sharp ends which may cause injuries. On slippery floors, stability can be increased by using Velcro fastening tape or double-sided adhesive tape.
