As with all electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of electric shock, fire, or injury to persons. Read all the instructions before using this DEWALT DXF1840 fan. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. To reduce the risk of injury, read the instruction manual.

Use this DEWALT DXF1840 fan only as described in this manual. Any other use not recommended by the manufacturer may cause electrical shock, fire or injury to persons.

Do not operate the DEWALT DXF1840 fan with a damaged power cord or after the fan malfunctions or has been dropped in any manner.

Do not use outdoors.

Do not use the DEWALT DXF1840 fan in a window. Rain may cause electrical hazard.

Do not operate the DEWALT DXF1840 fan with blade guards or any safety device removed.

Do not use the DEWALT DXF1840 fan with any solid-state speed control device.

Do not insert or allow any object to enter any openings on the DEWALT DXF1840 fan. Doing so may cause electric shock and/or fire hazard. Avoid contact with moving parts.

The DEWALT DXF1840 fan is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.

Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.

The specifications for the DEWALT DXF1840 drum fan are:

Use only grounded extension cords that are rated for outdoor use, at least 15 amps, and have a third-wire ground. Extension cords in poor condition or that are too small in wire size can pose fire and shock hazards. To reduce these risks, ensure the cord is in good condition and the connection does not come into contact with liquid.

Operating the DEWALT DXF1840 fan at low voltage can cause it to overheat. Using an excessively long extension cord can cause the cord to overheat.

To keep power loss to a minimum, use the following table to choose the minimum wire size extension cord for the DEWALT DXF1840 fan:

Use this DEWALT DXF1840 fan only in dry environments. This fan is not intended for use in a bathroom, laundry area, or similar locations, or near sinks, washing machines, swimming pools or other sources of water. Never locate the DEWALT DXF1840 fan where it may fall into a bathtub or other water receptacle. Do not use in damp environments such as flooded basements.

Do not touch the DEWALT DXF1840 fan motor when in use. This motor is hot when in use, to avoid burns, do not let bare skin touch hot surfaces.

The DEWALT DXF1840 fan has arcing or sparking parts inside. Do not use near combustible materials or flammable gases or sources of heat. DO NOT USE in areas where gasoline, paint or flammable materials are used or stored. To prevent a possible fire, do not block air intakes or exhaust in any manner. Do not insert or allow foreign objects to enter any ventilation or exhaust opening as this may cause an electric shock, fire, or damage the fan.

Do not use the DEWALT DXF1840 fan with a damaged cord or plug. Use with an adequate electrical system that is up to code.

In the event of malfunction or breakdown, grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. The DEWALT DXF1840 fan must be connected to a cord having an equipment-grounding conductor and a grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.

Improper connection of the equipment grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric shock. The conductor with insulation having an outer surface that is green with or without yellow stripes is the equipment grounding conductor. If repair or replacement of the cord or plug is necessary, do not connect the equipment-grounding conductor to a live terminal. Check with a qualified electrician or service person if the grounding instructions are not completely understood, or if in doubt as to whether the DEWALT DXF1840 fan is properly grounded. Do not modify the plug connected to the DEWALT DXF1840 fan – if it will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician.

The DEWALT DXF1840 fan is for use on a nominal 120V circuit, and should be connected to a grounding outlet. A temporary adaptor may be used to connect this plug to a 2-pole receptacle if a properly grounded outlet is not available. The temporary adaptor should be used only until a properly grounded outlet can be installed by a qualified electrician. The green colored rigid ear, lug, and the like, extending from the adaptor must be connected to a permanent ground such as a properly grounded outlet box cover. Whenever the adaptor is used, it must be held in place by the metal screw.

Before assembling the DEWALT DXF1840 fan, make sure all parts are present. Compare parts with the contents list. If any part is missing or damaged, do not attempt to assemble, install, or operate the product. Unplug the DEWALT DXF1840 fan before assembling any parts to it.

The tools required (not included) to assemble the DEWALT DXF1840 fan are a #2 Phillips Screwdriver or a suitable drill equipped with a #2 Phillips Bit.

Simple assembly is required to use the DEWALT DXF1840 fan.

Align handles (2 and 3) with the holes on the handle base (4); insert five handle screws (1) and tighten. Do not over-tighten.

Align the cradle base (8) with the support bracket (6) (packed separately), press the support bracket (6) into the cradle base (8) until the spring button (7) protrudes out the open hole in the cradle base (8).

Align the adjustment knob pad (9), the assembled support bracket (21), and the adjustment knob (10) with the screw hole on the drum (11) as shown in the image above. Tighten them clockwise. Note: parts may need to be flexed slightly to allow for proper alignment.

Repeat the above process for the opposite side of the DEWALT DXF1840 fan.

Always operate the DEWALT DXF1840 fan with the cradle in its upright position. The fan itself can be tilted into various positions depending on applications, including straight upward.

To adjust the fan tilt: Loosen the adjustment knob until the drum rotates freely on the frame. Adjust the DEWALT DXF1840 fan to the desired tilt angle and re-tighten the knob. Do not overtighten the adjustment knob.

Place the DEWALT DXF1840 fan in an area in the room that will provide the most effective air circulation. For proper operation, the fan should be placed on a smooth, non-combustible, level surface.

Plug the DEWALT DXF1840 fan directly into a 120 volt A.C., 60Hz wall outlet. Be sure the plug fits tightly in the outlet. A loose connection may cause overheating and damage to the plug or fan. To prevent overloading a circuit, do not plug the DEWALT DXF1840 fan into a circuit that is servicing other electrical loads.

To turn the DEWALT DXF1840 fan on: Place the fan on a stable, level surface. Plug the fan into a properly grounded outlet. To start the fan, turn the switch from the OFF position to the desired fan speed.

To turn the DEWALT DXF1840 fan off: Turn the switch from the current fan speed setting to the off position. Remove the plug from the outlet.

Before cleaning the DEWALT DXF1840 fan, be sure to disconnect the power cord from the plug. Clean the grille surface with a clean damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemical or abrasive cleaners. DO NOT IMMERSE THE DEWALT DXF1840 FAN OR ANY WIRES IN WATER. Replace the front grille before fan use and allow the fan to dry completely before use. Periodic grille cleaning with a vacuum will prevent dust buildup. The motor is sealed and does not require any interior maintenance, cleaning or lubrication.

The internal motor bearings are permanently lubricated at the factory and do not require any additional lubrication.

DO NOT OPERATE the DEWALT DXF1840 fan WITHOUT THE GRILLE IN PLACE. DO NOT USE the DEWALT DXF1840 fan IF IT HAS MALFUNCTIONED OR BECOME DAMAGED IN ANY WAY.

Keep the original carton for storage of the DEWALT DXF1840 fan. Coil and tie the power cord to avoid damage during storage.

Since accessories, other than those offered by DEWALT, have not been tested with this product, use of such accessories with this appliance could be hazardous. To reduce the risk of injury, only DEWALT recommended accessories should be used with the DEWALT DXF1840 fan.

To reduce the risk of injury from moving parts and/or electrical shock, turn the power switch off and disconnect the grounded plug from the electrical outlet before performing troubleshooting checks. Minor problems can often be fixed without calling customer service.

If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.
