A DeWALT battery is necessary only for Fan, USB Power Outlets, and Light operation. A Propane gas supply is necessary only for Heating operation.

When the heater is cold, it will take a few minutes for the burner tile to turn bright orange. This is normal. If the burner tile is visibly flaming, turn the heater off and call a qualified service technician.

When the unit is lit, there should be about a quarter-inch border around the tile that will not turn bright orange. This is normal.

When operating for the first time, the top area of the reflector may discolor. This is normal and no reason for concern.

Always inspect the propane cylinder and heater propane connections for damage, dirt, and debris before attaching the cylinder. Do not use if the head of the cylinder is damaged, punctured, or deteriorated.

1. Use only 16.4 oz. (1 lb.) disposable cylinders.

2. The heater and attached cylinder must be in an upright position during operation.

3. Make sure the four-position Control Knob is in the “OFF” position.

4. Swivel the regulator outward for easy tank installation. Screw the 1 lb. cylinder clockwise (from the bottom) into the heater until hand-tight. DO NOT use thread sealant.

5. Check the connection for leaks with soapy water at the threaded connection under the domed plastic cover.

6. Ensure the heater is not exposed to flammable vapors or liquids during lighting.

7. Turn the control knob counterclockwise to the “PILOT” position and depress it. While holding the knob down, depress the pulse ignition button located in the USB Compartment. The pilot should remain lit.

8. After the pilot lights, hold the knob down for 30-60 seconds and then release it. The knob should return to the fully extended position.

9. To operate the heater, slightly depress the knob and gently turn to lock it in the “HI” position to light the burner tile. Leave it on “HI” until the burner tile turns bright orange.

10. If the heater does not light, hold the knob down for approximately 30 seconds, release, and depress again. Repeat until the pilot lights.

11. After the burner tile has turned bright orange, adjust the heat output by turning the control knob to the desired position (“LO” or “HI” setting).

WARNING: Do not operate the heater unless the control knob is locked in a position marked “HI”, “LO” or “PILOT”. Never set the control knob between locked positions as poor combustion and higher levels of carbon monoxide may result.


How do I start my DEWALT DXH12B using a hose connected to a remote propane cylinder (maximum size 20 lb.)?

1. Ensure the remote cylinder is located outdoors. Use only approved Mr. Heater hoses and fuel filter F273699 (replaced annually), or Buddy series hose (filter not required).

2. DANGER: NEVER bring a refillable propane cylinder indoors.

How do I stop the DEWALT DXH12B heater?

For 1 lb. Disposable Cylinder(s):

To shut off the heater, slightly push down and turn the control knob clockwise to the “OFF” position.

LP-GAS CYLINDERS MUST BE DISCONNECTED FROM HEATER WHEN NOT IN USE!

For Hose Connection(s) to Remote Cylinder(s):

To shut off the heater, shut off the propane at the supply tank.

Allow the heater to use up the propane in the supply line until the heater shuts off, then slightly push down the control knob and turn clockwise to the “OFF” position.

CAUTION: After turning the heater off, the wire guard will remain hot. Allow it to cool thoroughly before storing.


How do I use the electronic features like the fan, lights, and USB outlets on the DEWALT DXH12B?

A charged DeWALT battery must be inserted into the battery dock to activate electronic features. The features may be used individually or simultaneously. When any feature is in use, the status light will illuminate with a steady green glow.

8. Inspect and clean the main burner orifice.

9. Inspect and clean the pilot using a vacuum or air pressure. WARNING: Never use needles or wires to clean the pilot, as this can damage the calibrated orifice.

10. Apply air pressure (max. 30 psi) into the ceramic tile of the burner assembly and the venturi tube to remove dust, lint, or spider webs.

11. Reassemble the main burner orifice holder onto the burner.

12. Reinstall the burner assembly into the heater housing.

13. Reinstall the fuel line and check for leaks.

14. Install the heater back cover.

15. The exterior can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.


How should I store my DEWALT DXH12B heater?

1 lb. Propane cylinder(s) must be disconnected from the heater when not in use.

Indoor storage of the heater is permissible only if the cylinder is disconnected and removed from the heater. Cylinders must be stored outdoors out of the reach of children and not in a building, garage, or any other enclosed area.

IF SPARK ELECTRODE DOES NOT PRODUCE SPARK, CHECK:

Spark electrode is broken – replace ODS (Oxygen Depletion Sensor).

Igniter wire may not be attached to the spark electrode.

Igniter wire is damaged – replace.

Pulse Igniter Battery is dead – replace AAA battery.

IF SPARK ELECTRODE PRODUCES SPARK BUT PILOT DOES NOT LIGHT, CHECK:

No gas to the heater – install a disposable cylinder or connect the hose and filter and turn on the valve at the remote cylinder.

“PILOT” position not properly aligned – turn gas control knob to “PILOT” position and depress.

Pilot is blocked from spider web or dirt – clean pilot.

IF PILOT FLAME DOES NOT STAY LIT WHEN KNOB IS RELEASED, CHECK:

The control knob in the “PILOT” position is not completely depressed or held in long enough to purge air from lines.

Pilot flame is not surrounding the thermocouple – clean pilot.

Pilot Assembly is defective – replace.

Tip switch wires are disconnected – connect.

IF MAIN BURNER DOES NOT IGNITE, CHECK:

The main burner orifice is blocked – clean burner.

IF HEATER KEEPS SHUTTING “OFF” DURING NORMAL OPERATION, CHECK:

Pilot is blocked – clean pilot.

Provide a minimum fresh air opening of 9 square inches (e.g., 3″ x 3″ opening).

Tip-over switch was activated from bumping the heater. Re-light.

Regulator is defective – Replace regulator.

Internal contamination – Replace control valve and regulator.

How do I charge a DEWALT battery pack for the DXH12B heater?

1. Plug the charger into an appropriate outlet before inserting the battery pack.

2. Insert the battery pack into the charger, making sure it is fully seated. The red (charging) light will blink continuously, indicating the charging process has started.

3. The completion of the charge will be indicated by the red light remaining ON continuously. The battery pack is fully charged and can be used or left in the charger.

1. Longest life and best performance can be obtained if the battery pack is charged when the air temperature is between 65 °F and 75 °F (18° – 24 °C). DO NOT charge the battery pack in an air temperature below +40 °F (+4.5 °C), or above +104 °F (+40 °C).

2. The charger and battery pack may become warm to the touch while charging. This is a normal condition.

3. If the battery pack does not charge properly:

Check the operation of the receptacle by plugging in a lamp or other appliance.

Check to see if the receptacle is connected to a light switch that turns the power off.

Move the charger and battery pack to a location where the surrounding air temperature is approximately 65 °F – 75 °F (18° – 24 °C).

If charging problems persist, take the tool, battery pack, and charger to your local service center.

4. The battery pack should be recharged when it fails to produce sufficient power. DO NOT CONTINUE to use it under these conditions. You may also charge a partially used pack whenever you desire with no adverse effect.
