CARBON MONOXIDE HAZARD:

This appliance can produce carbon monoxide which has no odor.

Using it in an enclosed space can kill you.

Never use this appliance in an enclosed space such as a camper, tent, car or home.

FOR YOUR SAFETY:

Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors and liquids in the vicinity of this or any other appliance.

FIRE OR EXPLOSION HAZARD:

Improper installation, adjustment, alteration, service or maintenance can cause injury or property damage. Refer to this manual.

Any change to this heater or its controls can be dangerous.

If you smell gas, follow these steps immediately:

1. Do not attempt to light the appliance and make sure the appliance is in the “OFF” position.

2. Extinguish any nearby open flames.

3. Shut off the cylinder fuel supply valve, if so equipped.

4. Disconnect the disposable fuel cylinder, if so equipped.

5. Leave the area immediately.

6. Allow gas to dissipate for 5 minutes.

7. If the gas smell has dissipated from the area, the appliance, and fuel supply, follow gas connection procedures. If you smell gas again, follow steps 1-6 and have the appliance serviced.

Failure to follow these instructions could result in fire or explosion, which could cause property damage, personal injury, or death.

When used without adequate combustion and ventilation air, the DEWALT DXH12B heater may give off excessive CARBON MONOXIDE, an odorless, poisonous gas.

Early signs of carbon monoxide poisoning resemble the flu, with headache, dizziness and/or nausea. If you have these signs, the heater may not be working properly. Get fresh air at once and have the heater serviced.

Some people, including pregnant women, persons with heart or lung disease, anemia, those under the influence of alcohol, and those at high altitudes, are more affected by carbon monoxide than others.

Operating time will vary depending on the heater setting, supply cylinder size, and temperature of the surroundings.

A DeWALT battery is necessary only for Fan, USB Power Outlets, and Light operation. A Propane gas supply is necessary only for Heating operation.

When the heater is cold, it will take a few minutes for the burner tile to turn bright orange. This is normal. If the burner tile is visibly flaming, turn the heater off and call a qualified service technician.

When the unit is lit, there should be about a quarter-inch border around the tile that will not turn bright orange. This is normal.

When operating for the first time, the top area of the reflector may discolor. This is normal and no reason for concern.

The protective grill may give off noticeable smoke or fumes when used for the first time. This is normal and will not occur during subsequent uses.

At altitudes over 7,000 FT, the unit may not burn as bright and may shut off. If this happens, provide fresh air, wait 5 minutes, and then re-light.

If the heater is moved or bumped while lit, the tip-over switch may shut it off. If this happens, relight.

Due to the natural operation of small tanks, condensation may build up on the tank and drip on the surface under the heater.

This is a heating appliance. Do not operate without the front wire guard installed. Do not attempt to warm or cook food on this heater.

1. This heater is for outdoor use only.

2. The regulator must always be in place during operation.

3. Due to high temperatures, locate the appliance out of traffic and away from combustible materials.

4. Children and adults should be alerted to high surface temperatures and stay away to avoid burns.

5. Supervise young children when they are near the appliance.

6. Do not place clothing or other flammable material on or near the appliance.

7. If the wire guard is removed for servicing, it must be replaced prior to operating the heater.

8. Do not use non-approved attachments on this heater.

9. The appliance must be inspected before each use and kept clean.

10. Do not use this heater if any part has been underwater. Call a qualified service technician to inspect it.

11. This heater requires a vent area of 12 square inches (e.g., 3” x 4” opening) minimum for adequate ventilation. Do not use other fuel-burning appliances inside.

12. Gas pressure is regulated and fixed at 11″ W.C. Do not regulate or reduce propane tank supply pressure to the heater when using a remote hose.

13. Use only VAPOR WITHDRAWAL propane supply.

14. Do not leave this appliance unattended. Keep children and pets away at all times.

15. Ensure the ground is level when placed on the ground.

16. Do not operate heater in any moving vehicle.

17. This heater has a tip-over switch that will shut it off if it tips over. However, do not leave the heater unattended. NEVER OPERATE THE HEATER WHILE SLEEPING.

Always inspect the propane cylinder and heater propane connections for damage, dirt, and debris before attaching the cylinder. Do not use if the head of the cylinder is damaged, punctured, or deteriorated.

Always attach or detach the cylinder outdoors, away from flames and other ignition sources, and only when the heater is cool to the touch. Never smoke when attaching or removing the propane cylinder.

Propane cylinder(s) must be disconnected from the heater when not in use.

Only use disposable cylinders marked with the proper fuel type approved for the appliance.

The heater must not be exposed to flammable vapors or liquids during lighting.

Pulse Ignition: The Pulse Ignition Button is located at the bottom of the USB Compartment. Unscrew the button cap to install the “AAA” battery (included), with the positive end toward the button.

1. Use only 16.4 oz. (1 lb.) disposable cylinders.

2. The heater and attached cylinder must be in an upright position during operation.

3. Make sure the four-position Control Knob is in the “OFF” position.

4. Swivel the regulator outward for easy tank installation. Screw the 1 lb. cylinder clockwise (from the bottom) into the heater until hand-tight. DO NOT use thread sealant.

5. Check the connection for leaks with soapy water at the threaded connection under the domed plastic cover.

6. Ensure the heater is not exposed to flammable vapors or liquids during lighting.

7. Turn the control knob counterclockwise to the “PILOT” position and depress it. While holding the knob down, depress the pulse ignition button located in the USB Compartment. The pilot should remain lit.

8. After the pilot lights, hold the knob down for 30-60 seconds and then release it. The knob should return to the fully extended position.

9. To operate the heater, slightly depress the knob and gently turn to lock it in the “HI” position to light the burner tile. Leave it on “HI” until the burner tile turns bright orange.

10. If the heater does not light, hold the knob down for approximately 30 seconds, release, and depress again. Repeat until the pilot lights.

11. After the burner tile has turned bright orange, adjust the heat output by turning the control knob to the desired position (“LO” or “HI” setting).

WARNING: Do not operate the heater unless the control knob is locked in a position marked “HI”, “LO” or “PILOT”. Never set the control knob between locked positions as poor combustion and higher levels of carbon monoxide may result.

1. Ensure the remote cylinder is located outdoors. Use only approved Mr. Heater hoses and fuel filter F273699 (replaced annually), or Buddy series hose (filter not required).

2. DANGER: NEVER bring a refillable propane cylinder indoors.

3. Inspect the hose before each use. If worn or cut, replace it with an approved hose.

4. Ensure the propane cylinder includes a listed overfilling protection device and a collar to protect the cylinder valve.

5. The heater and attached cylinder must be in an upright position during operation.

6. Make sure the Control Knob is in the “OFF” position.

7. Swivel the regulator outward. Screw the hose connector into the regulator on the heater and the other end into the LP-gas supply cylinder valve. Tighten all connections. Do not use thread sealant.

8. Open the valve at the propane gas supply cylinder.

9. Check all hose connections for leaks with soapy water.

10. Follow steps 6-11 from the “How do I start my DEWALT DXH12B with a 1 lb. disposable propane cylinder?” instructions.

For 1 lb. Disposable Cylinder(s):

To shut off the heater, slightly push down and turn the control knob clockwise to the “OFF” position.

LP-GAS CYLINDERS MUST BE DISCONNECTED FROM HEATER WHEN NOT IN USE!

For Hose Connection(s) to Remote Cylinder(s):

To shut off the heater, shut off the propane at the supply tank.

Allow the heater to use up the propane in the supply line until the heater shuts off, then slightly push down the control knob and turn clockwise to the “OFF” position.

CAUTION: After turning the heater off, the wire guard will remain hot. Allow it to cool thoroughly before storing.

A charged DeWALT battery must be inserted into the battery dock to activate electronic features. The features may be used individually or simultaneously. When any feature is in use, the status light will illuminate with a steady green glow.

Lights: Toggling the Light control button on the back of the heater activates/deactivates the lights in the handle bar.

Fan: Toggling the Fan control button on the back of the heater activates/deactivates the fan. Using the fan enhances convective heating when the heater is active or can be used as a fan when the heater is inactive.

USB Power Outlets: Inside the USB Compartment, toggle the power button to activate/deactivate the 3 USB Power Outlets (5 Volts DC, 2 amps). The status light will illuminate when active. The USB power should be shut off when not in use to avoid draining the battery.

Steady On/Off Blinking: If the Status Light is blinking on and off steadily, it indicates the DeWALT battery is low on charge. The battery must be removed from the heater to be charged.

Double Flash (2 Blinks, 1 Pause): If the Status Light is “Double Flashing” (a repetition of 2 rapid blinks followed by a pause), it indicates that the battery is outside of its operating temperature range.

Always keep the heater area clear and free from combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable vapors and liquids. Keep the vent areas clear at all times.

Visually inspect the pilot flame and burner periodically. The pilot flame should be blue and extend beyond the thermocouple. The burner should be bright orange without a noticeable flame. If the pilot is yellow or the burner has a noticeable flame, cleaning may be required.

Detailed Cleaning and Inspection Procedure:

1. Allow the heater to cool thoroughly.

2. Remove the 1 lb. cylinder or turn OFF gas supply at the remote cylinder and disconnect the hose.

3. Remove the (4) four screws securing the rear cover.

4. Pivot the cover outward from the bottom and release it from the 2 top clips. Set aside.

5. Remove the (4) four burner retaining screws and the fuel line from the burner assembly.

6. Remove the burner assembly from the back of the housing.

7. Inspect the interior of the housing for dust, insects, or spider webs. Clean with a vacuum or air pressure if necessary.

8. Inspect and clean the main burner orifice.

9. Inspect and clean the pilot using a vacuum or air pressure. WARNING: Never use needles or wires to clean the pilot, as this can damage the calibrated orifice.

10. Apply air pressure (max. 30 psi) into the ceramic tile of the burner assembly and the venturi tube to remove dust, lint, or spider webs.

11. Reassemble the main burner orifice holder onto the burner.

12. Reinstall the burner assembly into the heater housing.

13. Reinstall the fuel line and check for leaks.

14. Install the heater back cover.

15. The exterior can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.

1 lb. Propane cylinder(s) must be disconnected from the heater when not in use.

Indoor storage of the heater is permissible only if the cylinder is disconnected and removed from the heater. Cylinders must be stored outdoors out of the reach of children and not in a building, garage, or any other enclosed area.

If a 20 lb. Propane cylinder is not disconnected from the heater, the heater and the cylinder must be stored outdoors, in a well-ventilated space, out of reach of children, and not in a building, garage, or any other enclosed area.

IF SPARK ELECTRODE DOES NOT PRODUCE SPARK, CHECK:

Spark electrode is broken – replace ODS (Oxygen Depletion Sensor).

Igniter wire may not be attached to the spark electrode.

Igniter wire is damaged – replace.

Pulse Igniter Battery is dead – replace AAA battery.

IF SPARK ELECTRODE PRODUCES SPARK BUT PILOT DOES NOT LIGHT, CHECK:

No gas to the heater – install a disposable cylinder or connect the hose and filter and turn on the valve at the remote cylinder.

“PILOT” position not properly aligned – turn gas control knob to “PILOT” position and depress.

Pilot is blocked from spider web or dirt – clean pilot.

IF PILOT FLAME DOES NOT STAY LIT WHEN KNOB IS RELEASED, CHECK:

The control knob in the “PILOT” position is not completely depressed or held in long enough to purge air from lines.

Pilot flame is not surrounding the thermocouple – clean pilot.

Pilot Assembly is defective – replace.

Tip switch wires are disconnected – connect.

IF MAIN BURNER DOES NOT IGNITE, CHECK:

The main burner orifice is blocked – clean burner.

IF HEATER KEEPS SHUTTING “OFF” DURING NORMAL OPERATION, CHECK:

Pilot is blocked – clean pilot.

Provide a minimum fresh air opening of 9 square inches (e.g., 3″ x 3″ opening).

Tip-over switch was activated from bumping the heater. Re-light.

Regulator is defective – Replace regulator.

Internal contamination – Replace control valve and regulator.

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS. Read all instructions and cautionary markings on the charger, battery pack, and product before use.

Shock hazard. Do not allow any liquid to get inside the charger.

Burn hazard. To reduce risk of injury, charge only DeWALT rechargeable battery packs.

Other types of batteries may overheat and burst.

Keep conductive foreign materials (grinding dust, metal chips, steel wool, etc.) away from charger cavities. Always unplug the charger when there is no battery pack in the cavity and before cleaning.

DO NOT attempt to charge the battery pack with any chargers other than the ones in this manual.

These chargers are not intended for any uses other than charging DeWALT rechargeable batteries.

Do not expose the charger to rain or snow.

Pull by the plug rather than the cord when disconnecting.

Do not use an extension cord unless it is absolutely necessary. An improper cord could result in fire or electric shock. If an extension cord is needed, it must have adequate wire size (AWG).

Do not place any object on top of the charger or on a soft surface that might block ventilation slots.

Do not operate the charger with a damaged cord or plug.

Do not operate the charger if it has received a sharp blow or been damaged.

Do not disassemble the charger; take it to an authorized service center if needed.

Do not charge or use the battery pack in explosive atmospheres (e.g., in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust).

NEVER force the battery pack into the charger. DO NOT modify the battery pack in any way to fit into a non-compatible charger.

Charge the battery packs only in designated DeWALT chargers.

DO NOT splash or immerse in water or other liquids.

Do not store or use the tool and battery pack in locations where the temperature may reach or exceed 104 °F (40 °C). For best life, store battery packs in a cool, dry location.

Fire hazard. Never attempt to open the battery pack for any reason. If the case is cracked or damaged, do not insert it into the charger.

Do not store or carry the battery pack so that metal objects can contact exposed battery terminals (e.g., in aprons, pockets, tool boxes with loose nails, screws, keys).

Specific Safety Instructions for Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion):

Do not incinerate the battery pack even if it is severely damaged or worn out. It can explode in a fire.

If battery contents contact the skin, wash immediately with mild soap and water.

If battery liquid gets into the eye, rinse the open eye with water for 15 minutes or until irritation ceases.

Contents of opened battery cells may cause respiratory irritation. Provide fresh air. If symptoms persist, seek medical attention.

Burn hazard. Battery liquid may be flammable if exposed to spark or flame.

1. Plug the charger into an appropriate outlet before inserting the battery pack.

2. Insert the battery pack into the charger, making sure it is fully seated. The red (charging) light will blink continuously, indicating the charging process has started.

3. The completion of the charge will be indicated by the red light remaining ON continuously. The battery pack is fully charged and can be used or left in the charger.

NOTE: To ensure maximum performance and life of lithium-ion battery packs, charge the battery pack fully before first use.

The charger will not charge a faulty battery pack and will indicate this by refusing to light. If this occurs, take the charger and battery pack to be tested at an authorized service center.

HOT/COLD PACK DELAY: When the charger detects a battery pack that is too hot or too cold, it automatically starts a Hot/Cold Pack Delay, suspending charging until the battery pack has reached an appropriate temperature. The charger then automatically switches to the pack charging mode. This feature ensures maximum battery pack life.

1. Longest life and best performance can be obtained if the battery pack is charged when the air temperature is between 65 °F and 75 °F (18° – 24 °C). DO NOT charge the battery pack in an air temperature below +40 °F (+4.5 °C), or above +104 °F (+40 °C).

2. The charger and battery pack may become warm to the touch while charging. This is a normal condition.

3. If the battery pack does not charge properly:

Check the operation of the receptacle by plugging in a lamp or other appliance.

Check to see if the receptacle is connected to a light switch that turns the power off.

Move the charger and battery pack to a location where the surrounding air temperature is approximately 65 °F – 75 °F (18° – 24 °C).

If charging problems persist, take the tool, battery pack, and charger to your local service center.

4. The battery pack should be recharged when it fails to produce sufficient power. DO NOT CONTINUE to use it under these conditions. You may also charge a partially used pack whenever you desire with no adverse effect.

5. Keep foreign materials (e.g., grinding dust, metal chips, steel wool) away from charger cavities. Always unplug the charger from the power supply when there is no battery pack in the cavity.

6. Do not freeze or immerse the charger in water or any other liquid.
