The CUISINART SG6SU Seasoning Mill consists of the following components:

Always follow these safety precautions when using your CUISINART SG6SU Seasoning Mill:

• Never pull the plug by the lead. Do not wrap the lead around the main body.

• Ensure only the supplied adapter is used. Do not short circuit the supply terminals.

• Plug the charger away from a sink or hot surface. Do not use an extension cord.

• Do not charge the unit using an outdoor socket.

• To protect against electrical shock, do not put the main unit in water or other liquids. Never submerge any portion of this unit other than the specified attachments.

• The appliance can be left plugged in when not in use. However, it should be switched off and unplugged before cleaning, refilling, or handling parts intended to move.

To assemble your CUISINART SG6SU Seasoning Mill, follow these steps:

1. Place the housing and all removable parts on a clean, flat surface. Ensure all parts are clean and thoroughly dry.

2. To attach a grinding container, hold the unit upright and attach the container from the bottom.

3. Line up the arrow on the grinding container with the arrow on the unit housing. The arrows should face each other to indicate proper alignment.

4. Gently push the grinding container and unit housing together until they fit comfortably.

5. Secure the grinding container by twisting it until the arrow on the unit housing aligns with the lock symbol on the grinding container. The two pieces will click together, indicating proper assembly.

6. To attach the second grinding container, flip the unit housing over and repeat the assembly steps.

7. Your CUISINART SG6SU Seasoning Mill is now assembled.

To use the measuring cap on either grinding container of your CUISINART SG6SU Seasoning Mill:

1. Grasp the measuring cap and connect it to a grinding container by aligning the grooves on the cap with the ridges on the container.

2. Press them together until the ridge of the measuring cap rests flat against the grinding container.

NOTE: When not in use, the measuring cap should remain on the uppermost grinding container. The unit will not fit into the charging base if the measuring cap is on the lower container.

To assemble the charging base for your CUISINART SG6SU Seasoning Mill:

1. Place the housing, charging base, and all removable parts on a clean, flat surface. Ensure all parts have been cleaned and dried thoroughly.

2. Place the removable grind tray into the charging base. It is designed to fit securely in only one way.

3. Connect the power adapter to the charging base. Grasp the pin on the power adapter and insert it vertically into the back of the charging base until it is secure. NOTE: Do not insert the power adapter into the base while it is plugged into a power source.

Follow these instructions to charge your CUISINART SG6SU Seasoning Mill:

1. Ensure the unit is fully assembled.

2. Grasp the assembled unit securely and make sure it is facing upright (the Cuisinart logo is horizontal and easy to read).

3. Place the fully assembled Seasoning Mill in the charging base so that the recessed area on the back of the unit housing fits comfortably with the protrusion on the charging base.

4. Plug the charging base into a power socket. The unit will begin charging.

NOTE: The unit is properly charging if the red LED on the charging base illuminates. When the unit is fully charged, the LED indicator will change to blue. Before the first use, the batteries must be charged for 12 hours.

To adjust the grind from fine to coarse on your CUISINART SG6SU Seasoning Mill, use the adjustment dial located on the underside of the mill. Follow the directional arrows on the mill: turn the dial clockwise for a finer grind and anticlockwise for a coarser grind.

1. Assemble the CUISINART SG6SU Seasoning Mill as detailed in the assembly section.

2. Ensure the unit is fully charged.

3. Hold the unit with the end you wish to grind from facing downwards.

4. Press the On/Off button in the centre of the unit housing to begin grinding. NOTE: Only the container facing downwards will produce ground results. Although the upward-facing container will also rotate, no grinding will occur from that end.

5. To grind from the other end of the unit, simply flip the unit over and press the button again.

Your CUISINART SG6SU Seasoning Mill is equipped with NiMH batteries. Before first use, charge the batteries for 12 hours. Avoid wetting the battery contacts.

Recharging: If the batteries run down completely, it will take between 8 and 12 hours to fully recharge them. A full charge provides up to 20 minutes of running time. Most grinding tasks take around 5 seconds.

Continuous Charging: The unit is designed to remain on continuous charge. It is recommended to keep the charger plugged into a wall socket so the mill is always ready to use. This uses a minimal amount of electricity. Only use the charger provided with the appliance.

Holding the Charge: The batteries hold most of their charge even when not plugged in, losing only about 30% of their total charge per month.

If, after repeated use, the run time of your CUISINART SG6SU Seasoning Mill seems to get shorter and it has less power, you can perform a procedure to improve battery capacity. Remove the plug from the wall outlet and continue to use the mill until it is fully discharged and stops operating. Then, plug the base back into the wall outlet and recharge the unit for 12 hours or overnight for a full new charge. This procedure should be repeated once every 2-3 months to ensure optimum performance.

Before cleaning, ensure the CUISINART SG6SU Seasoning Mill is switched off and unplugged.

• Clean the mill and base by wiping all parts with a damp cloth and drying them thoroughly. Do not expose the appliance to moisture.

• Do not use detergents to clean it.

• To clean the grinding chambers, unlock the container, remove it, and wash it with warm soapy water. Dry thoroughly before replacing.

• Never use moist or wet spices in the mill, as this can clog the grinding mechanism. Use only store-bought dried spices.

• N.B. Never immerse the full appliance in water, any other liquid, or place it in a dishwasher.

If a peppercorn becomes stuck in the grinding wheel of your CUISINART SG6SU Seasoning Mill, you can try one of the following methods:

✓ Turn the mill upside down and shake it gently while pressing the On/Off power button.

✓ Turn the mill upside down, position the grind selector to coarse, then hold it over a plate and grind until the peppercorn is dislodged.

In some instances, grinds can become lodged between the metal spindle in the grind containers and the main power unit, which will prevent the motor from starting. If your CUISINART SG6SU Seasoning Mill does not function when the ON/OFF button is pressed, follow these steps to dislodge the loose grinds:

1. Remove each of the removable grind containers in turn.

2. Shake the main power unit to release any loose grinds that may be lodged inside. There is no need to empty the containers.

3. Replace the grind containers and use the mill as normal.
