The following symbols and conventions are used throughout the User’s Guide for your BROTHER DCP-L2627DWXL:

Before attempting any printing operation with your BROTHER DCP-L2627DWXL, confirm the following:

• Make sure you have installed the correct software and drivers for your machine.

• For USB or network cable users: Make sure the interface cable is physically secure.

If your computer is protected by a firewall and you are unable to network print or scan, you may need to configure the firewall settings. If you are using the Windows Firewall and you installed the drivers using the steps in the installer, the necessary firewall settings have already been set. If you are using any other personal firewall software, see the User’s Guide for your software or contact the software manufacturer.

The control panel of your BROTHER DCP-L2627DWXL includes several buttons and a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). Here is an overview of their functions:

1. Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)

Displays messages to help you set up and use the machine. In Ready or Copy Mode, it shows settings like Type of copy, Number of copies, Quality, Contrast, and Copy ratio.

2. Menu Buttons

• Menu: Press to access the menu for programming your machine’s settings.

• Clear: Press to delete entered data or to cancel the current setting.

• OK: Press to store your machine’s settings.

• ▲ or ▼ (Up or Down arrows): Press to scroll up or down through menus and options.

3. Function Buttons

• Copy/Scan Options: Press to access temporary settings for scanning or copying.

• Wi-Fi (for wireless models): Press and hold this button and launch the wireless installer on your computer to set up a wireless connection. When the Wi-Fi light is on, the machine is connected to a wireless access point. When it blinks, the connection is down or in the process of connecting.

• Scan: Press to switch the machine to Scan Mode.

• 2 in 1 (ID) Copy: Press to copy both sides of an identification card onto a single page.

• 2-sided (for certain models only): Press to copy on both sides of a sheet of paper.

4. Stop/Exit

• Press to stop an operation.

• Press to exit from a menu.

5. Start

• Press to start copying.

• Press to start scanning documents.

6. Power On/Off (circle with a vertical line)

• Turn the machine on by pressing.

• Turn the machine off by pressing and holding. The LCD displays [Shutting Down] and stays on for a few seconds before turning off.

When text entry is required on your BROTHER DCP-L2627DWXL, you can enter characters using the control panel buttons.

• Hold down or repeatedly press ▲ or ▼ to select a character from the list: 0123456789abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ(space)!”#$%&'()*+,-./:;<=>?@[\\]^_‘{|}~

• Press OK when the character or symbol you want is displayed, and then enter the next character.

• Press Clear to delete characters entered incorrectly.

Brother Utilities is an application launcher that provides convenient access to all Brother applications installed on your computer. To access it, follow these steps:

1. Do one of the following:

• (Windows 11) Click Start > All apps > Brother > Brother Utilities.

• (Windows 10) Click Start > Brother > Brother Utilities.

2. Select your BROTHER DCP-L2627DWXL from the machine list.

3. Choose the option you want to use from the utility menu.

To uninstall the software and drivers for your BROTHER DCP-L2627DWXL from a Windows computer, use the Brother Utilities application:

1. Do one of the following:

• (Windows 11) Click Start > All apps > Brother > Brother Utilities.

• (Windows 10) Click Start > Brother > Brother Utilities.

2. Select your model from the drop-down list (if it is not already selected).

3. Click Tools in the left navigation bar.

4. Click Uninstall in the Tools section of Brother Utilities.

5. Follow the instructions in the dialog box to uninstall the software and drivers.

To load paper into the paper tray of your BROTHER DCP-L2627DWXL, follow these steps:

1. Pull the paper tray completely out of the machine.

2. Press and slide the paper guides to fit the paper size you are using. Press the green release levers to slide the paper guides.

3. Fan the stack of paper well.

4. Load paper in the paper tray with the printing surface face down.

5. Make sure the paper is below the maximum paper mark (▼▼▼). Overfilling the paper tray will cause paper jams.

6. Slowly push the paper tray completely into the machine.

7. Lift the support flap to prevent paper from sliding off the output tray.

When using the manual feed slot, you must change the Paper Size setting in the machine or on your computer at the same time.

1. Lift the support flap to prevent paper from sliding off the face-down output tray.

2. Open the manual feed slot cover.

3. Use both hands to slide the manual feed slot paper guides to fit the width of the paper you are using.

4. Using both hands, place one sheet of paper in the manual feed slot with the printing surface facing up, until the front edge touches the paper feed roller. When you feel the machine pull it in, let go.

5. Send your print job to the machine. Ensure you have selected the correct print preferences in the Print screen.

6. After the printed page comes out, load the next sheet of paper in the manual feed slot. Repeat for each page you want to print.

Follow these steps to print on thick paper or labels:

1. Open the machine’s back cover (the face-up output tray). The machine will automatically turn on Manual Feed mode.

2. On the front of the machine, open the manual feed slot cover.

3. Use both hands to slide the manual feed slot paper guides to fit the width of the paper.

4. Using both hands, place one sheet of paper or a label sheet in the manual feed slot with the printing surface facing up, until the front edge touches the paper feed roller. Let go when you feel the machine pull it in.

• Do not put more than one sheet in the manual feed slot at a time.

• Make sure the paper is straight and correctly positioned.

5. Send your print job to the machine, making sure to change your print preferences in the Print screen.

6. After the printed page comes out from the back of the machine, load the next sheet.

7. When finished, close the back cover until it locks in the closed position.

When you change the size and type of paper you load in the tray, you must also change the settings on the LCD.

1. Press Menu.

2. Press ▲ or ▼ to display the [General Setup] option, and then press OK.

3. Press ▲ or ▼ to display the [Tray Setting] option, and then press OK.

4. Press ▲ or ▼ to display the [Paper Type] option, and then press OK.

5. Press ▲ or ▼ to display the [Thin Paper], [Plain Paper], [Thick Paper], or [Recycled Paper] option, and then press OK.

6. Press ▲ or ▼ to display the [Paper Size] option, and then press OK.

7. Press ▲ or ▼ to display the option you want, and then press OK.

8. Press Stop/Exit.

The maximum unscannable and unprintable areas from the edges of the paper for your BROTHER DCP-L2627DWXL are as follows. Do not attempt to scan, copy, or print in these areas.

Note: The “Copy” measurements are for a 1 in 1 copy at 100% document size.

Some types of paper may not perform well or may cause damage to your BROTHER DCP-L2627DWXL. Always test paper samples before purchasing them to ensure desirable performance.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT use the following types of paper:

• paper that is highly textured

• paper that is extremely smooth or shiny

• paper that is curled or warped

• paper that is coated or has a chemical finish

• paper that is damaged, creased, or folded

• paper that exceeds the recommended weight specification in the guide

• paper with tabs and staples

• paper that is multipart or carbonless

• paper that is designed for inkjet printing

Using any of these types of paper may damage your machine, and this damage is not covered under any Brother warranty or service agreement.

To print a document from a Windows application:

1. Load the correct size paper in the paper tray.

2. From your application, select the print command.

3. Select your BROTHER DCP-L2627DWXL model name, and then click the printer’s properties or preferences button. The printer driver window will appear.

4. In the Basic tab, configure the following settings:

• Paper Size: Select the paper size you are using.

• Orientation: Select Portrait or Landscape.

• Copies: Type the number of copies you want (1-999).

• Media Type: Select the type of paper you are using.

• 2-sided / Booklet: Select if you want to print on one or both sides of the paper.

5. Change any other printer settings if needed.

6. Click OK.

7. Complete your print operation in the application.

To change print settings for all Windows applications, you must configure the printer driver properties. This differs from changing settings within a single application, which only applies to documents printed from that application.

1. Hold down the Windows key and press the ‘R’ key on your computer’s keyboard to launch the Run dialog box.

2. Type “control printers” in the Open: field and click OK.

3. Right-click your BROTHER DCP-L2627DWXL model’s icon, and then select Printer properties. (If printer driver options appear, select your printer driver.)

4. Click the General tab, and then click the Printing Preferences… or Preferences… button.

5. The printer driver dialog box appears. Select the print settings you want to use as defaults for all your Windows programs.

6. Click OK.

7. Close the printer properties dialog box.

To cancel a print job that is in progress, press the Stop/Exit button on the control panel of your BROTHER DCP-L2627DWXL. To cancel multiple print jobs, press and hold Stop/Exit for four seconds.

To scan photos or graphics directly to your computer using the machine’s control panel:

1. Load your document on the scanner glass or in the ADF.

2. Press (Scan).

3. Press ▲ or ▼ to select the [to PC] option, and then press OK.

4. Press ▲ or ▼ to select the [Image] option, and then press OK.

5. If the machine is connected over a network, press ▲ or ▼ to select the destination computer.

6. Press OK.

7. To change scan settings for this document (such as Colour Setting, Resolution, or File Type), press Options or Copy/Scan Options, select the option you want to change, and press OK. To use default settings, skip this step.

8. Press Start. The machine will begin scanning.

Note: To change scan settings, a computer with Brother iPrint&Scan installed must be connected to the machine.

If there is a paper jam in the paper tray, follow these steps:

1. Pull the paper tray completely out of the machine.

2. Slowly pull out the jammed paper. Pulling the paper downwards with both hands can make it easier to remove.

3. Fan the stack of paper to prevent further jams, slide the paper guides to fit the paper size, and reload the paper into the tray.

4. Ensure the paper stack is below the maximum paper mark (▼▼▼).

5. Put the paper tray firmly back into the machine.

If paper is jammed in the output paper tray, follow these steps:

1. Use both hands to open the scanner.

2. Remove the jammed paper.

3. Push the scanner down with both hands to close it.

WARNING: The machine’s internal parts will be extremely hot. Wait for the machine to cool down before touching them.

1. Leave the machine turned on for 10 minutes for the internal fan to cool the hot parts inside.

2. Open the back cover.

3. Pull the blue tabs at the left and right sides towards you to release the fuser cover.

4. Use both hands to gently pull the jammed paper out of the machine.

5. Close the fuser cover.

6. Close the back cover until it locks in the closed position.

WARNING: The machine’s internal parts will be extremely hot. Wait for the machine to cool down before touching them.

1. Leave the machine turned on for 10 minutes for the internal fan to cool the extremely hot parts inside.

2. Open the front cover.

3. Remove the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly from the machine.

4. Pull out the jammed paper slowly.

5. Install the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly back into the machine.

6. Close the front cover.

If you experience print quality problems, check the following examples and recommendations:

Follow these steps to replace the toner cartridge:

1. Make sure the machine is turned on.

2. Open the front cover.

3. Remove the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly from the machine.

4. Push down the green lock lever and take the old toner cartridge out of the drum unit.

5. Unpack the new toner cartridge and remove its protective cover.

6. Hold the new toner cartridge by the handle and shake it from left to right several times to distribute the toner evenly.

7. Push the new toner cartridge firmly into the drum unit until it locks into place.

8. Clean the corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the green tab from left to right and back again several times.

9. Ensure the green tab is returned to the Home position (▲).

10. Reinsert the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly back into the machine.

11. Close the front cover of the machine. Do not turn the machine off until the display returns to Ready Mode.

To replace the drum unit:

1. Make sure the machine is turned on and open the front cover.

2. Remove the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly from the machine.

3. Push down the green lock lever and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit.

4. Unpack the new drum unit.

5. Push the toner cartridge firmly into the new drum unit until it locks into place.

6. Reinsert the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly back into the machine.

7. Close the front cover of the machine.

8. After installing the new drum unit, you must reset the drum counter.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT reset the drum counter unless you are replacing the drum unit.

When you replace the drum unit with a new one, you must reset the drum counter by completing these steps:

1. Make sure the machine is turned on.

2. Make sure the machine’s cover is closed.

3. Press OK and ▲ at the same time.

4. Press OK to select [Drum].

5. Press ▲ to reset the drum counter.

1. Press and hold the power button to turn the machine off.

2. Lift the document cover (1). Clean the white plastic surface (2) and scanner glass (3) underneath it with a soft lint-free cloth moistened with water.

3. In the ADF unit, clean the white bar (1) and the scanner glass strip (2) underneath it with a soft lint-free cloth moistened with water.

4. Close the document cover.

5. Press the power button to turn the machine on.

The following reset functions are available for your BROTHER DCP-L2627DWXL. Note that subdivided reset functions are not available for some models.

1. Machine Reset

This function resets settings like Language.

2. Network Settings Reset (For Network Models)

Resets the print server to its default factory settings (including all IP Address information except the administrator password). Unplug the interface cable before choosing this option.

3. All Settings Reset

You can reset all the machine’s settings back to the settings that were set at the factory. This takes less time than a Factory Reset.

4. Factory Reset

Resets all of the machine’s settings to the settings originally set at the factory. It is strongly recommended to perform this operation when you dispose of the machine.

To perform a reset:

1. Press Menu.

2. Press ▲ or ▼ to display the [Initial Setup] option, and then press OK.

3. Press ▲ or ▼ to display the [Reset] option, and then press OK.

4. Press ▲ or ▼ to choose the type of reset you want to perform, and then press OK.
