How do I operate the controls on my BROAN PM400SSV range hood?

Your BROAN PM400SSV range hood has the following controls:

Master ON/OFF: Press this key to turn on the light and the fan at the last saved intensity. When either the light or fan is on, pressing this key will memorize the current settings before shutting them off.

Fan: When the fan is OFF, a press turns it ON to the last saved speed (or LOW if no speed was saved). Press the key again to cycle through speeds (LOW, to MEDIUM, to HIGH speed to OFF). A long press when the fan is ON will turn the fan OFF and save the current speed to memory.

Lights: Press this key to turn ON the lights to the last saved intensity (or LOW if no intensity was saved). Press again to set the lights to HIGH intensity. A third press turns the lights OFF. A long press when the lights are ON will turn them OFF and save the current intensity to memory.

Delay OFF: When the fan is ON, press this key to activate the delay function. The fan will continue to operate for 10 minutes and then shut off automatically. To cancel, press the delay OFF key again or the Master ON/OFF key.

Note: Each time a key is pressed, a beep will sound. To disable the beep, ensure the fan and lights are OFF, then press and hold the Lights key for 5 seconds. Repeat the process to enable the beep again.

What is the Filter Cleaning Reminder on my BROAN PM400SSV and how do I reset it?

When you turn the fan OFF on your BROAN PM400SSV, if the fan key backlight flashes slowly for 30 seconds, it is time to clean the hood and filter. This reminder will occur every time the fan is turned off until the timer is reset.

To reset the timer after cleaning, at any time during the 30-second flashing signal (while the fan is OFF), perform a long press of the fan key. This will reset the timer and stop the key from flashing.

What is the HEAT SENTRY™ feature on my BROAN PM400SSV?

Your BROAN PM400SSV is equipped with a HEAT SENTRY™ thermostat. This device will automatically turn on or speed up the blower if it senses excessive heat above the cooking surface.

1. If the blower is OFF, it turns the blower ON to HIGH speed.

2. If the blower is ON at a lower speed setting, it turns the blower up to HIGH speed.

When the temperature level drops to normal, the blower will return to its original setting. When Heat Sentry is activated, the fan key backlight flashes slowly and the fan speed cannot be changed.

WARNING: The HEAT SENTRY thermostat can start the blower even if the hood is turned OFF. When this occurs, it is impossible to turn the blower OFF with its key. If you must stop the blower, set the main power switch (located behind the filter, on the inner side of the unit faceplate) to the OFF position, if it is possible to do so safely.

How do I activate the Code Ready Technology™ (CRT) on my BROAN PM400SSV?

The Code Ready Technology (CRT) option allows you to change the blower output from the factory setting of 400 CFM to a maximum of 300 CFM to meet certain building code requirements for Make-Up Air (MUA).

IMPORTANT NOTES:

• This change CANNOT be reverted.

• CRT can only be set within the first 5 minutes of applying power to the unit.

• A power outage will not deactivate the CRT.

• The fan and lights must be OFF before starting.

Procedure to set maximum airflow to 300 CFM:

1. Switch power ON using the main power switch (located behind the filter) and immediately press simultaneously on the Fan and Lights keys for 5 seconds. The backlights for both keys will flash to indicate you have entered the CRT menu.

2. To select the 300 CFM maximum airflow, press the Lights key for 5 seconds, then release. The Lights key backlight will flash to indicate 300 CFM has been selected (the Fan key backlight will turn off).

3. To confirm the selection, press the Lights key again for 5 seconds and release. The Lights key backlight will flash quickly twice, and the buzzer will sound a double beep. The user interface will then return to normal operation.

How should I clean and maintain my BROAN PM400SSV?

Always switch off the electricity supply before performing any maintenance.

Grease Filter:

• The grease filter should be cleaned frequently using a warm dishwashing detergent solution. It is dishwasher safe.

• Clean the filter in the dishwasher using a non-phosphate detergent. Discoloration may occur but will not affect performance. To minimize discoloration, hand wash the filter using a mild detergent.

Non-Ducted Recirculation Filter (if applicable):

• This filter should be changed every 3 to 6 months. Replace it more often if your cooking style generates extra grease.

Stainless Steel Cleaning:

Do: Regularly wash with a clean cloth soaked with warm water and mild soap. Always clean in the direction of the original polish lines. Always rinse well with clear water and wipe dry completely. You may also use a specialized household stainless steel cleaner.

Don’t: Use steel wool or scrapers to remove stubborn dirt. Do not use harsh or abrasive cleansers. Do not allow dirt or construction residue (like plaster dust) to accumulate on the unit.

Avoid when choosing a detergent: Do not use any cleaners that contain bleach. Avoid products containing chloride, fluoride, iodide, or bromide, as they will deteriorate surfaces. Never use combustible cleaning products like acetone, alcohol, ether, or benzol near a range.

What should I do to reduce the risk of a range top grease fire with my BROAN PM400SSV?

A. Never leave surface units unattended at high settings. Boilovers cause smoking and greasy spillovers that may ignite. Heat oils slowly on low or medium settings.

B. Always turn the hood ON when cooking at high heat or when flambeing food.

C. Clean ventilating fans frequently. Grease should not be allowed to accumulate on the fan or filter.

D. Use proper pan size. Always use cookware appropriate for the size of the surface element.

What should I do in the event of a range top grease fire?

1. SMOTHER FLAMES with a close-fitting lid, cookie sheet, or metal tray, then turn off the burner. BE CAREFUL TO PREVENT BURNS. If the flames do not go out immediately, EVACUATE AND CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.

2. NEVER PICK UP A FLAMING PAN – You may be burned.

3. DO NOT USE WATER, including wet dishcloths or towels – a violent steam explosion will result.

4. Use an extinguisher ONLY if:

A. You know you have a Class ABC extinguisher and you already know how to operate it.

B. The fire is small and contained in the area where it started.

C. The fire department is being called.

D. You can fight the fire with your back to an exit.
