To ensure safe operation of your BROAN NUTONE NCDJ1, please follow these precautions:

Operational Cautions:

• Do not use a damaged or unrecognized power cord.

• Do not modify the power cord length or share the outlet with other appliances.

• Do not operate the unit with wet hands or in a damp environment.

• Do not insert fingers or other objects into the air inlet or outlet.

• Do not direct airflow at people, animals, or plants for extended periods.

• This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction.

• Do not attempt to repair the unit yourself. Contact an authorized service technician.

• Turn off the power and unplug the unit before cleaning.

• If strange sounds, smells, or smoke come from the unit, turn it off, unplug it, and contact a service technician immediately.

• Do not use the unit for special purposes such as preserving food, breeding animals, or other uses not intended.

Electrical Warnings:

• Only use the specified power cord.

• Ensure the power plug is clean. Remove any dust or grime.

• Do not pull on the power cord to unplug the unit.

• Do not use an extension cord.

• If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.

The BROAN NUTONE NCDJ1 has three main operating modes:

COOL mode:

In COOL mode, the unit cools your room. The fan speed and temperature can be adjusted to your desired comfort level.

DRY mode (Dehumidifying):

In DRY mode, the BROAN NUTONE NCDJ1 will reduce the humidity in your room. The fan speed cannot be adjusted in this mode as it is controlled automatically.

FAN ONLY mode:

In FAN ONLY mode, the unit will only circulate the air in your room without cooling. The fan speed can be adjusted. Note that you cannot set a temperature in FAN ONLY mode.

For optimal performance, operate your BROAN NUTONE NCDJ1 within the following temperature ranges. If the unit is used outside these ranges, certain safety features may activate and cause it to turn off.

NOTE: Room relative humidity of less than 80%. If the air conditioner operates in excess of this figure, the surface of the air conditioner may attract condensation. Please set the vertical air flow louver to its maximum angle (vertically to the floor), and set HIGH fan mode.

To get the best performance from your BROAN NUTONE NCDJ1, follow these tips:

• Keep doors and windows closed while the unit is operating.

• Do not place objects near the air inlet or outlet of the unit, as this can reduce efficiency and cause it to stop running.

• Clean the air filter every two weeks. A dirty filter can reduce airflow and lower performance.

• Adjust the louvers for proper air direction.

• To cool your room quickly, select a high fan speed and the lowest temperature setting.

If your remote control is unavailable, you can operate the BROAN NUTONE NCDJ1 manually using the MANUAL CONTROL button located on the indoor unit. The operation will cycle through modes as follows:

1. FORCED COOL: In this mode, the unit will run in cool mode for 30 minutes with a high fan speed and a set temperature of 75°F (24°C). After 30 minutes, it will switch to AUTO mode.

2. OFF: Pressing the button again will turn the unit off.

Note: The manual button is intended for testing purposes and emergency operation only. It is not recommended for normal operation.

A clogged air filter can reduce the cooling efficiency of your BROAN NUTONE NCDJ1. Clean the filter once every two weeks by following these steps:

1. Open the front panel of the indoor unit.

2. Gently push the filter tab up to release the filter, then pull it downwards.

3. Remove the air filter.

4. Clean the filter with a vacuum cleaner. If the filter is very dirty, you can wash it in warm water with a mild detergent.

5. Rinse the filter with clean water and let it air dry completely in a cool place away from direct sunlight.

6. Reinstall the filter.

7. Close the front panel of the indoor unit.

CAUTION:

• Turn off the unit and disconnect the power before cleaning.

• Do not touch the fins of the unit.

• Do not use a brush, hard objects, or water hotter than 122°F (50°C) to clean the filter.

Proper seasonal maintenance will ensure your BROAN NUTONE NCDJ1 operates efficiently.

At the beginning of the season:

• Check that the air inlets and outlets on both the indoor and outdoor units are not blocked.

• Check for any refrigerant leaks.

• Check that the air filter is clean.

• Check that the drain hose is not damaged.

• Make sure the ground wire is connected properly.

• Replace the batteries in the remote control.

• Plug in the unit and turn on the power.

At the end of the season:

• Run the unit in FAN ONLY mode for 3-4 hours to dry out the inside of the unit.

• Turn off the unit and disconnect the power.

• Clean the air filter.

• Remove the batteries from the remote control.

If your BROAN NUTONE NCDJ1 does not start, check the following potential causes before calling for service:

• Is the unit plugged in? Check the power cord connection.

• Has a fuse blown or has the circuit breaker tripped?

• Is there a power failure?

• Are the batteries in the remote control fresh?

• Is the timer set correctly?

If your BROAN NUTONE NCDJ1 is running but not cooling effectively, consider these possible reasons:

• Is the air filter dirty? A dirty filter restricts airflow.

• Are the air inlet or outlet of either the indoor or outdoor unit blocked?

• Is the temperature set correctly? Try a lower temperature setting.

• Are there open doors or windows in the room?

• Is there direct sunlight entering the room? Close curtains or blinds during peak sun.

• Are there too many people in the room?

• Are there other heat sources (like computers or ovens) operating in the room?

The following are not malfunctions and are part of the normal operation of your BROAN NUTONE NCDJ1:

• Water leaking from indoor unit: This can happen during high humidity conditions if condensation builds up. Ensure the drain hose is not clogged or kinked.

• Water leaking from outdoor unit: This is normal during COOL mode as condensation from the refrigerant pipes drips off.

• Strange odors: The unit may circulate existing smells from furniture, paint, or smoke in the room. This is not a fault of the unit.

• Mist from air outlet: In high humidity, rapid cooling can cause the air to condense into a mist. This is normal.

• Hissing sound: A low hissing sound during operation or when the unit stops is the sound of refrigerant flowing.

• Squeaking sound: This can be caused by the expansion and contraction of plastic parts due to temperature changes.

• Clicking sound: The relays inside the unit make a clicking sound when the compressor turns on or off.

• Gurgling sound: A low gurgling sound may be heard, which is refrigerant flowing inside the unit.

• Outdoor unit fan doesn’t run: The fan speed is controlled based on temperature. It may not run if the temperature is stable.

The display on the indoor unit of your BROAN NUTONE NCDJ1 will show error codes to help diagnose issues. Please turn off the unit and unplug it before checking. Contact a qualified technician for assistance.
