What is the intended use of this appliance?

This appliance is designed for domestic and not industrial use.

Are there different models covered by these instructions?

Yes, these operating instructions refer to several models:

– Basic model (Fig. 6a) with On/Off switch only.

– Model (Fig. 6b) has an additional switch for cup selection.

– Model (Fig. 6c) automatically switches off after 2 hours. It can also be switched off manually like the other models.


What are the basic safety precautions when using the coffee maker?

Connect and operate the appliance only in accordance with the specification on the rating plate.

If the power cord or appliance is damaged, do NOT use.

Keep children away from the appliance to prevent them from playing with the appliance.

After using the appliance and if the appliance malfunctions, pull out the plug.

NEVER immerse the appliance in water!


Are there any restrictions on who can operate the appliance?

Do not allow persons (also children) with restricted physical sensory perception or mental abilities or with lack of experience and knowledge to operate the appliance unless they are supervised or have been instructed in the use of the appliance by somebody who is responsible for their safety.

What should be done if the appliance malfunctions or needs repair?

If the appliance malfunctions, pull out the plug. To protect the user, all repairs to the appliance, e.g. replacement of the power cord, may be carried out only by our customer service.

How should I prepare the appliance before using it for the first time?

To clean the appliance, run 9 cups of water twice through the appliance.

Occasionally, new appliances emit a completely harmless odour. In this case run a diluted vinegar solution through the appliance (2 cups of vinegar to 6 cups of water), then run 9 cups of water twice through the appliance.


How do I brew coffee or tea?

1. Fill the tank with water only (Fig. 2). Never add milk or ready drinks such as tea or coffee.

2. Place a paper filter (1×4) in the filter holder (Fig. 3).

3. Add medium ground coffee (approx. 7g per large cup) or tea leaves (Fig. 4).

4. Place the jug onto the warming plate (Fig. 5).

5. Switch the appliance on (Fig. 6). For models with cup selection, choose the appropriate setting (3-6 or 7-10 cups).

6. Wait for the brewing process to complete.

7. Switch off the appliance after use (unless it has an automatic switch-off feature).

Allow the coffee maker to cool down for 5 min. before refilling with water for the next brew.

The same process can be used to brew tea.


What type and amount of coffee should I use?

Use medium ground coffee. We recommend approx. 7 g per large cup. Add slightly more coffee per cup for a few cups than for a larger number of cups.

What is the minimum amount of coffee I should brew?

Brew at least three large cups, otherwise the coffee will not have the required temperature and strength.

What are the approximate cup sizes indicated on the appliance?

The large cup marking (represented by a larger cup icon) corresponds to approx. 125 ml. The small cup marking (represented by a smaller cup icon) corresponds to approx. 85 ml.

How long does the cup heater stay warm?

The cup heater remains hot for a short period after the appliance has been switched off.

How does the cup selection switch work (if applicable)?

For models equipped with a cup selection switch (Fig. 6b, 6c), the strength and therefore the aroma can be selected by switching to the 3-6 setting (for 3-6 cups) or the 7-10 setting (for 7-10 cups).

How should I clean the coffee maker?

All parts which come into contact with coffee should be cleaned after use, as residue will affect the taste.

All detachable parts are dishwasher-proof. However, do NOT place them over the dishwasher heater or jam them in the dishwasher (deformation may occur).

Wipe the housing exterior with a damp cloth only.

Do NOT use any scouring agents.

Do NOT use a steam cleaner.

NEVER immerse the appliance in water!

Thoroughly rinse all detachable parts after cleaning or descaling.


When should I descale the appliance?

Descale the appliance regularly, especially if:

– the brewing cycle takes longer than usual,

– excessive steam is produced,

– the appliance is noisier than usual.


How often is descaling recommended?

If the water hardness is normal and the appliance is used daily, descale every 6 weeks.

If the descaling agents which you use are based on vinegar or citric acid, descale every 3 weeks.


How do I descale the coffee maker?

1. Measure descaling agent according to manufacturer’s specifications and pour into the tank.

2. Leave the solution to stand for 5 min., then switch on.

3. Switch off after 1 min. and leave to stand for 10 min.

4. Repeat step 3 at least 3 times (or more frequently depending on calcification).

5. Allow the residual solution to run through the appliance completely.

6. Flush the appliance twice with 9 cups of clean water.

7. If your model features cup selection, set the switch to 3–6 cups during the descaling process (steps 2-5).

8. Thoroughly rinse all detachable parts after descaling.


How should I dispose of the appliance?

This appliance has been identified in accordance with the European directive 2002/96/EG on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment – WEEE. The Directive paves the way for effective EU-wide withdrawal and utilisation of waste appliances. Please ask your dealer or inquire at your local authority about current means of disposal.

What are the guarantee conditions?

The guarantee conditions for this appliance are as defined by our representative in the country in which it is sold. Details regarding these conditions can be obtained from the dealer from whom the appliance was purchased. The bill of sale or receipt must be produced when making any claim under the terms of this guarantee. Subject to changes.
