Intended Use:

Only use this appliance for:

• for cleaning household dishware.

• in closed rooms in the home and with similar applications, e.g.: in canteens in stores, offices and other work environments; in agricultural businesses; use by customers in hotels, motels and other typical home environments; in bed and breakfasts.

• Up to an altitude of 13,100 ft (4000 m) above sea level.

Restrictive Use:

This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.

This appliance must be grounded to a metal, permanent wiring system or an equipment grounding conductor must be run with the circuit conductors and connected to the equipment grounding terminal or lead on the dishwasher. Improper connection of the equipment grounding conductor can result in risk of electric shock. This appliance must be grounded. In the event of a malfunction or breakdown, grounding will reduce the risk of electric shock by providing a path of least resistance for electric current. This appliance is equipped with a cord having an equipment-grounding conductor. Check with a qualified electrician or authorized service representative if you are in doubt whether the appliance is properly grounded.

To ensure safe use of your BOSCH SHS3ADF5N dishwasher, please observe the following:

• Read all instructions before using the dishwasher.

• Use this dishwasher only for its intended function, which is the washing of household dishware and kitchenware rated as dishwasher safe.

• Only use detergents or rinsing agents recommended for use in a dishwasher, and keep them out of the reach of children.

• Do not abuse, sit or stand on the door or dish racks of the dishwasher.

• To avoid risk of injury when loading items, locate sharp items so they are not likely to damage the door seal and load knives and other sharp utensils with their handles up.

• Do not wash plastic items unless they are marked “dishwasher safe” or the equivalent.

• Do not operate your dishwasher unless all enclosure panels are in place.

• Do not tamper with or override controls and interlocks.

• Do not use harsh chemicals such as bleach-based products to clean your dishwasher.

• Always use caution when opening the door during or following a wash cycle as hot water or steam may escape. Do not fully open the door until water noises have stopped and steam has subsided.

• To avoid floor damage and possible mold growth, do not allow wet areas to remain around or under the dishwasher.

To prevent material damage, follow these guidelines:

• Do not use harsh chemicals such as chlorine or bleach-based cleaning agents.

• Do not use a steam cleaner.

• To avoid scratching the finish, do not use sponges with a rough surface or abrasive cleaning agents.

• Do not use stainless steel polish on an anti-fingerprint finish or a black stainless finish.

• To prevent damage to cabinetry from escaping water vapor, let the appliance cool down a bit before opening the door after a program ends.

• Protect the appliance against freezing to avoid possible damage to the fill valve.

• Do not load the dishwasher with paper products, plastic bags, packing materials or anything other than normal, dishwasher safe dishware and kitchenware.

To use less power and water with your appliance, use the Normal program. The Normal program is energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.

The main components of the BOSCH SHS3ADF5N dishwasher are:

Additionally, pressing Button A (the first cycle button on the left) for approximately 3 seconds opens the basic settings.

The following cycles are available on your BOSCH SHS3ADF5N dishwasher. Running time and consumption values may vary based on water temperature, quantity of dishware, level of soiling, and selected options.

To save a combination of a cycle and an option as a favorite, follow these steps:

1. Open the appliance door.

2. Press ON/OFF.

3. Press the cycle button repeatedly until the suitable cycle has been selected.

4. Press the button for the relevant options.

5. Press the Favorite button for 3 seconds.

The selected cycle and option will flash, the Favorite button flashes, and the program combination is saved.

To wash large items in the racks, you can adjust the shelf height of the upper rack:

1. Pull out the upper rack.

2. Remove the rack.

3. Attach the rack to the upper rollers (level 3) or lower rollers (level 1).

4. Check that the rack is level on both sides.

5. Slide the rack in.

For the Silverware Basket, arrange the silverware ensuring that the items are not nestled together and with the sharp points down.

For the Silverware Drawer, arrange silverware with the points and sharp edges down.

WARNING: The sharp points and edges of knives and other sharp utensils can cause serious injury. Load knives and other sharp utensils with edges down. Do not allow children to handle or play near knives and sharp utensils.

The maximum item diameters for each rack vary depending on the appliance configuration and height setting.

Before the first use, or after a factory reset, you will need to configure the settings. Ensure the appliance is installed and connected.

1. Add rinse aid.

2. Switch on the appliance.

3. Set the amount of rinse aid.

4. Add detergent.

5. Start the Program with the highest cleaning temperature without dishware to remove any marks from water or other residues.

Adding Rinse Aid:

1. Press the catch on the lid of the dispenser for rinse aid and lift.

2. Add rinse aid up to the max mark.

3. If rinse aid spills out, remove it from the tub.

4. Close the lid of the dispenser. The lid should click into position.

Setting the Amount of Rinse Aid:

If there are streaks or water spots on dishware, change the amount of rinse aid.

1. Press ON/OFF.

2. To open the appliance settings, press button A (first cycle button on the left) for 3 seconds. The refill indicator for rinse aid will flash.

3. Press Start repeatedly until the right amount of rinse aid has been set. 0, 1, 2, or 3 LEDs will light up accordingly. The factory setting is level 2. A low setting adds less rinse aid and reduces streaking. A higher setting adds more rinse aid, reduces water spots, and improves drying.

4. To store the setting, press button A for 3 seconds.

Switching Off the Rinse Aid System:

1. Press ON/OFF.

2. Press button A for 3 seconds to open settings.

3. Press Start repeatedly until no LED lights up. The rinse aid system is now switched off.

4. To store the setting, press button A for 3 seconds.

Only use detergents made for dishwashers. For best results, use a separate detergent and rinse aid.

Incompatible Detergents: Do not use liquid hand soap or detergents containing chlorine.

1. To open the detergent dispenser, press the locking latch.

2. Add the detergent to the dry detergent dispenser.

• If using tablets, one is enough. Insert the tablet in a horizontal position.

• If using powder or liquid detergent, follow the manufacturer’s instructions. 1.5 to 1.75 Tbsp (20 ml – 25 ml) is sufficient for normal soiling. For light soiling, use slightly less.

3. Close the lid of the detergent dispenser. It will click into position.

The dispenser opens automatically during the cycle. Do not place any objects in the tablet collecting tray.

Detergent Amount Guidelines:

• Auto: 1.75 Tbsp (25 ml) or 1 tab

• Normal: 1.75 Tbsp (25 ml) or 1 tab

• Heavy: 3 Tbsp (45 ml) or 1 tab

• Speed 60®: 1 Tbsp (15 ml)

Only put glasses and china in the dishwasher if they are labeled dishwasher-safe.

Loading Dishware:

1. Remove large remnants of food from dishware. To save resources, do not pre-rinse.

2. Observe the following when arranging dishware:

• Put heavily soiled dishware in the lower rack, e.g. pans.

• To avoid damage, arrange dishware so it is stable and cannot tip over.

• To avoid injury, arrange silverware with points and sharp edges facing down.

• Position containers with openings facing down so no water can collect in them.

• Position items with curves or recesses at an angle so water can run off.

• Do not block the spray arms; make sure they can turn freely.

• Do not place small parts in the collecting tray or block it with dishware.

Removing Dishware:

Dishes can be very hot immediately after the cycle ends. Open the door slightly and allow dishes to cool for a few minutes before unloading.

1. To prevent water dripping onto dishware, unload it starting at the bottom and working up.

2. Check the washing tank and accessories for soiling and clean if necessary.

Switching On the Appliance:

Touch ON/OFF with a short 1 second touch. The last selected cycle and option will be set by default.

Setting a Cycle:

Press the cycle button repeatedly until the right cycle has been selected. The cycle is set and the LED flashes.

Setting Options:

Press the button for the relevant option. The option is set and the option button flashes.

Starting the Wash Cycle:

Press Start. The door must be closed within 4 seconds, otherwise the operation will be paused. To resume, press Start again and close the door.

Interrupting the Wash Cycle:

1. Press On/Off. The program is saved.

2. Press On/Off again to turn the appliance back on.

3. Press Start to resume the wash cycle.

Terminating the Wash Cycle (Reset):

To end a cycle early:

1. Open the appliance door.

2. Press Reset 4 sec. for approx. 4 seconds.

3. Close the appliance door.

All displays will light up, then the residual water is pumped out. The cycle is cancelled and ends after approx. 1 minute.

Switching Off the Appliance:

Press On/Off.

You can configure basic settings to meet your needs. To enter the settings menu, press ON/OFF, then press and hold button A (the first cycle button on the left) for 3 seconds.

Setting Intensive Drying:

1. Enter the settings menu.

2. Press button A repeatedly until the Clean and Sanitize LEDs flash.

3. Press the Start button repeatedly. If the LED (1) lights up, intensive drying is switched on. If the LED is not lit, it is switched off.

4. To store the setting, press button A for 3 seconds.

Setting Signal Volume:

1. Enter the settings menu.

2. Press button A repeatedly until the Clean and Rinse Aid LEDs flash.

3. Press the Start button repeatedly to select the signal volume. 0, 1, 2, or 3 LEDs will light up. The factory setting is level 2.

4. To store the setting, press button A for 3 seconds.

Setting Wi-Fi:

1. Enter the settings menu.

2. Press button A repeatedly until the Rinse Aid and Sanitize LEDs flash.

3. Press the Start button repeatedly. If the LED (1) lights up, Wi-Fi is switched on. If not lit, it is switched off.

4. To store the setting, press button A for 3 seconds.

Restoring Factory Settings:

1. Press ON/OFF.

2. Open the appliance settings by pressing button A for 3 seconds.

3. Press button A repeatedly until the Clean, Rinse Aid, and Sanitize LEDs flash.

4. Press the Start button. These LEDs will flash, indicating the appliance is resetting to factory settings.

Debris in the rinsing water can block the filters. Check the filters for residue after each dishwashing cycle.

1. Turn the coarse filter counterclockwise and remove the filter system.

2. Pull the micro filter downward and off.

3. Press the locking catches together and take the coarse filter upward and out.

4. Clean the filter elements under running water. Carefully remove any debris between the coarse and fine filters.

5. Put the filter system back together. Ensure the locking catches on the coarse filter click into position.

6. Insert the filter system into the appliance and turn the coarse filter clockwise until the arrow markings match up.

Limescale and soiling may block the nozzles. Clean the spray arms regularly.

Upper Spray Arm:

1. Unscrew the upper spray arm and pull down to remove.

2. Check the outlet nozzles for blockages under running water and remove any foreign objects.

3. Insert the upper spray arm and screw firmly in place.

Lower Spray Arm:

1. Pull up the lower spray arm to remove.

2. Check the outlet nozzles for blockages under running water and remove any foreign objects.

3. Insert the lower spray arm. It will click into position.

If large food remnants or foreign objects block the drain pump, it must be cleaned. Use caution as there may be sharp debris.

1. Disconnect the appliance from the power supply.

2. Remove the upper and lower rack.

3. Remove the filter system.

4. Scoop out any water with a sponge if necessary.

5. Pry the pump cover off using a spoon and grip it by the crosspiece.

6. Lift the pump cover diagonally inward and take it out.

7. Remove any food remnants or foreign objects from the area of the impeller.

8. Insert the pump cover and press down until it clicks into position.

9. Install the filter system.

10. Insert the upper and lower rack.

Transporting the Appliance:

To avoid damage, empty the appliance before transporting. Always transport it upright.

1. Remove dishware.

2. Secure loose parts.

3. Open the water supply valve.

4. Switch on the appliance.

5. Select the cycle with the highest temperature.

6. Start the cycle.

7. To drain the appliance, terminate the cycle after approx. 4 minutes.

8. Switch off the appliance.

9. Close the water supply valve.

10. To empty residual water, detach the supply hose and let the water drain out.

Vacation and Storage:

• Warmer weather: Before leaving for vacation, turn off the main water valve and also the water supply at the nearest point to the dishwasher.

• Colder weather (Winterizing): If your dishwasher will be unused for an extended period in a location with freezing temperatures, have it winterized by an authorized service provider.

This is not an appliance error and can indicate several issues:

• Drainage issue: A garbage disposal may still be plugged or the drain hose is kinked. Check that the garbage disposal plug is removed and that the drain hose is not kinked.

• Drain pump issue: The drain pump cover may be loose or a foreign object is blocking the pump. Secure the cover so it clicks into place or clean the drain pump.

• Inlet hose kinked: Install the supply hose without kinks.

• Water supply valve issues: The valve may be closed, jammed, or clogged. Open the water supply valve. The flow rate must be at least 10 l/min when open.

• Low power voltage: This is an issue with the electrical installation, not the appliance. Call an electrician to check the power voltage.

• Technical issue: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, there may be a technical fault. Try resetting the appliance:

1. Press ON/OFF.

2. Unplug the appliance or switch off the breaker.

3. Wait at least 2 minutes.

4. Plug the appliance back in or switch on the breaker.

5. Switch on the appliance.

If your dishware is not dry, check the following:

• Rinse Aid: No rinse aid has been used or the dosage is set too low. Add rinse aid or increase the dosage setting.

• Cycle Selection: The selected cycle or option has no drying phase, or the drying phase is too short. Select a wash cycle with drying. Note that some options can decrease the drying result.

• Loading: Water is collecting in recesses of dishware or silverware. Position dishware at an angle to allow water to run off.

• Detergent: The combined detergent used has poor drying performance. Use rinse aid to improve drying or use a different combined detergent.

• Intensive Drying Option: The Extra Dry/intensive drying option is not activated. Activate this option to improve drying performance.

• Unloading Time: Dishware was removed too early. Wait until the program ends, and then wait another 30 minutes before removing dishware.

• Silverware Arrangement: Silverware is not arranged properly, causing droplets to form on contact points. Arrange silverware individually where possible and avoid points of contact.

This is not an error. The BOSCH SHS3ADF5N uses condensation drying, which creates water droplets in the tub. Moisture in the air condenses on the inside walls of the appliance, runs off, and is pumped out. This is normal, and no action is required.

Food remnants can be caused by several factors:

• Improper Loading: Dishware was placed too close together or the rack is overfilled. Arrange dishware with sufficient space between items.

• Spray Arm Blockage: Spray arm rotation is blocked by dishware. Arrange items so they do not obstruct spray arm rotation.

• Clogged Nozzles: Spray arm nozzles are blocked. Clean the spray arms.

• Dirty Filters: The filters are dirty. Clean the filters.

• Incorrect Filter Installation: Filters are inserted incorrectly or not engaged. Insert filters properly and twist them into place.

• Weak Wash Cycle: The selected wash cycle is too light for the level of soiling. Select a more intensive wash program.

• Over-precleaning: Dishware was precleaned too intensively, causing the sensors to choose a lighter cycle. Only remove large remnants of food and do not pre-rinse.

• Improper Placement: Tall narrow containers in corner areas are not rinsed out adequately. Do not position them at too great an angle or in corner areas.

• Uneven Upper Rack: The upper rack is not set to the same height on the left and right. Adjust it to be level.

Detergent residue can occur for the following reasons:

• Blocked Dispenser Lid: The lid of the detergent dispenser was blocked by items of dishware and could not open. Arrange dishware in the upper rack so the tab collecting tray is not obstructed. Do not place dishware or fragrance dispensers in the tab collecting tray.

• Improper Tab Placement: The lid of the detergent dispenser is blocked by the tab. Position the tab in the dispenser crosswise, not vertically.

• Short Cycle Time: Tabs were used in a quick or short cycle, and there was not enough time for the tab to dissolve. Select a more intensive wash cycle or use powder detergent.

• Old Detergent: The detergent may have lost its dissolving ability after being stored for a long time, or it is clumped. Change your detergent.

• Blocked Spray Arms: Spray arms were blocked by dishware, so detergent was not rinsed out. Check that spray arms are not blocked and can rotate freely.

• Damp Dispenser: The detergent dispenser was damp when detergent was added. Only add detergent to a dry dispenser.

Droplet formation on plastic surfaces is unavoidable due to the laws of physics. Water spots are visible after drying. To minimize this:

• Select a more intensive program.

• Position dishware at an angle.

• Use rinse aid.

• Detergent Residue (Wipeable coatings): These coatings cannot generally be removed with chemicals. Change your detergent and scrub the appliance by hand.

• Detergent Residue (Stubborn white coatings): These coatings also cannot be removed with chemicals. Change your detergent and scrub the appliance. This can also be caused by using too little detergent; increase the amount used or change brands.

• Removable Streaks on Glassware/Silverware: This is caused by the amount of rinse aid being set too high. Set the rinse aid system to a lower setting. If no rinse aid has been added, this could also be the cause. Add rinse aid. It can also be caused by detergent residue in the final rinse because the dispenser lid was blocked; arrange dishware so it does not block the lid.

This can be caused by a few issues:

• Low Temperature: The dishwashing temperature is too low. Select a program with a higher dishwashing temperature.

• Insufficient Detergent: Too little detergent is being used or it is unsuitable. Use a suitable detergent and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the amount to be used.

• Over-precleaning: Dishware has been precleaned too intensively, causing the sensors to select a lighter cycle. Only remove large remnants of food and do not pre-rinse.

The formation of these films can be due to:

• Substances contained in vegetables (cabbage, celery, potatoes, noodles, etc.) or tap water (manganese).

• Metal components on silver or aluminum dishware.

To resolve this, clean the appliance. You can remove these coatings with mechanical cleaning or a machine cleaning product. It may not always be possible to completely remove the coatings, but they are harmless to health.

• Normal Wear: Plastic parts inside the appliance may become discolored over the life of the dishwasher. This will not impair the functioning of the appliance.

• Low Temperature: The dishwashing temperature is too low. Select a program with a higher dishwashing temperature.

• Over-precleaning: Dishware has been precleaned too intensively, causing the sensors to choose a lighter cycle. Only remove large remnants of food and do not pre-rinse.

Excessive foam can be caused by:

• Hand soap in rinse aid dispenser: If hand soap got in the rinse aid dispenser, immediately add rinse aid to the dispenser.

• Spilled rinse aid: Remove spilled rinse aid with a cloth.

• Wrong product: A detergent or machine care product used is causing excessive foaming. Change the brand of detergent.

If the appliance does not start, check the following:

• Tripped Breaker: The circuit breaker has tripped. Check the relevant breaker.

• Power Cord: The power cord is not inserted properly. Check if the power outlet is working and if the power cord is properly inserted in the outlet and on the rear of the appliance.

• Door Not Closed: The appliance door is not closed properly. Close the appliance door.

• Cycle End: You did not wait until the previous cycle ended. Wait for the cycle to terminate completely before starting a new one.

If the appliance stops mid-cycle, it could be due to:

• Door Not Closed: The appliance door is not closed properly. Close the appliance door.

• Power/Water Interruption: The power and/or water supply has been interrupted. Check the power and water supply.

• Rack Obstruction: The upper rack is pressing against the inner door, preventing it from closing securely. Check if the rear panel of the appliance is being pressed by a power outlet or hose holder. Arrange the dishware so that no parts project beyond the rack.

• Door Lock Activated: The door lock has been activated. Close the appliance door with greater force.

• Installation Issue: The door cannot be closed due to the installation method. Check if the appliance has been installed properly. When closed, the door or its attached parts should not knock against adjacent cabinets or the worktop.
