Please observe the following safety instructions when using your BOSCH KDN fridge-freezer:

Technical Safety:

This appliance contains a small quantity of environmentally-friendly but flammable R600a refrigerant. Ensure the tubing of the refrigerant circuit is not damaged during transport and installation. If damage occurs, keep naked flames away, ventilate the room, switch off the appliance, pull the mains plug, and inform customer service.

If the power cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, customer service, or a similarly qualified person.

Repairs may only be performed by the manufacturer, customer service, or a qualified person using original parts.

Important Usage Information:

Never use electrical appliances inside the BOSCH KDN (e.g., heater, electric ice maker). Risk of explosion!

Never use a steam cleaner to defrost or clean the appliance. Steam can cause a short-circuit.

Do not use pointed or sharp-edged implements to remove frost or ice, as this could damage the refrigerant tubing.

Do not store products with flammable propellants (e.g., spray cans) or explosive substances inside.

Do not stand or support yourself on the base, drawers, or doors.

Before defrosting or cleaning, pull out the mains plug or switch off the fuse.

Bottles with a high percentage of alcohol must be sealed and stored upright.

Keep plastic parts and the door seal free of oil and grease.

Never cover or block the ventilation openings.

Do not store bottled or canned drinks (especially carbonated ones) in the freezer compartment, as they can explode.

Never put frozen food straight from the freezer into your mouth. Risk of low-temperature burns!

Avoid prolonged contact with frozen food, ice, or evaporator pipes.

Keep children away from the packaging and its parts to prevent the danger of suffocation from folding cartons and plastic film.

Do not allow children to play with the appliance.

If the BOSCH KDN features a lock, keep the key out of the reach of children.

Disposal of packaging:

The packaging protects your appliance from damage during transit. All materials used are environmentally safe and recyclable. Please help by disposing of the packaging in an environmentally friendly manner. Ask your dealer or inquire at your local authority about current means of disposal.

Disposal of your old appliance:

Old appliances are not worthless rubbish. Valuable raw materials can be reclaimed by recycling old appliances. To safely dispose of a redundant BOSCH KDN appliance:

1. Pull out the mains plug.

2. Cut off the power cord and discard it with the mains plug.

3. Do not take out the trays and receptacles; this prevents children from climbing in.

4. Do not allow children to play with the appliance once it has spent its useful life. Refrigerators contain refrigerant and gases in the insulation which must be disposed of professionally.

The BOSCH KDN appliance is designed for a specific climate class, which can be found on the rating plate. The appliance should be operated within the following permitted ambient temperatures:

The appliance is fully functional within these limits. If an appliance of climate class SN is operated at colder room temperatures, it will not be damaged up to a temperature of +5 °C.

The air on the rear panel and side panels of the appliance heats up. The conduction of this heated air must not be obstructed. Otherwise, the refrigerating unit will have to work harder, which increases power consumption. Therefore, you must never cover or block the ventilation openings.

After installing the appliance, wait at least 1 hour before switching it on to allow any oil in the compressor to settle. Before switching on for the first time, clean the interior.

Electrical connection:

The socket must be near the appliance and freely accessible after installation.

The appliance complies with protection class I. Connect the appliance to 220-240 V/50 Hz alternating current via a correctly installed socket with a protective conductor.

The socket must be fused with a 10 to 16 A fuse.

Never connect the appliance to electronic energy saver plugs.

The BOSCH KDN fridge-freezer consists of two main compartments, A (Freezer) and B (Refrigerator), with the following components (*not all models):

Switching the appliance on:

1. Press the On/Off button. A warning signal will be emitted.

2. Press the alarm button. The warning signal will stop.

The alarm button will remain lit until the set temperature has been reached. The factory recommends a refrigerator temperature of +4 °C and a freezer temperature of -18 °C.

Operating tips:

It may take several hours for the set temperatures to be reached after switching on.

The fully automatic NoFrost system keeps the freezer compartment free of ice, so defrosting is not required.

The sides of the housing may sometimes heat slightly to prevent condensation near the door seal.

If the freezer door cannot be immediately re-opened after closing, wait a moment for the low pressure to equalize.

Refrigerator Compartment:

The temperature can be set from +2 °C to +8 °C.

Keep pressing the refrigerator temperature selection button (3) until the required temperature is set. The value is saved and shown on the temperature display (4). A factory setting of +4 °C is recommended. Perishable food should not be stored above +4 °C.

Freezer Compartment:

The temperature can be set from -16 °C to -24 °C.

Keep pressing the freezer temperature selection button (6) until the required temperature is set. The value is saved and shown on the temperature display (7).

Door Alarm: The door alarm switches on if a door is left open for longer than one minute. Close the door to switch off the warning signal.

Temperature Alarm: The temperature alarm switches on if the freezer compartment is too warm. To switch off the warning signal, press the alarm button (1).

The alarm may switch on without any risk to the frozen food when the appliance is first switched on, when large quantities of fresh food are placed inside, or if the freezer door is open too long.

The maximum amount of food can be placed in the freezer of your BOSCH KDN by removing the following fittings:

The door shelf can be taken out.

If your appliance features an ice maker, it can also be taken out.

The refrigerator compartment is ideal for ready meals, cakes, pastries, preserved food, condensed milk, hard cheese, and fruit and vegetables sensitive to cold.

Wrap or cover food before placing it in the appliance to retain its aroma, color, and freshness. This also prevents flavor transfer and discoloration of plastic parts.

Avoid contact between food and the rear panel, as this will impair air circulation. Food or packaging could freeze to the rear panel.

Super cooling sets the refrigerator to the coldest temperature setting for approximately 6 hours, after which it automatically switches back to the previously set temperature. Switch on super cooling mode before placing large quantities of food in the refrigerator or for the fast cooling of drinks.

To switch it on and off, press the “super” button for the refrigerator compartment. The button will be lit when super cooling is active.

Only freeze fresh and undamaged food. To retain the best nutritional value, flavor, and color, vegetables should be blanched before freezing (aubergines, peppers, zucchini, and asparagus do not require this).

Foods suitable for freezing:

Cakes and pastries, fish and seafood, meat, game, poultry, vegetables, fruit, herbs, eggs without shells, dairy products (cheese, butter, quark), ready meals, and leftovers like soups, stews, cooked meat and fish, potato dishes, soufflés, and desserts.

Foods not suitable for freezing:

Types of vegetables usually consumed raw (lettuce, radishes), eggs in shells, grapes, whole apples, pears, peaches, hard-boiled eggs, yoghurt, soured milk, sour cream, crème fraîche, and mayonnaise.

To prevent food from losing flavor or drying out, place it in airtight containers.

1. Place food in packaging.

2. Remove air.

3. Seal the wrapping.

4. Label the packaging with its contents and the date of freezing.

Suitable packaging: Plastic film, tubular film made of polyethylene, aluminum foil, freezer containers.

Unsuitable packaging: Wrapping paper, greaseproof paper, cellophane, bin liners, and used shopping bags.

Items for sealing: Rubber bands, plastic clips, string, cold-resistant adhesive tape, etc.

The storage duration depends on the type of food. At a temperature of -18 °C:

Fish, sausage, ready meals and cakes and pastries: up to 6 months

Cheese, poultry and meat: up to 8 months

Vegetables and fruit: up to 12 months

Food should be frozen solid as quickly as possible to retain vitamins, nutritional value, appearance, and flavor. Switch on super freezing several hours before placing fresh food in the freezer to prevent an unwanted temperature rise; 4-6 hours is usually adequate.

If the maximum freezing capacity is to be used, switch on super freezing 24 hours before placing fresh produce in the freezer. Smaller quantities of food (up to 2 kg) can be frozen without this function.

To switch it on and off, press the “super” button for the freezer compartment. The button will be lit when active. Super freezing automatically switches off after approximately 2.5 days.

Depending on the type of food and application, select one of the following options:

at room temperature

in the refrigerator

in an electric oven, with/without fan-assisted hot-air

in the microwave

Caution: Do not refreeze thawing or thawed food. Only ready meals (boiled or fried) may be refrozen. Do not store the frozen produce for longer than the maximum storage period.

Repositioning Shelves:

Pull the main shelf forwards, lower it, and swing it out to the side.

To remove a door shelf, raise it and remove it.

Bottle and cold storage compartment (not all models):

Pull the base of the compartment forwards to open the flap. The temperatures here are lower than in the rest of the refrigerator. Compartment A is for drinks, and Compartment B is for fish, meat, and sausage. Do not move or take out the partition.

Vegetable container with humidity controller:

To create the optimum storage climate, slide the regulator. For smaller quantities of food, slide it to the left. For larger quantities, slide it to the right.

Bottle holder:

This prevents bottles from falling over when the door is opened and closed.

Ice maker:

1. Remove the ice cube tray, fill it 3/4 full of drinking water, and re-insert.

2. When the cubes are frozen, rotate the knobs on the tray several times to the right and release. The ice cubes will loosen and fall into the storage container.

3. Remove ice cubes from the storage container.

Switching off the appliance:

Press the On/Off button (8). The refrigerating unit and light will switch off.

Disconnecting the appliance:

If you do not use the appliance for a prolonged period:

1. Switch off the appliance.

2. Pull out the mains plug or switch off the fuse.

3. Clean the appliance.

4. Leave the appliance door open.

Cleaning precautions:

Do not use abrasive, chloride, or acidic cleaning agents or solvents.

Do not use scouring or abrasive sponges, as they can corrode metallic surfaces.

Never clean shelves and containers in the dishwasher, as they may become deformed.

Ensure cleaning water does not drip into the slots in the front base area, the controls, or the light.

Cleaning procedure:

1. Before cleaning, switch the appliance off.

2. Pull out the mains plug or switch off the fuse.

3. Take out the frozen food and store it in a cool location. Place an ice pack on the food if available.

4. Clean the appliance with a soft cloth, lukewarm water, and a little pH-neutral washing-up liquid.

5. Wipe the door seal with clear water only and then wipe dry thoroughly.

6. After cleaning, reconnect and switch the appliance back on.

7. Put the frozen food back into the freezer compartment.

Install the appliance in a dry, well-ventilated room. Do not install it in direct sunlight or near a heat source (e.g., radiator, cooker). Use an insulating plate if necessary.

Do not block the ventilation openings in the appliance.

Allow warm food and drinks to cool down before placing them in the appliance.

Thaw frozen food in the refrigerator compartment and use the low temperature of the frozen food to cool refrigerated food.

Open the appliance as briefly as possible.

Ensure that the freezer compartment door is always closed properly.

Occasionally clean the rear of the appliance to prevent an increased power consumption.

The arrangement of the fittings does not affect the energy rating of the appliance.

Quite normal noises:

Droning: Motors are running (e.g., refrigerating units, fan).

Bubbling, humming or gurgling: Refrigerant is flowing through the tubing.

Clicking: Motor, switches, or solenoid valves are switching on/off.

Cracking: Automatic defrosting is running.

Preventing noises:

If the appliance is not level, please align it using a spirit level and adjust the height-adjustable feet.

If the appliance is not free-standing, move it away from adjacent units or appliances.

If containers or storage areas wobble or stick, check the removable parts and re-insert them correctly.

If bottles or receptacles are touching, move them slightly away from each other.
