What are the important safety instructions for using the BISSELL CLEANVIEW 1834?

To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury when using your BISSELL CLEANVIEW 1834, always follow these basic precautions:

General Safety:

• Do not leave the vacuum cleaner when it is plugged in. Unplug from the outlet when not in use and before servicing.

• Do not use outdoors or on wet surfaces.

• Do not allow it to be used as a toy. Close attention is necessary when used by or near children.

• Use only for its intended purpose as described in the User’s Guide. Use only manufacturer’s recommended attachments.

• Do not use with a damaged cord or plug. If the appliance is not working as it should, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into water, have it repaired at an authorized service center.

• Do not pull or carry by the cord, use the cord as a handle, close a door on the cord, or pull the cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not run the appliance over the cord. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces.

• Do not unplug by pulling on the cord. To unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord.

• Do not handle the plug or vacuum cleaner with wet hands.

• Do not put any object into openings. Do not use with any opening blocked; keep openings free of dust, lint, hair, and anything that may reduce air flow.

• Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all parts of the body away from openings and moving parts.

• Turn off all controls before plugging or unplugging the vacuum cleaner.

• Use extra care when cleaning on stairs.

• Keep the appliance on a level surface.

• Do not carry the vacuum cleaner while it is running.

• Unplug before connecting or disconnecting the TurboBrush® Tool.

Prohibited Uses:

• Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible materials (lighter fluid, gasoline, kerosene, etc.) or use in areas where they may be present.

• Do not use the vacuum cleaner in an enclosed space filled with vapors given off by oil-based paint, paint thinner, some moth-proofing substances, flammable dust, or other explosive or toxic vapors.

• Do not use to pick up toxic material (chlorine bleach, ammonia, drain cleaner, etc.).

• Do not pick up anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches, or hot ashes.

• Do not pick up hard or sharp objects such as glass, nails, screws, coins, etc.

Filter and Container Safety:

• Before using your vacuum, make sure the dirt container is in the locked position and that all filters, both pre- and post-filters, are in place. DO NOT operate your vacuum without these filters.

• Do not use without filters in place.

Additional Warnings:

• Plastic film can be dangerous. To avoid the danger of suffocation, keep it away from children.

• Do not plug in your vacuum UNTIL you are familiar with all instructions and operating procedures.

• To reduce the risk of electrical shock, turn the power switch off and disconnect the polarized plug from the electrical outlet BEFORE performing maintenance or troubleshooting checks.

Polarized Plug:

To reduce the risk of electric shock, this appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install a proper outlet. Do not change the plug in any way.

How do I assemble my BISSELL CLEANVIEW 1834?

The only tool you will need to assemble your vacuum is a Phillips screwdriver. Follow these steps:

1. Place the handle on the vacuum base and press down firmly.

2. Insert the two screws provided (taped to the handle) into the back of the unit. Tighten by rotating the screws clockwise until tightened.

3. Push the upper cord wrap into its slot firmly until you hear a “click”.

4. Place the extension wand clip on the back of the unit and twist it clockwise to lock it in.

5. Line up the tabs on the hose end with the vacuum base and twist clockwise to lock it in. Note: The powerfoot will not suction properly unless the hose is firmly attached.

6. Wrap the hose up and around the hose wrap on the handle. Slide the end of the hose into the vacuum base.

7. If your model includes a TurboBrush® Tool, store it on the handle holder.

8. Store the dusting brush in its holder above the hose wrap.

How do I operate my BISSELL CLEANVIEW 1834?

Powering On and Off:

1. Push the red Power Switch Pedal on the foot of the vacuum once to turn the unit ON.

2. Push the pedal again to turn the unit OFF.

Reclining the Vacuum:

1. Press the recline pedal (located next to the power pedal) and pull the handle back towards you.

Adjusting the Height Setting:

Turn the dial on the foot of the vacuum to the desired carpet height setting. If the dial is difficult to turn, tilt the vacuum back slightly to take the weight off the foot while turning.

Lowest setting: For low pile carpet or bare floors. To pick up debris, it may be necessary to move up one setting.

Medium setting: For medium pile carpet.

Highest setting: For high pile and most shag carpet.

Tip: For optimal carpet cleaning performance, adjust to the lowest practical setting. If your vacuum is difficult to push, adjust to the next higher setting.

Important Operational Notes:

• To reduce the risk of injury from moving parts while the vacuum is turned on, always move the vacuum via the rolling wheels by using the upper handle at the back of the vacuum. Do not carry the vacuum while it is running. Always place the vacuum on the floor with the handle in the upright position when using tools.

• The rotating floor brush continues to rotate while tools are in use. Never place your fingers under the vacuum when it is running. Never place the powerfoot on furniture or uneven surfaces. Do not place the vacuum close enough to objects to pull them into the rotating brush.

• Certain carpets and low humidity conditions may generate small static discharges. These are entirely harmless and are not associated in any way with the main power supply.

Empty the dirt tank once it is full. Follow these steps:

1. Press the tank release button and pull the dirt tank away from the vacuum body to remove it.

3. To clean the cyclone, twist it counter-clockwise and pull down to remove it from the tank.

4. Clean the cyclone with warm water and a mild detergent. Let the cyclone dry completely before replacing it.

5. To replace the cyclone, align the arrow on the cyclone with the “unlock” icon on the back of the tank. Press it in and turn clockwise to lock.

6. Place the assembled tank back on the vacuum and press firmly until you hear a “click”.

Note: The dirt tank may be washed in warm water with a mild detergent. Ensure it is completely dry before replacing.

3. Make sure the filter is completely dry before placing it back into the tank lid. Close the lid to return the tank to the vacuum.

4. Place the tank back on the vacuum and press firmly until you hear a “click”.

How do I maintain the post-motor filter on my BISSELL CLEANVIEW 1834?

1. The post-motor filter is located on the front of the vacuum, below the dirt tank. Firmly pull the filter tray out to access it.

2. Push the pleated filter down through the filter tray to remove it.

3. If dust and/or debris accumulates on the filter, you can gently tap the filter on the side of a garbage container to clean it.

Note: The pleated post-motor filter may NOT be washed with water or detergent. It is recommended to replace the post-motor filter every 3 to 6 months.

How do I maintain and replace the brush and belt on my BISSELL CLEANVIEW 1834?

1. Unplug the vacuum, turn it over, and unscrew the six (6) Phillips head screws to remove the bottom cover.

2. Clean debris from the brush roll. Inspect the brush roll by placing it on its end and spinning it. The brush roll should spin freely, multiple times by one flick. If it doesn’t, replace the brush roll. Check the belt for wear or cuts and replace it if necessary.

3. To reassemble, thread the belt around the motor shaft and brush roll. Line up the end caps on the brush roll and place it back into the foot of the vacuum. Replace the bottom cover and the 6 screws.

Note: If an object becomes lodged in the foot and the brush shuts off, turn the vacuum off and unplug it from the electrical outlet. Remove the obstruction, and the brush will automatically reset when the vacuum is plugged in and turned back on.

How do I clean the TurboBrush® Tool on my BISSELL CLEANVIEW 1834?

1. Twist the gray collar counter-clockwise until the slot appears, then separate the faceplate.

2. Remove the brush roll, belt, and paddle wheel. Inspect for damages and replace if necessary.

3. To reassemble, align the two clips on each end of the paddle wheel with the belt on and pop it back into place. Place the brush roll with the belt back in. The faceplate will not close properly if all parts are not aligned correctly.
