7. SECURE MOUNTING: Mounting your subwoofer enclosure properly is about safety. A loose enclosure can become a projectile during a hard stop or sharp turn. A poorly placed or unsecured enclosure can interfere with fuel lines, brake lines, or electrical wiring. Before drilling, check what’s behind or underneath your mounting area.

8. Use speaker wire of sufficient size (10-14 gauge) to ensure adequate current to the speaker.

9. To prevent excessive cone excursion and potential damage, it is advisable to use an infrasonic (subsonic) filter set half an octave below Fb (the enclosure’s tuning frequency).

10. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.

The power handling of the AUDIOCONTROL EPICX8 D2 varies depending on the enclosure it is installed in.

1. Sealed enclosure – 400 W RMS

2. Vented enclosure – 400 W RMS

3. Large vented enclosure – 350 W RMS

In the case of an oversized vented enclosure, reduced power is needed to control the woofer’s excursion and maintain high efficiency.

Below are the TS parameters for the AUDIOCONTROL EPICX8 D2. These parameters are measured after an 8 to 12 hour break-in period and may change slightly with use.

Wiring a dual voice coil subwoofer in series doubles the impedance the amplifier sees. For the AUDIOCONTROL EPICX8 D2 (2Ω per coil), this results in a 4Ω load.

To wire in series:

1. Connect one voice coil’s negative terminal to the other voice coil’s positive terminal to form a bridge.

2. Connect the amp’s positive output to the first voice coil’s open positive terminal.

3. Connect the amp’s negative output to the second voice coil’s open negative terminal.

Wiring a dual voice coil subwoofer in parallel cuts the impedance the amplifier sees in half. For the AUDIOCONTROL EPICX8 D2 (2Ω per coil), this results in a 1Ω load.

To wire in parallel:

1. Connect both positive voice coil terminals together.

2. Connect both negative voice coil terminals together.

3. Connect the amp’s positive output to the joined positive terminals.

4. Connect the amp’s negative output to the joined negative terminals.

This configuration will result in a 2Ω final impedance for two AUDIOCONTROL EPICX8 D2 subwoofers.

1. On each subwoofer, connect one voice coil’s negative terminal to the other voice coil’s positive terminal to form a bridge. This wires each sub’s coils in series for a 4Ω load per sub.

2. Connect the remaining open positive terminals on each subwoofer together.

3. Connect the remaining open negative terminals on each subwoofer together.

5. Connect the amp’s negative output to the joined negative terminals.

To wire two subwoofers in parallel:

1. On both subwoofers, connect both positive voice coil terminals together, and both negative voice coil terminals together. This wires each sub’s coils in parallel for a 1Ω load per sub.

2. Connect the amp’s positive output to the joined positive terminals on each subwoofer.

3. Connect the amp’s negative output to the joined negative terminals on each subwoofer.

Warning: This wiring configuration is not recommended for the AUDIOCONTROL EPICX8 D2 (2Ω) subwoofer! This configuration would result in a 0.5Ω load, which most amplifiers cannot handle safely.

The choice between a sealed or ported enclosure depends on available space and personal music preference.

Once you’ve decided on a sealed or ported enclosure, you can fine-tune its size to match your vehicle space and listening preferences. The size affects the overall sound as follows:

• MIN: The smallest recommended enclosure size, providing the most compact size, while sacrificing some low-frequency bass response.

• IDEAL: Recommended for most listeners, providing an excellent blend of low-frequency bass with accurate and strong overall output.

• MAX: The largest recommended enclosure size, and although it is quite large, it provides exceptional bass with extended low-frequency output.
