Two-Color Battery Charge Indicator Details:

Follow these steps to charge your ASUS PE552S:

A. Connect the AC power cord to the AC/DC adapter.

B. Plug the AC power adapter into a 100V~240V power source.

C. Connect the DC power connector into your Notebook PC’s power (DC) input.

It is recommended to charge the Notebook PC for 3 hours before using it in battery mode for the first time.

The touchpad on your ASUS PE552S allows for various gestures:

Moving the pointer: Tap anywhere on the touchpad to activate its pointer, then slide your finger on the touchpad to move the pointer onscreen (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally).

One-finger gestures:

• Tap/Double-tap: Tap an app to select it. Double-tap an app to launch it.

• Drag and drop: Double-tap an item, then slide the same finger without lifting it off the touchpad. Lift your finger to drop the item in a new location.

Left-click and Right-click: The bottom areas of the touchpad function as left and right mouse buttons.

• Left-click: Click an app to select it. Double-click an app to launch it.

• Right-click: Click the right button area to open the right-click menu.

Two-finger gestures:

• Scroll (up/down/left/right): Slide two fingers on the touchpad to scroll.

• Zoom out: Bring two fingers together on the touchpad.

• Zoom in: Spread two fingers apart on the touchpad.

• Drag and drop: Select an item, then press and hold the left button. Using your other finger, slide on the touchpad to drag the item, then lift your finger off the button to drop it.

Function Keys: Press the ‘fn’ key in combination with the function keys (F1-F12) to trigger the following commands:

• fn + F1: Puts the Notebook PC into Sleep mode.

• fn + F2: Turns Airplane mode on or off.

• fn + F5: Decreases display brightness.

• fn + F6: Increases display brightness.

• fn + F7: Turns the display panel off.

• fn + F8: Toggles the display mode (for an external display).

• fn + F9: Enables or disables the touchpad.

• fn + F10: Turns the speaker on or off.

• fn + F11: Turns the speaker volume down.

• fn + F12: Turns the speaker volume up.

Multimedia Control Keys: Press ‘fn’ in combination with the arrow keys to control media playback:

• fn + Up Arrow: Stop

• fn + Down Arrow: Play or pause

• fn + Left Arrow: Skip to previous track or rewind

• fn + Right Arrow: Skip to next track or fast forward

Follow these steps to insert an optical disc:

1. While the Notebook PC is on, press the electronic eject button to partially eject the optical drive tray.

2. Gently pull out the drive tray. Be careful not to touch the optical drive lens.

3. Hold the disc by the edge with its printed side up, then gently place it inside the hub.

4. Push down on the disc’s plastic hub until it snaps onto the optical drive hub.

5. Push the drive tray gently to close the optical drive.

The manual eject hole is used to eject the optical drive tray if the electronic eject button does not work. To manually eject the tray, insert a straightened paper clip into the manual eject hole until the drive tray opens.

When you start your ASUS PE552S for the first time, a series of screens will guide you in configuring Windows® 10:

1. Press the power button. Wait a few minutes for the setup screen to appear.

2. From the setup screen, pick your region and language.

3. Carefully read the License Terms and select ‘I accept’.

4. Follow the onscreen instructions to configure basic items: Personalize, Get online, Settings, and Your account.

5. After configuring these items, Windows® 10 will install your apps and preferred settings. Keep your Notebook PC powered on during this process.

6. Once the setup is complete, the Desktop will appear.

You can move, resize, unpin, or pin apps from the Start menu:

• Moving apps: Position your mouse pointer over an app, then drag and drop it to a new location.

• Resizing apps: Right-click on an app, then click ‘Resize’ and select an app tile size.

• Unpinning apps: Right-click on an app, then click ‘Unpin from Start’.

• Pinning more apps to the Start menu: From ‘All apps’, right-click the app you want to add, then click ‘Pin to Start’.

• Pinning apps to the taskbar: Right-click on an app, then click ‘Pin to taskbar’.

Connecting to Wi-Fi:

1. Select the network icon from the taskbar.

2. Select the Wi-Fi icon to enable Wi-Fi.

3. Select an access point from the list of available Wi-Fi connections.

4. Select ‘Connect’ to start the network connection. You may be prompted to enter a security key.

Pairing with Bluetooth devices:

1. Launch ‘Settings’ from the Start menu.

2. Select ‘Devices’, then select ‘Bluetooth’ to search for Bluetooth-enabled devices.

3. Select a device from the list. Compare the passcode on your Notebook PC with the one sent to your device. If they match, select ‘Yes’ to pair.

Ensure a network cable is connected between your Notebook PC’s LAN port and a local area network.

Configuring a dynamic IP/PPPoE connection:

1. Launch ‘Settings’.

2. Select ‘Network & Internet’.

3. Select ‘Ethernet’ > ‘Network and Sharing Center’.

4. Select your LAN then select ‘Properties’.

5. Select ‘Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)’ then select ‘Properties’.

6. Select ‘Obtain an IP address automatically’ then select ‘OK’.

Configuring a static IP connection:

1. Repeat steps 1 to 5 from the dynamic IP configuration.

2. Select ‘Use the following IP address’.

3. Type the IP address, Subnet mask, and Default gateway from your service provider.

4. If needed, type the preferred and alternate DNS server addresses, then select ‘OK’.

Turning off your Notebook PC:

• Launch the Start menu, then select Power > ‘Shut down’.

• From the log-in screen, select Power > ‘Shut down’.

• Press ‘alt + F4’ to launch Shut Down Windows. Select ‘Shut Down’ from the drop-down list then select ‘OK’.

• If unresponsive, press and hold the power button for at least four (4) seconds.

Putting your Notebook PC to sleep:

• Launch the Start menu, then select Power > ‘Sleep’.

• From the log-in screen, select Power > ‘Sleep’.

• Press ‘alt + F4’ to launch Shut Down Windows. Select ‘Sleep’ from the drop-down list then select ‘OK’.

• You can also put the Notebook PC to sleep by pressing the power button once.

Use the ASUS FingerPrint app to create your fingerprint biometrics:

1. Launch the Apps screen then click on the ASUS FingerPrint icon.

2. Click ‘Register’ to create a new fingerprint account.

3. Key in your user account password then click ‘OK’.

4. Click the plus icon on the finger illustration that corresponds to the finger you want to use.

5. Swipe your designated finger twice on the fingerprint sensor.

6. The indicator boxes ‘1’ and ‘2’ will change to blue when the fingerprint is successfully captured. Click ‘Next’.

7. Create a boot key password in the next window to serve as backup access.

8. Click ‘Enable’ to activate using your fingerprint for system log on.

Accessing BIOS: Restart your ASUS PE552S and press ‘F2’ during the Power-On Self-Test (POST).

Changing Boot Priority:

1. On the ‘Boot’ screen, select ‘Boot Option #1’.

2. Press ‘Enter’ and select a device to be the first boot option.

Setting a Password:

1. On the ‘Security’ screen, select ‘Administrator Password’ or ‘User Password’.

2. Type in a password and press ‘Enter’.

3. Re-type the password to confirm and press ‘Enter’.

Saving and Exiting BIOS:

Navigate to the ‘Save & Exit’ screen and select ‘Save Changes and Exit’ to keep your configuration settings.

1. Verify the exact model of your ASUS PE552S and download the latest BIOS file for your model from the ASUS website.

2. Save a copy of the downloaded BIOS file to a flash disk drive.

3. Connect the flash disk drive to your Notebook PC.

4. Restart your Notebook PC and press ‘F2’ during POST to enter the BIOS menu.

5. From the BIOS menu, select ‘Advanced’ > ‘Start Easy Flash’, then press ‘Enter’.

6. Locate your downloaded BIOS file in the flash disk drive and press ‘Enter’ to start the update process.

Windows® 10 on your ASUS PE552S provides several recovery options:

• Keep my files: This option refreshes your Notebook PC to its default settings and deletes other installed apps, but does not affect your personal files (photos, music, documents).

• Remove everything: This option resets your Notebook PC to its factory settings. You must back up your data before using this option.

• Go back to an earlier build: This allows you to revert to a previous build of Windows if the current one is not working correctly.

• Advanced startup: This allows you to perform advanced recovery options, such as starting from a USB drive, System Restore, System Image Recovery, and more.

To access these options, launch ‘Settings’, select ‘Update and security’, then select ‘Recovery’ and choose the option you would like to perform.

Although these dots normally appear onscreen, they will not affect your system. If the incident continues and subsequently affects system performance, consult an authorized ASUS service center.

You can try any of the following suggestions:

• Use the function keys (fn + F5) to adjust the display brightness.

• If you are not using any Wi-Fi connection, switch your system into Airplane mode.

• Disconnect unused USB devices.

• Close unused applications, especially those that take up too much system memory.

• Check whether the power adapter or battery pack is attached correctly. You may also disconnect the power adapter or battery pack, wait for a minute, then reconnect them again to the power outlet and Notebook PC.

• If the problem still exists, contact your local ASUS service center for assistance.

Press ‘fn + F9’ to enable your touchpad.

You can try any of the following suggestions:

• Press ‘fn + F12’ to turn up the speaker volume.

• Check if your speakers were set to mute (press fn + F10).

• Check if a headphone jack is connected to your Notebook PC and remove it.

This happens when the number lock function for the embedded numeric keypad is active. Press the ‘num lk’ key or ‘fn + num lk’ (on selected models) on your ASUS PE552S to turn off this feature and use the keys for inputting letters.

You can try the following suggestions:

• Force shutdown your Notebook PC by pressing the power button for at least four (4) seconds. Check if the power adapter and battery pack are inserted correctly, then turn on your Notebook PC again.
