Please follow these safety guidelines when using your ASUS M701SER Desktop PC:

Disconnect the AC power and peripherals before cleaning. Wipe the Desktop PC using a clean cellulose sponge or chamois cloth dampened with a solution of nonabrasive detergent and a few drops of warm water, then remove any extra moisture with a dry cloth.

DO NOT place on uneven or unstable work surfaces. Seek servicing if the casing has been damaged.

DO NOT expose to dirty or dusty environments. DO NOT operate during a gas leak.

DO NOT place or drop objects on top and do not shove any foreign objects into the Desktop PC.

DO NOT expose to strong magnetic or electrical fields.

DO NOT expose to or use near liquids, rain, or moisture. DO NOT use the modem during electrical storms.

Battery safety warning: DO NOT throw the battery in fire. DO NOT short circuit the contacts. DO NOT disassemble the battery.

Use this product in environments with ambient temperatures between 5°C (41°F) and 35°C (95°F).

DO NOT cover the vents on the Desktop PC to prevent the system from getting overheated.

DO NOT use damaged power cords, accessories, or other peripherals.

To prevent electrical shock hazard, disconnect the power cable from the electrical outlet before relocating the system.

Seek professional assistance before using an adapter or extension cord. These devices could interrupt the grounding circuit.

Ensure that your power supply is set to the correct voltage in your area. If you are not sure about the voltage of the electrical outlet you are using, contact your local power company.

If the power supply is broken, do not try to fix it by yourself. Contact a qualified service technician or your retailer.

The Desktop PC is non-portable.

This product contains a coin / button cell battery. If the coin / button cell battery is swallowed, it can cause severe internal burns in just 2 hours and can lead to death. Keep new and used batteries away from children. If the battery compartment does not close securely, stop using the product and keep it away from children. If you think batteries might have been swallowed or placed inside any part of the body, seek immediate medical attention.

The front panel of the ASUS M701SER features the following components:

1. HDD indicator: The LED lights up or blinks to indicate the status of the HDD.

2. Power button: Press this button to turn on your computer.

3. Headphone port: This port connects to a headphone.

4. Audio combo jack: This port connects to a headphone or speaker. You can also connect your headset or an external microphone.

5. USB 2.0 ports: These Universal Serial Bus 2.0 ports connect to USB 2.0 devices such as a mouse, printer, scanner, camera, PDA, and others.

6. USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports: The Universal Serial Bus 3.2 Gen 2 ports connect to USB 3.2 Gen 2 devices such as a mouse, printer, scanner, camera, PDA, and others.

7. USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C® port: This port connects to USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C® devices. The output voltage is 5V, 3A.

8. SD card reader (optional): Insert an SD card into the slot.

9. Optical disk drive eject button: Press this button to eject the optical disk drive tray.

10. 5.25-inch optical disk drive bay (optional): An optical disk drive may be located in this bay.

The rear panel of the ASUS M701SER features the following ports:

1. VGA port: For VGA-compatible devices such as a VGA monitor.

2. DisplayPort: For DisplayPort-compatible devices.

3. HDMI™ port: For a High-Definition Multimedia Interface connector, compliant with HDCP for protected content playback.

4. Flex I/O port (optional): This can be an HDMI 2.1 TMDS port, DP 1.4 port, or VGA port.

5. USB 2.0 ports: Connects to USB 2.0 devices. When USB Wake is enabled in the BIOS, a connected mouse or keyboard can wake the system.

6. USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports: Connects to USB 3.2 Gen 1 devices.

7. Microphone port (pink): Connects to a microphone.

8. Line Out port (lime): Connects to a headphone or speaker. In 4, 5.1, or 7.1-channel configuration, this becomes the Front Speaker Out.

9. Line In port (light blue): Connects to a tape, CD, DVD player, or other audio sources.

10. Power connector: Plug the power cord into this connector.

11. Air vents: Allows for air ventilation. Do not block these vents.

12. Expansion slot brackets: Remove to install an expansion card.

13. Serial port (optional): A 9-pin COM port for pointing devices or other serial devices.

14. LAN (RJ-45) port: Allows a Gigabit connection to a Local Area Network (LAN).

The audio ports can be configured for different channel setups:

The LAN (RJ-45) port has two LEDs that indicate network status and speed. Here is what they mean:

To install memory in your ASUS M701SER, follow these steps:

1. Turn off your computer.

2. Unplug all cables from your computer.

3. Open your computer case.

4. Remove the graphics card if necessary.

5. Locate an empty DIMM socket.

6. Press down and outward on the DIMM ejector(s) to unlock the DIMM socket.

7. Align the notch on the bottom edge of the DIMM with the key of the DIMM socket, and then firmly insert the DIMM into the socket until the ejector(s) snap(s) back into place.

8. Install the graphics card if you removed it.

9. Close your computer case.

The ASUS M701SER has four DDR5 DIMM sockets, organized into Channel A (DIMM_A1, DIMM_A2) and Channel B (DIMM_B1, DIMM_B2). For system stability, follow this installation sequence:

Install DIMMs with the same capacity from the same manufacturer in the slots of the same channel. Here are some possible configurations:

To install a graphics card in your ASUS M701SER, follow these steps:

1. Turn off your computer.

2. Unplug all cables from your computer.

3. Open your computer case and locate the PCIEX16 slot.

4. Align the notch on your graphics card with the key of the slot, and then insert the card into the slot.

5. The ejector will snap back into place automatically.

6. Use a screwdriver and a screw to lock the graphics card on the chassis.

7. (Optional) Connect a proper power supply plug to the graphics card if it requires one.

This section guides you through connecting the main hardware devices to your ASUS M701SER.

Connecting an external monitor:

1. Connect a monitor to a display output port on the rear panel of your computer. If your computer has a separate ASUS Graphics Card, connect the monitor to a port on that card.

2. Plug the monitor into a power source.

Connecting a USB keyboard and mouse:

Connect a USB keyboard and a USB mouse to the USB ports on the rear panel of your computer.

Connecting the power cord:

Connect one end of the power cord to the power connector on the rear panel of your computer and the other end to a grounded electrical outlet.

To turn on your ASUS M701SER:

1. Turn your monitor ON.

2. Press the power button on your computer.

3. Wait until the operating system loads automatically.

To enable fast startup in Shutdown settings:

Enter Control Panel in the search bar and open it (View by: Category), select Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Choose what the power button does, click Change settings that are currently unavailable, check Turn on fast startup (recommended) and click Save changes.

If fast startup is disabled, when you shut down the computer, it shuts down to the S5 power state.

To connect a USB storage device to your ASUS M701SER, simply insert the USB storage device into any of the available USB ports on the front or rear panels. Your computer provides USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C®, USB 3.2 Gen 2, USB 3.2 Gen 1, and USB 2.0 ports.

Your ASUS M701SER has audio ports on both the front and rear panels that support 2-channel, 4-channel, 5.1-channel, and 7.1-channel stereo speakers.

Connecting Headphones and Mic:

You can connect headphones and a microphone to the audio combo jack on the front panel.

Connecting Speaker Systems:

Use the audio ports on the rear panel (Lime, Light Blue, Pink) to connect your speaker systems according to the multi-channel configuration table provided in the user guide.

Changing to External Audio Output:

1. Connect an external audio device such as an earphone or speaker to the rear Line Out port. The Audio Manager screen will automatically pop up.

2. Tick Front Speaker Out, then click OK.

3. If prompted again, tick Line In, then click OK. The audio output will now be from the external audio device.

To set up multiple displays on your ASUS M701SER:

1. Turn off your computer.

2. Connect two monitors to your computer’s display output ports and connect the power cords to the monitors.

3. Turn on your computer.

4. From the Start menu, click Settings > System > Display.

5. Configure the settings for your displays.

Note: For some graphics cards, only the monitor set as the primary display will show an image during POST. The dual display function works only under Windows.

To use the optional memory card reader:

1. Insert the memory card into the card slot. A memory card is keyed to fit in only one direction. Do not force it.

2. Select a program from the AutoPlay window to access your files. If AutoPlay is not enabled, open File Explorer and double-click the memory card icon.

3. When finished, right-click the memory card drive icon in the Computer screen, click Eject, and then remove the card. To prevent data loss, always use the “Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media” option in the notification area before removing the card.

To insert an optical disc:

1. While your system is on, press the eject button on the drive bay cover to open the tray.

2. Place the disc on the optical drive with the label side outward.

3. Push the tray gently to close it.

4. Select a program from the AutoPlay window to access your files.

To remove an optical disc:

1. While the system is on, do one of the following:

Press the eject button on the drive bay cover.

From the Start menu, click File Explorer, right-click the CD/DVD drive icon, and click Eject.

2. Remove the disc from the disc tray.

You can enable or disable the front and rear USB ports from the BIOS Setup.

1. Press <Delete> during startup to enter the BIOS Setup.

2. From the BIOS Setup EZ Mode screen, press <F7> to enter Advanced Mode.

3. In Advanced Mode, navigate to Advanced > Security > I/O Interface Security > USB Interface Security > USB Port Control.

4. Select the USB port that you want to enable or disable.

5. Press <Enter> to toggle the setting for the selected port.

6. Click Exit and select Save Changes & Reset to save the changes made.

To set a password for your HDD from the BIOS Setup:

1. Press <Delete> during startup to enter the BIOS Setup.

2. Press <F7> to enter Advanced Mode, then click Security > HDDx: [name of HDD] to open the HDD Password screen.

3. Select Set Master Password and press <Enter>.

4. In the Create New Password box, key in a password, then press <Enter>.

5. Confirm the password when prompted.

6. Select Set User Password and press <Enter>.

7. Follow steps 4 and 5 to set the user password.

8. Click Exit and select Save Changes & Reset.

To change the password for your HDD from the BIOS Setup:

1. Follow steps 1 and 2 from the previous section.

2. Select Set Master Password and press <Enter>.

3. In the Enter Current Password box, key in the current password, then press <Enter>.

4. In the Create New Password box, key in a new password, then press <Enter>.

5. Confirm the password when prompted.

6. Click Exit and select Save Changes & Reset.

To enable a keyboard or mouse to wake up your computer from the BIOS (on selected models):

1. Restart your computer. When the ASUS logo appears, press <Delete> to enter the BIOS Setup.

2. From the BIOS Setup EZ Mode screen, press <F7> to enter Advanced Mode. From the Advanced Mode screen, click Advanced.

3. Go to Advanced Power Management > ErP Support / ErP Ready, then select Disable or Enable (S5).

4. Go to Advanced Power Management > Power On By USB Keyboard/Mouse, then select Enable.

5. Click Exit and select Save Changes & Reset to save the changes made.

Connecting via a DSL/cable modem:

1. Set up your DSL/cable modem according to its documentation.

2. Connect one end of an RJ-45 cable to the LAN (RJ-45) port on the rear panel of your computer and the other end to a DSL/cable modem.

3. Turn on the DSL/cable modem and your computer.

4. Configure the necessary Internet connection settings.

Connecting via a local area network (LAN):

Connect one end of an RJ-45 cable to the LAN (RJ-45) port on the rear panel of your computer and the other end to your LAN connection point (e.g., a wall jack or router).

1. Launch Network and Sharing Center. You can do this by right-clicking the network icon in the taskbar and selecting it, or by navigating through Settings > Network & Internet > Ethernet > Network and Sharing Center.

2. From the Network and Sharing Center screen, click Change Adapter settings.

3. Right-click on your LAN connection and select Properties.

4. Click Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.

5. Click Obtain an IP address automatically and click OK.

6. If you are using PPPoE, return to the Network and Sharing Center and click Set up a new connection or network.

7. Select Connect to the Internet and click Next.

8. Select Broadband (PPPoE) and click Next.

9. Follow the next onscreen instructions to complete the setup.

1. Follow steps 1 to 4 of the dynamic IP configuration to open the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties window.

2. Click Use the following IP address.

3. Enter the IP address, Subnet mask, and Gateway from your service provider.

4. If needed, enter the preferred DNS Server address and alternative address.

5. When done, click OK.

When you start your computer for the first time, a series of screens appear to guide you in configuring your Windows® operating system. Follow the onscreen instructions to configure the following basic items:

Settings

Your account

After configuring the basic items, Windows® proceeds to install your apps and preferred settings. Ensure that your computer is kept powered on during the setup process. Once the setup process is complete, the Desktop appears.

Launching the Start menu:

You can launch the Start menu in two ways:

Position your mouse pointer over the Start icon on your desktop then click it.

Press the Windows® logo key on your keyboard.

Opening programs from the Start menu:

You can open programs in two ways:

Position your mouse pointer over the program then click to launch it.

Use the arrow keys to browse through the programs. Press enter to launch it.

Connecting to Wi-Fi:

1. Click/Tap the Wi-Fi icon from the taskbar to enable Wi-Fi.

2. Select an access point from the list of available Wi-Fi connections.

3. Select Connect to start the network connection. You may be prompted to enter a security key.

Pairing with Bluetooth devices:

1. Launch Settings from the Start menu.

2. Select Bluetooth & devices > Add device to search for Bluetooth-enabled devices (for Windows® 11).

3. Select a device from the list to pair your computer with the device.

Turning your computer off:

Launch the Start menu, select the power icon then select Shut down.

From the log-in screen, select the power icon then select Shut down.

Press alt + f4 to launch Shut Down Windows. Select Shut down from the drop-down list then select OK.

If your computer is unresponsive, press and hold the power button for at least four (4) seconds until your computer turns off.

Putting your computer to sleep:

Launch the Start menu, select the power icon then select Sleep.

From the log-in screen, select the power icon then select Sleep.

Press alt + f4 to launch Shut Down Windows. Select Sleep from the drop-down list then select OK.

You can also put your computer to Sleep mode by pressing the power button once.

Check if your computer is properly connected.

Check if the wall outlet is functioning.

Check if the Power Supply Unit is switched on.

Do the following to close the programs that are not responding:

1. Simultaneously press <Alt> + <Ctrl> + <Delete> keys on the keyboard, then click Task Manager.

2. Select the program that is not responding, then click End Task.

If the keyboard is not responding, press and hold the Power button on your chassis until the computer shuts down. Then press the Power button to turn it on.

Ensure that you enter the correct network security key for the wireless network you want to connect to.

Connect the external antennas (optional) to the antenna connectors on the ASUS WLAN Card and place the antennas on the top of your computer chassis for the best wireless performance.

Check if the Number Lock LED is off. When the Number Lock LED is on, the keys on the number key pad are used to input numbers only. Press the Number Lock key to turn the LED off if you want to use the arrow keys on the number key pad.

Check if the monitor is powered on.

Ensure that your monitor is properly connected to the video output port on your computer.

If your computer comes with a discrete graphics card, ensure that you connect your monitor to a video output port on the discrete graphics card.

Check if any of the pins on the monitor video connector is bent. If you discover bent pins, replace the monitor video connector cable.

Check if your monitor is plugged into a power source properly.

Refer to the documentation that came with your monitor for more troubleshooting information.

Ensure that both monitors are powered on.

During POST, only the monitor connected to the VGA port has a display. The dual display function works only under Windows.

When a graphics card is installed on your computer, ensure that you connect the monitors to the output port on the graphics card.

Check if the multiple displays settings are correct.

The first time you connect your USB storage device to your computer, Windows automatically installs a driver for it. Wait for a while and go to My Computer to check if the USB storage device is detected.

Connect your USB storage device to another computer to test if the USB storage device is broken or malfunctions.

You can use the Windows® 11 “Refresh your PC without affecting your files” recovery option. To use this recovery option, click Settings > Update & recovery > Recovery from the Start menu, select Refresh your PC without affecting your files, and click Get started.

This is caused by the different resolutions of your monitor and your HDTV. Adjust the screen resolution to fit your HDTV. To change the screen resolution: From the Start menu, click Settings > System > Display.

Ensure that you connect your speakers to the Line out port (lime) on the front panel or the rear panel.

Check if your speaker is connected to an electrical source and turned on.

Adjust your speakers’ volume.

Ensure that your computer’s system sounds are not Muted. If it is muted, the volume icon will be displayed with a red cross. Click the icon to unmute and adjust the volume.

Connect your speakers to another computer to test if the speakers are working properly.

Check if the disc is placed with the label side facing up.

Check if the disc is centered in the tray, especially for discs with non-standard size or shape.

Check if the disc is scratched or damaged.

1. From the Start menu, click File Explorer.

2. Right-click the DVD RW Drive icon, then click Eject from the menu.
