The front panel of the ASUS D701SERC includes the following components:

1. HDD indicator: The LED lights up or blinks to indicate the status of the HDD.

2. Power button: Press this button to turn on your computer.

3. Headphone port: This port connects to a headphone.

4. Audio combo jack: This port connects to a headphone or speaker. You can also connect your headset or an external microphone.

5. USB 2.0 ports: These Universal Serial Bus 2.0 ports connect to USB 2.0 devices such as a mouse, printer, scanner, camera, PDA, and others.

6. USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports: The Universal Serial Bus 3.2 Gen 2 ports connect to USB 3.2 Gen 2 devices such as a mouse, printer, scanner, camera, PDA, and others.

7. USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C® port: The Universal Serial Bus 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C® port connects to USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C® devices. The output voltage is 5V, 3A.

8. SD card reader (optional): Insert an SD card into the slot.

9. Optical disk drive eject button: Press this button to eject the optical disk drive tray.

10. 5.25-inch optical disk drive bay (optional): There is an optical disk drive in this bay.

The rear panel of the ASUS D701SERC includes the following ports and features:

1. VGA port: For VGA-compatible devices such as a VGA monitor.

2. DisplayPort: For DisplayPort-compatible devices.

3. HDMI™ port: For a High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI™) connector, and is HDCP compliant.

4. Flex I/O port (optional): This is an HDMI 2.1 TMDS port, DP 1.4 port, or VGA port.

5. USB 2.0 ports: Connects to USB 2.0 devices. When USB Wake is enabled in the BIOS, a USB mouse or keyboard connected to this port can wake the system.

6. USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports: Connects to USB 3.2 Gen 1 devices.

7. Microphone port (pink): Connects to a microphone.

8. Line Out port (lime): Connects to a headphone or speaker. In a 4, 5.1, or 7.1-channel configuration, this becomes Front Speaker Out.

9. Line In port (light blue): Connects to a tape, CD, DVD player, or other audio sources.

10. Power connector: Plug the power cord here.

11. Air vents: These vents allow for air ventilation. Do not block them.

12. Expansion slot brackets: Remove these brackets when installing an expansion card.

13. Serial port (optional): This 9-pin COM port is for pointing devices or other serial devices.

14. LAN (RJ-45) port: Allows Gigabit connection to a Local Area Network (LAN).

The function of the audio ports on your ASUS D701SERC changes depending on the speaker setup. Refer to the table below for details.

The LAN port on your ASUS D701SERC has two LEDs that indicate the connection status and speed.

The ASUS D701SERC has four DDR5 DIMM sockets, divided into two channels (A and B). For system stability, follow the recommended installation sequence.

Channel Sockets:

• Channel A: DIMM_A1 & DIMM_A2

• Channel B: DIMM_B1 & DIMM_B2

Recommended Installation Sequence:

Install DIMMs with the same capacity from the same manufacturer in the slots of the same channel.

Supported Memory Configurations:

To install memory in your ASUS D701SERC, follow these steps:

1. Turn off your computer.

2. Unplug all cables from your computer.

3. Open your computer case.

4. Remove the graphics card, if necessary, to access the memory slots.

5. Locate an empty DIMM socket.

6. Press down and outward on the DIMM ejector(s) to unlock the DIMM socket.

7. Align the notch on the bottom edge of the DIMM with the key of the DIMM socket, and then firmly insert the DIMM into the socket until the ejector(s) snap(s) back into place.

8. Install the graphics card back if you removed it.

9. Close your computer case.

To install a graphics card in your ASUS D701SERC, follow these steps:

1. Turn off your computer.

2. Unplug all cables from your computer.

3. Open your computer case and locate the PCIEX16 slot.

4. Align the notch on your graphics card with the key of the slot, and then insert the card into the slot.

5. The ejector will snap back into place automatically.

6. Use a screwdriver and a screw to lock the graphics card on the chassis.

7. (Optional) Connect a proper power supply plug to the graphics card if it requires one.

To set up your ASUS D701SERC, connect the main hardware devices as follows:

1. Connect an external monitor:

• Connect a monitor to a display output port (VGA, HDMI™, or DisplayPort) on the rear panel of your computer. If your computer has a discrete ASUS Graphics Card, connect the monitor to a display output port on that card.

• Plug the monitor into a power source.

2. Connect a USB keyboard and mouse:

• Connect a USB keyboard and a USB mouse to the USB ports on the rear panel of your computer.

3. Connect the power cord:

• Connect one end of the power cord to the power connector on the rear panel of your computer and the other end to a grounded electrical outlet.

To turn on your ASUS D701SERC:

1. Turn your monitor ON.

2. Press the power button on the front panel of your computer.

3. Wait until the operating system loads automatically.

To enable fast startup in Shutdown settings on your ASUS D701SERC:

1. Enter Control Panel in the search bar and open it (View by: Category).

2. Select Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Choose what the power button does.

3. Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.

4. Check Turn on fast startup (recommended) and click Save changes.

If fast startup is disabled, when you shut down the computer, it shuts down to the S5 power state.

Connecting a USB Storage Device:

Simply insert the USB storage device into any available USB port on the front or rear panels of your ASUS D701SERC.

Connecting Microphone and Speakers:

Your desktop PC has audio ports on the front and rear panels for various setups.

• Connecting Headphone and Mic: Use the audio combo jack on the front panel for a headset with a microphone, or the separate headphone port and microphone port.

• Connecting 2-channel Speakers: Connect your speakers to the lime Line Out port on the rear panel.

• Connecting 4-channel Speakers: Connect the front speakers to the lime Line Out port and the rear speakers to the light blue Line In port on the rear panel.

• Connecting 5.1-channel Speakers: Connect the front speakers to the lime Line Out port, rear speakers to the light blue Line In port, and the center/subwoofer to the pink Microphone port on the rear panel.

• Connecting 7.1-channel Speakers: Connect the front speakers to the lime Line Out port, rear speakers to the light blue Line In port, center/subwoofer to the pink Microphone port on the rear panel, and the side speakers to the front panel’s audio port.

To change to the external audio output on your ASUS D701SERC:

1. Connect an external audio device such as an earphone or speaker to the rear Line Out port. The Audio Manager screen will automatically pop up.

2. Tick Front Speaker Out, then click OK.

3. The audio output will now be from the external audio device. When you disconnect the device, you may need to manually change the audio output back to the internal speaker from the Control Panel.

To set up multiple displays on your ASUS D701SERC:

1. Turn off your computer.

2. Connect two monitors to the display output ports on your computer and connect the power cords to the monitors.

3. Turn on your computer.

4. From the Start menu, click Settings > System > Display.

5. Configure the settings for your displays. You can choose to duplicate the displays or extend your desktop across them.

Note: For some graphics cards, only the primary display will show an image during POST. The dual display function works only under Windows.

To maintain proper posture and avoid physical discomfort while using your ASUS D701SERC, follow these tips:

• Position your chair so your elbows are at or slightly above the keyboard.

• Adjust your chair height so your knees are slightly higher than your hips. Use a footrest if necessary.

• Adjust the chair back to firmly support the base of your spine at a slightly backward angle.

• Sit upright with your knees, elbows, and hips at an approximate 90° angle.

• Place the monitor directly in front of you, with the top of the screen at eye level so you look slightly downward.

• Keep the mouse close to the keyboard and use a wrist rest if needed.

• Use your PC in a comfortably-lit area, away from sources of glare.

• Take regular mini-breaks.

To use the optional memory card reader on your ASUS D701SERC:

1. Insert the memory card into the correct card slot. The card is keyed to fit in only one direction; do not force it.

2. Select a program from the AutoPlay window to access your files. If AutoPlay is not enabled, open File Explorer from the Start menu and double-click the memory card icon.

3. When finished, right-click the memory card drive icon in File Explorer, click Eject, and then remove the card. To prevent data loss, always use the “Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media” function in the Windows notification area before removing the card.

To use the optical drive on selected models of the ASUS D701SERC:

Inserting an optical disc:

1. While the system is on, press the eject button on the drive bay cover to open the tray.

2. Place the disc on the tray with the label side facing outward.

3. Gently push the tray to close it.

4. Select a program from the AutoPlay window to access the files on the disc.

Removing an optical disc:

1. While the system is on, do one of the following to eject the tray:

• Press the eject button on the drive bay cover.

• From the Start menu, click File Explorer, right-click the CD/DVD drive icon, and click Eject.

2. Remove the disc from the disc tray.

To configure the USB ports from the BIOS Setup on your ASUS D701SERC:

1. Press <Delete> during startup to enter the BIOS Setup.

2. From the BIOS Setup EZ Mode screen, press <F7> to enter the Advanced Mode.

3. Navigate to Advanced > I/O Interface Security > USB Interface Security > USB Port Control.

4. Select the specific USB port you want to configure.

5. Press <Enter> to enable or disable the selected port.

6. Go to the Exit tab and select Save Changes & Reset to save your changes.

To set a password for your HDD from the BIOS Setup:

1. Press <Delete> during startup to enter the BIOS Setup.

2. From the EZ Mode screen, press <F7> to enter Advanced Mode.

3. Go to Security > HDDx: [name of HDD] to open the HDD Password screen.

4. Select Set Master Password and press <Enter>.

5. In the Create New Password box, key in a password and press <Enter>. Confirm the password when prompted.

6. Select Set User Password and press <Enter>. Follow the prompts to set the user password.

7. Go to the Exit tab and select Save Changes & Reset.

To change the password for your HDD:

1. Follow steps 1-3 from above to open the HDD Password screen.

2. Select Set Master Password and press <Enter>.

3. In the Enter Current Password box, key in the current password and press <Enter>.

4. In the Create New Password box, key in a new password and press <Enter>. Confirm when prompted.

5. Go to the Exit tab and select Save Changes & Reset.

To clear a password, follow the steps for changing it, but press <Enter> at the create/confirm prompt to leave it blank.

To enable the wake-up feature for a keyboard or mouse on your ASUS D701SERC (on selected models only):

1. Restart your computer and press <Delete> when the ASUS logo appears to enter the BIOS Setup.

2. From the EZ Mode screen, press <F7> to enter Advanced Mode.

3. Go to Advanced > APM Configuration.

4. Set ErP Ready to Disabled.

5. Go to Power On By PS/2 Keyboard/Mouse or similar option and set it to Enabled.

6. Go to the Exit tab and select Save Changes & Reset.

You can connect your ASUS D701SERC to a wired network using an RJ-45 cable.

Connecting via a DSL/cable modem:

1. Set up your DSL/cable modem according to its documentation.

2. Connect one end of an RJ-45 cable to the LAN (RJ-45) port on the rear panel of your computer and the other end to the modem.

3. Turn on the modem and your computer.

4. Configure the necessary Internet connection settings.

Connecting via a local area network (LAN):

1. Connect one end of an RJ-45 cable to the LAN (RJ-45) port on your computer and the other end to your LAN (e.g., a wall jack or router).

2. Turn on your computer.

3. Configure the necessary Internet connection settings.

To configure a dynamic IP/PPPoE network connection:

1. Launch Network and Sharing Center (either by right-clicking the network icon in the taskbar or via Start menu > Settings > Network & Internet > Ethernet > Network and Sharing Center).

2. Click Change adapter settings.

3. Right-click on your LAN connection and select Properties.

4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.

5. Select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically, then click OK.

6. If you are using PPPoE, return to the Network and Sharing Center, click Set up a new connection or network, select Connect to the Internet, click Next, select Broadband (PPPoE), and follow the onscreen instructions.

To configure a static IP network connection:

1. Follow steps 1-4 from the dynamic IP configuration.

2. Select Use the following IP address.

3. Enter the IP address, Subnet mask, and Default gateway provided by your service provider.

4. If needed, select Use the following DNS server addresses and enter the Preferred and Alternate DNS server addresses.

5. When done, click OK.

If your ASUS D701SERC won’t power on:

• Check if your computer is properly connected to the power outlet.

• Check if the wall outlet is functioning by plugging in another device.

• Check if the Power Supply Unit switch (if available) is turned on.

If your ASUS D701SERC computer hangs:

• Try to close the unresponsive program: Simultaneously press <Alt> + <Ctrl> + <Delete> keys, then click Task Manager. Select the program that is not responding, then click End Task.

• If the keyboard is not responding, press and hold the Power button on your chassis until the computer shuts down. Then press the Power button again to turn it on.

If there is no display on your monitor:

• Check if the monitor is powered on.

• Ensure your monitor is properly connected to the correct video output port on your computer. If your computer has a discrete graphics card, ensure you connect the monitor to a port on the graphics card, not the motherboard.

• Check if any pins on the monitor video connector are bent. If so, replace the cable.

• Ensure your monitor is plugged into a power source properly.

• When using multiple monitors, ensure both are powered on. During POST, only the primary monitor may have a display. If a graphics card is installed, ensure monitors are connected to its output ports.

• Try connecting to another monitor to see if the issue is with the original monitor.

If your computer cannot detect a USB storage device:

• The first time you connect a USB storage device, Windows automatically installs a driver for it. Wait a moment and check File Explorer to see if the device is detected.

• Connect your USB storage device to another computer to test if the device itself is broken or malfunctioning.

You can use the Windows 11 Refresh your PC without affecting your files recovery option. To use this option, click Settings > Update & recovery > Recovery from the Start menu, select Refresh your PC without affecting your files, and click Get started.

If there is no sound from your speakers:

• Ensure you connect your speakers to the Line out port (lime) on the front or rear panel.

• Check if your speaker is connected to an electrical source and turned on.

• Adjust your speakers’ volume.

• Ensure that your computer’s system sounds are not Muted. If the volume icon is muted, click it in the Windows notification area to enable sound.

• Connect your speakers to another computer to test if they are working properly.

• Try both the front and back audio ports. If one fails, check if the port is set to multi-channel.

• If the problem persists, try reinstalling the audio driver.

If the DVD drive cannot read a disc:

• Check if the disc is placed with the label side facing up.

• Check if the disc is centered in the tray, especially for non-standard size or shape discs.

• Check if the disc is scratched or damaged.

If the DVD drive eject button is not responding:

1. From the Start menu, click File Explorer.

2. Right-click the DVD RW Drive icon, then click Eject from the menu.

If your system is performing poorly, consider the following possible causes and solutions:

If your computer is too noisy, consider these points:

Turning your computer off:

• Launch the Start menu, select the power icon, then select Shut down.

• From the log-in screen, select the power icon then select Shut down.

• Press alt + f4 to launch the Shut Down Windows dialog, select Shut down, then select OK.

• If your computer is unresponsive, press and hold the power button for at least four (4) seconds.

Putting your computer to sleep:

• Launch the Start menu, select the power icon, then select Sleep.

• From the log-in screen, select the power icon then select Sleep.

• Press alt + f4, select Sleep from the drop-down list, then select OK.

• You can also put your computer to Sleep mode by pressing the power button once (if configured in power options).
