****** Page 4 ****** Safety information Before setting up the monitor, carefully read all the documentation that came with the package. To prevent fire or shock hazard, never expose the monitor to rain or moisture. Never try to open the monitor cabinet. The dangerous high voltages inside the monitor may result in serious physical injury. If the power supply is broken, do not try to fix it by yourself. Contact a qualified service technician or your retailer. Before using the product, make sure all cables are correctly connected and the power cables are not damaged. If you detect any damage, contact your dealer immediately. Slots and openings on the back or top of the cabinet are provided for ventilation. Do not block these slots. Never place this product near or over a radiator or heat source unless proper ventilation is provided. The monitor should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the label. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your dealer or local power company. Use the appropriate power plug which complies with your local power standard. Do not overload power strips and extention cords. Overloading can result in fire or electric shock. Avoid dust, humidity, and temperature extremes. Do not place the monitor in any area where it may become wet. Place the monitor on a stable surface. Unplug the unit during a lightning storm or if it will not be used for a long period of time. This will protect the monitor from damage due to power surges. Never push objects or spill liquid of any kind into the slots on the monitor cabinet. To ensure satisfactory operation, use the monitor only with UL listed computers which have appropriate configured receptacles marked beween 100-240V AC. If you encounter technical problems with the monitor, contact a qualified service technician or your retailer. ****** Page 5 ****** Care & Cleaning Before you lift or reposition your monitor, it is better to disconnect the cables and power cord. Follow the correct lifting techniques when positioning the monitor. When lifting or carrying the monitor, grasp the edges of the monitor. Do not lift the display by the stand or the cord. Cleaning. Turn your monitor off and unplug the power cord. Clean the monitor surface with a lint-free, non-abrasive cloth. Stubborn stains may be removed with a cloth dampened with mild cleaner. Avoid using a cleaner containing alcohol or acetone. Use a cleaner intended for use with the monitor. Never spray cleaner directly on the screen, as it may drip inside the monitor and cause an electric shock. The following symptoms are normal with the monitor: The screen may flicker during the initial use due to the nature of the fluorescent light. Turn off the Power Switch and turn it on again to make sure that the flicker disappears. You may find slightly uneven brightness on the screen depending on the desktop pattern you use. When the same image is displayed for hours, an afterimage of the previous screen may remain after switching the image. The screen will recover slowly or you can turn off the Power Switch for hours. When the screen becomes black or flashes, or cannot work anymore, contact your dealer or service center to fix it. Do not repair the screen by yourself! ****** Page 11 ****** 2.1 Assembling the monitor base To assemble the monitor base: Have the front of the monitor face down on a table. 2. Assemble the base and the arm by aligning the arrow marks on the base and the arm. Fix the base to the arm by fastening the bundled screw. 3. We recommend that you cover the table surface with soft cloth to prevent damage to the monitor. O 2.2 Adjusting the monitor For optimal viewing, we recommend that you look at the full face of the monitor, then adjust the monitor to the angle that is most comfortable for you. Hold the stand to prevent the monitor from falling when you change its angle. The recommended adjusting angle from -50 to 200 It is normal that the monitor slightly shakes while you adjust the the viewing angle. ASUS VE247NE248NE249 Series LED Monitor 2-1

****** Page 12 ****** 2.3 Detaching the arm/base (for VESA wall mount) The detachable arm/base of this LED monitor is specially designed for VESA wall mount. To detach the arm/base: 2. 3. 2-2 Have the front of the monitor face down on a table. Remove the rubbers in the four screw holes (Figure 1). Use a screwdriver to remove the two screws on the arm (Figure 2), then slide out the arm/base to detach it from the monitor (Figure 2). Connect the cables as the following instructions: VE247H/ VE248H/ VE249H AC-IN VE247T/ VE248T VE247 VE248S AC-IN Earphone jack DVI Audio-in HDMI VGA DVI VGA To connect the audio cable: connect one end of the audio cable to the monitor’s Audio-in port, the other end to the computer’s audio-out port. To connect the power cord: connect one end of the power cord securely to the monitor’s AC input port, the other end to a power outlet. To connect the VGA/DVI/HDMI cable: a. b. c. Plug the VGA/DV I/HDMI connector to the LED monitor’s VGA/DVI/HDMI port. Connect the other end of the VGA/DVI/HDMI cable to your computer’s VGA/DVI/HDMI. Tighten the two screws to secure the VGA/DVI connector. 2. To use earphones: connect the end with plug type to the monitor’s earphone jack. When these cables are connected, you can choose the desired signal from the Input Select item of the OSD functions. Gather all the cables with the cable management slot. ****** Page 15 ****** 3.1 3.1.1 OSD (On-Screen Display) menu How to reconfigure Press the MENU button to activate the OSD menu. Splendid 2. 3. 4. Press O/ V, and A to navigate through the functions. Highlight and activate the desired function by pressing the MENU button. If the function selected has a sub-menu, press o/ v, and # / A again to navigate through the sub-menu functions. Highlight and activate the desired sub-menu function by pressing the MENU button. Press O/ V, and A to change the settings of the selected function. To exit the OSD menu, press the 0/4 or button. Repeat step 2 and step 3 to adjust any other function. 3.1.2 OSD Function Introduction 1. Spendid This function contains five sub-functions you can select for your preference. Each mode has the Reset selection, allowing you to maintain your setting or return to the Splendid e set preset mode. Scenery Mode: best choice for scenery photo display with SPLENDIDTM Video Enhancement. Standard Mode: best choice for document editing with SPLENDIDTM Video Enhancement. Theater Mode: best choice for movie with SPLENDIDTM Video Enhancement. Game Mode: best choice for game playing with SPLENDIDTM Video Enhancement. Night View Mode: best choice for dark-scene game or movie with SPLENDIDTM Video Enhancement. In the Standard Mode, the Saturation and Sharpness functions are not user-configurable, In the other modes, the sRGB function is not user-configurable. ASUS VE247NE248NE249 Series LED Monitor 3-1

****** Page 16 ****** 2. 3. Image You can adjust brightness, contrast, sharpness, saturation, position (VGA only), and focus (VGA only) from this menu. I mage ‘C on trast ASCR Saturation Position MEW@ S;Exit Brightness: the adjusting range is from 0 to 100.#1 is a hotkey to activate this function. Contrast: the adjusting range is from 0 to 100. ASCR: turns on/off the ASCR (ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio) function. Sharpness: the adjusting range is from 0 to 100. Saturation: the adjusting range is from 0 to 100. Position: adjusts the horizontal position (H-Position) and the vertical position (V-Position) of the image. The adjusting range is from 0 to 100. Focus: reduces Horizonal-line noise and Vertical-line noise of the image by adjusting (Phase) and (Clock) separately. The adjusting range is from O to 100. Phase adjusts the phase of the pixel clock signal. With a wrong phase adjustment, the screen shows horizontal disturbanæs. Clock (pixel frequency) controls the number of pixels scanned by one horizontal sweep. If the frequency is not correct, the screen shows vertical stripes and the image is not proportional. Color Select the image color you like from this function. Color Skin Tone S] Exit 3-2 Color Temp.: contains five color modes including Cool, Normal, Warm, sRGB, and User mode. Skin Tone: contains three color modes including Reddish, Natural, and Yellowish. In the User mode, colors of R (Red), G (Green), and B (Blue) are user- configurable; the adjusting range is from 0-100. Chapter 3: General Instruction

Input Select DVI System Setup Volume Aspect Control OSU setup Language Information Menu: S: Exit 54 Splendid Demo Mode: turns on/off ASUS Splendid Demo function. Volume: the adjusting range is from 0 to 100. O/ V is a hotkey to activate this function. Aspect Control: adjusts the aspect ratio to full or 4:3. OSD setup: Adjusts the horizontal postition (H-Position)/the vertical position (V-Position) of the OSD from 0 to 100. Adjusts the OSD timeout from 10 to 120. Enables or disables the DDC/CI function. Language: there are 11 languages for your selection, including English, German, Italian, French, Dutch, Spanish, Russian, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Inspect the signal cable and make sure none of the pins are bent. Connect the computer with another available monitor to check if the computer is properly working. • Adjust the Contrast and Brightness settings via OSD. • Press the or button for seconds to automatically adjust the image. (for VGA mode only) Adjust the H-Position or V-Position settings via OSD. Make sure the signal cable is properly connected to the monitor and the computer. • Move electrical devices that may cause electrical interference. Inspect the signal cable and make sure that none of the pins are bent.
