Are there specific washing tips for different fabrics?
- Dyed Cotton:** Wash first time at 60°C to remove excess dye. Use bleach-free detergent to maintain colour.
- Unbleached Linen:** Wash at 60°C with detergent free of bleach/optical brighteners. Heavy soil can occasionally be washed hotter, but this may affect sheen/strength over time.
- Wool:** Use the Wool/Hand Wash program, which is very gentle. Wool is sensitive; if you don’t want spinning, select a ‘no spin’ setting. Most items tolerate a short spin cycle (max 800 rpm on this program).
- Viscose and Synthetic Fibres:** These are sensitive and need space. Fill drum only half full. Choose a program with max 1200 rpm spin speed. Note: Viscose and acetates are fragile when wet.
How can I reduce allergic reactions when washing?
How can I save time and energy while washing?
- Use the Everyday Wash/Universal wash program. It has a shorter main wash cycle than Standard Cotton/Cotton and is often sufficient for less soiled laundry.
- Avoid high temperatures; this saves significant energy.
- Use the Quick program for refreshing laundry, or the Time program to set a specific duration. This saves water and power.
- Selecting the maximum spin speed reduces energy consumption if you plan to use a tumble dryer or drying cabinet.
- Wash full loads when using programs like Heavy, Everyday Wash/Universal, and Standard Cotton/Cotton.
- Avoid prewash unless laundry is heavily soiled. Modern detergents are often effective without it. Use the Prewash extra function if needed.

Water hardness can be measured with a water hardness indicator (available in a pharmacy) or checked with your local water supply company or authority.
Water hardness is specified using the German scale (°dH) and the French scale (°fH). Water supplies with hardness over 6°dH (9°fH) must be softened, which is done automatically by the built-in water softener. Adjust the softener setting to match your local water hardness for optimal function.
Use the table below to understand the levels:
| Water hardness | °dH (°N) | m mol/l | °fH (°F) | p.p.m. |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 – soft | < 8,4 | < 1,5 | < 15 | < 150 |
| 2 – normal | 8,4 – 14 | 1,5 – 2,5 | 15 – 25 | 150 – 250 |
| 3 – hard | > 14 | > 2,5 | > 25 | > 250 |
How do I use the water hardness test strip?

Washing at low temperatures can lead to residue build-up inside the machine, potentially causing odours. To avoid this, run the self-cleaning program (Drum Cleaning) once per month.
- Ensure the drum is empty.
- Select the “Drum Cleaning” program (refer to program list/settings).
- Start the program.
This program typically uses high temperatures to clean the drum and internal parts.
How do I clean the rinsing holes under the agitator rib in the drum?
If you suspect objects like nails or paper clips have fallen into the drum, check under the removable agitator ribs, as these objects can rust and stain clothes or cause fabric damage.
- Locate the rib: Identify one of the agitator ribs inside the drum.
- Release the rib: Insert a screwdriver or similar tool into the slot on the rib and carefully push it towards the left (relative to facing the slot).
- Remove the rib: Hold the rib with your other hand and pull it towards you, lifting it out of its slot.
- Inspect and remove objects: Check the area underneath where the rib was located and remove any foreign objects.
- Replace the rib: Place the rib back into its installation slot, ensuring the end marked “F” is oriented towards you. Make sure the rib sits firmly in its respective slots in the drum. Push the rib inwards (as indicated by the arrow in the figure) until it snaps securely into place.
- Repeat for other ribs if necessary.
How do I remove limescale build-up (greyish-white film) if I have hard water?
If you use hard water, limescale can build up, appearing as a greyish-white film on the drum.
- Ensure the drum is empty.
- Add approximately 2 dl (200 ml) of white vinegar OR 1 tablespoon (15 g) of sodium bicarbonate (“baking soda”) directly into the washing machine drum.
- Select any program with a temperature of 90°C, OR select the “Drum Cleaning” program.
- Start the program.
- Repeat the process if necessary.
You can also adjust the machine’s water hardness setting under “SETTINGS / Water / Water Hardness” to help optimize softening.
What should I do if the washing machine door does not open?
This could be due to:
- Water level too high: Drain the water using the Drain or Spinning program. See “STEP 5: Choose the program”.
- Water temperature too high: Wait for the water temperature to drop. The machine usually pumps out the water automatically when safe. If the door still doesn’t open after cooling and draining, you may need to use the emergency door opening tool (see “Manual opening of washing machine door” instructions).
Refer to error code E23 if displayed.
What should I do if the washing program is not in progress?
Check the following:
- Door not closed properly: Firmly press on the washing machine door until you hear two clicks, indicating it is securely closed.
- No power: Check if the plug is connected to the power outlet and ensure there is electric current (voltage) in the outlet (e.g., test with another device).
Why is the washing time longer than anticipated?
The displayed washing time can be adjusted by the machine based on conditions. It might be longer due to:
- Delayed start selected: If you set a delayed start, the program won’t begin immediately. To cancel the delay, press and hold the Start button for three seconds.
- Low inlet water temperature: Colder water takes longer to heat, extending program duration (can be up to 60% longer than initially estimated).
- Unbalance detection (UKS): If the laundry is unevenly distributed, the machine attempts to redistribute it, adding time. Ensure laundry is loaded loosely.
- Low mains voltage: Lower voltage can make heating and motor operation take longer.
- Power supply failure: If power was interrupted, the machine might extend the cycle upon restart to compensate.
- Load sensing: Advanced technology senses the load amount and adjusts water and time. Larger loads or specific fabrics might require more time than initially estimated.
See also: “Adjustment of the displayed washing time”.
What should I do if the display does not light up?
Check if there is power to the appliance:
- Ensure the plug is connected securely to the power outlet.
- Verify that there is electric current (voltage) in the outlet by testing it with another device.
- Check your home’s circuit breakers or fuses.
Why is the text on the display unit not in my language?
You have likely not selected your preferred language yet.
- Navigate through the settings menu to find the language selection option (e.g., “STEP 5 / Settings / Choosing the language” – path may vary slightly).
- Select your preferred language from the list.
What should I do if the laundry is wet or unbalanced after the cycle?
This usually happens with a small amount of laundry (e.g., one towel, single large items) which can be difficult for the machine to distribute evenly for spinning (Unbalance System – UKS activation). The display might show “unbalance”.
- Manually loosen and redistribute the laundry inside the drum.
- Select the “Drain” or “Spinning” program to remove excess water.
- For future washes with small loads, try adding a few more items (like towels) to help balance the load.
- You can also try increasing the amount of laundry in the machine and restarting the program (see “STEP 7: Start the wash / Adding or removing laundry after the start of the program”).
See error E13.1 if displayed.
What should I do if there are traces of grease (or grease rolls) on the clothes?
This indicates the laundry was very greasy.
- Wash the laundry again.
- For heavily soiled laundry like this, use more washing powder or use a liquid detergent combined with a more powerful (longer) washing program designed for heavy soil.
What should I do if there are still stains on the laundry after washing?
This could be due to:
- Using bleach-free detergent on stains requiring bleach: Use a detergent that contains bleach for suitable fabrics if needed.
- Unsuitable program selected: Choose a program more appropriate for the stain type and fabric.
- Stubborn stains: Use special stain removers before washing, following the product instructions.
What should I do about white residues of washing powder on the laundry?
This is usually not due to poor rinsing, but rather caused by phosphate-free detergents containing non-soluble ingredients (zeolites) for water softening, which can deposit on fabric.
- Immediately rinse the laundry again (e.g., using a Rinse cycle).
- Consider using liquid detergents, which do not contain zeolites.
- Try removing any visible residues with a brush after the clothes are dry.
What should I do if powder detergent is left in the main wash compartment?
This could be due to:
- Low water pressure: Clean the net filter on the water supply hose connected to the tap.
- Sticky powder: Some washing powders can stick to a dry compartment. Wipe the compartment dry before adding powder detergent. Ensure the compartment is clean (see cleaning instructions).
- Compacted powder: Don’t overfill the compartment. Break up any clumps before adding.
- Consider choosing a higher water level or adding an extra rinse option in the program settings (“Step 6 / Choose program settings”) if available.
What should I do if conditioner is left in the conditioner compartment?
The plug cap in the conditioner compartment of the detergent dispenser is likely not positioned correctly or is clogged.
- Remove the detergent dispenser drawer.
- Remove the conditioner cap (usually blue or grey, labelled ‘A’ in diagrams).
- Clean the cap and the tube underneath thoroughly.
- Ensure the cap is positioned correctly and securely back onto the plug.
- Clean the entire compartment (see “Cleaning the detergent compartment”).
What should I do about odour in the washing machine drum?
Odours can develop due to residue build-up or the growth of germs and bacteria, especially when washing frequently at low temperatures.
- Check the filter: Ensure the drain pump filter is clean, as trapped residues can cause odour.
- Run Drum Cleaning: Use the self-cleaning (Drum Cleaning) program regularly (recommended once a month). See “STEP 5: Choose the program”.
- Wipe the gasket: Regularly clean the door rubber gasket.
- Leave door ajar: After use, leave the washing machine door slightly open to allow the interior to air dry.
What should I do if the machine is moving during operation?
This is usually caused by the machine not being level or transport bolts still being in place.
- Check transport bolts: Ensure the transport bolts used for shipping have been completely removed from the back of the machine (see chapter “BEFORE USING THE APPLIANCE FOR THE FIRST TIME / Transport protection”).
- Level the machine: Adjust the feet of the washing machine so that it stands level and stable on the floor. Use a spirit level. Tighten the lock nuts on the feet once level (see chapter “INSTALLATION AND CONNECTION / Adjusting the feet”).
What should I do if the machine is moving during spinning?
This is often due to an unevenly distributed laundry load.
- The washing machine’s unbalance system (UKS) should automatically try to redistribute the load or decrease the spin speed if vibration is too strong.
- If the problem persists, especially with small loads or single large items, try increasing the amount of laundry in the washing machine to help balance the load and restart the program (see “STEP 7: Start the wash / Adding or removing laundry after the start of the program”).
- Ensure the machine is properly levelled (see previous question).
What should I do if the drain pump is noisy (loud)?
A loud or unusual noise from the drain pump usually indicates a blockage.
- Clean the drain pump filter: Check and clean the drain pump filter for any obstructions like coins, buttons, or lint.
- Check the filter housing: Ensure the filter housing area is clear and the impeller can rotate.
- See chapter “CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE / Cleaning the filter” for detailed steps.
How do I manually open the washing machine door?
The door may need to be opened manually if the appliance is not connected to power mains and water has been pumped out, or if the electronic lock fails.
Warning: Ensure water has been drained from the machine first. Attempting to open the door with water inside can cause flooding.
- Drain water: Run the Spinning or Drain program. If this fails, drain manually via the drain hose (see “Cleaning the filter” steps).
- Disconnect power: Ensure the main power switch is off and the plug is disconnected from the power outlet.
- Locate tool: Find the emergency door opening tool (often stored at the back of the detergent compartment drawer).
- Insert tool: Insert the tool into the upper part of the slot located on the right-hand side of the washing machine door latch mechanism.
- Unlock door: Press the tool downwards firmly (all the way, until you hear a click). This unlocks the door.
- Open door: Pull the door towards you to open it.
If the door still cannot be opened after following these steps, call a service technician.

Why does the displayed washing time change during the cycle?
The washing machine uses advanced technology to sense the amount of laundry loaded. Based on the detected load size, it adjusts the required amount of water and recalculates the necessary washing time.
Therefore, the time displayed at the beginning of the cycle is an estimate, and it can become longer or shorter as the machine optimizes the cycle for the specific load.
Additionally, the displayed washing time can be affected by the inlet water temperature. Low inlet water temperatures require longer heating times, extending the overall cycle duration compared to using warmer inlet water.
The machine’s unbalance control system (UKS) can also add time if it needs to make several attempts to redistribute an uneven load before spinning.
