Inserting or removing the SIM/microSD card

A micro-SIM card is required to make phone calls and use mobile networks. Power off your phone before inserting or removing the SIM/microSD card. Do not attempt to insert other SIM types like mini or nano cards, as you may damage your phone.

Charging the battery

You are advised to fully charge the battery. Charging status is indicated by a percentage displayed on screen while the phone is powered off. To reduce power consumption and energy waste, disconnect your charger when the battery is fully charged; switch off Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth or apps running in the background when not needed. You can also lower the brightness of the screen and shorten the length of time before the screen goes to sleep in Settings.

Power on your phone: Hold down the Power key until the phone powers on. It will take a few seconds before the screen lights up. Unlock your phone with a swipe, PIN, password, or pattern if you’ve set a screen lock.

Power off your phone: Hold down the Power key until the Phone options appear, then select Power off.

• Touch: To open an application, touch it with your finger.

• Long press: To enter available options for an item, long press the item. For example, selecting a contact in Contacts and long pressing it will bring up an options list.

• Drag: Place your finger on the screen to drag an object to another location.

• Slide/Swipe: Slide the screen to scroll up and down applications, images, and web pages. You can also slide the screen horizontally.

• Flick: Similar to swiping, but flicking makes it move quicker.

• Pinch/Spread: Place two fingers on the screen surface and draw them apart or together to scale an element on the screen.

• Rotate: Automatically change the screen orientation from portrait to landscape by turning the phone sideways to have a better screen view.

Status Bar: From the status bar at the top of the screen, you can see both phone status (on the right side) and notification information (on the left side).

Notification Panel: Drag down the status bar to view notifications. From here, you can open items and other reminders. To close it, touch and drag up.

Quick Settings Panel: Drag down the Notification panel downwards twice or touch the icon to open the Quick settings panel. Here you can touch icons to enable/disable functions or change modes. Long press an icon to show the settings for that function.

To protect your phone and privacy, you can lock your screen with a pattern, PIN, or password.

To create a screen lock:

1. Go to Settings > Security > Screen lock.

2. Select Pattern, PIN, or Password and follow the onscreen instructions.

To lock the phone screen: Press the Power key once.

To unlock the phone screen: Press the Power key to light up the screen, then draw your pattern or enter your PIN/password. If you have chosen Swipe as the lock, swipe the lock icon upward to unlock. From the swipe lock screen, you can also swipe left to open Camera or swipe right to open Voice search.

• Add an app or widget: Long press a folder, application, or widget to activate Move mode, then drag the item to your preferred Home screen.

• Reposition an app or widget: Long press the item to activate Move mode, drag it to the desired position, and release. You can move items on both the Home screen and the Favourite tray.

• Remove an app or widget: Long press the item to activate Move mode, drag it to the top of the “Remove” icon, and release when it turns red.

• Create folders: Drag one item on top of another to create a folder. To rename a folder, open it and touch the folder’s title bar.

• Customize wallpaper: Long press an empty area on the Home screen and touch WALLPAPERS, or go to Settings > Display > Wallpaper.

Consult widgets: Long press an empty area on the Home screen, then touch WIDGETS to display all widgets. Touch your selected widget and drag it to the desired position.

Consult recently-used applications: Touch the Overview key to show your recently-used apps. Touch a thumbnail to open an app, or swipe it left or right to remove it from the list. Touch the close icon at the bottom of the screen to close all running applications.

Using the volume key: Press the Volume key up or down to adjust the volume. To activate vibrate mode, press the Volume down key until the phone vibrates. Press the Volume down key once more to activate the “Don’t disturb” mode.

Using the settings menu: From the Home screen, open the applications list, then go to Settings > Sound & notification. You can set the volume of media, alarm, calls, notifications, etc. to your preference.

You can edit the text you have entered:

• Long press the text you want to edit.

• Drag the tabs to change the highlighted selection.

• Options for SELECT ALL, CUT, COPY, and SHARE will appear.

To insert new text:

• Touch where you want to type, or long press a blank space. The cursor will blink and a tab will show. Drag the tab to move the cursor.

• If you have cut or copied any text, touch the tab to show the PASTE icon, which allows you to paste the previously copied text.

To make a call, touch the Phone icon on the Home screen. Enter the number using the dial pad or select a contact from Call log or Contacts, then touch the call icon to place the call.

• To delete incorrect digits, touch the backspace icon.

• To hang up a call, touch the end call icon.

International call: To dial an international call, long press 0 to enter “+”, then enter the international country prefix followed by the full phone number and touch the call icon.

Emergency call: If your phone has network coverage, dial the emergency number and touch the call icon. This works even without a SIM card and without typing the PIN code.

When you receive a call:

• Swipe the phone icon right to answer.

• Swipe the phone icon left to reject.

• Swipe the message icon upwards to reject the call by sending a preset message.

To mute incoming calls, press the Volume up/down key, or turn the phone over if the ‘Turn over to mute’ option is activated (Settings > Gestures).

You can set up a conference call as follows:

1. Place a call to the first participant.

2. Touch the “Add call” icon.

3. Enter the phone number of the next person and touch the call icon. You can also add participants from Call log or Contacts.

4. Touch the “Merge calls” icon to start the conference call.

5. Touch the end call icon to end the conference call and disconnect all callers.

1. From the Home screen, touch the Application tab and select Contacts.

2. Touch the “add new contact” icon in the contact list.

3. Enter the contact’s name and other contact information.

4. You can select a picture or take a photo for the contact.

5. Scroll up and down the screen to move from one field to another.

6. When finished, touch the save icon.

From the Contacts screen, touch the menu icon and then touch Import/Export. You can then choose to import or export contacts from/to your accounts, SIM card, Phone, internal storage, SD card, etc.

To share a single contact or multiple contacts, you can send the contact’s vCard to others via Bluetooth, Gmail, etc. To do this, touch a contact you want to share, touch the menu icon and then Share from the contact details screen, and select an application to perform the action.

Contacts, data, or other information can be synchronized from multiple accounts.

To add an account:

1. From the contacts list screen, touch the menu icon and select Accounts > Add account.

2. Select the kind of account you are adding (e.g., Google, Personal IMAP).

3. Enter detailed information, like username and password.

To remove an account: Touch the account you want to delete, touch the menu icon, select Remove account, and then confirm.

Auto-sync: On the Accounts screen, touch the menu icon and mark the Auto-sync data checkbox to activate.

1. From the Home screen, touch the Messaging icon.

2. On the message list screen, touch the new message icon.

Sending a text message (SMS):

• Enter the recipient’s name or mobile phone number, or touch the add recipient icon to select from your contacts.

• Touch the content bar to enter the text of the message.

• When finished, touch the send icon. An SMS message of more than 160 characters will be charged as several SMS.

Sending a multimedia message (MMS):

• An SMS is automatically converted to MMS when media files (image, video, audio, etc.), a subject, or email addresses are added.

• To add a subject, touch the menu icon and then Add subject.

• Touch the attachment icon to attach a picture, video, audio, etc.

• When finished, touch the send icon.

In the message list screen, touch the menu icon and select Settings. Here you can adjust various settings for SMS and MMS messages.

Text message (SMS) Settings:

• Request delivery report: Mark to request a delivery report for each text message.

• Manage SIM card messages: Manage text messages stored on your SIM card.

• SMS storage location: Select your phone or SIM card as the storage location.

Multimedia message (MMS) Settings:

• Group messaging: Send a single message to multiple recipients.

• Request delivery/read report: Request reports for sent messages.

• Auto-retrieve: Automatically download the whole MMS message.

Notifications:

• Message notifications: Enable or disable notifications in the status bar.

• Sound: Select a ringtone for new messages.

To open the Calendar, touch the Application tab from the Home screen, then touch Calendar. You can use it to keep track of important meetings and appointments.

To change the view: Touch the icon next to the month title and select Schedule, Day, 3 Day, Week, or Month to open different views. Touch the “1” icon to return to Today’s view.

To create a new event:

1. Touch the “+” icon in any Calendar view.

2. Fill in all required information. For a whole-day event, turn on the ALL DAY switch.

3. When finished, touch SAVE from the top of the screen.

To delete or edit an event: Touch an event to open its details screen. Touch the edit icon to edit the event, or touch DELETE to delete it.

1. Open the Clock application from the Application tab.

2. Touch the alarm tab to enter the Alarms screen.

3. Touch the “+” icon to add a new alarm.

4. Set the time, repeat days, ringtone, vibration, and a label for the alarm.

To delete an alarm, touch the trash can icon next to it.

To adjust general alarm settings, touch the menu icon from the Alarms screen and select Settings. Here you can adjust options like silence after, snooze length, and alarm volume.

To open the Calculator, touch the Application tab from the Home screen, then touch Calculator. There are two panels available: Basic calculation and Scientific calculation.

To switch between panels:

• Swipe the basic calculation screen to the left to open the scientific calculation.

• Or, turn the device to landscape mode from the basic panel. This requires the auto-rotate screen setting to be on.

Enter a number and the arithmetic operation, then enter the second number and touch “=” to display the result. Touch the backspace icon to delete digits one by one, or long press it to delete all at once.

You can connect to the Internet when your phone is within range of a wireless network, even without a SIM card inserted.

1. Go to Settings, then touch Wi-Fi.

2. Touch the switch to turn Wi-Fi on.

3. Detailed information of all detected Wi-Fi networks will be displayed.

4. Touch a Wi-Fi network to connect to it. If the network is secured, you’ll need to enter a password or other credentials. When finished, touch CONNECT.

To forget a Wi-Fi network, long press the name of the saved network in the Wi-Fi screen and select “Forget network”.

Bluetooth allows you to exchange data or connect to other Bluetooth devices.

To turn on Bluetooth: Go to Settings > Bluetooth and touch the switch to turn it on or off.

To pair/connect with a Bluetooth device:

1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth.

2. Your phone will automatically search for available devices. If not, touch the menu icon and select Refresh.

3. Touch a desired Bluetooth device from the list.

4. A dialog will pop up; touch PAIR to confirm.

5. If the pairing is successful, your phone connects to the device.

To disconnect/unpair: Touch the settings icon after the device name you want to unpair, then touch FORGET to confirm.

You can transfer media files and other files between your phone and computer using the USB cable.

1. Use the USB cable that came with your phone to connect it to a USB port on your computer. You will receive a notification like “Connected as a media device” or “USB for charging”.

2. Touch to open the notification, then, in the next dialog, choose the way in which you want to transfer files (e.g., Media device (MTP)).

All data you have transferred or downloaded is stored in the File Manager application on your phone.

You can share your phone’s mobile data connection with a computer via USB (USB tethering), or with other devices as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot or via Bluetooth. Go to Settings > More > Tethering & portable hotspot.

• USB tethering: Connect your phone to a computer via USB cable. Touch the switch next to USB tethering to activate/deactivate.

• Portable Wi-Fi hotspot: Touch the switch next to Wi-Fi hotspot to activate/deactivate. You can touch “Set up Wi-Fi hotspot” to change the network name (SSID) and set your security.

• Bluetooth tethering: Turn on the switch next to Bluetooth tethering to activate.

To open the Camera, touch the Camera icon on your Home screen. If the phone is locked, press the Power button and swipe the camera icon to the left.

• To take a picture: Position the object or landscape in the viewfinder and touch the shutter icon. You can also long press the shutter icon to take burst shots.

• To shoot a video: Touch the video icon to start recording. Touch the stop icon to stop recording.

• Switch cameras: Touch the icon to switch between the front and back cameras.

• Zoom: Pinch or spread with two fingers to zoom in or out.

• View photos/videos: Touch the thumbnail to view the photos or videos you have taken.

• Shooting modes: Swipe the navigation menu left or right to switch between modes like QR code, PANO, Face beauty, etc.

In the Gallery, you can work with pictures by rotating or cropping them, sharing them, setting them as a contact photo or wallpaper, etc.

1. Locate the picture you want to work on and touch it to open the full-screen view.

2. Touch the share icon to share the picture.

3. Touch the edit icon to edit the picture. You can apply effects (Punch, Vintage, B/W), add a border, crop, straighten, rotate, mirror, or draw on the picture.

4. Touch the menu icon and select “Set as…” to set the picture as a Contact photo or Wallpaper.

Gallery also provides a batch operation mode. On the main Gallery screen, touch the menu icon and then “Select item” to select multiple pictures/videos to share or delete.

You can play music files stored on your phone or microSD card. To play music, touch the Music icon from the Home screen. Songs are classified into categories: Artists, Albums, Songs, and Playlists. Touch a song to play it.

While playing a song, you can:

• Touch the icons to Pause, Play, or Skip tracks.

• Touch the shuffle icon to turn shuffle mode on or off.

• Touch the repeat icon to cycle through repeat modes (repeat all, repeat current, repeat off).

• Drag the playhead to skip to any point in a song.

Your ALCATEL PIXI 4 5010U is equipped with an FM radio. To listen, touch the Application tab from the Home screen, then select Radio. You must insert a headset, as it is used as the antenna.

• Scan channels: In the options menu, select “Scan channels” to find all available stations.

• Tune frequency: Drag the frequency slider or touch the arrow icons to tune.

• Favourites: Touch the star icon to add the current station to favourites or remove it.

• Play/Pause: Touch the play/pause icon to control playback.

Go to Settings > Backup & reset.

• Back up my data: Turn on the switch to back up your phone’s settings and other application data to Google servers with your Google account. If you replace your phone, the settings and data you’ve backed up are restored onto the new phone the first time you sign in.

• Factory data reset: This will erase all of your personal data from internal phone storage, including your Google account, system and application settings, and any downloaded applications. It does not erase system software updates or files on your microSD card. If you reset the phone this way, you’re prompted to re-enter the same information as when you first started Android.

To perform a factory data reset using hardware keys: When the phone is powered off, press and hold the Volume up key and the Power key at the same time until the screen lights up.

In Settings > Accessibility, you can configure accessibility plug-ins. Features include:

• TalkBack: Provides spoken feedback to help blind and low-vision users by describing what you touch, select, and activate.

• Switch Access: Allows you to control your phone with configurable key combinations.

• Magnification: Turn on/off to activate/deactivate zoom in/out function by triple-touching the screen.

• Large text: Turn on the switch to enlarge the screen text.

• High contrast text: Turn on the switch to activate high contrast text.

• Power button ends call: Turn on to allow the Power button to end calls.

• Speak passwords: Turn on to speak passwords while typing.

• Colour inversion: Touch the switch to turn on/off colour inversion.

To enable Developer options, go to Settings > About phone, then touch “Build number” 7 times. The Developer options screen will then be available in the Settings menu, containing settings useful for developing Android applications.

Before contacting a service center, you are advised to follow these instructions:

• Fully charge the battery for optimal operation.

• Avoid storing large amounts of data on your phone as this may affect its performance.

• Update your phone’s software using the FOTA (Firmware Over The Air) Upgrade tool. Access it via the “System updates” app or through Settings > About phone > System updates.

• Use Factory data reset to perform phone formatting. To do this, hold down the Power key and the Volume up key at the same time while the phone is powered off. Note that ALL user data will be lost permanently, so it is strongly advised to back up your phone data first.

• If the phone can’t be switched on, charge for at least 20 minutes to ensure minimum battery power, then try to switch on again.

• If the phone falls into a loop during power-on animation, press and hold the Power key to reset. This can eliminate OS booting issues caused by third-party apps.

• If neither method is effective, reset the phone using the Power key and the Volume up key (holding both together) or upgrade the software.

• Make sure you are using an ALCATEL battery and the charger from the box.

• Make sure your battery is inserted properly and the battery contact is clean. It must be inserted before plugging in the charger.

• Make sure the battery is not completely discharged; if it’s empty for a long time, it may take around 20 minutes to display the battery charger indicator.

• Ensure charging is carried out under normal conditions (0°C to +40°C).

• When abroad, check that the voltage input is compatible.

If “No service” is displayed:

• Try connecting in another location.

• Verify network coverage with your operator.

• Check with your operator that your SIM card is valid.

• Try selecting the available network(s) manually.

If you can’t connect to the Internet:

• Check that the IMEI number (press *#06#) is the same as the one printed on your warranty card or box.

• Make sure the internet access service of your SIM card is available.

• Check your phone’s Internet connection settings.

• Make sure you are in a place with network coverage.

Unable to make outgoing calls:

• Make sure you have dialed a valid number and have touched the Call icon.

• For international calls, check the country and area codes.

• Ensure your phone is connected to a network that is not overloaded or unavailable.

• Check your subscription status with your operator.

• Make sure you have not barred outgoing calls.

• Make sure your phone is not in Aeroplane mode.

Unable to receive incoming calls:

• Make sure your phone is switched on and connected to a network.

• Check your subscription status with your operator.

• Make sure you have not forwarded incoming calls.

• Make sure you have not barred certain calls.

• Install Smart Suite.

• Check that your USB driver is installed properly.

• Open the Notification panel to check if the Smart Suite Agent has been activated.

• Check that you have marked the checkbox for USB debugging.

• Check that your computer meets the requirements for Smart Suite Installation.

• Make sure that you’re using the right cable from the box.

• Make sure you follow the complete charge time (minimum 2.5 hours).

• After a partial charge, the battery level indicator may not be exact. Wait at least 20 minutes after removing the charger to get an exact indication.

• Adjust the screen brightness as appropriate.

• Extend the email auto-check interval for as long as possible.

• Update news and weather information on manual demand, or increase their auto-check interval.

• Exit background-running applications if they are not being used for a long time.

• Deactivate Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or GPS when not in use.

After a Factory reset is performed, you need to enter the original Google account credentials that were used on this device before the reset. Otherwise, you will not be able to use the device. If you don’t remember your Google account credentials, please complete the Google account recovery procedure. If you cannot succeed, you will need to apply to an authorized repair center, but note that this will not be regarded as a warranty case. This is applicable for Android OS versions starting from 5.1.

Please check if Interruptions/Do not disturb mode is activated on your device. If it is activated, you will see a specific icon (star or circle with a line through it) displayed on the notification panel. To deactivate this mode, press the volume up or down key and modify the setting in the pop-up, or go to Settings > Sound & notification > Do not disturb.
