How should the operating instructions be used?
Read the operating instructions and act accordingly.
Keep them for later use and later owners.
Comply with the safety information and the warnings on the appliance.
What are the general safety warnings regarding children and inexperienced users?
This is not a children’s toy. It is not suitable for use by children or unskilled persons left unsupervised.
Children and juveniles, who have not reached the age of 16, and people under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication, are not allowed to use the appliance. Local regulations can also stipulate a minimum age for users.
What personal protective equipment should be worn during operation?
Wear safety glasses and ear muffs while working with the appliance.
Keep hand and feet away from rotating parts.
While working with the appliance wear always sturdy shoes and long pants. Never work without shoes or while wearing sandals.
How should the appliance’s technical condition be maintained?
Use the appliance only in perfect technical condition. Check whether the cutting equipment and bolts are worn or damaged.
Replace worn or damaged cutting equipment and bolts only by pair in order to prevent any unbalance.
Replace damage or worn parts immediately. Use only original spare parts.
What are the environmental and terrain considerations for using the appliance?
Only work in daylight or sufficiently good artificial light.
Don’t use the appliance on wet grass. Skid risk!
Check the terrain before working with the appliance and remove stones, sticks, wires, bones and other foreign substances which could be taken by the scarifier and thrown away.
You are not allowed to use the appliance if there are people, in particular children or animals, in the working area.
The user of the appliance is responsible for accidents with other people or their property.
How does the motor safety switch function and what should be done if it activates?
The motor safety switch turns off the motor in the event of a capacity overload. The function of the motor safety switch may not be taken out of operation.
If the motor safety switch has turned off the appliance, proceed as follows:
1. Disconnect the appliance from the power supply.
2. Correct the cause for the capacity overload.
3. After a cooling time of 2 to 3 minutes, connect it again to the power supply and start the appliance up again.
What is the function of the safety switch bar?
The appliance is equipped with a safety switch bar that turns off the appliance as soon as it is let go.
Danger! The function of the safety switch bar may not be taken out of operation.
Does the appliance have a back cover?
The equipment is equipped with a back cover.
How does the optical safety display work?
The appliance is equipped with an optical safety display, which shows whether the output shaft is correctly mounted and screwed. If the green marking can be seen (5 mm), this means that the output shaft is mounted correctly.
What are the requirements for the connection line?
Only use rubber cable of the H05RN-F DIN/VDE 0282 quality with a cross section of 3 х 1.5 mm².
The type designation must be indicated on the connection line. Use rubber or rubber coated plugs and cable connectors, which comply with DIN/VDE 0620.
Only use connection lines of sufficient lengths.
Connection line, plug and plug connector must be splash-proof.
Repairs of the connection line, the plug and plug connector may only be made through authorized specialists. Don’t use faulty connection lines (e. g. with cracks, cutting, crushing or bucking signs in the insulation).
Protect plug connections against moisture.
Danger! Don’t damage or cut the connection line.
What is the proper use of this appliance?
This appliance is only intended for scarifying/aerating (loosening and aerating of the lawn).
It is only suitable for private use in home and hobby gardens.
What constitutes improper use of the appliance?
The appliance must not be used in permanent operation and not in industrial environments.
How are operating times for electric scarifiers determined?
The operating times for scarifiers depend on the respectively applicable regulations of a country. Local provisions can define different operating times.
What steps are involved in unpacking and mounting the appliance?
Danger! Only put the appliance into operation after assembly of all parts has been completed.
1. Remove the appliance from the packaging.
2. Check the content for completeness. In the event of deficiencies inform your dealer.
3. Execute the assembly of the components according to the assembly plan on page 2.
How is the working depth adjusted (picture A)?
Danger! Only with the motor switched off and the roller at a standstill.
1. Press the handle to lift the front axle and to discharge the front wheels.
2. Push the turning knob down (picture A) and turn to level “2”.
When is it safe to operate the appliance regarding missing or defective parts?
Danger! Operate the appliance only, when no parts (e.g. rear flap) are missing or defective and when the connection line is free of damages.
How to connect the appliance to the power supply (picture B)?
1. Insert the coupling member of the power cable to the plug of the spring-loaded safety push button.
2. Form a loop from the power cable and slide it into the cable relief. The loop of the power cable must be long enough to be able to slide from one side to the other.
How to switch the motor on (picture C and D)?
1. Press the safety push button and keep pressed.
2. Pull the safety handle against the bar. The motor starts.
Note: The safety handle does not engage. It must be hold all the time.
3. Let go the safety push button.
How to switch the motor off?
1. Let go of the safety handle. The safety handle automatically returns to the zero position. The motor is now turned off.
Danger! After the motor has been switched off, the roller continues to rotate for a few seconds – therefore, do not put your hands under the appliance straight away.
What operating information should be followed before use?
Note: Before using the appliance, check it for external damages. The green marking of the optical safety display must be visible (5 mm).
To start the appliance, the roller must be completely unobstructed.
Don’t bring your hands and feet close to rotating parts.
Operate the appliance only, when the safety distance defined by the guiding bar is complied with.
Keep the power cable safely.
Drive the appliance only at walking speed.
Make sure you have a good standing while using the appliance.
Do not scarify along steep slopes.
Always scarify at right angle to slopes, never directly upwards or downwards.
Caution while changing direction during work on slopes.
Caution while making turns with the appliance or approaching it to persons.
Never tilt or transport appliance with running motor.
Never leave the appliance unattended.
When leaving, disconnect the appliance from the power supply.
When is checking by an expert necessary for the appliance?
after hitting an obstacle
if the motor comes to an immediate standstill
if the blades of the scarifier roller are bent
if the toothed belt is defective
if the wire leading to the motor is damaged
if there are other damages.
What are the safety precautions for maintenance and care?
Danger! Pull the plug out before any maintenance and wait for a standstill of the roller. Repairs of the appliance may only be executed by an authorized dealer.
What are the maintenance intervals before each operation?
1. Make a visual control of the appliance.
2. The appliance must not be used, when nuts, bolts, screws or other parts are missing, defective or loose.
3. Make a visual control of the connection line. Don’t use faulty connection lines (e. g. with cracks, cutting, crushing or bucking signs in the insulation).
4. Check rear flap and/or grass box for wear and damages.
How should the appliance be cleaned?
Clean the appliance after each use.
Attention! Never splash with water. Penetrating water can destroy the motor and the safety plug.
Clean the roller with a spatula, brush etc.
Danger! Risk of injury on the blades of the roller. Wear protective gloves.
How to remove the scarifier roller (picture E)?
1. Unscrew the screw (1) from the bearing.
2. Flap up the bearing half (3).
3. Lift the scarifier roller from the lower bearing half and pull it out from the drive side (2).
To re-assemble proceed in reverse order.
How to replace the scarifier roller blades (picture F)?
Note: Before disassembling the blade look at its mounting position.
1. Unscrew the hexagon bolt (1).
2. Carefully remove the ball bearing (2) from the shaft (8).
3. Remove pressure ring (3), disk (4) and short distance sleeve (5) from the shaft.
4. Successively remove blade (6) and long distance sleeves.
To re-assemble proceed in reverse order.
Concerns COMFORT 32 VLE COMBI CARE only.
The disassembly of the aerator roller and replacement of the steel spring beaks must be made analogously to the scarifier roller.
What should be done before any maintenance and cleaning work?
Pull the plug out and wait until the blade roller has come to a standstill before any maintenance and cleaning work.
