The package contains the following items: one ADVANTECH AWS-8129H2-RAE industrial workstation with 12.1 inch flat panel display and one accessory box.

The accessory box includes: one HMI products drivers and utilities CD-ROM, one utility diskette for function key programming, one user manual, one cable to link the front PS/2 connector to the CPU card, one flat gray cable for 3.5 inch HDD and slim CD-ROM, one Y-cable for PS/2 keyboard and mouse, one RS-232 cable to link the touchscreen to the CPU card (only for -T models), and a screw bag with screws.

To safely operate the ADVANTECH AWS-8129H2-RAE, follow these instructions:

1. Disconnect the equipment from any AC outlet before cleaning, using only a damp cloth; do not use liquid or spray detergents.

2. Ensure the power outlet socket for plug-in equipment is located near the device and is easily accessible.

3. Keep the equipment away from humidity.

4. Install the equipment on a reliable surface to prevent dropping or falling.

5. Do not cover the openings on the enclosure, as they are for air convection to prevent overheating.

6. Verify the power source voltage is correct before connecting the equipment.

7. Position the power cord so it cannot be stepped on and ensure nothing is placed over it.

8. If the equipment is not used for a long time, disconnect it from the power source to avoid damage by transient overvoltage.

9. Never pour any liquid into an opening, as this may cause fire or electrical shock.

10. Do not open the equipment; it should only be opened by qualified service personnel.

11. Store the equipment only in environments where the temperature is between -20 degrees Celsius and 60 degrees Celsius.

Before installing any components such as a CPU card, display adapter card, optional hard disk drive, or additional I/O cards, you must switch off and unplug the ADVANTECH AWS-8129H2-RAE. Do not begin the installation until you are sure there is no power flowing within the unit. Every time you access the inside of the ADVANTECH AWS-8129H2-RAE, you should ensure it is switched off and unplugged.

To access the interior of the ADVANTECH AWS-8129H2-RAE, remove the eight screws from the top panel and open the top cover. Once the top cover is removed, you can detach the six screws from the rear panel to open it.

To install add-on cards, first open the top panel. Slowly slide the card in and carefully press it into the backplane socket. Secure the card with a screw to the top mounting bar. Connect any necessary wires, then reattach the cover when you have finished.

The ADVANTECH AWS-8129H2-RAE has space for a 3.5 inch hard disk drive or a slim CD-ROM drive above the pre-installed front-facing floppy drive. To install these, unscrew the drive mount assembly from the body of the case, attach the drive using the provided screws, and attach the ribbon connector. After adding the drives, set the ribbon cables in place and remount the drive mount assembly.

You can connect an external keyboard to the ADVANTECH AWS-8129H2-RAE using the PS/2 connector located on the front panel under the dust-protection door. There are also two additional keyboard connectors located on the back of the chassis. You cannot connect two keyboards to the two rear connectors at the same time, but you can connect one keyboard to the front panel PS/2 connector and another to one of the rear keyboard connectors simultaneously.

Note: To use the keyboard and the integrated keypad simultaneously, you must connect the keyboard connector on the backplane to the keyboard connector on the CPU card, and then connect the external keyboard jack to the keyboard jack located next to the power supply. Connecting the keyboard to the 5-pin DIN connector on the CPU card will cause neither the keyboard nor the keypad to work.

The ADVANTECH AWS-8129H2-RAE uses the KBT-2002 keyboard translator, which supports programmable macro keys. To edit them, you must use the Main.exe utility program, which can only be run under DOS mode.

First, find the .pad file corresponding to the ADVANTECH AWS-8129H2-RAE series. Copy all files from the utility disk to your hard disk. Run Main.exe to access the main menu.

To edit keys, choose ‘Load’ to load your definition file, then choose ‘Edit’ to enter edit mode. You can use the arrow keys to choose the macro key you wish to edit and the Enter key to open the sub-screen. Enter your character string (under 78 characters) or function key names within brackets. Upon completion, press ESC to exit edit mode, then select ‘Save’ from the main menu to save your changes with a new file name (under 7 characters).

To program the controller, choose ‘Run’ in the main menu to enter programming mode. After setting your preferences, the system will save the data to the keyboard translator board of the ADVANTECH AWS-8129H2-RAE.

If you need to replace the inverter, LCD, or LCD backlight on the ADVANTECH AWS-8129H2-RAE, follow these steps:

1. Open the top and rear covers.

2. Disconnect the cable from the LCD controller and LCD.

3. Pull out the bracket located below the backplane.

4. Detach the bracket behind the front panel.

5. Disconnect the cables of the inverter and the cables of the touchscreen controller (if applicable). Pull out the LCD bracket to change the inverter.

6. Carefully unscrew the four screws and pull out the LCD.

7. Unscrew the screws on the LCD to change the backlight. Use caution as the backlight is small and fragile.

To service or replace the keyboard translator in the ADVANTECH AWS-8129H2-RAE, switch off the power and detach the main power cord. Detach the work drawer and cover, then pull the work drawer out as far as it will go. Remove the keypad connector protective bracket, carefully detach all cables connected to the keyboard translator, and unscrew the four screws on the corners to pull out and replace the unit.

To service or replace the touchscreen controller on the ADVANTECH AWS-8129H2-RAE, open the top and rear covers, disconnect the cable from the LCD controller and LCD, pull out the bracket located below the backplane, and detach the bracket behind the front panel. Disconnect the cables of the inverter and the cables of the touchscreen controller, then replace the touchscreen controller. Do not bend the touchscreen tail attached to the touchscreen sensor.
