****** Page 1 ****** BASAL DIGITAL THERMOMETER INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE Please read thoroughly before using FEATURES KD-2160 This basal digital thermometer is intended to measure the human body temperature for women. It’s precise digital display is for using in a household environment. 1. Oral temperature measurement in approximately 30 seconds with proper use. 2. 40 sets of memories. Recall all memories using NFC (Near Field Communication) or the headset jack adaptor on your mobile device. 3. Very sensitive unit, easy to read digital LCD (liquid crystal display). 4. Compact, accurate and durable LSI (large scale integration) unit. 5. If the thermometer is inadvertently left on after temperature stabilization, it will automatically shut off after approximately 3 minutes. 6. Small, light weight unit with “store-away” probe and a handy carry case. 7. ABS resin body presents no hazard compared to broken mercury/glass thermometers. 8. Low battery indicator: when the symbol ” O “appears , the battery needs to be replaced . HOW TO USE 1. The probe is folded into the body of the thermometer for storage. Unfold the probe and disinfect with rubbing alcohol before using. 2. Press and release the on/off button. The display will read 3. Next the display will show LOF or LOC with the OF or oc flashing. 4. Place the probe under the tongue as described and shown below. 5. Once the degree sign OF (oc) on the display has stopped flashing, the measured temperature is indicated. 6. The unit will automatically turn off in approx. 3 minutes. However, to prolong battery life, it is best to turn off the thermometer by pressing the ON/OFF button once the temperature has been noted. ORAL USE Place the probe well under the patient’s tongue with the probe sensor in the “heat pocket” (see diagram). Instruct the patient to keep their mouth closed while the thermometer is reading. You may find it necessary to hold the unit in place while it is reading, so you do not bite the probe. A normal temperature by this method is usually considered betmeen 96.80* to 99.500F (36.OOOC to 37.500C). The “Normal Temperature” alarm (four quick beeps followed by a pause) will sound repeatedly for approximately 5 seconds. For Switchable Fahrenheit and Centi rade Models: After turning on or waking up the thermometer, the Fahrenheit or Centigrade mode can be switched within the first 2 seconds by pressing and holding the POWER button until you hear a beep and the F or C changes. When the unit is off or in clock mode, press the M button to view the most recent memory reading. Continue to press/release for viewing additional memory readings. Memory readings show from the most recent to the oldest and include the memory number and the corresponding temperature. no.LIu User can record all memories on their mobile device with application software located on the OIJcare website. For more complete information, visit htt ://WMN.oucare.com/ roducts-bbt.html For information and help in using this thermometer with your mobile device, refer t the enclosed Quick Start Guide. Setting: The unit can be setup with the date, time and clock mode (on or off). The setting sequence is year, month, day, hour, minute and clock mode. 1. With the unit in ‘off or ‘clock’ mode, press and hold the M button until the display shows a blinking year and press the POWER button for adjustment. 2. After selecting the current year, press the M button to proceed to set the month, day etc., using the POWER button for adjustments. en ILI …+ n l.n I nn•nn _+ r ) •nc pn II-I . n In nn•nn rl •n nn•nn u cu I UU.UU LL.UJ7 UU.UU NOTE : NOTE : NOTE : Always disinfect the thermometer before and after using. In Step 3, if the room temperature is greater than 90.000F (32.000C), it will be displayed rather than LOF (LOC). Before step 4, you may put a plastic sanitary probe cover on the sensor tip to help prevent cross-contamination and infection. Using a probe cover may result in a 0.20F (0. IOC) difference from actual temperature. Dispose of used probe cover and store the unit in the case provided and in a safe place. Do not drop the thermometer or expose it to heavy shock. The unit is not shock-proof. 3. This unit is not water proof. Sensor and probe are water resistant. 4. Do not bite or swallow the probe. Do not place the headset jack adaptor in mouth. 5. After using, clean the thermometer and store it in the carrier case. 6. Do not store the unit in direct sunlight, at a high temperature, in high humidity or dust. Performance may be degraded. 7. Stop using the thermometer if it operates erratically or if the display malfunctions. 8. Keep out of reach of children. Supervision is recommended at all times. 9. Do not attempt to disassemble the unit except to replace the battery. 10. If the thermometer has been stored outside the stated storage condition range of temperatures (see specifications), allow the thermometer to naturally return to room temperature before using. 11. If the thermometer is operated outside the stated temperature and humidity ranges or if the patient’s temperature is below the ambient (room) temperature, performance of the device may be degraded. BATTERY REPLACEMENT 1. When the symbol “O” appears, the battery needs to be replaced. 2. Push and slide the battery cover as indicated below to open. Use a non-metal object inserted into the recessed notch to carefully lift the battery up and out of the unit. Do not lift the battery or remove from the opposite side as this may damage or break the metal tabs. 3. Confirm the polarity of the battery is correct (positive + side up) and insert, again being careful not to damage the metal tabs. Replace the battery cover. Recessed notch Warning: Metal Tabs BODY TEMPERATURE FACTS THE TAKING OF BODY TEMPERATURES: Changes in body temperature are one of the most important indicators of illness. It is important that accurate temperatures be taken. Even though the digital thermometer is used in similar manner to the glass thermometer, it is important that these simple instructions for use be followed closely and that the person taking the temperature understands body temperature. BODY TEMPERATURE: A person’s body temperature will usually be several tenths to one full degree lower in the morning than it is in the late afternoon. Therefore, if your temperature is 97.880F (36.600C) in the morning, it could be 98.420F (36.900C) or more in the late afternoon and still be normal. To determine what your normal body temperature is you should take your temperature both in the early morning and in the late afternoon over several days. Children have the same normal temperature range as do adults. A fever for both children and adults is typically defined as a temperature over 99.500F (37.500C) [oral reading]. Exercise, excessive clothing, hot bath, hot weather, warm food and drink can all cause elevations of up to 100.400F (38.000C) to 101.120F (38.400C) in oral temperature. If you suspect one of these to be the cause of an elevated reading, eliminate the cause and retake the temperature in half an hour. CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS To clean the thermometer, wash the sensor with a solution of mild detergent and cool water. Disinfect the thermometer by wiping the sensor and probe with a cloth dipped in a household antiseptic solution such as rubbing alcohol.
