• Clothing: The use of a jacket, heavy boots, trousers, and gloves is effective in preventing or reducing abrasions or lacerations. Avoid loose-fitting clothes that could catch on controls or wheels.

• Leg, Ankle, and Foot Protection: Always wear protective clothing that covers your legs, ankles, and feet. The engine and exhaust system become very hot and can cause burns.

A passenger should also observe these precautions.

All engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, a deadly gas. To avoid poisoning, follow these guidelines:

• Do not run the engine indoors. Even with ventilation, carbon monoxide can reach dangerous levels quickly.

• Do not run the engine in poorly ventilated or partially enclosed areas such as barns, garages, or carports.

• Do not run the engine outdoors where exhaust can be drawn into a building through openings like windows and doors.

If you experience any symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning (headaches, dizziness, nausea, confusion), leave the area immediately, get fresh air, and SEEK MEDICAL TREATMENT.

Adding accessories or cargo can affect the stability and handling of your YAMAHA XSR700N 2022. Follow these guidelines to avoid an accident:

• The total weight of the operator, passenger, accessories, and cargo must not exceed the maximum load of 169 kg (374 lb). Operation of an overloaded vehicle could cause an accident.

• Keep cargo and accessory weight as low and close to the motorcycle as possible. Pack heaviest items close to the center and distribute weight evenly on both sides.

• Securely attach all items before riding and check them frequently.

• Properly adjust the suspension for your load and check tire condition and pressure.

• Never attach large or heavy items to the handlebar, front fork, or front fender, as this can create unstable handling.

• This vehicle is not designed to pull a trailer or be attached to a sidecar.

Installing aftermarket products or having modifications performed can put you at greater risk of injury or death. Keep the following in mind:

• Never install accessories or carry cargo that would impair performance. Inspect accessories to ensure they do not reduce ground or cornering clearance, limit suspension travel, or obstruct lights and reflectors.

• Accessories fitted to the handlebar or front fork area must be lightweight and kept to a minimum to avoid instability.

• Bulky or large accessories can seriously affect stability due to aerodynamic effects, especially in crosswinds or when passing large vehicles.

• Use caution when adding electrical accessories. If they exceed the capacity of the motorcycle’s electrical system, it could result in a dangerous loss of lights or engine power.

Before transporting your motorcycle, be sure to observe the following instructions:

• Remove all loose items from the motorcycle.

• Shift the transmission into gear.

• Secure the motorcycle with tie-downs or suitable straps attached to solid parts of the motorcycle, such as the frame or upper front fork triple clamp. Do not attach straps to rubber-mounted parts like handlebars or turn signals.

• Choose the location for straps carefully to avoid rubbing against painted surfaces.

• The suspension should be compressed somewhat by the tie-downs to prevent excessive bouncing during transport.

The main switch/steering lock controls the ignition and lighting systems. The positions are described below:

• ON: All electrical circuits are supplied with power, and the vehicle lights are turned on. The engine can be started. The key cannot be removed. The headlight comes on automatically when the engine is started.

• OFF: All electrical systems are off. The key can be removed.

• LOCK: The steering is locked, and all electrical systems are off. The key can be removed.

To lock the steering:

1. Turn the handlebars all the way to the left.

2. With the key in the “OFF” position, push the key in and turn it to “LOCK”.

3. Remove the key.

To unlock the steering:

Push the key in and turn it to “OFF”.

• Turn signal indicator lights: Flash when the corresponding turn signals are flashing.

• Neutral indicator light: Comes on when the transmission is in the neutral position.

• High beam indicator light: Comes on when the high beam is switched on.

• Oil pressure warning light: Comes on if the engine oil pressure is low. If it comes on while the engine is running, stop the engine, check the oil level, and add oil if necessary. If the light remains on, have the vehicle checked.

• Coolant temperature warning light: Comes on when the engine is overheating. Stop the engine immediately and allow it to cool.

• Engine trouble warning light: Comes on if a problem is detected in the engine. Have a Yamaha dealer check the on-board diagnostic system.

• ABS warning light: Comes on when the key is first turned on and goes off after starting to ride. If it comes on while riding, the ABS may not work correctly.

To switch the display units on your YAMAHA XSR700N 2022 between kilometers and miles, hold the “TRIP” switch/button B for 5 seconds until the display units change.

Use the “TRIP” switch/button B to cycle between the information display items in the following order:

ODO → TRIP 1 → TRIP 2 → TRIP F → km/L or L/100 km or MPG → AVE km/L or AVE L/100 km or AVE MPG → Coolant Temp (°F) → Air Temp (°F) → Clock → ODO

Use the “INFO” switch/button A to cycle the information display in the reverse order.

To reset a tripmeter (TRIP 1 or TRIP 2) on your YAMAHA XSR700N 2022, hold the “INFO” switch/button A for one second while the desired tripmeter is visible on the display. The tripmeters will reset and continue counting after 9999.9.

To set the 12-hour clock on your YAMAHA XSR700N 2022:

1. Press button A and button B together for 2 seconds until the hour digits start flashing.

2. Use the “INFO” switch/button A to set the hours.

3. Press the “TRIP” switch/button B to confirm the hour setting. The minute digits will start flashing.

4. Use the “INFO” switch/button A to set the minutes.

5. Press the “TRIP” switch/button B to confirm the settings.

To adjust the display brightness level:

1. Turn the main switch to “OFF”.

2. Hold button B.

3. Turn the main switch to “ON” and continue holding button B for 5 seconds until the display switches to the brightness control mode.

4. Use the “INFO” switch/button A to set the brightness level.

5. Push the “TRIP” switch/button B to confirm the selected level and exit the brightness control mode.

Left Handlebar Switches:

• Pass switch: Press to flash the headlight.

• Dimmer switch: Set to high beam or low beam.

• Turn signal switch: Push left or right to signal a turn. Push the switch in to cancel.

• Horn switch: Press to sound the horn.

• “TRIP/INFO” switch: Used to make setting and display changes in the multi-function meter.

Right Handlebar Switches:

• Stop/Run/Start switch: Set to RUN to enable the engine to start. Set to STOP to stop the engine in an emergency. Push down towards START to crank the engine.

• Hazard switch: Use to turn on the hazard lights (simultaneous flashing of all turn signal lights).

The brake lever is located on the right side of the handlebar. To apply the front brake, pull the lever toward the throttle grip.

The brake lever is equipped with a position adjusting dial. To adjust the distance between the brake lever and the throttle grip, push the brake lever away from the throttle grip and rotate the adjusting dial. Ensure the setting number on the dial aligns with the match mark on the brake lever.

The Yamaha ABS features a dual electronic control system that acts on the front and rear brakes independently. Operate the brakes with ABS as you would conventional brakes. If ABS is activated, a pulsating sensation may be felt at the brake lever or brake pedal. In this situation, continue to apply the brakes and let the ABS work; do not “pump” the brakes, as this will reduce braking effectiveness.

Keep a sufficient distance from the vehicle ahead, as ABS performs best with long braking distances. On surfaces like rough or gravel roads, braking distance may be longer with ABS than without.

To open the fuel tank cap:

Open the fuel tank cap lock cover, insert the key, and then turn it 1/4 turn clockwise. The lock will be released and the fuel tank cap can be opened.

To close the fuel tank cap:

With the key still inserted, push down the fuel tank cap. Turn the key 1/4 turn counterclockwise, remove it, and then close the lock cover. The cap cannot be closed unless the key is in the lock.

Gasoline is extremely flammable. Follow these instructions to reduce risk of injury:

1. Before refueling, turn off the engine and ensure no one is sitting on the vehicle. Never refuel while smoking or near sparks or open flames.

2. Do not overfill the fuel tank. Stop filling when the fuel reaches the bottom of the filler tube. Fuel expands when it heats up and can spill out.

3. Immediately wipe up any spilled fuel with a clean, dry, soft cloth, as fuel can deteriorate painted surfaces or plastic parts.

4. Be sure to securely close the fuel tank cap.

• Recommended fuel: Unleaded gasoline (E10 acceptable)

• Octane number (R+M)/2: 86 or higher

• Fuel tank capacity: 14 L (3.7 US gal, 3.1 Imp.gal)

• Fuel reserve amount: 2.7 L (0.71 US gal, 0.59 Imp.gal)

Use only unleaded gasoline. Leaded gasoline will cause severe damage to internal engine parts and the exhaust system.

To remove the seat:

Insert the key into the seat lock, turn it counterclockwise, and then pull the seat off.

To install the seat:

Fit the slot in the seat onto the projection as shown, orient the seat to insert the seat bracket into the seat lock, push the rear of the seat down to lock it in place, and then remove the key. Ensure the seat is properly secured before riding.

Use the special wrench and extension bar included in the tool kit to make the adjustment.

• To increase spring preload (for a stiffer suspension), turn the adjusting ring in direction (a).

• To decrease spring preload (for a softer suspension), turn the adjusting ring in direction (b).

Align the appropriate notch in the adjusting ring with the position indicator on the shock absorber. Do not attempt to turn beyond the maximum or minimum settings.

Spring preload settings:

• Minimum (soft): 1

• Standard: 3

• Maximum (hard): 9

The ignition circuit cut-off system prevents the engine from starting or running under certain conditions for safety (e.g., sidestand down while in gear). Periodically check the system using the following procedure.

With the engine turned off:

1. Move the sidestand down.

2. Set engine stop switch to run position.

3. Turn main switch to on position.

4. Shift transmission into neutral.

5. Push the start switch.

• Does the engine start? If YES, proceed to the next check. If NO, the neutral switch may not be working. The motorcycle should not be ridden until checked by a Yamaha dealer.

With the engine still running:

6. Move the sidestand up.

7. Pull the clutch lever.

8. Shift transmission into gear.

9. Move the sidestand down.

• Does the engine stall? If YES, proceed to the next check. If NO, the sidestand switch may not be working. The motorcycle should not be ridden until checked by a Yamaha dealer.

After the engine has stalled:

10. Move the sidestand up.

11. Pull the clutch lever.

12. Push the start switch.

• Does the engine start? If YES, the system is OK and the motorcycle can be ridden. If NO, the clutch switch may not be working. The motorcycle should not be ridden until checked by a Yamaha dealer.

Before using your YAMAHA XSR700N 2022, check the following points to ensure it is in safe operating condition. Failure to inspect or maintain the vehicle properly increases the possibility of an accident or equipment damage.

The period between 0 and 1600 km (1000 mi) is the most important in your engine’s life. During this time, do not put an excessive load on the engine and avoid prolonged full-throttle operation.

• 0–1000 km (0–600 mi): Avoid prolonged operation above 5000 r/min. After 1000 km (600 mi), the engine oil must be changed and the oil filter cartridge replaced.

• 1000–1600 km (600–1000 mi): Avoid prolonged operation above 6000 r/min.

• 1600 km (1000 mi) and beyond: The vehicle can now be operated normally. However, keep the engine speed out of the high-r/min zone of the tachometer.

If any engine trouble occurs during the break-in period, have a Yamaha dealer check the vehicle immediately.

The ignition circuit cut-off system will enable starting only when the transmission is in neutral OR when the transmission is in gear, the sidestand is up, and the clutch lever is pulled.

1. Turn the main switch on and set the engine stop switch to the run position.

2. Confirm that indicator and warning lights come on for a few seconds, then go off.

3. Shift the transmission into the neutral position.

4. Start the engine by pushing the start switch.

5. Release the start switch when the engine starts, or after 5 seconds. Wait 10 seconds before pressing again to allow battery voltage to restore.

For maximum engine life, never accelerate hard when the engine is cold.

To start out and accelerate:

1. Pull the clutch lever to disengage the clutch.

2. Shift the transmission into first gear.

3. Open the throttle gradually and, at the same time, release the clutch lever slowly.

4. At the recommended shift points, close the throttle and quickly pull the clutch lever in.

5. Shift to the next higher gear.

6. Open the throttle part way and gradually release the clutch lever.

To decelerate:

1. Release the throttle and apply both front and rear brakes smoothly.

2. At the recommended shift points, shift to a lower gear.

Always use the clutch while changing gears to avoid damaging the engine and transmission.

The recommended shift points during acceleration and deceleration are shown in the table below:

Shift up points:

• 1st → 2nd: 20 km/h (12 mph)

• 2nd → 3rd: 30 km/h (19 mph)

• 3rd → 4th: 40 km/h (25 mph)

• 4th → 5th: 50 km/h (31 mph)

• 5th → 6th: 60 km/h (37 mph)

Shift down points:

• 6th → 5th: 45 km/h (28 mph)

• 5th → 4th: 35 km/h (22 mph)

• 4th → 3rd: 25 km/h (16 mph)

When parking, stop the engine and then remove the key from the main switch.

• The engine and exhaust system can become very hot. Park in a place where pedestrians or children are not likely to touch them.

• Do not park on a slope or on soft ground, otherwise the vehicle may overturn, increasing the risk of a fuel leak and fire.

• Do not park near grass or other flammable materials which might catch fire.

To check the engine oil level:

1. Place the vehicle on a level surface and hold it upright.

2. Start the engine, warm it up for several minutes, then turn it off.

3. Wait a few minutes for the oil to settle, then check the oil level through the check window on the bottom-left side of the crankcase. The oil level should be between the minimum and maximum level marks.

4. If the oil is below the minimum mark, add enough recommended oil to raise it to the correct level.

To change the engine oil:

1. Warm up the engine, then turn it off.

2. Place an oil pan under the engine.

3. Remove the engine oil filler cap, the engine oil drain bolt, and its gasket to drain the oil.

4. If replacing the oil filter, remove the old cartridge with an oil filter wrench.

5. Apply a thin coat of clean engine oil to the O-ring of the new oil filter cartridge and install it, tightening to the specified torque (17 N·m or 13 lb·ft).

6. Install the engine oil drain bolt with a new gasket and tighten to the specified torque (43 N·m or 32 lb·ft).

7. Refill with the specified amount of recommended engine oil.

8. Install the oil filler cap.

9. Start the engine and check for leaks. The oil pressure warning light should go off.

10. Turn off the engine and re-check the oil level.

Check the coolant level when the engine is cold.

1. Park the vehicle on a level surface.

2. With the vehicle in an upright position, look at the coolant level in the reservoir. It should be between the minimum and maximum level marks.

3. If the coolant is at or below the minimum level mark, remove the coolant reservoir cap. Never attempt to remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot.

4. Add recommended coolant to the maximum level mark.

5. Install the coolant reservoir cap.

The coolant must be changed at the intervals specified in the periodic maintenance chart. This should be done by a Yamaha dealer.

Tire air pressure should be checked and adjusted before each ride when the tires are cold (i.e., when the temperature of the tires equals the ambient temperature). Improper tire pressure can cause loss of control.

Cold tire air pressure:

• Front: 225 kPa (2.25 kgf/cm², 33 psi)

• Rear: 250 kPa (2.50 kgf/cm², 36 psi)

Maximum load:

• 169 kg (374 lb) (Combined weight of rider, passenger, cargo, and accessories)

The tires must be checked before each ride. It is dangerous to ride with a worn-out tire.

• Check the tire tread depth. If the tread shows crosswise lines (reaching the wear indicator), have the tire replaced immediately.

• Minimum tire tread depth (front and rear): 1.0 mm (0.04 in)

• Check for nails, glass fragments, or cracks in the sidewall. If any damage is found, have a Yamaha dealer replace the tire.

• Ride at moderate speeds for approximately 100 km (60 mi) after changing a tire to allow it to be “broken in”.

Measure the clutch lever free play at the end of the lever. The specified free play is 5.0–10.0 mm (0.20–0.39 in).

To adjust at the lever:

• To increase free play, turn the adjusting bolt (at the clutch lever) in direction (a).

• To decrease free play, turn the adjusting bolt in direction (b).

If specified free play cannot be obtained at the lever:

1. Fully turn the adjusting bolt at the clutch lever in direction (a) to loosen the cable.

2. Loosen the locknut at the crankcase.

3. To increase free play, turn the adjusting nut at the crankcase in direction (a). To decrease free play, turn the adjusting nut in direction (b).

4. Tighten the locknut.

Front Brake Pads:

Each front brake pad has wear indicators. To check for wear, check the position of the wear indicators while applying the brake. If a pad has worn to the point that a wear indicator almost touches the brake disc, have a Yamaha dealer replace the brake pads as a set.

Rear Brake Pads:

Each rear brake pad has wear indicator grooves. To check for wear, check the grooves. If a brake pad has worn to the point that a wear indicator groove almost disappears, have a Yamaha dealer replace the brake pads as a set.

Before riding, check that the brake fluid is above the minimum level mark in both the front and rear reservoirs. Replenish the brake fluid if necessary. Use only DOT 4 brake fluid from a sealed container.

• Front Brake Reservoir: Check the fluid level with the top of the reservoir level.

• Rear Brake Reservoir: Located on the right side of the motorcycle.

A low brake fluid level may indicate worn brake pads or a system leak. Check the brake pads for wear and the brake system for leakage. If the fluid level goes down suddenly, have the vehicle checked by a Yamaha dealer.

To check the drive chain slack:

1. Place the motorcycle on the sidestand with no weight on it.

2. Shift the transmission into neutral.

3. Push down on the drive chain under the end of the drive chain guard.

4. Measure distance A between the drive chain guard and the center of the chain. The correct slack is 51.0–56.0 mm (2.01–2.20 in).

To adjust the drive chain slack:

1. Loosen the locknut at each end of the swingarm, then loosen the axle nut.

2. To tighten the chain, turn the adjusting nut at each end of the swingarm in direction (a). To loosen the chain, turn the adjusting nut in direction (b) and push the rear wheel forward.

3. Use the alignment marks on each side of the swingarm to ensure the adjusting plates are in the same position for proper wheel alignment.

4. Tighten the axle nut (105 N·m, 77 lb·ft), then tighten the locknuts (16 N·m, 12 lb·ft).

The drive chain must be cleaned and lubricated regularly, especially after riding in dusty or wet areas.

1. Clean the drive chain with a drive chain cleaner and a small soft brush. Do not use steam cleaners, high-pressure washers, or inappropriate solvents to avoid damaging the O-rings.

2. Wipe the drive chain dry.

3. Thoroughly lubricate the drive chain with a special O-ring chain lubricant. Do not use engine oil or other lubricants, as they may contain substances that could damage the O-rings.

To access the battery:

1. Remove the seat.

2. Remove the seat holder by removing the bolts.

3. Remove the diagnostic connector by pulling it upward.

4. Remove the battery cover by removing the bolts.

To charge the battery:

This model has a VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid) battery. To charge it, a special (constant-voltage) battery charger is required. Using a conventional charger will damage the battery. It is recommended to have a Yamaha dealer charge the battery.

To store the battery:

1. If the vehicle will be unused for more than one month, remove the battery, fully charge it, and store it in a cool, dry place.

2. If stored for more than two months, check it at least once a month and fully charge it if necessary.

Storing a discharged battery can cause permanent damage.

If a fuse is blown, replace it as follows:

1. Turn the main switch and the electrical circuit in question off.

2. Access the fuses under the seat by removing the seat, seat holder, and battery cover.

3. Remove the blown fuse and install a new fuse of the specified amperage. Do not use a fuse of a higher amperage rating.

4. Turn the main switch on and check if the device operates.

5. If the fuse blows again immediately, have a Yamaha dealer check the electrical system.

Specified Fuses:

• Main fuse: 30.0 A

• Accessory fuse: 7.5 A

• Auxiliary fuse: 3.0 A

• Headlight fuse: 7.5 A

• Signaling system fuse: 7.5 A

• Ignition fuse: 10.0 A

• Radiator fan motor fuse: 10.0 A

• ABS motor fuse: 30.0 A

• ABS solenoid fuse: 20.0 A

• ABS ECU fuse: 7.5 A

• Fuel injection system fuse: 10.0 A

• Backup fuse (for clock): 7.5 A

Follow these steps to check vital systems if you have poor starting or loss of power.

1. Fuel:

• Check the fuel level in the tank. If there is fuel, check the battery. If there is no fuel, supply fuel. If the engine still does not start, check the battery.

2. Battery:

• Operate the electric starter. If the engine turns over quickly, the battery is good; check the ignition. If the engine turns over slowly, check the battery lead connections and charge the battery if necessary.

3. Ignition:

• Remove the spark plug and check the electrodes. If they are wet, wipe them with a dry cloth, correct the gap, or replace the plug(s), then try starting the engine. If they are dry, have a Yamaha dealer check the vehicle.

4. Compression:

• Try starting the engine. If there is compression but the engine does not start, have a dealer check the vehicle. If there is no compression, have a dealer check the vehicle.

If the engine overheats, follow this procedure:

1. Wait until the engine has cooled down.

2. Check the coolant level in the reservoir and radiator. Do not remove the radiator cap when the engine and radiator are hot.

3. If the coolant level is low, check the cooling system for leakage.

• If there is a leak, have a Yamaha dealer check and repair the system.

• If there is no leak, add coolant. If coolant is not available, tap water can be used temporarily, but it should be replaced with the recommended coolant as soon as possible.

4. If the coolant level is OK, you can start the engine. If the engine overheats again, have a Yamaha dealer check and repair the cooling system.

Frequent, thorough cleaning will enhance the appearance and extend the life of your motorcycle.

• For models with matte colored parts, consult a Yamaha dealer for advice on cleaning products. Using a brush, harsh chemicals, or cleaning compounds will scratch or damage the surface. Do not apply wax to matte finished parts.

• Do not use high-pressure washers or steam-jet cleaners, as they can cause water seepage into bearings, brakes, and electrical components.

• Avoid harsh chemicals, including strong acidic wheel cleaners, abrasive compounds, or wax on matte-finished parts.

• Use only soft sponges or towels on matte finishes.

• Do not use towels, sponges, or brushes contaminated with abrasive cleaning products or strong chemicals.

Before washing:

1. Park the vehicle out of direct sunlight and let it cool.

2. Ensure all caps, covers, and electrical connectors are tightly installed.

3. Cover the muffler end with a plastic bag.

4. Pre-soak stubborn stains like insects with a wet towel.

5. Remove grime and oil with a biodegradable degreaser. Do not use on seals, gaskets, or wheel axles.

Washing:

1. Rinse off any degreaser and spray down the vehicle with a garden hose using only enough pressure to do the job.

2. Wash with a quality automotive-type detergent mixed with cool water and a soft, clean towel or sponge.

3. Rinse off thoroughly with clean water to remove all detergent residue.

Before storing your vehicle for 60 days or more:

1. Follow all instructions in the “Care” section.

2. Fill the fuel tank and add fuel stabilizer according to product instructions. Run the engine for 5 minutes to distribute the treated fuel.

3. To protect cylinders from corrosion, remove each spark plug and pour a teaspoonful of engine oil into the spark plug bore. Turn the engine over several times with the starter (with spark plugs grounded on the cylinder head), then reinstall the plugs and caps.

4. Lubricate all control cables, pivots, levers, and pedals.

5. Check and correct tire pressure, then lift the vehicle so both wheels are off the ground. If this is not possible, turn the wheels a little once a month.

6. Cover the muffler outlet with a plastic bag.

7. Remove the battery and fully charge it. Store it in a temperate location and recharge it once a month.
