The YAMAHA TRUE X BAR 40A is a bar-shaped speaker system that allows you to enjoy surround sound from a TV. Various functions of the voice assistant “Amazon Alexa” are available by connecting the product to the Internet.

The following accessories are included with your YAMAHA TRUE X BAR 40A:

• Remote control (Remove the battery insulating strip before attempting to use the remote control. A lithium battery (CR2025×1) has already been inserted into the remote control.)

To connect your YAMAHA TRUE X BAR 40A to a TV with an eARC/ARC compatible HDMI port, follow these steps:

1. Connect an HDMI cable (commercially available, compatible with eARC/ARC) from the HDMI OUT (eARC/ARC) port on the sound bar to the HDMI IN (eARC/ARC) port on your TV.

2. On the TV, enable the HDMI control function and set the audio output to an external system (ARC).

If your TV is not equipped with an HDMI eARC/ARC port, connect the YAMAHA TRUE X BAR 40A using the included digital optical audio cable. Remove the caps on both ends of the cable before connecting it from the TV’s optical output to the sound bar’s OPTICAL input.

1. Connect the sound bar to power using the included power cord to an AC wall outlet. After connecting the power, wait while some of the indicators on the front of the sound bar flash for approximately one minute. When the indicators stop flashing and turn off, proceed to the next step.

2. On the remote control, press the power button to turn on the sound bar. All the indicators will glow, and then some indicators will remain glowing according to the setting status. Pressing the power button again turns the sound bar off.

To configure the network connection settings for your YAMAHA TRUE X BAR 40A to play streaming services or use Amazon Alexa, follow these steps:

1. Search for “Sound Bar Controller” on the App Store or Google Play and install it on your mobile device.

2. Open the app and follow the on-screen instructions to configure the settings for:

• Network connection

• Firmware update

• Amazon Alexa settings

These can also be skipped and then configured later in the app’s menus.

When a new version of the firmware is released, the UPDATE indicator on the front of the YAMAHA TRUE X BAR 40A will flash green. You should update the firmware to keep the sound bar functioning optimally. Use the Sound Bar Controller app to update the sound bar’s firmware.

Note: This indicator can only show whether an update is available when the sound bar is connected to the Internet and is also turned on.

Amazon Alexa is a cloud-based voice assistant service. To use Alexa with your YAMAHA TRUE X BAR 40A, simply say “Alexa” to the sound bar and then use voice commands to control the sound bar, play music, and more.

To use Alexa, you must prepare the following and connect the sound bar to the Internet:

• An Amazon account

• A paid subscription may be required to use Amazon Music or Amazon Kindle on the product.
