To activate the Stop and Start System:

1. Turn the main switch on.

2. Set the Stop and Start System switch to the position marked with the “A” symbol.

3. The Stop and Start System indicator light will come on.

The system activates when the following conditions are met: The switch is set to on, the engine is warmed up and left idling for a certain period, and the vehicle has traveled at a speed of 10 km/h or higher.

If the Stop and Start System indicator light is flashing and the engine is stopped, simply turn the throttle grip. The engine will restart automatically and the indicator light will stop flashing.

1. Turn the handlebars all the way to the left.

2. Push the key in from the “OFF” position, release it, and then turn it to “LOCK”.

3. Remove the key.

If the steering will not lock, try turning the handlebars back to the right slightly.

To open the keyhole shutter: Insert the keyhole shutter key into the keyhole shutter receptacle and turn the key to the right.

To close the keyhole shutter: Insert the keyhole shutter key into the keyhole shutter receptacle and turn the key to the left, or push the “PUSH SHUT” switch.

1. Turn the vehicle off.

2. While pushing the “MENU” switch, turn the vehicle on.

3. Continue to push the “MENU” switch until the display unit setting screen comes on (approximately 5 seconds).

4. Push the “MENU” switch once to switch the display units.

5. Push the “MENU” switch for 1 second to confirm the setting.

1. Push the “MENU” switch until the hour digits start flashing.

2. Use the “MENU” switch to set the hours.

3. Push the “MENU” switch until the minute digits start flashing.

4. Use the “MENU” switch to set the minutes.

5. Push the “MENU” switch until the minute digits stop flashing. The setting is confirmed.

1. Select the oil change tripmeter on the display.

2. Push the “MENU” switch until “OIL” and the tripmeter start flashing.

3. While “OIL” and the tripmeter are flashing, push the “MENU” switch until the tripmeter is reset.

Note: When the engine oil has been changed, the oil change tripmeter and the oil change indicator must be reset.

To open the fuel tank cap lid: Turn the main switch to “OPEN” position and push the “FUEL” button.

To open the fuel tank cap: Turn it counterclockwise and pull it off.

To install the fuel tank cap: Turn it clockwise until the triangle mark is facing forward. Close the fuel tank cap lid.

1. Open the seat.

2. Attach a helmet to a helmet holder located under the seat.

3. Securely close the seat.

To release a helmet, open the seat, remove the helmet from the holder, and then close the seat.

1. Turn the vehicle power off.

2. Remove the power outlet cap.

3. Turn the accessory off.

4. Insert the accessory plug into the power outlet.

5. Turn the vehicle power on and start the engine.

6. Turn the accessory on.

When finished riding, turn off the accessory and disconnect it from the power outlet, and then install the cap. Do not use the power outlet when the engine is off.

1. Place the vehicle on the centerstand.

2. Turn the main switch on.

3. Put the sidestand up.

4. Push the start switch while applying either of the brake levers. The engine will start.

5. Put the sidestand down.

6. If the engine stalls, the sidestand switch is OK. If it does not stall, have a Yamaha dealer inspect the vehicle.

Before using the vehicle, check the following points:

Fuel: Check fuel level, refuel if necessary. Check fuel line for leakage. Check fuel tank overflow hose for obstructions, cracks, damage, and connection.

Engine oil: Check oil level, add recommended oil if necessary. Check for leakage.

Final transmission oil: Check for leakage.

Coolant: Check coolant level in reservoir, add if necessary. Check cooling system for leakage.

Front brake: Check operation. If soft or spongy, have dealer bleed system. Check pads for wear. Check fluid level. Check hydraulic system for leakage.

Rear brake: Check operation. If soft or spongy, have dealer bleed system. Check pads for wear. Check fluid level. Check hydraulic system for leakage.

Throttle grip: Make sure operation is smooth. Check free play. Adjust/lubricate if necessary.

Control cables: Make sure operation is smooth. Lubricate if necessary.

Wheels and tires: Check for damage, tire condition, tread depth, and air pressure. Correct if necessary.

Brake levers: Make sure operation is smooth. Lubricate pivoting points if necessary.

Centerstand, sidestand: Make sure operation is smooth. Lubricate pivots if necessary.

Chassis fasteners: Make sure all nuts, bolts, and screws are properly tightened.

Instruments, lights, signals, and switches: Check operation. Correct if necessary.

Sidestand switch: Check operation of ignition circuit cut-off system.

1. Turn the main switch on.

2. Confirm the indicator and warning light(s) come on for a few seconds and then go off.

3. Close the throttle completely.

4. While applying the front or rear brake, push the start switch.

5. Release the start switch when the engine starts, or after 5 seconds.

Panel A: Remove the screws. Extend the right passenger footrest, and then pull the panel outward.

Panel B: Remove Panel A. Remove the quick fasteners and the bolt.

Panel C: Remove the windshield by removing the screws. Remove the panel by removing the screws.

1. Place the vehicle on the centerstand.

2. Remove panels A and B.

3. Remove the spark plug cap.

4. Remove the spark plug using the spark plug wrench in the tool kit.

5. Check the porcelain insulator color (should be medium-to-light tan).

6. Check for electrode erosion and carbon deposits. Replace if necessary with Specified spark plug: NGK/CPR8EA-9.

7. Measure the spark plug gap. It should be 0.8–0.9 mm (0.031–0.035 in).

8. Install the spark plug and tighten to 13 N·m (1.3 kgf·m, 9.6 lb·ft).

9. Install the spark plug cap and panels.

1. Start the engine, warm it up, then turn it off.

2. Place an oil pan under the engine.

3. Remove the engine oil filler cap and engine oil drain bolts A and B to drain the oil.

4. Clean the engine oil strainer with solvent, check for damage, and replace if necessary.

5. Install the strainer, compression spring, new O-ring, and drain bolt B. Torque bolt B to 32 N·m.

6. Install drain bolt A with a new gasket. Torque bolt A to 20 N·m.

7. Refill with the specified amount of recommended engine oil (0.90 L for oil change).

8. Install and tighten the oil filler cap.

9. Start the engine, check for leakage, then turn off and check oil level.

10. Reset the oil change tripmeter.

1. Start the engine, warm up the oil, then stop the engine.

2. Place an oil pan under the final transmission case.

3. Remove the final transmission oil filler cap and its O-ring.

4. Remove the final transmission oil drain bolt and its gasket to drain the oil.

5. Install the drain bolt with a new gasket and tighten to 20 N·m.

6. Refill with the specified amount of recommended final transmission oil (0.10 L).

7. Install the oil filler cap and its new O-ring.

8. Check for oil leakage.

1. Place the vehicle on the centerstand.

2. Check the coolant level through the check window. The level should be between the minimum and maximum level marks.

3. If low, remove the right floorboard mat and the coolant reservoir cover.

4. Remove the coolant reservoir cap and add coolant to the maximum level mark.

5. Install the reservoir cap, cover, and floorboard mat.

Air Filter Element: Remove the air filter case cover. Pull out the element. Insert a new air filter element. Do not clean the paper element with compressed air; it must be replaced.

V-belt Case Air Filter Element:

1. Remove the V-belt case air filter element cover.

2. Pull the element out and clean it with solvent. Remove remaining solvent.

3. Apply recommended oil to the sponge material and squeeze out excess oil.

4. Insert the element and install the cover.

Measure the throttle grip free play at the throttle grip flange. The free play should be 3.0–5.0 mm (0.12–0.20 in). Periodically check this and have a Yamaha dealer adjust it if necessary.

1. Turn off the electrical circuit in question and the main switch.

2. Remove Panel C.

3. Remove the blown fuse from the fuse box.

4. Install a new fuse of the specified amperage.

5. Turn the main switch on and check operation.

6. Install Panel C.

1. Place the vehicle on the centerstand.

2. Remove the turn signal light bulb socket by turning it counterclockwise.

3. Remove the burnt-out bulb by pulling it out.

4. Insert a new bulb into the socket.

5. Install the socket by turning it clockwise.

1. Open the seat and remove the grab bar.

2. Remove the taillight cover by removing the screws.

3. Remove the bulb socket by turning it counterclockwise.

4. Remove the burnt-out bulb by pulling it out.

5. Insert a new bulb.

6. Install the socket, taillight cover, and grab bar.

1. Fuel: Check fuel level. If no fuel, supply fuel.

2. Battery: Operate electric starter. If engine turns over slowly, check battery lead connections and charge battery.

3. Ignition: Remove spark plug and check electrodes. Wipe off with dry cloth, correct gap, or replace. Try starting.

4. Compression: If there is no compression, have a Yamaha dealer check the vehicle.

1. Wait until the engine has cooled.

2. Check the coolant level in the reservoir and radiator.

3. If there is a leak, have a Yamaha dealer repair it.

4. If there is no leak, add coolant.

5. Start the engine. If it overheats again, have a Yamaha dealer check the cooling system.

1. Make necessary repairs and maintenance.

2. Clean the vehicle.

3. Fill the fuel tank and add fuel stabilizer. Run the engine for 5 minutes.

4. Protect internal engine components (remove spark plug, pour a teaspoon of engine oil in bore, turn engine over, reinstall plug).

5. Lubricate control cables, pivots, levers, and stands.

6. Check tire pressure and lift wheels off the ground if possible.

7. Cover the muffler outlet.

8. Remove the battery and charge it fully.

9. Store in a cool, dry place with a porous cover.
