How do I replace an existing RV antenna wall plate with the WINEGARD SENSARPRO?

To replace an existing wall plate with your WINEGARD SENSARPRO, follow these steps:

1. Remove the two screws used to mount the existing wall plate. Carefully pull the wall plate from the wall to reach the connections on the back.

2. Disconnect the 12 VDC power (labeled as ‘1’ on older models) from the existing wall plate. Mark this cable as POWER. Note that not all installations use red for power and black for ground, so it is important to identify the wire connected to the POWER terminal.

3. Mark the cables for ANTENNA, CABLE, TV1, and TV2.

4. Unscrew each of these marked cables from the existing wall plate, ensuring they do not fall back into the wall.

5. Finally, disconnect the GROUND (labeled as ‘2’ on older models) from the existing wall plate.

6. Set the old wall plate aside as it is no longer needed. You can now proceed to install the WINEGARD SENSARPRO.

How do I perform a new installation of the WINEGARD SENSARPRO?

Begin by selecting a location for the WINEGARD SENSARPRO. Keep the following in mind:

• It must be accessible.

• It must be connected to the antenna, television(s), and 12V DC power.

• It will extend one inch into the mounting surface.

• Try to avoid installing it on an exterior wall.

Once a location has been selected, cut a 3.30″ tall by 1.87″ wide section in the wall for the back of the WINEGARD SENSARPRO and the cables. A template is provided in the manual. If you are unable to cut out the tabs using the template, you will need to install the Spacer.

When and how should I use the spacer for my WINEGARD SENSARPRO installation?

The spacer is needed for most installations. If you are not using an outlet box, or if you are unable to cut out the tabs on the installation template, the spacer may be needed. The tabs on the template are not needed when using the spacer.

To install the spacer, place the spacer over the hole you cut out for the WINEGARD SENSARPRO. Screw the spacer to the wall with two mounting screws. Then, continue with installing the WINEGARD SENSARPRO.

How do I connect the cables and secure the WINEGARD SENSARPRO to the wall?

The back of the WINEGARD SENSARPRO wall plate has four labeled cables:

• 3 = Antenna (ANT IN)

• 4 = Cable (CABLE IN)

• 5 = TV2

• 6 = TV1

1. Connect the cable coming from the antenna to the cable labeled ANT IN (3) on the WINEGARD SENSARPRO. Repeat this for CABLE IN, TV1, and TV2. If you need more than two televisions, a splitter can be connected to TV2.

2. Connect the 12 VDC power. The POWER wire should be connected to the post marked “+” (1). The GROUND wire should be connected to the post marked “-” (2). The input voltage must be between 9 and 16 volts DC with a maximum draw of 500 mA.

3. With all cables connected, carefully feed them back into the hole in the wall.

4. Align the mounting holes on the WINEGARD SENSARPRO so they form a line perpendicular to the floor. If you used the spacer, align the holes on the wall plate with the holes in the spacer.

5. Pre-drill mounting holes if this is a new installation.

6. Insert two of the provided mounting screws and secure the WINEGARD SENSARPRO to the wall.

What is the basic procedure for finding TV channels with my WINEGARD SENSARPRO?

1. Once your vehicle is set up, begin by raising the antenna.

2. Turn on the WINEGARD SENSARPRO by pressing the SELECT button until the lights beside ANTENNA-SCAN are lit.

3. In SCAN mode, the unit will display a signal strength and an RF channel number. Slowly rotate the antenna handle clockwise. If signal strength increases, continue rotating until it begins to drop, then move it back to the strongest point. If the signal gets weaker, rotate counter-clockwise.

4. Once the signal is maximized, press SELECT to move to ANTENNA-SEEK mode. In SEEK mode, press the UP button to see how many channels are available. Channels with a strength below 40 may not be watchable.

5. Rotate the antenna 90° and repeat the scan and seek steps until the antenna has returned to its starting direction. This is because most areas have channels in multiple directions.

6. Move the antenna to the direction that had the most watchable channels.

7. Turn on your television and run a channel scan. Consult your television manual for instructions. This will input the channels into the TV. The channel numbers on the TV scan may not match the RF channel numbers found on the signal meter.

How does the signal meter on the WINEGARD SENSARPRO work?

The digital television transition caused many broadcasters to move to a different broadcast frequency (RF channel) while still marketing themselves by their old channel number. For example, a station may call itself channel 6 but actually broadcast on RF channel 36.

A television tuner can translate this information, but it slows down the process, making real-time signal strength measurement impossible. For this reason, the WINEGARD SENSARPRO displays only the broadcast or RF channel number, not the virtual channel number you see on your TV.

What are the main operating modes of the WINEGARD SENSARPRO?

The WINEGARD SENSARPRO has two main modes, which can be cycled through using the SELECT button:

PARK CABLE (OFF): In this mode, the unit is essentially off. The park cable system connection will pass through the wall plate without interference from the WINEGARD SENSARPRO amplifier.

ANTENNA (ON): This mode is broken into five sub-modes designed to help you find and tune broadcast television signals: SCAN, SEEK, CHANNEL, GAIN, and VOLUME. When in any of these modes, the antenna and the selected mode light will be lit.

How do I use the SCAN mode on my WINEGARD SENSARPRO?

In SCAN mode, the WINEGARD SENSARPRO checks each RF television channel between 2 and 51 for signal strength. It will then display the signal strength and channel number for the strongest signal found during the scan. The unit will remain on that channel until the UP or DOWN buttons are pressed. Pressing either button will start a new scan. If nothing (-) is showing in the displays, no channels are available, and the gain should be checked.

How do I use the SEEK mode on my WINEGARD SENSARPRO?

In SEEK mode, the WINEGARD SENSARPRO works like a car radio, cycling through each RF channel and displaying only viable channels. When it finds a channel, it displays a live signal reading and the RF channel number. You can then peak the channel for maximum signal strength by slowly rotating the antenna. Generally, a channel with a signal strength of 40 or above can be watched. To search for the next channel, press either the UP or DOWN button. SEEK mode is not intended for making large antenna aiming corrections, as this can cause channels to be missed.

How do I use the CHANNEL mode on my WINEGARD SENSARPRO?

In CHANNEL mode, the WINEGARD SENSARPRO will continuously scan for the specific RF channel shown in the MODE DISPLAY. This mode is used to find low strength signals. By focusing on a single RF channel, the signal meter allows the antenna to be aimed precisely at a weak or distant RF channel. Use the UP or DOWN buttons to select a different RF channel.

How do I adjust the GAIN on my WINEGARD SENSARPRO?

The WINEGARD SENSARPRO contains an adjustable amplifier (GAIN). While in GAIN mode, you can:

• Increase the gain by pressing the UP arrow. This can help improve a weak channel that is not quite watchable.

• Decrease the gain by pressing the DOWN arrow. This can prevent a strong signal from overloading the television tuner. If a signal is too strong, you might see a high number on the signal strength display but no picture on the TV. Turning down the gain will stop this overloading.

In most situations, the optimal gain will be 10, which is the factory preset. The gain should not need to be changed in most cases. Note that the audio tone is muted in GAIN mode.

How do I use the audio tone (VOLUME mode) on my WINEGARD SENSARPRO?

The WINEGARD SENSARPRO has an audio tone that can help you peak a signal when the meter is not easily visible from where you are adjusting the antenna. To use the tone:

1. Press the MODE SELECT button until the VOLUME light is on.

2. Press the UP button until the tone can be clearly heard. The tone’s pitch will change as the signal strength changes, allowing you to aim the antenna by listening.

If the signal remains steady and no buttons are pressed, the tone will last for ten seconds before muting. In VOLUME mode, the WINEGARD SENSARPRO will return to SCAN mode if no button is pushed for 3 seconds.

What is Sleep Mode on the WINEGARD SENSARPRO?

If no button on the WINEGARD SENSARPRO is pressed for three minutes, the unit will enter SLEEP mode. This turns off all of its displays and the buzzer. While in SLEEP mode, the WINEGARD SENSARPRO will still provide signal to the TV but will remain unlit until a button is pressed.

How do I reset my WINEGARD SENSARPRO if it is not functioning correctly?

If the WINEGARD SENSARPRO does not function as the guide indicates, you can perform a reset. Press and hold both the UP and DOWN buttons at the same time for 3 seconds. This will reset the WINEGARD SENSARPRO.
