What should I check after unpacking my ULVAC G-50SA?

Upon unpacking the ULVAC G-50SA pump, check the following:

(1) Is the pump the correct model you ordered?

(2) Is any part of the pump damaged in transit?

(3) Are the specified accessories included?

If you find any problem, contact your local representative. In your contact with them, let them know the serial number of your pump along with the model name.

What are the environmental conditions for storing, installing, and operating the ULVAC G-50SA?

Since the ULVAC G-50SA pump is precisely engineered, ensure that the following conditions are satisfied during storage, installation, and operation:

(1) Ambient temperature, relative humidity: 7°C – 40°C 85% RH or less

(2) Height above sea level during storage and installation: 1000 m or less

(3) Minimum required distances from the wall: 100mm or more

(4) Other conditions for storage and operation:

a. Free from corrosive and explosive gases.

b. No condensation.

c. Dust-free environment.

d. Indoors.

e. Do not place pumps on top of each other or place a pump on its side.

f. Not subject to direct sunlight.

g. Far from heat sources.

h. When you keep it for a long period of time, put pump oil into a pump and seal an inlet port with a cap.

i. Don’t keep it where moisture is attracted.

How should I install the ULVAC G-50SA?

Install the ULVAC G-50SA pump level with the inlet facing up. The pump should be installed on a level surface in a location with minimal dust, dirt and humidity and be arranged with consideration given to ease of installation, removal, inspection and cleaning.

How do I perform lubrication on the ULVAC G-50SA?

Remove the oil-filling plug, and then fill the oil (one time charge) to the ULVAC G-50SA pump or recommended oil (SMR-100) up to the specified quantity through the oil filling port. In the first oil charging, pour the oil up to the maximum scale of the oil gauge. Then, attach the exhaust port.

The oil quantity must be checked or adjusted to keep the oil quantity always in the range of the oil gauge during pump operation. Improper oil quantity may cause performance deterioration of the pump, and may also cause damage. When the oil quantity is out of the gauge scale, the ultimate pressure becomes higher, and it may cause a bubbling sound like “poko poko”.

How should the vacuum piping be set up for the ULVAC G-50SA?

For the ULVAC G-50SA, install the shut off valve (A) and the pump vent valve (B) in between the pump inlet port and the vessel.

What should I know about the electric wiring for the ULVAC G-50SA?

(1) The ULVAC G-50SA pump has had electric wiring performed beforehand by the side of the pump. If the motor specification is single-phase 100V, the power cord will be a power cord with a plug. Power cords other than single-phase 100V use 3-core loose ends.

(2) Make sure the working power supply voltage is consistent with the motor working voltage.

(3) Connect the power cord of the pump to the power supply.

(4) An over-load protector (thermal protector, manual reset type) is provided for this pump.

How do I start the ULVAC G-50SA?

To start the ULVAC G-50SA, close the pump vent valve (B); open the shut-off valve (A) to the inlet port of the pump, then turn on the power switch to start operation. The pump begins running.

How do I shut down the ULVAC G-50SA?

To shut down the ULVAC G-50SA, close shut off valve (A), open pump vent valve (B), then turn off the power switch of the pump.

If stopping the pump without opening the pump vent valve, the oil will be filled inside the pump cylinder within several minutes. This may cause back flowing of oil to the vacuum vessel. For the next operation, restarting the pump will be difficult because of not-so-smooth rotation, thermal protector operating, or motor firing by over loading.

What should I do if the ULVAC G-50SA stops due to an electric stoppage?

When stopping the ULVAC G-50SA pump operation by electric stoppage, close the shut off valve (A) quickly and then open the pump vent valve (B).

What is the thermal protector on the ULVAC G-50SA and what should I do if it activates?

The ULVAC G-50SA incorporates an overload protector (Thermal protector, manual reset type). The thermal protector activates when the pump motor is overloaded (e.g., locked rotor, out of range of voltage, close ventilation).

When the thermal protector has been actuated, turn off the switch. The motor is very hot when the thermal protector has actuated. Never touch it with your hand. When the cause of the malfunction has been eliminated, check that the motor has cooled down, and restart operation.

The use of another protective device (such as an earth leakage breaker) in addition to the overload protector is recommended.

Can I install an optional oil mist trap on the ULVAC G-50SA?

An oil mist trap can be installed in order to remove oil mist from the ULVAC G-50SA pump. As such an oil mist trap, model OMT-050A is available. Remove the standard outlet port from the outlet port of the pump and install an oil mist trap instead. The oil mist trap not only prevents oil mist generation but also reduces exhaust noise. For details, refer to the instruction manual for the oil mist trap.

When and how should I replace the pump oil in the ULVAC G-50SA?

The pressure of the vacuum device may increase due to the deterioration of the pump oil. In such a case, close the inlet port of the pump and check that the specified ultimate pressure has been reached. If not, follow the pump oil replacement procedure:

(1) Unplug the inlet port and operate the pump for 5 seconds. This will discharge the remaining oil inside the pump effectively.

(2) Remove the outlet port and drain plug to discharge the pump oil.

(3) Plug the drain port; charge the recommended new oil as a fixed quantity from the exhaust port.
