Before plugging in the supplied main cord, check that the VOLTAGE SELECTOR on the rear side has been set to the voltage standard of your country. The corresponding fuse size is printed on the rear panel and must be correct as well. To change the voltage or access the fuse, use a screwdriver to lift up the fuse holder/voltage selector part. The 4 available voltages (100-120-220-240 V) are marked into the fuseholder and the currently selected voltage is indicated by a small arrow. If changing the voltage setting, ensure the fuse size is correct as well.

Plug your instrument into the JACK INPUT on the rear panel. Output to your amplifier is taken from the JACK OUT LEFT if mono. If you want to use the stereo sound possibilities of the TC ELECTRONIC TC 2290, connect the JACK OUT RIGHT to the input of your second amplifier.

Turn up the volume of your instrument and turn down the volume(s) of your amplifier. While playing, adjust the INPUT GAIN on the front panel so that the red LED (+3dB) of the PPM meter only flashes during the very strong passages of your playing. The yellow LED (0 dB) should light momentarily when playing. Once adjusted, set the volume(s) of your amplifier(s) to your desired level.

To recall a preset, such as preset 80, press the PRESET key, then enter the number on the numeric keyboard (e.g., 8, then 0), and finally press ENTER. Note that when the PRESET key is pressed, the green LED above the key starts blinking, indicating the numeric keyboard is available for this function. At the moment you press ENTER, all displays and settings change to the values of the selected preset.

Simply press the DELAY ON key. When the LED is off, the delay effect stops. Unlike most other delays, depending on the bypass setting, there may be no repeat of what you have just played when turning on the delay. The status of the DELAY ON key is normally stored in preset parameters.

As soon as a preset is recalled, you can make instant changes to any of the parameters you want. You can then either choose to forget these changes (by recalling another or the same preset again) or you can store your modified settings under a user preset number.

In the DELAY section, you can use the UP/DOWN keys. Pressing either of them once makes the green LED above start blinking. Pressing DOWN decreases the delay time a step (1 millisecond). Holding the DOWN key will continue decreasing as long as you hold or until ‘0’ is reached. Similarly, pressing UP increases step-wise when pressed or continuously when held.

Alternatively, you can use the numeric keyboard. Press DELAY UP, then enter the exact value (e.g., 4, 0, 0 for 400ms), and press ENTER. The green LED continues blinking indicating the numeric keyboard is still available for delay time setting until terminated by ENTER.

To set the delay time to the rhythm, simply press the LEARN key at the beat-rate. The delay time will be set to the time elapsing between your pressings. The yellow TIME LED indicates this beat or echo repeat rate.

Press the SELECT key in the FEEDBACK section until the point corresponding to ‘LEVEL’ is lit. Use the UP key in the feedback section to increase the number of repeats. Reaching a value of ’10’ usually makes a second repeat audible. You can also use the numeric keyboard: Press FEEDBACK UP, enter the value (e.g., 5, 0), and press ENTER.

To store your current settings into a preset (e.g., preset 1):

1. Press PRESET.

2. Enter the preset number (e.g., 1) on the Numeric Keyboard.

3. Press STORE.

If you omit the PRESET key in the store sequence, you may get error #4 (wrong store sequence). If you try to store in presets 80-99, you will get error #3 (preset protected), as these are factory presets. Store your sound in a preset below ’80’.

The Output Section features independent control over direct and delay output volumes as well as a total output volume control. Use the SELECT key to roll between the 4 possible controls: DELAY (delay volume), DIRECT (direct signal volume), DELAY+DIRECT (total output volume), and PAN (panning position). Once the desired LED is lit, use the UP/DOWN keys to change the value.

To create a ducking effect where the echo is suppressed while playing:

1. In the MODULATION section, press SELECT until the display reads ‘DYN’.

2. Check that the waveform display shows ‘TRIG’. If not, press WAVEFORM until ‘TRIG’ is selected.

3. Press the MOD key in the DYN section to turn it ON (LED is lit).

4. The delay echo is now suppressed while you are playing and reappears gradually when you pause. The depth is controlled by the DEPTH parameter and the rate by the SPEED parameter.

1. Set a short delay time (e.g., 5-50ms).

2. Remove feedback by pressing FEEDBACK UP, 0, ENTER.

3. Press the MOD key in the DELAY section to enable delay time modulation.

4. To adjust intensity, go to the MODULATION section, select DELAY using the SELECT key, and change the DEPTH parameter.

5. To adjust the speed of the sweep, change the SPEED parameter in the MODULATION section.

You must have a stereo set-up. In the PAN section, press the DELAY/DIRECT key to select what to pan: DELAY (only echo pans), DIRECT (only direct signal pans), or both (both LEDs lit). To enable automatic panning, press the MOD key in the PAN section. The panning speed and width are controlled by the SPEED and DEPTH values in the MODULATION section when ‘PAN’ is selected.

The bypass method is controlled by Special Number 26. To change it:

1. Press SPEC.

2. Enter 26 and press ENTER.

3. Enter the desired value: ‘0’ for Input mute (echo tail continues), ‘1’ for Output mute (no tail), or ‘2’ for Both mute.

4. Press ENTER.

The factory default is ‘2’ (Both mute).

Connect your external effects to the 5 SEND/RETURN loops on the rear panel. Loops 1-4 are mono send/return. Loop 5 has a stereo return for stereo chorus or digital reverb. To switch an external effect in or out, press the CHANGE key on the front panel to make the green LED flash, then switch in/out the corresponding effects loops with the 0-5 keys on the numeric keyboard.

Mono: Plug your instrument into JACK INPUT. Output is taken from JACK OUT LEFT. In mono operation, any of the L/R jack outputs will do, but none of the PAN Section DELAY/DIRECT LEDs are lit unless you specifically want the signal to be ‘panned away’.

Stereo: Connect JACK OUT LEFT and JACK OUT RIGHT to the inputs of your amplifiers. Adjust INPUT GAIN so the yellow LED lights momentarily. Carefully adjust the Left/Right outputs to the AUX inputs of your stereo amplifier if used.

Error #1: Wrong special number.

Error #2: Wrong special value.

Error #3: Preset Protected (presets 80-99 are factory set write-protected).

Error #4: Wrong Store sequence (Store must be preceded by PRESET key).

Error #13: Indicates Reset has occurred.

Error #20: Indicates Fatal Error (hardware/software fault).

Check if the front panel power switch is on and if the power mains cable is connected properly. Try connecting something else to the same outlet to ensure it works. If still no light, check the rear panel fuse and voltage setting.

If using the DIRECT output, you will get no echo/delay effects. Switch your output cable connection to the JACK or XLR LEFT output. Ensure external effects loops are turned off if not in use to check if faults are in external connections. Recall a preset (e.g., preset 80) where you know the direct, delay, and total output volumes are set higher than ‘0’. Check that DELAY ON is active and SAMPLE is off.
