To install a SIM card and an optional microSD memory card on your SPRINT SAMSUNG GALAXY S8 ACTIVE, follow these steps:

1. Insert the removal tool into the hole on the SIM card/Memory card tray, and then push until the tray pops out.

2. Turn the tray over and place the SIM card in the bottom of the tray with the gold contacts facing down.

3. To install a memory card, turn the tray over and place the memory card on the top of the tray with the gold contacts facing down.

Your SPRINT SAMSUNG GALAXY S8 ACTIVE is powered by a rechargeable battery. The battery comes partially charged. To charge it:

1. Insert the USB cable into the USB charger/Accessory port on your device.

2. Connect the USB cable to the charging head, and then plug the charging head into a standard outlet.

3. When charging is complete, unplug the charging head from the outlet and remove the USB cable from the device.

Caution: Use only charging devices approved by Samsung. Samsung accessories are designed for your device to maximize battery life. Using other accessories may void your warranty and could cause damage.

Note: You should dry the inside of the charging port before inserting a power connector. If the port is not fully dry, your device may charge more slowly, overheat, or operate abnormally.

While charging, the device and charger may become hot. This does not affect the device’s lifespan or performance and is within the normal range of operation. If the device heats up excessively, follow these steps:

1. Disconnect the charger from the device and close any running apps.

2. Wait for the device to cool down, and then begin charging the device again.

• If the lower part of the device overheats, check for damage to the connected USB cable. Replace the damaged USB cable with a new Samsung-approved cable.

• If using a wireless charger, do not place foreign materials between the device and the wireless charger.

To turn the device on:

• Press and hold the Power key until the device turns on.

To turn the device off:

1. Press and hold the Power key.

2. Tap Power off, and confirm when prompted.

You can use your device’s screen lock features to secure it. By default, the device locks automatically when the screen times out.

To lock the device:

• Press the Power key.

To unlock the device:

• Press the Power key or double-tap Home, and then drag your finger across the screen.

The default screen lock is Swipe. To choose a more secure screen lock, see the “Set a Secure Screen Lock” instructions in your user manual.

Adding accounts allows you to access various features and content on your device.

To add a Google Account:

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Cloud and accounts > Accounts.

3. Tap Add account > Google and follow the prompts.

To add a Samsung Account:

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Cloud and accounts > Accounts.

3. Tap Add account > Samsung account and follow the prompts.

You can use Smart Switch to transfer contacts, photos, and other content from your old device. You can also use the included USB connector to copy content without installing the Smart Switch app.

To use the Smart Switch app:

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps, and then tap Settings > Cloud and accounts > Smart Switch.

2. Follow the prompts and select the content to transfer.

Note: When using a USB cable, the USB option must be set to Media device (MTP) on the other device. Transferring content with a USB cable may increase battery consumption, so ensure your battery is fully charged.

Front View:

• Proximity sensor: Turns off the screen and disables touch functionality when the device is in close proximity to your body.

• Power key: Press to turn the screen on or off. Press and hold to select a power control option. Press twice quickly to launch the camera.

• Volume keys: Adjust the volume for ringtones, calls, notifications, and system sounds. In the camera app, press a volume key to take a photo.

• Bixby key: Launch the Bixby voice assistant.

Back View:

• Rear camera: For taking photos and recording videos.

• Fingerprint sensor: Used for unlocking the device and authenticating identity.

• Flash: Provides light for the camera.

Fullscreen Mode:

• To enter or exit full screen mode, double-tap the Hide/Show icon to the left of the navigation keys.

• To view hidden navigation keys in full screen mode, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.

Navigation Bar Settings:

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Display > Navigation bar for the following settings:

• Show and hide button: Add a button to show or hide the navigation bar.

The Status bar at the top of the Home screen provides device information and notification alerts.

Status Icons:

• Battery full/low/charging: Shows the battery level.

• Vibrate/Mute mode: Indicates the current sound mode.

• 4G LTE active: Shows mobile network connection.

• Signal strength: Shows cellular signal level.

• Network not available: An ‘X’ indicates no network.

• Wi-Fi active: Shows Wi-Fi connection.

• GPS active: Indicates GPS is in use.

Notification Icons:

• Missed call: A phone receiver with an arrow.

• Call in progress/on hold: Active call status.

• New email/Gmail: An envelope icon.

• New voicemail: A cassette tape icon.

• New message: A speech bubble icon.

• File download/upload in progress: Arrows indicating data transfer.

You can customize the Home screen by managing screens, adding app shortcuts, widgets, and changing wallpapers and themes.

Manage Home Screens:

1. From a Home screen, pinch the screen.

2. Use the options to manage screens:

• Touch and hold a screen to drag it to a new position.

• Tap Add to add a new screen.

• Tap the trash can icon (Remove) to remove a screen.

• Tap the home icon (Main) on a screen to set it as the main Home screen.

Add App Shortcuts and Widgets:

• App Shortcuts: From the Apps screen, touch and hold an app shortcut, then select “Add shortcut to home”.

• Widgets: From a Home screen, pinch the screen and tap Widgets. Touch and hold a widget, drag it to a Home screen, and release it.

Change Wallpapers and Themes:

1. From a Home screen, pinch the screen.

2. Tap Wallpapers and themes to customize wallpapers, themes, and icons.

View the Notification Panel:

1. Drag the Status bar down from the top of any screen to display the Notification panel.

2. Swipe down the list to see notification details.

• To open an item, tap it.

• To clear a single notification, drag it left or right.

• To clear all notifications, tap Clear all.

3. Drag upward from the bottom of the screen or tap Back to close the panel.

Access Quick Settings:

1. Drag the Status bar down to display the Notification panel.

2. Drag the Quick Settings bar downward to view all options.

Bixby is a virtual assistant that learns your routines and helps you with various tasks.

Access Bixby Home:

Use Bixby Voice Assistant:

1. Press and hold the Bixby key.

2. Say a command.

3. Release the Bixby key when you are finished speaking.

Use Bixby Vision:

Bixby Vision provides a deeper understanding of what you see through your camera or in your gallery.

• From Camera: Open the Camera app, tap the Bixby Vision icon, and follow the prompts.

• From Gallery: Open the Gallery app, select a picture, tap the Bixby Vision icon, and follow the prompts.

The Always On Display (AOD) feature allows you to view notifications, time, and date without unlocking your device.

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Lock screen and security > Always On Display.

3. Tap the switch to turn the feature On/Off, and then set the following options:

• Content to show: Choose to show the Home button, a clock, or information.

• Clock style: Select a layout for the standby screen.

• Show always: Enable to show the AOD at all times, or set a schedule.

• About Always On Display: View software version and license information.

To use biometric security, you must first set a pattern, PIN, or password.

To Register a Face:

1. From Apps, tap Settings > Lock screen and security > Face recognition.

2. Follow the prompts to register your face.

To Register a Fingerprint:

1. From Apps, tap Settings > Lock screen and security > Fingerprint scanner.

2. Follow the prompts to register your fingerprint. You can register up to three.

To Register Irises:

1. From Apps, tap Settings > Lock screen and security > Iris scanner.

2. Follow the prompts to register your irises.

Multi Window allows you to use two applications at the same time in a split screen view.

1. From any screen, touch and hold the Recent apps key.

2. Tap the Multi window icon in the title bar of an app to launch it in the top half of the screen.

3. Recently opened apps that support Multi window are displayed in the lower window. Tap an app in the lower window to add it to the split screen view. If no recent apps are available, tap More apps.

Window Controls:

Tap the middle of the window border to display options to swap windows, open in pop-up view, or close an app.

You can enter text using the on-screen Samsung keyboard or your voice.

Using the Keyboard:

• Tap a text field to display the Samsung keyboard.

• Touch and hold the Options key (microphone icon) to access special keys like Voice input, Clipboard, Emoticon, and One-handed keyboard.

Configure the Samsung Keyboard:

1. From the Samsung keyboard, touch and hold the Options key.

2. Tap the settings gear icon (Keyboard settings) for options:

• Languages and types: Set the keyboard type and available languages.

• Smart typing: Use predictive text and auto-correction.

• Customization: Use alternative characters, text shortcuts, or change the keyboard size.

• Other settings: Reset keyboard settings and clear personalized data.

Emergency mode conserves battery power by restricting application usage and turning off connectivity features when the screen is off.

To Activate Emergency Mode:

1. Press and hold the Power key.

2. Tap Emergency mode.

3. Read and accept the Terms and conditions (on first use), then tap Turn on.

Available Features in Emergency Mode:

• Flashlight: Use the device’s flash as a light source.

• Emergency alarm: Sound an audible siren.

• Share my location: Send your location to emergency contacts.

• Phone: Launch the call screen.

• Internet: Launch the Web browser.

• Add: Add other available apps like Email or Maps.

To Turn Off Emergency Mode:

1. Press and hold the Power key.

2. Tap Emergency mode to disable it.

You can uninstall, disable, sort, and organize apps into folders.

Uninstall or Disable Apps:

1. From the Apps screen, touch and hold an app to open the options menu.

2. Tap Uninstall or Disable. (Note: Some preloaded apps can only be disabled).

Sort Apps:

1. From the Apps screen, tap the three-dot icon (More options) > Sort.

2. Choose Alphabetical order or Custom order.

Create and Use Folders:

1. From the Apps screen, touch and hold an app shortcut.

2. Drag it on top of another app shortcut until it is highlighted, then release to create a folder.

3. You can then enter a folder name, change the folder color, and add more apps.

Take Pictures:

1. Open the Camera app from the Apps screen.

2. Use the screen as a viewfinder. You can tap to focus, slide the light bulb icon to adjust brightness, swipe left for effects, or swipe right for shooting modes.

3. Tap the capture button to take a picture.

Record Videos:

1. Open the Camera app.

2. Tap the record button to begin recording.

• To take a picture while recording, tap the capture icon.

• To temporarily stop recording, tap Pause. Tap Resume to continue.

3. Tap the stop button when you are finished recording.

• Smart capture: Displays additional options after capturing a screenshot, such as capturing hidden areas of a scrollable screen, drawing, cropping, and sharing.

• Palm swipe to capture: Capture an image of the screen by swiping the edge of your hand across it from side to side.

Make a Call:

• From a Home screen, tap the Phone icon.

• Enter a number on the keypad and tap the green Call button.

• You can also make calls from the Recents tab or by swiping right on a contact in the Contacts app (if Swipe to call is enabled).

Answer a Call:

• When a call is received, drag the green Answer icon to the right.

• If you are using an app, a pop-up screen will appear; tap the green Answer button.

Decline a Call:

• On the incoming call screen, drag the red Decline icon to the left to reject the call and send it to voicemail.

• You can also drag the Send message option upward to decline the call with a text message response.

By adding a caller to your Block list, future calls from that number are sent directly to your voicemail, and messages are not received.

1. From a Home screen, tap the Phone icon.

2. Tap Recents.

3. Tap the caller you want to add to the Block list.

4. Tap Details > More options > Block number, and confirm when prompted.

You can also manage your block list by going to Phone > More options > Settings > Block numbers.

Connect to a Wi-Fi Network:

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi, and then tap the toggle to turn on Wi-Fi.

3. Your device will automatically scan for available networks.

4. Tap the network you want to connect to. If it’s a secure network, enter the password.

Manually Connect to a Wi-Fi Network:

1. On the Wi-Fi settings screen, tap Add network.

2. Enter the Network name.

3. Select a security option and enter the password if required.

4. Tap Connect.

Pairing allows you to establish trusted connections with other Bluetooth devices like headsets or car systems.

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Connections > Bluetooth, and then tap the toggle to turn on Bluetooth.

3. Make sure the target device is in discoverable mode.

4. Your phone will scan for nearby devices. Tap the name of the target device when it appears in the list.

5. Your device will automatically try to pair. If prompted, confirm the passcode on both devices or enter the passcode supplied with the target device.

You can activate the Mobile Hotspot feature to share your device’s internet connection with other devices.

Turn on Mobile Hotspot:

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Hotspot and tethering > Hotspot.

3. Tap the switch to turn Hotspot on.

Connect a Device to Your Hotspot:

1. On the other device, activate Wi-Fi.

2. Scan for Wi-Fi networks and select your SPRINT SAMSUNG GALAXY S8 ACTIVE’s Hotspot.

3. Enter your Hotspot’s password (displayed on your phone’s Hotspot screen) on the target device.

Note: Using your device as a Hotspot consumes battery power and uses mobile data service.

You can configure sound mode, volume, ringtones, and vibration patterns.

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Sounds and vibration.

From here you can adjust:

• Sound Mode: Choose between Sound, Vibrate, or Mute.

• Volume: Drag sliders to set the volume for Ringtone, Media, Notifications, and System.

• Vibration Intensity: Set vibration levels for calls, notifications, and feedback.

• Ringtone: Choose from preset ringtones or add your own.

• Notification Sounds: Choose sounds for new messages and event reminders.

• System Sounds: Enable or disable sounds for touch interactions, screen lock, and charging.

The Device Maintenance feature helps improve your device’s performance.

Quick Optimization:

This feature identifies apps using excessive battery, clears memory, deletes unnecessary files, and scans for malware.

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Device maintenance.

3. Tap Optimize now.

Performance Mode:

You can also choose a performance mode to best fit your usage.

1. In Device maintenance, tap Performance mode.

2. Choose from Optimized (recommended), Game, Entertainment, or High performance.

You can reset various settings or perform a full factory data reset.

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > General management > Reset.

Choose from the following options:

• Reset settings: Resets device settings to their factory defaults, except for security, language, and account settings. Personal data is not affected.

• Reset network settings: Resets Wi-Fi, Mobile data, and Bluetooth settings.

• Factory data reset: Erases ALL data from the device, including Google accounts, system and app data, and downloaded applications. This action is permanent. Before proceeding, ensure you have backed up any important information.

You can check for and install available software updates for your device.

You will have the following options:

• Download updates manually: Manually check for available software updates.

• Download updates automatically: Download software updates automatically when connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Your device is rated IP68. Despite this classification, your device is not impervious to water damage in any situation. Follow these tips carefully to prevent damage:

• Any device which uses accessible compartments or ports that can be opened should have these sealed or closed tightly to prevent liquid from entering the system.

• Whenever your device gets wet, dry it thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth.

• If your device has gotten wet, you should dry the inside of the charging port before inserting a power connector to charge your device. If the charging port is not fully dry, your device may operate abnormally (e.g., charge more slowly or overheat).

• Do not expose the device to salt water, ionized water, or to water over 5.0 feet deep for more than 30 minutes.
