To prepare the battery pack for your SONY A7SIII ILCE-7SM3, follow these steps:

Step 1. Insert the battery pack into the battery charger, and connect it to a wall outlet using the supplied power cord. The CHARGE lamp will light up while charging and turn off when charging is finished. Place the battery pack on the charger in the direction of the arrow and slide it as far as it will go.

Step 2. Insert the battery pack into the camera. Open the battery cover, and then insert the battery pack while pressing the lock lever.

This camera is also compatible with USB-PD (USB Power Delivery) for fast charging when a compatible device is connected. A USB-PD device with an output of 9 V/3 A or 9 V/2 A is recommended.

To insert a memory card into your SONY A7SIII ILCE-7SM3:

Step 1. Open the memory card cover.

Step 2. Insert the memory card into Slot 1, paying attention to the orientation of the memory card.

Step 3. Close the cover.

Both Slot 1 and Slot 2 of this camera support CFexpress Type A memory cards and SD memory cards. Slot 1 is used by default. When using a memory card with this camera for the first time, it is recommended to format the card using the camera to stabilize its performance.

To attach a lens to your SONY A7SIII ILCE-7SM3, follow these steps:

Step 1. Mount the lens by aligning the two white index marks (mounting indexes) on the lens and camera.

Step 2. While pushing the lens lightly toward the camera, turn the lens slowly in the direction of the arrow until it clicks into the locked position.

To perform the initial setup for your SONY A7SIII ILCE-7SM3, follow these procedures:

Step 1. Set the ON/OFF (Power) switch to “ON” to turn on the camera.

Step 2. Select the desired language and then press the center of the control wheel.

• [Shooting Screen] under [Touch Panel Settings]: Set [Shooting Screen] to [On]. You can then set a desired setting for [Swipe Right] or [Swipe Left].

To show or hide the touch function icons, swipe right or left on the shooting standby screen. The icons will appear on the left and right sides according to your settings. To hide them, swipe in the opposite direction.

On the menu screen or the screen displayed by pressing the Fn button, you can move the selection frame by turning the control wheel or by pressing the top/bottom/left/right side of the control wheel. Your selection is confirmed when you press the center of the control wheel.

• The DISP (Display Setting), Drive Mode, and ISO functions are assigned to the top/left/right side of the control wheel by default. You can assign other functions to the left/right/bottom side, the center, and to the rotation of the control wheel.

• During playback, you can display the next/previous image by pressing the right/left side of the control wheel or by turning it.

You can move the focus area by pushing the multi-selector up/down/left/right. You can also assign a function to be activated when you press the center of the multi-selector.

• Put your finger right on top of the multi-selector to manipulate it more precisely.

• You can move the focus area when [Focus Area] is set to parameters like [Zone], [Spot], [Expand Spot], or [Tracking].

• The [Focus Standard] function is assigned to the center of the multi-selector in the default settings.

The modes on the mode dial of your SONY A7SIII ILCE-7SM3 are divided into still image shooting modes, movie recording modes, and registration recall modes. To select a mode, turn the mode dial while pressing the mode dial lock release button in the center.

To navigate the menu screen on your SONY A7SIII ILCE-7SM3, follow these steps:

Step 1. Press the MENU button to display the menu screen.

Step 2. Move within the menu tree to find the desired menu item by pressing the top/bottom/left/right side of the control wheel. The menu is organized into tabs, groups, and items.

Step 3. Press the center of the control wheel to select the menu item. The setting or execution screen for that item will appear.

• Touch operations are possible on the function menu if enabled in [Touch Panel Settings].

• If [Swipe Up] is set to [Open the Fn Menu] under [Shooting Screen], you can display the function menu by swiping the shooting screen upward.

• To close the function menu, swipe downward from outside the menu area or touch the area outside the menu.

You can assign frequently used functions to the custom buttons (C1 to C4) to quickly call them up during shooting or playback.

To check or change the function assigned to a custom button, follow this procedure:

Navigate to: MENU → (Setup) → [Operation Customize] → [Custom Key/Dial Set.] (for stills or movies) or [Custom Key Setting] (for playback).

To change the function of a custom button, select the button in the menu and press the center of the control wheel. A list of assignable functions will appear. Select your desired function.

By pressing the DISP (Display Setting) button, you can change the content displayed on the screen during shooting and playback. The display switches each time the DISP button is pressed. The settings for the viewfinder display and the monitor display can be set separately.

During shooting (Monitor) display cycles:

Display All Info. → No Disp. Info. → Histogram → Level → For viewfinder → Display All Info.

During shooting (Viewfinder) display cycles:

Level → No Disp. Info. → Histogram → Level

During playback (Monitor/Viewfinder) display cycles:

Display Info. → Histogram → No Disp. Info. → Display Info.

The monitor can also be turned off with the DISP button if you add a check mark to [Monitor Off] in the menu settings.

To select the focus method to suit the movement of your subject, go to MENU → (Focus) → [AF/MF] → [Focus Mode] and select the desired setting.

• AF-S (Single-shot AF): The camera locks the focus once focusing is complete. Use this for motionless subjects.

• AF-A (Automatic AF): The camera switches between [Single-shot AF] and [Continuous AF] according to the subject’s movement. The focus is locked if the subject is still, and it continues to focus if the subject is in motion.

• AF-C (Continuous AF): The camera continues to focus while the shutter button is pressed and held halfway down. Use this for subjects in motion.

• DMF (Direct manual focus): You can make fine adjustments manually after auto focusing is complete. This is useful for macro shooting.

• MF (Manual Focus): Adjusts the focus manually. Use this if you cannot focus on the intended subject using auto focus.

To set the type of focusing frame when shooting with auto focus, go to MENU → (Focus) → [Focus Area] → [Focus Area] and select the desired setting.

• Wide: Focuses on a subject covering the whole range of the screen automatically.

• Zone: Select a zone on the monitor on which to focus, and the camera will automatically select a focus area within that zone.

• Center Fix: Focuses automatically on a subject in the center of the image.

• Spot (L/M/S): Allows you to move the focusing frame to a desired point and focus on a very small subject in a narrow area.

• Expand Spot: If the camera cannot focus on a single selected point, it uses focus points around the [Spot] as a secondary priority area.

• Tracking: Available only when Focus Mode is set to [Continuous AF]. When the shutter button is pressed and held halfway down, the camera tracks the subject within the selected autofocus area.

Your SONY A7SIII ILCE-7SM3 can automatically detect faces and eyes and focus on them using Eye AF. There are two methods for performing Eye AF for human subjects:

To focus on the eyes of an animal, set [Face/Eye Subject] to [Animal] before shooting. This function detects eyes only when shooting still images; animal faces are not detected.

To shoot images continuously while you press and hold down the shutter button, follow these steps:

Step 1. Select the Drive Mode icon on the control wheel and choose [Cont. Shooting]. You can also set this via MENU → (Shooting) → [Drive Mode].

Step 2. Select the desired continuous shooting speed using the right/left side of the control wheel:

• Hi+ (Continuous Shooting: Hi+): Images are shot continuously at the maximum speed.

• Hi / Mid / Lo: Subjects are easier to track because the subject is displayed in real-time on the monitor or viewfinder during shooting at these slower speeds.

For continuous adjustment of focus and exposure during continuous shooting, set [Focus Mode] to [Continuous AF] and [AEL w/ Shutter] to [Off] or [Auto].

Your SONY A7SIII ILCE-7SM3 offers several touch functions for focusing:

• Touch Focus: You can specify where to focus by touching the monitor.

• Touch Tracking: The camera maintains focus on the subject that was touched on the monitor, continuing to track it even if it moves.

• Touch Shutter: The camera automatically focuses on the point you touch and shoots a still image.

Additionally, the camera supports touch pad operations, where you can use the monitor as a touch pad while looking through the viewfinder. You can choose which type of operation to enable by navigating to MENU → (Setup) → [Touch Operation] → [Touch Panel/Pad].

If you experience trouble with your SONY A7SIII ILCE-7SM3, try the following solutions in order:

The Front dial on your SONY A7SIII ILCE-7SM3 allows you to quickly adjust the settings for each shooting mode.

To remove the eyepiece cup on your SONY A7SIII ILCE-7SM3, push the grips at the bottom of the eyepiece cup to the left and right, and then lift up the cup.

Adjust the diopter-adjustment dial according to your eyesight until the display appears clearly in the viewfinder. If it is hard to operate the diopter-adjustment dial, remove the eyepiece cup before operating the dial.

Here are some important notes on handling your SONY A7SIII ILCE-7SM3:

• The camera is dust and splash resistant but not guaranteed to be completely protected. Avoid ingress of dust or water droplets.

• Do not leave the lens or viewfinder exposed to strong light like sunlight. The lens can condense light and cause smoke, fire, or a malfunction. Always attach the lens cap when storing the camera.

• Do not directly expose the lens or viewfinder to laser beams, as this can damage the image sensor.

• Do not look at sunlight or a strong light source through a detached lens, as it may cause unrecoverable eye damage.

Pay special attention in the following situations and use a tripod if necessary:

• When using the camera in a high-temperature environment.

• When someone with poor circulation or impaired skin sensation uses the camera.

• When using the camera with the [Auto Power OFF Temp.] set to [High].

When recording is finished, the memory card may become hot. This is not a malfunction. If the overheating warning icon is displayed on the monitor, do not remove the memory card from the camera right away. Instead, wait for a while after turning off the camera, and then remove the memory card. Touching the memory card while it is hot may cause you to drop it, and the card may be damaged. Be careful when removing the memory card.

To protect your private information when discarding or transferring the camera to others, be sure to perform the following operation: [Setting Reset] → [Initialize].

When transferring a memory card, executing [Format] or [Delete] may not completely delete the data. It is recommended that you delete the data completely using data deletion software. When discarding a memory card, it is recommended that you physically destroy it.
