What important safety precautions should I follow when using the vacuum?
**General Use & Handling:**
* Inspect the power cord and plug for damage before each use. DO NOT use if damaged.
* Turn off all controls before plugging or unplugging.
* Store the vacuum with the power cord secured around the cord hooks.
* Use only on dry, indoor surfaces. DO NOT use outdoors or on wet surfaces.
* Unplug when not in use and before servicing.
* If the vacuum isn’t working correctly, has been damaged, or submerged in water, return it to SharkNinja for examination/repair.
* DO NOT use the vacuum if the hose (which contains electrical wires) is damaged, cut, or punctured.
* DO NOT pull, carry, or handle the vacuum by the cord. Grasp the plug, not the cord, when unplugging.
* DO NOT handle the plug or vacuum with wet hands.
* DO NOT run the vacuum over the power cord, close a door on it, or pull it around sharp corners.
* Using an extension cord is NOT recommended.
* DO NOT leave the vacuum unattended when plugged in.
* Keep the cord away from heated surfaces.
* Always turn off the vacuum before connecting or disconnecting the motorized nozzle.
* Use only as described in the manual. Keep your work area well-lit.
* Keep the vacuum moving over carpet surfaces to avoid damaging fibers.
* DO NOT place the vacuum on unstable surfaces like chairs or tables.
* DO NOT put objects into openings or use with blocked openings. Keep free of dust, lint, hair, etc.
* DO NOT allow children to operate or play with the vacuum. Close supervision is needed near children.
* DO NOT use without the dust cup and filters in place.
* Keep the hose end and accessory openings away from your face and body.
* Keep cleaning tools and hose openings away from hair, face, fingers, feet, or loose clothing.
* Only use manufacturer-recommended attachments.
**Vacuuming Restrictions:**
* DO NOT vacuum liquids. DO NOT immerse the vacuum in water or other liquids.
* DO NOT vacuum up large objects.
* DO NOT vacuum hard or sharp objects (glass, nails, screws, coins).
* DO NOT vacuum drywall dust, fireplace ash, or embers.
* DO NOT vacuum smoking or burning items (hot coals, cigarettes, matches).
* DO NOT vacuum flammable or combustible materials (lighter fluid, gasoline, kerosene) or use in areas where they may be present.
* DO NOT vacuum toxic solutions (chlorine bleach, ammonia, drain cleaner).
* DO NOT use in enclosed spaces with vapors from paint, thinner, moth-proofing substances, flammable dust, or other explosive/toxic materials.
* Use extra care when cleaning on stairs.
**Filters & Accessories:**
* Ensure all filters are completely dry after cleaning before reinstalling.
* Ensure the dust cup and all filters are in place after maintenance.
* Ensure accessories are free of blockages.
* Only use Shark®-brand filters and accessories.
* If airflow is restricted (blocked air paths or nozzle), turn off and unplug the vacuum. Remove obstructions before restarting.
**Polarized Plug:**
* This vacuum has a polarized plug (one blade wider than the other). It fits into a polarized outlet only one way. If it doesn’t fit, reverse the plug. If it still doesn’t fit, contact a qualified electrician. DO NOT force the plug or modify it.
What are the main components of the Shark Navigator® Lift-Away® Deluxe?
The main components are:

4. Push the handle (A) onto the top of the extension wand until it clicks into place.
5. Insert the end of the stretch hose from the handle into the connector on the back of the Lift-Away® pod.
6. Store the dusting brush (F) and crevice tool (G) on the mounts on the accessory holder (B).
How do I use the vacuum in Upright Mode?
1. Release the power cord by rotating the upper cord hook on the back of the wand.
2. Plug the power cord into an outlet.
3. Press the ON/OFF switch located on top of the Lift-Away® pod. Select the appropriate setting:
* Position **I (Suction Only)**: For bare floors and accessories. The brushroll will not spin.
* Position **II (Brushroll ON)**: For carpets and area rugs. The brushroll will spin.
4. Place your foot gently on the floor nozzle and tilt the handle back towards you to start cleaning.
5. Note: The brushroll will only spin when the nozzle is flat against the floor and the handle is tilted back.
6. When finished, press the ON/OFF switch to the **O (OFF)** position and unplug the vacuum.
What does the Brushroll Indicator Light mean?
* **Solid Green:** The brushroll is on and working as it should (in mode II, handle tilted back).
* **Solid Red:** There is a jam in the brushroll area. Turn the vacuum off, unplug it, and remove the blockage.
* **Flashing Red:** The motorized floor nozzle is overheating. Turn the vacuum off, unplug it, and wait for it to cool down (at least 45 minutes). Check for blockages. Consider opening the Suction Control collar when vacuuming the surface next time.
* **No Light:** The brushroll is off. This is normal in Suction Only (I) mode or when the vacuum is locked upright.
How do I use the vacuum in Lift-Away® Mode?
1. Press the red release button labeled “Lift-Away” on the side of the pod. Gently hold the floor nozzle down with your foot and lift the pod off the nozzle. You can carry the pod using the handle on top of the dust cup.
2. To clean with the handle: Press the Handle Release button near the top of the wand and pull the handle up. Attach the desired accessory.
3. To clean with the wand: Press the Wand Release button lower down on the wand and pull the extension wand up. Attach the desired accessory to the end of the wand.
4. Press the On/Off switch to the “I” (Suction Only) position for above-floor cleaning. Hold the handle in one hand while carrying the pod with the other.
How do I clean above floors?
You can clean above floors using either the Upright Vac mode or the portable Lift-Away® mode.
1. Decide if you need just the handle or the handle with the extension wand.
* Press the Handle Release button and pull the handle up.
* OR, press the Wand Release button and pull the extension wand (with handle attached) up.
2. Attach the desired cleaning accessory (like the crevice tool or dusting brush) onto the end of the handle or wand.
3. Press the On/Off switch to the “I” (Suction Only) position for above-floor cleaning.
**NOTE:** Ensure the vacuum is in the upright position when cleaning above floors in Upright mode. **DO NOT** use position “II” (Brushroll ON) for above-floor cleaning in Upright mode, as the spinning brushroll could damage your floor if left running in one spot.
When should I adjust the Suction Release Collar?
Due to the vacuum’s strong suction, you may need to adjust the suction release collar located on the handle in certain situations:
* **Reduce Suction:** Rotate the collar counterclockwise to open the valve if the vacuum is difficult to push or pull, is lifting area rugs, or when cleaning delicate surfaces like drapes.
* **Increase Suction:** Rotate the collar clockwise to close the valve when you need maximum suction for floors or when using the Air-Driven Pet Brush.
How should I store the vacuum cleaner?
1. Convert the vacuum back to the upright vac mode (reattach pod to nozzle).
2. Rotate the upper cord hook to its upright position.
3. Coil the power cord loosely around the upper and lower cord hooks.
4. Clip the plug onto the cord to secure it.
5. Store the dusting brush and crevice tool on their mounts on the accessory holder.
6. Store the vacuum safely in a cool, dry area where it won’t be a hazard or get damaged.
What is the recommended cleaning schedule for the filters and dust cup?
* **Dust Cup:** Empty after each time you vacuum, or when it appears full.
* **Pre-Motor Filter Kit (XFF350 – Foam & Felt):** Clean every 3 months.
* **Post-Motor Filter (XHF350 – HEPA):** Clean every 2 years.
How do I empty the dust cup?
1. Remove the dust cup from the motor base by lifting the latches on the sides up and outwards.
2. Hold the dust cup over a trash bin and press the bottom-door release button. Tap gently to empty the contents. Press the door shut until it clicks.
3. If needed (e.g., for stuck debris), turn the dust cup upside down over the trash bin and press the top-door release button. Tap gently. Use a dry cloth or paper towel to remove debris stuck to the screen filter inside the dust cup if necessary. Press the top door shut until it clicks.
4. Replace the dust cup on top of the motor base. Hook the two latches onto the tabs on the sides of the dust cup and push down to lock securely.
How do I clean the Pre-Motor Filters (Foam and Felt)?
**IMPORTANT:** DO NOT use soap. Rinse with water only. Allow filters to air-dry COMPLETELY (at least 24 hours) before reinstalling. DO NOT use a hair dryer or other heating methods.
1. Remove the dust cup.
2. Pull the foam filter and the felt filter out from the top of the motor base.
3. Rinse both filters thoroughly under lukewarm running water until the water runs clear.
4. Squeeze out excess water.
5. Let the filters air-dry completely for at least 24 hours before replacing.
6. Reinstall the filters: Place the felt filter in first, then the foam filter on top.
7. Replace the dust cup.
**Note:** The filter material may discolor over time. This is normal and does not affect performance.
How do I clean the Post-Motor HEPA Filter?
**IMPORTANT:** DO NOT use soap. Rinse with water only. Allow filter to air-dry COMPLETELY (at least 24 hours) before reinstalling. DO NOT use a hair dryer or other heating methods.
1. Remove the filter cover from the front of the vacuum by pulling up on the tab and pulling the cover away.
2. Take out the HEPA filter by pulling it straight out.
3. Turn the filter so the dirty side is on the bottom and tap it vigorously against a garbage can to remove loose dust.
4. Hold the filter under a tap, dirty side facing down. Rinse with lukewarm water until the water runs clear.
5. Allow the filter to air-dry completely for 24 hours.
6. Once dry, reinstall the HEPA filter back into the vacuum.
7. Replace the cover by inserting the two tabs into the holes at the top, then swinging the cover down until it clicks into place.
How do I clean the Air-Driven Pet Brush (if included)?
1. Slide the locking latch forward.
2. Gently tilt the brush housing upward to remove it.
3. Carefully remove any blockages or debris.
4. Use scissors to cut away any hair or string wrapped around the rotating bristle brush.
5. To reassemble, insert the tabs on the front edge of the bottom cover into the matching holes in the top half. Tilt the housing back down until it clicks securely into place.
How do I clean the Motorized Floor Nozzle and check the brushroll?
The nozzle has a protective feature that shuts off the brushroll motor if it gets jammed or overheats (Indicator light turns red).
1. Turn off and unplug the vacuum.
2. Detach the motorized floor nozzle from the wand or the portable Lift-Away® pod.
3. Turn the nozzle over and inspect the opening underneath and the brushroll.
4. Remove any buildup of debris.
5. Use scissors to carefully cut away anything (hair, string, fibers) wound around the brushroll. Avoid damaging the bristles.
6. Ensure the airway is clear.
7. Reattach the nozzle. Plug in the vacuum and turn it on. The indicator light should reset if the blockage is cleared and the motor has cooled (if it had overheated).
How do I check for blockages in the vacuum?
Blockages can cause overheating and loss of suction. Check these areas if you suspect a blockage or after heavy use:
1. **Stretch Hose (Handle to Pod):** Detach the stretch hose from the back of the Lift-Away® pod by squeezing the tabs together and pulling up. Check the hose and the pod opening for blockages. Reattach securely.
2. **Dust Cup Airway & Wand:** Remove the dust cup. Check the intake opening behind the dust cup on the pod. Separate the wand from the pod and check inside the wand for blockages.
3. **Floor Nozzle Hose:** Detach the hose connection on the motorized floor nozzle neck. Squeeze the tabs together and pull out the connector at the top; pull out the connector at the bottom. Check this short hose section and both connection points (on the nozzle and the wand tube) for blockages. Reconnect securely.
**TIP:** Use a flashlight to help inspect the openings.
Troubleshooting: Why is the vacuum not picking up debris, or has no/light suction?
* **Check Filters:** See if filters need cleaning. Follow instructions for rinsing and completely air-drying before reinserting.
* **Empty Dust Cup:** The dust cup may be full. Empty it.
* **Check for Blockages:** Inspect the hose, hose connections, wand, nozzle, and accessories for blockages. Clear any obstructions found.
* **Check Brushroll:** Remove any string, carpet fibers, or hair wrapped around the brushroll.
* **Check Suction Collar:** Rotate the suction release collar on the handle clockwise to ensure it’s closed for maximum suction.
Troubleshooting: Why does the vacuum lift area rugs?
* **Turn off Brushroll:** Press the power switch to position “I” (Suction Only / bare floors) to disengage the brushroll.
* **Reduce Suction:** The suction is powerful. Rotate the suction release collar on the handle counterclockwise to decrease suction power when vacuuming delicate rugs or rugs with sewn edges.
Troubleshooting: Why isn’t the brushroll spinning?
* **Check Indicator Light:** If the Brushroll Indicator Light on the floor nozzle is red, the brushroll has stopped due to a jam. Immediately turn off and unplug the vacuum. Disconnect the nozzle, remove the blockage (see cleaning instructions), reconnect the nozzle, plug in, and turn the vacuum back on.
* **Recline Handle:** Ensure the handle is reclined. The brushroll only engages when the handle is tilted back for vacuuming floors.
* **Check Power Switch:** Make sure the On/Off switch is set to position “II” (Brushroll ON). It will not spin in position “I” (Suction Only).
Troubleshooting: Why did the vacuum turn off on its own, or why is the indicator light flashing red?
* **Motor Thermostat:** The vacuum has a motor-protective thermostat that shuts off the suction motor if it overheats. This can be caused by blockages or dirty filters. The floor nozzle light may flash red if the nozzle overheats.
* 1. Turn the vacuum off and unplug it.
* 2. Empty the dust cup and clean the filters (Pre-Motor and HEPA – see maintenance section). Ensure they are completely dry before reinstalling.
* 3. Check the hose, accessories, and inlet openings for blockages.
* 4. Allow the unit to cool for a minimum of 45 minutes.
* 5. Plug the vacuum in and turn it on.
* **Loose Hose Connection:** If the main hose connection to the pod is not fully secured, it can cause a poor electrical connection and the vacuum may turn off intermittently.
* 1. Turn the vacuum off and unplug it.
* 2. Empty the dust cup and clean filters.
* 3. Check for blockages in the hose, accessories, and inlet openings.
* 4. Remove the power cord from the upper cord hook so the hose latch mechanism is visible and accessible.
* 5. Ensure the hose, wand, and handle are all securely clicked into place at all connection points:
* a. Where the main stretch hose meets the back of the pod (push firmly; pull gently on the hose to ensure the latch is fully engaged).
* b. Where the wand plugs into the floor nozzle.
* c. Where the handle plugs into the wand.
* 6. Plug the vacuum in and turn it on.
* **Contact Customer Service:** If the vacuum still does not start after following these steps, contact Customer Service at 1-800-798-7398.
