Fuel and its vapors are extremely flammable and explosive, which can cause severe burns or death. Follow these precautions:

WHEN ADDING FUEL

• Turn pressure washer OFF and let it cool for at least 2 minutes before removing the gas cap.

• Fill the fuel tank outdoors.

• DO NOT overfill the tank. Allow space for fuel expansion.

• Keep fuel away from sparks, open flames, pilot lights, heat, and other ignition sources.

• DO NOT light a cigarette or smoke.

WHEN OPERATING EQUIPMENT

• DO NOT tip the engine or equipment at an angle which causes fuel to spill.

• DO NOT spray flammable liquids.

WHEN TRANSPORTING OR REPAIRING EQUIPMENT

• Transport/repair with the fuel tank EMPTY or with the fuel shutoff valve OFF.

WHEN STORING FUEL OR EQUIPMENT WITH FUEL IN TANK

• Store away from furnaces, stoves, water heaters, clothes dryers, or other appliances that have a pilot light or other ignition source because they can ignite fuel vapors.

The running engine gives off carbon monoxide, which is an odorless, colorless, poison gas. Breathing carbon monoxide will cause nausea, fainting, or death. Some chemicals or detergents may also be harmful if inhaled or ingested.

• Operate the pressure washer ONLY outdoors.

• Use a respirator or mask whenever there is a chance that vapors may be inhaled.

• Read all instructions packed with the mask to ensure it provides the necessary protection against inhaling harmful vapors.

The high-pressure stream of water can pierce skin and underlying tissues, leading to serious injury and possible amputation. Use of the pressure washer can also create puddles and slippery surfaces, and the high-pressure spray could cause you to fall if you are too close to the cleaning surface.

• NEVER aim the spray gun at people, animals, or plants.

• DO NOT allow CHILDREN to operate the pressure washer.

• NEVER repair the high-pressure hose. Replace it.

• Keep the high-pressure hose connected to the pump and spray gun while the system is pressurized.

• Keep the spray nozzle between 8 to 24 inches away from the cleaning surface.

• Operate this unit on a stable surface.

• The cleaning area should have adequate slopes and drainage to reduce the possibility of falls due to slippery surfaces.

• Be extremely careful if you must use the pressure washer from a ladder, scaffolding, or any other relatively unstable location.

• Firmly grasp the spray gun with both hands when using high-pressure spray to avoid injury if the gun kicks back.

• Always wear eye protection when using the equipment or when in the vicinity of equipment in use, as high-pressure spray can cause paint chips or other particles to become airborne.

Running engines produce heat and hot exhaust gases. The temperature of the muffler and nearby areas can reach or exceed 150°F (65°C), which can cause fire or severe burns.

• DO NOT touch hot surfaces.

• Stay clear of exhaust gases.

• NEVER move equipment while it is operating.

• Allow equipment to cool before touching.

• Accessory Holder: Provides convenient storage for the spray gun, turbo wand, and nozzle extension.

• Adjustable Nozzle: Adjust for high or low pressure; narrow or fan spray.

• Air Cleaner: A dry-type filter element that limits the amount of dirt and dust that gets into the engine.

• Automatic Cool Down System: Cycles water through the pump when it reaches 125°-155°F (51°-68°C). Warm water will discharge from the pump onto the ground. This system prevents internal pump damage.

• Detergent Pick-Up Tube and Filter: Used to siphon detergent from a chemical bottle to the low-pressure water stream.

• Extension with Turbo Nozzle: The turbo nozzle rotates the high-pressure stream in a rapid circular pattern for aggressive cleaning.

• Fuel Cap: Fill the fuel tank with regular unleaded fuel here.

1. Open the carton and slice two corners opposite the guide handle from top to bottom so the panel can be folded down flat.

2. Remove fillers, accessories, and the parts bag shipped with your pressure washer.

3. Remove the pressure washer out the open end of the carton.

4. Check the carton for additional loose parts.

Check all contents. Your carton should contain the following:

• The main unit

• High pressure hose

• Spray gun

• Nozzle extension with adjustable nozzle

• Turbo wand

• Accessory holder

• Engine oil

• Parts bag (which includes Owner’s manual and Registration card)

Your Craftsman pressure washer was mostly assembled at the factory. However, you will need to perform these tasks before you can operate your pressure washer:

1. Add oil to the engine crankcase.

2. Add fuel to the fuel tank.

3. Connect the high-pressure hose to the spray gun and pump.

4. Connect the water supply to the pump.

1. Place the accessory holder onto the top of the handle.

2. Place the nozzle extension, turbo wand, and spray gun into the holder.

IMPORTANT: Any attempt to crank or start the engine before it has been properly serviced with the recommended oil may result in an engine failure.

NOTE: Use only high-quality detergent oil rated with API service classification SF, SG, SH, SJ or higher. DO NOT use special additives.

1. Choose a viscosity according to the following table based on the anticipated starting temperature range before the next oil change:

* The use of multi-viscosity oils (5W-30, 10W-30, etc.) in temperatures above 40°F (4°C) will result in higher than normal oil consumption. Check oil more frequently.

** If using SAE 30 oil in temperatures below 40°F (4°C), it will result in hard starting and possible engine bore damage due to inadequate lubrication.

2. Place the pressure washer on a level surface.

3. Clean the area around the oil fill.

4. Remove the oil fill cap and dipstick.

5. Wipe the dipstick clean, insert it into the oil fill hole and tighten securely, then remove the dipstick. Add recommended oil up to the “Full” mark on the dipstick.

6. Pour slowly. Wipe the dipstick clean each time the oil level is checked. DO NOT overfill.

7. Install the oil fill plug and dipstick, and tighten securely.

NOTE: Check oil often during engine break-in.

1. Use clean regular unleaded automotive fuel and store it in approved, clean, covered containers. Use clean fill funnels. NEVER use “stale” fuel left over from the last season or fuel stored for long periods.

2. Clean the area around the fuel fill cap, then remove the cap.

3. Slowly add fuel to the fuel tank. Use a funnel to prevent spillage. Fill the tank to about 1.5″ below the top of the filler neck to allow for air space and fuel expansion.

4. Install the fuel cap and wipe up any spilled fuel.

IMPORTANT: To avoid engine problems, the fuel system should be emptied before storage of 30 days or longer. NEVER use engine or carburetor cleaner products in the fuel tank, as permanent damage may occur.

IMPORTANT: To avoid pump damage, you must assemble the nozzle extension to the spray gun and attach all hoses before you start the engine.

1. Uncoil the high-pressure hose and attach one end to the base of the spray gun. Tighten by hand.

2. Attach the other end of the high-pressure hose to the high-pressure outlet on the pump. Tighten by hand.

3. Before connecting the garden hose to the water inlet, inspect the inlet screen. Clean the screen if it contains debris or have it replaced if damaged. DO NOT run the pressure washer if the inlet screen is damaged. NEVER siphon inlet water.

4. Run water through the garden hose for 30 seconds to flush out any debris.

5. Connect the garden hose (not to exceed 50 feet in length) to the water inlet. Tighten by hand. There MUST be at least ten feet of unrestricted garden hose between the pressure washer inlet and any flow shut-off device.

6. Turn ON the water and squeeze the trigger on the gun to purge the pump system of air and impurities.

Review the unit to ensure you have performed all of the following:

1. Check that oil has been added to the proper level in the engine crankcase.

2. Add proper fuel to the fuel tank.

3. Check for properly tightened hose connections (high pressure and water supply) and ensure there are no kinks, cuts, or damage to the high-pressure hose.

4. Provide a proper water supply (not to exceed 100°F).

5. Be sure to read the “Safety Rules” and “Operation” sections before using the pressure washer.

6. If starting the unit after storage, refer to the “Storage” section.

This starting information applies whenever you start the engine for the first time or after it has sat idle for at least a day.

1. Place the pressure washer near an outside water source capable of supplying water at a flow rate greater than 3.0 gallons per minute and no less than 20 PSI at the pressure washer end of the garden hose.

2. Check that the high-pressure hose is tightly connected to the spray gun and pump.

3. Make sure the unit is in a level position.

4. Connect the garden hose to the water inlet on the pump. Turn ON the water. DO NOT run the pump without the water supply connected and turned on.

5. Squeeze the trigger on the gun to purge the pump system of air and impurities.

6. Attach the nozzle extension to the spray gun. Tighten by hand.

7. Position the nozzle in low-pressure mode (slide nozzle forward) and squeeze the trigger on the spray gun to relieve pressure. Continue to hold the trigger until there is a steady stream of water and no air remains in the system. Release the trigger.

8. Engage the safety latch on the spray gun trigger.

9. Move the throttle lever to the “Fast” position (shown as a rabbit).

To start the engine for the very first time:

10. Make sure the throttle lever is in the “Fast” position.

11. Push the primer bulb firmly 5 times, waiting 2 seconds between each push.

To start the engine thereafter:

10. Make sure the throttle lever is in the “Fast” position.

11. Press the primer bulb firmly 3 times, waiting 2 seconds between each push. For a warm engine, DO NOT press the primer bulb.

12. Grasp the starter grip handle and pull slowly until you feel some resistance. Then pull rapidly to start the engine. Squeeze the trigger on the spray gun each time the recoil starter is pulled and the engine fails to start to avoid injury from kickback.

13. Return the starter grip handle slowly. DO NOT let the rope “snap back” against the starter.

NOTE: Always keep the throttle lever in the “Fast” position when operating the pressure washer.

1. Move the throttle lever to the “Stop” position.

2. Squeeze the trigger on the spray gun to relieve pressure in the hose.

NOTE: A small amount of water will squirt out when you release the pressure.

The nozzle handle on the end of your spray gun adjusts the spray pressure and pattern. NEVER adjust the spray pattern when spraying, and NEVER put hands in front of the nozzle to adjust.

1. Adjust Pressure: Sliding the nozzle forward and back adjusts the spray pressure. Slide the nozzle backward for high-pressure mode. Slide the nozzle forward for low-pressure mode and detergent application.

2. Adjust Pattern: Rotating the nozzle adjusts the spray pattern from a narrow pattern to a fan pattern. Twist the nozzle counter-clockwise for a fan pattern. Twist the nozzle clockwise for a narrow spray pattern.

3. Effective Cleaning: For most effective cleaning, keep the spray nozzle between 8 to 24 inches away from the cleaning surface.

4. Avoid Damage: If you get the spray nozzle too close, especially using high-pressure mode, you may damage the surface being cleaned. DO NOT get closer than 6 inches when cleaning tires.

The turbo nozzle rotates the high-pressure stream in a rapid circular pattern. The spray is most effective when the tip of the nozzle extension is held between 8 to 24 inches from the surface.

Always start with the turbo nozzle at a distance, gradually getting closer to the surface until you achieve the desired cleaning force. The turbo nozzle produces an extremely high-pressure spray, so always test in a hidden area to ensure the surface will not be damaged.

NOTE: Detergent cannot be applied with the turbo nozzle.

IMPORTANT: Use chemicals designed specifically for pressure washers. Household detergents could damage the pump. You must attach all hoses before you start the engine.

1. Review the use of the adjustable nozzle.

2. Prepare the detergent solution as required by the job.

3. Place the filter end of the detergent siphoning tube into the detergent container. Route the tube to keep it from inadvertently contacting the hot muffler.

4. Slide the adjustable nozzle forward to low-pressure mode. Detergent cannot be applied with the nozzle in the high-pressure position.

5. Make sure the garden hose is connected to the water inlet and the high-pressure hose is connected to the spray gun and pump. Start the engine.

6. Apply detergent to a dry surface, starting from the bottom and working up.

7. Allow the detergent to “soak in” for 3-5 minutes before rinsing. Reapply as needed to prevent the surface from drying.

8. For washing, start at the lower portion of the area to be washed and work upward, using long, even, overlapping strokes.

IMPORTANT: You must flush the chemical injection system after each use by placing the filter into a clean bucket of water and running the pressure washer in low pressure for 1-2 minutes.

1. Slide the nozzle backward to high pressure, press the trigger, and wait for the detergent to clear. You can also stop detergent flow by removing the detergent siphoning tube from the container.

2. Keep the spray gun a safe distance (8 to 24 inches) from the area you plan to spray.

3. Apply a high-pressure spray to a small area, then check the surface for damage. If no damage is found, it is okay to continue cleaning.

4. Start at the top of the area to be rinsed, working down with the same overlapping strokes as you used for washing.

If you run the engine on your pressure washer for 3-5 minutes without pressing the trigger on the spray gun, circulating water in the pump can reach temperatures above 125°F (51°C). The Automatic Cool Down System engages to cool the pump by discharging the warm water onto the ground.

Follow the hourly or calendar intervals, whichever occurs first. More frequent service is required when operating in adverse conditions.

1. Check engine oil level.

2. Check water inlet screen for damage.

3. Check in-line filter for debris.

4. Check high pressure hose for leaks.

5. Check chemical filters for damage.

6. Check gun and nozzle extension assembly for leaks.

7. Purge pump of air and contaminants.

If the in-line filter becomes clogged, service it as follows:

1. Detach the nozzle extension from the gun and remove the o-ring and screen from the nozzle extension. Flush the screen, gun, and nozzle extension with clean water to clear debris.

2. Place the in-line filter screen into the threaded end of the nozzle extension. Direction does not matter. Push the screen in with the eraser end of a pencil until it rests flat at the bottom of the opening. Take care not to bend the screen.

3. Place the o-ring into the recess. Push the o-ring snugly against the in-line filter screen.

4. Assemble the nozzle extension to the spray gun.

A pulsing sensation while squeezing the trigger may be caused by a clogged or restricted nozzle. To correct the problem, immediately clean the nozzle:

1. Shut off the engine and turn off the water supply.

2. Remove the nozzle from the end of the nozzle extension. Separate the nozzle extension from the spray gun. Twist the nozzle clockwise to the stream position. Using a 2mm (5/64) allen wrench, remove the orifice from the end of the nozzle extension.

3. Remove the in-line filter from the other end of the nozzle extension.

4. Use a small paper clip to free any foreign material clogging or restricting the orifice. Insert the wire into the orifice and turn it back and forth to clear the obstruction.

5. Using a garden hose, remove additional debris by back-flushing water through the nozzle extension for 30 to 60 seconds. Turn the adjustable nozzle to stream spray and move the nozzle from low to high while flushing.

6. Reinstall the orifice and in-line filter into the nozzle extension. DO NOT overtighten the orifice with the allen wrench.

7. Reconnect the nozzle extension to the spray gun.

8. Reconnect the water supply, turn on the water, and start the engine.

9. Test the pressure washer by operating the nozzle in high and low positions.

Change oil every 50 hours or once yearly, whichever occurs first. You must purchase a premeasured bottle of pump oil, item number 190586GS.

1. Drain the engine oil and fuel from the pressure washer.

2. Use an 8mm allen wrench to remove the black pump oil cap located between the high-pressure outlet and the garden hose inlet.

3. Tilt the pressure washer to drain oil into an approved container until it drips slowly from the pump.

4. Tilt the pressure washer in the opposite direction and empty the premeasured pump oil bottle into the same opening (a small funnel may be helpful).

5. Install the black pump oil cap and tighten firmly.

6. Set the pressure washer in an upright position. Add fuel and engine oil.

Change the engine oil after the first 5 hours and every 50 hours thereafter. Change oil more often if using the pressure washer under extremely dirty, dusty, or hot conditions.

Change the oil while the engine is still warm from running, as follows:

1. Drain the fuel tank by running the pressure washer until the fuel tank is empty.

2. Disconnect the spark plug wire and keep it away from the spark plug.

3. Clean the area around the oil fill, and remove the oil fill cap/dipstick. Wipe the dipstick clean.

4. Tip your pressure washer to drain oil from the oil fill into a suitable container, making sure you tip the unit away from the spark plug and air cleaner. When the crankcase is empty, return the pressure washer to an upright position.

5. Wipe the dipstick clean, insert it into the oil fill hole and tighten securely, then remove the dipstick. Add recommended oil up to the “Full” mark on the dipstick. Pour slowly. Wipe the dipstick clean each time the oil level is checked. DO NOT overfill.

6. Install the oil fill plug and dipstick, and tighten securely.

7. Wipe up any remaining oil.

8. Reconnect the spark plug wire to the spark plug.

Service the air cleaner once every 25 hours of operation or once each year, whichever comes first. Service more often if operating under dirty or dusty conditions.

1. Remove the screw.

2. Carefully remove the air cleaner assembly to prevent debris from falling into the carburetor.

3. Take the air cleaner assembly apart and clean all parts. Wash the foam air cleaner in liquid detergent and water. Squeeze it dry in a clean cloth.

4. SATURATE the foam air cleaner in engine oil and squeeze it in a clean cloth to remove excess oil.

5. Reinstall the clean or new foam air cleaner in the body.

6. Install the air cleaner securely on the carburetor with the screw.

Service the spark plug every 100 hours of operation or yearly, whichever occurs first. First, disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug and place it where it cannot contact the spark plug.

1. Clean the area around the spark plug.

2. Remove and inspect the spark plug.

3. Replace the spark plug with the recommended plug if the electrodes are worn or if the insulator is cracked or chipped.

4. Check the electrode gap with a wire feeler gauge and set the gap at 0.030 inches (0.76mm), if necessary.

5. Install the spark plug and tighten securely.

Water should not remain in the unit for long periods as sediments or minerals can deposit on pump parts and “freeze” pump action. Follow these procedures after every use:

1. Flush the detergent siphoning tube by placing the filter into a pail of clean water while running the pressure washer in low-pressure mode (adjustable nozzle in the forward position). Flush for one to two minutes.

2. Shut off the engine and let it cool, then remove all hoses.

3. Disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug.

4. Empty the pump of all liquids by pulling the recoil handle about 6 times. This should remove most of the liquid in the pump.

5. If storing for more than 30 days, see “Long Term Storage” instructions.

You must protect your unit from freezing temperatures. Failure to do so will permanently damage your pump and render your unit inoperable. Freeze damage is not covered under warranty.

1. Flush the detergent siphoning tube by placing the filter into a pail of clean water while running the pressure washer in low-pressure mode (adjustable nozzle in the forward position). Flush for one to two minutes.

2. Empty the pump of all pumped liquids by pulling the recoil handle about 6 times. This should remove most of the liquid in the pump.

3. Connect a 3-foot section of garden hose to the water inlet adapter. Pour RV-antifreeze (antifreeze without alcohol) into the hose. Pull the recoil handle twice. Disconnect the 3-foot hose.

If you do not plan to use the pressure washer for more than 30 days, you must prepare the engine for long-term storage.

Protect Fuel System

• Drain the fuel tank by running the engine until the fuel tank is empty and the engine stops due to lack of fuel. This prevents gum deposits from forming. Drain fuel into an approved container outdoors, away from open flame, when the engine is cool. DO NOT smoke.

Change Oil

• While the engine is still warm, drain the oil from the crankcase. Refill with the recommended grade.

Oil Cylinder Bore

• Remove the spark plug. Squirt about 1 ounce of clean engine oil into the cylinder. Cover the spark plug hole with a rag. Pull the recoil handle slowly to distribute the oil. Avoid spray from the spark plug hole.

• Install the spark plug. DO NOT connect the spark plug wire.

Other Storage Tips

• DO NOT store fuel from one season to another.

• If possible, store your unit indoors and cover it to give protection from dust and dirt. BE SURE TO EMPTY THE FUEL TANK.

• NEVER cover your pressure washer while the engine and exhaust area are warm.

If detergent fails to mix with the spray, check these potential causes and corrections:

If the engine speed is too slow, move the throttle control to the FAST position. If the engine still “bogs down”, contact a Sears service facility.

If your engine will not start or runs rough, review the following potential issues and solutions:

If the engine shuts down, it is likely out of fuel. The correction is to fill the fuel tank.

If the engine lacks power, the cause is likely a dirty air filter. The solution is to replace the air filter.
