The RITETEMP 6022 is a precise instrument and should be handled with care. Always turn off the electricity to the appliance before installing or servicing the thermostat or any part of the system. Do not turn the electricity back on until the work is completed. Furthermore, do not short or jumper across electric terminals at the control on the furnace or air conditioner to test the system, as this will damage the RITETEMP 6022 and void your warranty. Ensure all wiring conforms to local codes and ordinances.

The RITETEMP 6022 is designed for use with 24 volt AC and millivolt systems. It should be limited to a maximum of 1.0 amps, as higher amperage may cause damage to the RITETEMP 6022.

Locate the RITETEMP 6022 on an inside wall, about 5 feet (1.5m) above the floor, in a room that is used often. Avoid installing it in areas with unusual heating conditions (direct sunlight, near lamps, radios, televisions, radiators, registers, fireplaces, hot water pipes in a wall, or near a stove on the other side of a wall). Also, avoid unusual cooling conditions, such as a wall separating an unheated room, or drafts from a stairwell, door, or window. Do not install the RITETEMP 6022 in a damp area, which can lead to corrosion, or where air circulation is poor, such as in a corner, an alcove, or behind an open door. Do not install the unit until all construction work and painting have been completed. The RITETEMP 6022 does not require leveling.

First, switch the electricity to the furnace and air conditioner off. Remove the cover from the old thermostat and label the wires one at a time before disconnecting them. There is no standard color code, so ignore the wire colors when removing them from their terminals. You will need at least 2.6 inches of wire for each connection to the RITETEMP 6022; if you do not have enough, splice additional wire to allow for enough slack. Fan out the wires below the hole.

Easy Terminals on the RITETEMP 6022 do not require stripping the wire. Clip any bare wire from previous installations and take care not to damage the labels for each wire during handling. Fan the wires out below the wall opening, and ensure wires are dressed behind the RITETEMP 6022 and up over the terminal area. Do not bunch wires behind the RITETEMP 6022; instead, feed slack back into the wall opening. Insert the wire into the terminal and tighten the screw securely. Ensure no wires touch each other or parts on the RITETEMP 6022. Use the Step-By-Step diagram as a guide and only connect labeled wires to a terminal with the corresponding letter.

The RITETEMP 6022 requires 2 AAA alkaline batteries to operate. Switch the mode switch to OFF and the fan switch to AUTO. Install the batteries according to the polarity noted in the compartment. Once installed, the LCD segments will turn on. Press the RESET button located under the top cover to clear transient program memory. Replace the top and bottom covers on the unit.

To check the fan (if the G wire is connected), switch the fan switch to the ON position and verify that air is blowing from the system, then return the switch to the AUTO position. To check the heat mode, set the mode switch to HEAT and the fan switch to AUTO. Use the TEMP + button to raise the target temperature to 90 degrees. Allow the system 2 minutes to respond, then verify that heat is blowing from the system. To check the cool mode, set the mode switch to COOL and press the TEMP – button to a temperature 5 degrees below the room temperature. Allow the system 2 minutes to respond, then verify that cool air is blowing from the system.

The RITETEMP 6022 can run on batteries only using 2 AAA alkaline batteries, which will last at least 1 year. Alternatively, it can run on the HVAC 24VAC (C wire) if available. If the C wire is used, the batteries serve as a backup in case of power loss. If the C wire is connected, the RITETEMP 6022 will continue to work if the batteries die or are removed.

The RITETEMP 6022 comes factory calibrated to +/- 1 degree of actual temperature. To change the calibration, set the mode switch to HEAT or COOL. Locate and press the TIME SET button. The current calibration factor (+/-) will appear on the LCD along with the modified temperature. Use the UP or DOWN arrows until the desired calibration factor is reached. Press the HOME button to save the new settings.

If you are using a heat pump with auxiliary heat and the heat pump cannot keep up or is defective, you can remove the jumper from position 8 and place the jumper on position 6. The auxiliary heat will then become the only source of heat. Be sure to restore the jumper to the PUMP position when the heat pump is operational again, as auxiliary heat is more expensive than heat pump heat.
