PROTECH QM7424 (01) PDF SUMMARY:
What should I do before using the Infrared Thermometer?
Please read the instruction manual carefully before use and keep it for future reference.
What standard does the Thermometer comply with?
The Thermometer complies with EN 60825-1:2014 Laser Standard.
What should I do to avoid personal injury when using the Thermometer?
- DO NOT point the laser directly at the eye or indirectly off reflective surfaces.
- DO NOT operate around steam, dust, or smoke, as measurements may not be accurate in these conditions.
- The Thermometer cannot accurately measure transparent surfaces such as glass or plastic.
- KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
What should I do to avoid damage to the Thermometer?
- Protect it from thermal shock by allowing 30 minutes for the Thermometer to stabilize to surrounding conditions after abrupt changes in ambient temperature.
- Avoid any electromagnetic fields (EFM) caused by electric welders, induction heaters, arc welders, etc.
- Do not place or leave the Thermometer on or near high-temperature objects.
- Keep the Thermometer clean by following the maintenance instructions.
How do I clean the lens of the Thermometer?
Blow off loose particles using clean compressed air and gently wipe the surface with a moist cotton cloth.
How do I clean the case of the Thermometer?
Use water (soap optional) on a damp sponge or cloth.
What should I do when the Thermometer will not be used for an extended period of time?
Remove the batteries and store them separately.
What should I NOT do when cleaning the Thermometer?
- DO NOT use solvent to clean the lens.
- DO NOT submerge the Thermometer in water.
How do I measure surface temperature?
Pull the Trigger on the Thermometer to measure surface temperature. The unit is equipped with a laser which is used for aiming only.
What is the MODE button used for?
The MODE button is used to access the Emissivity, Hold, Laser, Temperature Unit, High Limit, and Low Limit Alarm features.
How do I set the high limit alarm?
- Press and Hold MODE for 2 seconds.
- Press MODE until Hi is showing on the LCD screen.
- Press the Up/Down function to set the alarm to the desired high-temperature value.
- Press and hold the Up/Down function to quickly increase or decrease the set value.
- Press the Trigger or press and hold MODE to set the selection.
How do I set the low limit alarm?
- Press and Hold MODE for 2 seconds.
- Press MODE until Low is showing on the LCD screen.
- Press the Up/Down function to set the alarm to the desired low-temperature value.
- Press and hold the Up/Down function to quickly increase or decrease the set value.
- Press the Trigger or press and hold MODE to set the selection.
How do I set the emissivity?
- Press and Hold MODE for 2 seconds.
- Press MODE until Emissivity is flashing on the LCD screen.
- Press the Up/Down function to set the emissivity to the desired value.
- Press and hold the Up/Down function to quickly increase or decrease the set value.
- Press the Trigger or press and hold MODE to set the selection.
How do I switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit?
- Press and Hold MODE for 2 seconds.
- Press MODE until °C or °F is showing on the LCD screen.
- Press the Up/Down function to switch between the desired temperature unit.
- Press the Trigger or press and hold MODE to set the selection.
How do I exit mode settings?
Press Trigger or press and hold MODE.
How do I turn the laser on/off?
Press the MODE button to turn the laser on or off. The Laser Symbol will appear on the LCD screen when it is enabled.
How do I measure non-contact temperature?
- Aim the Thermometer at the surface of the object and hold in the Trigger to read continuous temperature measurements.
- Release the Trigger when the desired measurement is obtained, and the result will stay displayed on the LCD screen.
- Press and hold the Trigger to continuously measure the temperatures of the desired surface area. When the Trigger is released, the highest measured temperature will be displayed as the MAX value on the LCD screen.
- When the measured surface temperature is greater than the High Limit Alarm temperature setting or less than the Low Limit Alarm setting previously set, the user will be alerted by the illumination of the RED Alarm Indicator on the Thermometer, and the “OL” Symbol will appear on the LCD Screen.
What is the field of view (D:S Ratio) of the Thermometer?
The meter’s field of view is 12:1.
What does the 12:1 field of view mean?
If the Thermometer is 12 inches from the surface (spot), the diameter of the target must be greater than 1 inch.
How do I ensure accuracy when measuring temperature?
When accuracy is critical, make sure the target is at least twice as large as the spot size. The smaller the target, the closer the Thermometer should be to it when being measured. In general, measurements should be made as close to the target as possible.
What is emissivity?
Emissivity is the measurement of a material’s ability to radiate heat.
What is the default emissivity of the Thermometer?
The Thermometer emissivity is 0.95 by default.
How do I measure different materials accurately?
Set the Emissivity on the Thermometer to match the object being measured. Refer to Table 2 for typical emissivity settings.
How do I change the battery?
When the Low Battery Symbol appears on the LCD screen, promptly replace the Thermometer’s batteries. Carefully open the battery compartment and insert (2) AAA 1.5V batteries.
What should I do to prevent corrosion when using batteries?
- DO NOT mix different types (i.e., Alkaline, Rechargeable, Zinc-Carbon, etc.) of batteries.
- DO NOT mix old and new batteries or batteries of different brands.
- DO NOT recharge non-rechargeable batteries.
- Replace the entire set of batteries when required.
- Promptly remove dead batteries from the Thermometer and dispose of batteries properly.
- Remove batteries from the Thermometer when it is not intended to be used for extended periods of time and store batteries separately from the device, and periodically check the expiration dates.
