About the battery pack:

• To avoid risk of fire, explosion, and burns, do not disassemble, heat above 60 °C, or incinerate the battery.

About the battery charger:

• To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or product damage, do not install or place this unit in a bookcase, built-in cabinet, or in another confined space. Ensure the unit is well-ventilated.

• The battery charger is in a standby condition when the AC power supply cord is connected. The primary circuit is always “live” as long as the power cord is connected to an electrical outlet.

For your safety, the PANASONIC LUMIX DMC-FZ200 is supplied with a moulded three-pin mains plug fitted with a 5-ampere fuse. If the fuse needs to be replaced, ensure the replacement is also rated at 5-amperes and is approved by ASTA or BSI to BS1362. Look for the ASTA mark or BSI mark on the fuse body.

To replace the fuse:

Step 1. Open the fuse cover with a screwdriver. The location of the fuse differs according to the type of AC mains plug.

Step 2. Replace the fuse and close or attach the fuse cover.

If your plug has a removable fuse cover, you must refit it after replacing the fuse. If you lose the cover, do not use the plug until a replacement is obtained from your local dealer.

When using your PANASONIC LUMIX DMC-FZ200, please observe the following cautions:

• Always use a genuine Panasonic AV cable (DMW-AVC1: optional).

• Always use a genuine Panasonic HDMI mini cable (RP-CDHM15, RP-CDHM30: optional).

• Do not use any other USB connection cables except the supplied one or a genuine Panasonic USB connection cable (DMW-USBC1: optional).

• Always use a genuine Panasonic remote shutter (DMW-RSL1: optional).

Keep this unit away from electromagnetic equipment (e.g., microwave ovens, TVs, video games):

• If used on or near a TV, pictures and sound may be disrupted by electromagnetic waves.

• Using the camera near cell phones may result in noise that adversely affects pictures and sound.

• Strong magnetic fields from speakers or large motors can damage recorded data or distort pictures.

• If the camera is affected by electromagnetic equipment and stops working properly, turn it off, remove the battery or disconnect the AC adaptor, then reinsert the battery or reconnect the adaptor and turn the unit back on.

Do not use this unit near radio transmitters or high-voltage lines:

• Recording near these sources may adversely affect the recorded pictures and/or sound.

To ensure the longevity of your PANASONIC LUMIX DMC-FZ200, follow these care instructions:

• Do not subject the camera to strong vibration, shock, or pressure. The lens, LCD monitor, or external case can be damaged if you drop or hit the camera, or press hard on the lens or LCD monitor.

• Protect the lens. When the camera is not in use or during playback, ensure the lens is retracted and the lens cap is on.

• Note on camera sounds. Rattling sounds or vibrations may come from the camera, which are due to the motion of the aperture, zoom, and motor. This does not indicate a defect.

• This camera is not dust/splash/water proof. Avoid using the camera in locations with a lot of dust, water, sand, etc.

• Liquid, sand, and other foreign materials can enter the camera around the lens and buttons, potentially causing malfunctions or irreparable damage. Be especially careful in sandy or dusty places, or on a rainy day or at the beach.

Before using your PANASONIC LUMIX DMC-FZ200, please check that all the following accessories are included:

1. Battery Pack (DMW-BLC12E): Needs to be charged before first use.

2. Battery Charger (DE-A80A)

3. AC Mains Lead (K2CT3YY00034)

4. USB Connection Cable (K1HY08YY0025)

5. CD-ROM (VFF1046): Contains software.

6. CD-ROM: Contains “Operating Instructions for advanced features”.

Note: An SD Memory Card is optional. You can record or play back pictures on the built-in memory without a card.

The following optional accessories can be purchased for your PANASONIC LUMIX DMC-FZ200. Some accessories may not be available in some countries.

*1 The AC Adaptor can only be used with the designated Panasonic DC Coupler. The AC adaptor cannot be used by itself.

*2 The lens adaptor is necessary to attach a tele conversion lens or close-up lens.

Attaching the Lens Cap

When you turn the camera off or carry it, attach the lens cap to protect the lens surface.

Step 1. Pass the string through the hole on the camera body.

Step 2. Pass the same string through the hole on the lens cap.

Step 3. Attach the lens cap to the lens.

Attaching the Shoulder Strap

We recommend attaching the shoulder strap to prevent the camera from being dropped.

Step 1. Pass the shoulder strap through the hole at the shoulder strap eyelet.

Step 2. Pass the shoulder strap through the stopper and fasten it. Pull the shoulder strap so that at least 2 cm (0.066 feet) is secured.

Step 3. Attach the other end of the strap to the other side of the camera, being careful not to twist it.

Before starting, check that the camera is turned off and the flash is closed.

Step 1. Attach the lens hood to the lens with the short side of the hood aligned with the bottom of the main unit. Do not hold the lens hood in a way that twists or bends it.

Step 2. Rotate the lens hood in the direction of the arrow.

Step 3. You will feel some stiffness just before the mark, but continue to rotate the lens hood until the marks align. The lens hood will stop with a “click”. Check that the lens hood is firmly attached and does not appear in the picture.

Note: When temporarily detaching and carrying the lens hood, you can attach it to the lens in the reverse direction for storage. Return it to the normal direction when taking pictures.

Use the dedicated charger and battery (DMW-BLC12E) for your PANASONIC LUMIX DMC-FZ200. The battery is not charged when shipped, so charge it before first use. Charge the battery indoors where the temperature is between 10 °C and 30 °C (50 °F to 86 °F).

Step 1. Attach the battery to the charger, paying attention to the direction of the battery.

Step 2. Connect the AC Mains Lead to the charger and plug it into a power outlet.

The [CHARGE] indicator on the charger will light up, and charging will begin.

• [CHARGE] Indicator On: Charging.

• [CHARGE] Indicator Off: Charging has completed.

The charging time is approximately 140 minutes.

First, ensure the camera is turned off and the lens barrel is retracted. We recommend using a Panasonic memory card.

Step 1. Slide the release lever in the direction of the arrow and open the card/battery door.

Step 2. Insert or remove the battery and/or memory card.

• Battery: Always use a genuine Panasonic battery (DMW-BLC12E). Being careful about the orientation, insert it all the way until you hear a locking sound. Check that it is locked by the lever. To remove the battery, pull the lever in the direction of the arrow.

• Card: Being careful about the direction, push the card in securely until you hear a “click”. To remove the card, push it in until it clicks, then pull it straight out. Do not touch the connection terminals on the back of the card.

Step 3. Close the card/battery door, then slide the release lever to the locked position.

Note: Keep the Memory Card out of reach of children to prevent swallowing.

Step 1. Turn the camera on. The clock is not set when the camera is shipped; set the date and time before using the camera.

Step 2. Press the shutter button halfway to focus.

Step 3. Press the shutter button fully to take the picture.

You can switch the recording mode on your PANASONIC LUMIX DMC-FZ200 by rotating the mode dial. Each mode offers different levels of control:

• iA (Intelligent Auto): Take pictures with automatic settings. The camera determines the most appropriate settings.

• P (Program AE): Take pictures with your own settings, while the camera sets the aperture and shutter speed.

• A (Aperture-Priority AE): You set the aperture value, and the shutter speed is automatically determined.

• S (Shutter-Priority AE): You set the shutter speed, and the aperture value is automatically determined.

• M (Manual Exposure): You manually adjust both the aperture value and the shutter speed.

• M (Motion Picture): Record motion pictures with manual settings.

• C1, C2 (Custom): Use this mode to take pictures with previously registered settings.

• SCN (Scene Mode): Take pictures according to a selected scene (e.g., Portrait, Landscape).

• (Creative Control): Record while checking an image effect on the screen.

Recording Motion Pictures

• Start recording by pressing the motion picture button.

• Stop recording by pressing the motion picture button again.

• The maximum continuous recording time with [AVCHD] or [MP4] is 29 minutes 59 seconds (or up to 4 GB for [MP4]).

Playing Back Pictures ([Normal Play])

• Press the playback button ([>]).

• Press the left or right cursor buttons to select the picture you want to view.

Deleting Pictures

• While viewing a picture, select it and then press the Delete button ([Trash can]/5).

• A confirmation screen will be displayed. Select [Yes] to delete the picture.

Intelligent Auto Mode allows the camera to set the most appropriate settings to match the subject and recording conditions, which is recommended for beginners.

Step 1. Set the mode dial to [iA].

Step 2. Press the shutter button halfway to focus, and then press it fully to take the picture.

Taking Pictures with Defocus Control Function

In Intelligent Auto Mode, you can easily adjust the blurriness of the background.

Step 1. Press the rear dial to display the defocus control icon.

Step 2. Press the left/right cursor buttons or rotate the rear dial to adjust the background blur. To reset to the default state (AUTO), press the [Delete] button.

Step 3. Press [MENU/SET] or the rear dial to set your adjustment.

In Intelligent Auto Plus Mode, you can adjust brightness, colour balance, and background blur in addition to the standard Intelligent Auto functions.

Step 1. When in Intelligent Auto Mode, press [MENU/SET].

Step 2. Press the right cursor button to select [iA+] and then press [MENU/SET].

Adjusting the brightness, colour balance, and background blur

Step 1. Press the rear dial to display the adjustment options.

Step 2. Press the up/down cursor buttons to select the item you wish to adjust:

• Adjust the brightness.

• Adjust the background blur.

• Adjust the colour balance.

Step 3. Press the left/right cursor buttons or rotate the rear dial to make your adjustment. Press the [Delete] button to reset to the default state (AUTO).

Step 4. Press [MENU/SET] or the rear dial to confirm the setting.

The rear dial on your PANASONIC LUMIX DMC-FZ200 can be used to compensate exposure or adjust aperture and shutter speed, depending on the recording mode.

Compensating the Exposure (Applicable in P, A, S, M, C1, C2, SCN modes)

Step 1. Press the rear dial to activate Exposure Compensation.

Step 2. Rotate the rear dial to compensate the exposure. The Exposure Compensation value and Exposure Meter will be displayed on the screen. Set the value to [0] when you do not wish to compensate the exposure.

Setting the Aperture Value/the Shutter Speed

Step 1. Press the rear dial to cycle through the items you can set.

• Programme Shift (Recording mode: P): Change the preset aperture value and shutter speed combination without changing the overall exposure.

• Aperture Value (Recording mode: A/M): Set to a higher number for a sharp focus background or a lower number for a soft focus background.

• Shutter Speed (Recording mode: S/M): Set a faster speed to capture a sharp picture of a fast-moving subject, or a slower speed to create a trail effect.

Step 2. Once the desired item is selected, rotate the rear dial to set its value.

Creative Control Mode allows you to record images with additional artistic effects.

Step 1. Set the mode dial to the Creative Control icon.

Step 2. Press the up/down cursor buttons to select an image effect (filter) and then press [MENU/SET]. A preview of the effect will be applied to the live view on the screen. A brief description of the selected effect appears when you press [DISP.].

Adjust the effect to fit your preferences

You can adjust the strength and colours of the effects.

Step 1. Press the rear dial to display the adjustment options.

Step 2. Press the up/down cursor buttons to select an item to adjust (e.g., brightness, background blur, image effect).

Step 3. Press the left/right cursor buttons or rotate the rear dial to adjust. You can press the [Delete] button to reset to the default state (AUTO).

Step 4. Press [MENU/SET] or the rear dial to confirm the setting.

Accessing and Setting Menu Items

Step 1. Press [MENU/SET].

Step 2. Press the up/down cursor buttons or rotate the rear dial to select a menu item.

Step 3. Press the right cursor button or the rear dial to enter the settings for that item.

Step 4. Press the up/down cursor buttons or rotate the rear dial to select the desired setting.

Step 5. Press [MENU/SET] or the rear dial to confirm the setting.

Closing the Menu

Press [MENU/SET] or press the shutter button halfway.

Switching to Other Menus (e.g., from [Rec] to [Setup])

Step 1. With the menu open, press [MENU/SET].

Step 2. Press the left cursor button.

Step 3. Press the up/down cursor buttons or rotate the rear dial to select the desired menu icon (e.g., the wrench icon for [Setup]).

Step 4. Press the right cursor button or the rear dial to enter the selected menu.

More detailed instructions are contained in the “Operating Instructions for advanced features (PDF format)” on the supplied CD-ROM. Install it on your PC to read it. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or later.

For Windows:

Step 1. Turn on your PC and insert the supplied CD-ROM containing the Operating Instructions.

Step 2. Select the desired language and then click [Operating Instructions] to install.

Step 3. Double-click the “Operating Instructions” shortcut icon created on your desktop to open the manual.

For Mac:

Step 1. Turn on your PC and insert the supplied CD-ROM.

Step 2. Open the “Manual” folder in the CD-ROM and then copy the PDF file with the desired language inside the folder to your computer.

Step 3. Double-click the copied PDF file to open it.

The supplied CD-ROM for the PANASONIC LUMIX DMC-FZ200 includes the following software. Before inserting the CD-ROM, close all running applications.

• PHOTOfunSTUDIO 8.3 PE (Windows XP/Vista/7): Software for copying pictures to a PC, editing, and printing.

• SILKYPIX Developer Studio (Windows XP/Vista/7, Mac OS X v10.4-v10.7): Software to edit RAW format images.

• LoiLoScope 30 day full trial version (Windows XP/Vista/7): This installs a shortcut to the trial version download site.

Installation on Windows:

Step 1. Check that your PC meets the operating environment requirements.

Step 2. Insert the CD-ROM with the supplied software. The install menu should start automatically.

Step 3. Click on the [Recommended Installation].

Step 4. Proceed with the installation according to the messages appearing on the screen.

Installation of SILKYPIX on Mac:

“PHOTOfunSTUDIO” is not compatible with Mac. SILKYPIX can be installed manually.

Step 1. Insert the CD-ROM with the supplied software.

Step 2. Double-click on the automatically displayed folder.

Step 3. Double-click the icon in the application folder.
