When using the remote control, please follow these safety precautions:

• Do not use rechargeable (Ni-Cd) batteries.

• Do not allow infants and small children to play with the remote control to prevent them from accidentally swallowing the batteries.

• Remove the batteries if the unit is not going to be used for a long period of time.

• New batteries of the same type must be inserted following the polarity stated to prevent malfunction of the remote control.

Please observe the following warnings and cautions for the indoor unit:

Warnings (risk of death or serious injury):

• Do not install, remove and reinstall the unit by yourself; improper installation will cause leakage, electric shock or fire. Please consult an authorized dealer or specialist for the installation work.

• Do not insert your fingers or other objects into the unit, as rotating parts may cause injury.

• Do not attempt to repair the unit by yourself.

Cautions (risk of injury or property damage):

• Do not install the unit in a potentially explosive atmosphere.

• Do not wash the unit with water, benzene, thinner or scouring powder.

• Do not use for other purposes such as preservation of food.

• Do not use any combustible equipment in front of the airflow outlet.

• Do not expose directly to cold air for a long period.

• Ensure that the drainage pipe is connected properly. Otherwise, leakage may occur.

• Aerate the room regularly.

Follow these safety guidelines for the power supply:

Warnings (risk of death or serious injury):

• Do not share the same power outlet with other equipment.

• Do not modify power cords.

• Do not use extension cords.

• Do not operate with wet hands.

• Use the specified supply cord.

• If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.

• This equipment must be earthed and it is strongly recommended to be installed with an Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB) or Residual Current Device (RCD). Otherwise, it may cause electrical shock or fire in case of malfunction.

• In case of emergency or abnormal conditions (burnt smell, etc), turn off the power supply, and please consult an authorized dealer.

Cautions (risk of injury or property damage):

• Switch off the power supply before cleaning or servicing.

• Turn off the power supply if the unit is not used for a long period of time.

• This air conditioner is equipped with a built-in surge protective device. However, to further protect it from abnormally strong lightning, you may want to disconnect it from the power supply. Do not touch the air conditioner during lightning, as it may cause electric shock.

For the outdoor unit, please observe the following safety measures:

Warning (risk of death or serious injury):

• Do not insert your fingers or other objects into the unit; rotating parts may cause injury.

Cautions (risk of injury or property damage):

• Do not sit or step on the unit, you may fall down accidentally.

• Do not touch the sharp aluminium fin; sharp parts may cause injury.

• Ensure that the drainage pipe is connected properly. Otherwise, leakage may occur.

• After long periods of use, make sure the installation rack is not damaged.

Use the PANASONIC CU-4E23JBE air conditioner under the following temperature ranges:

Single Split Outdoor Unit Models (CU-E7JKE, CU-E9JKE, CU-E12JKE, CU-E15JKE, CU-E15JKE-1)

NOTICE: This model is not suitable for 24 hours non-stopping operation in heating mode below -5°C. When the outdoor temperature is below -5°C and you use this model out of the above conditions, the outdoor unit might freeze up and stop operation for protection control.

Multi Split Outdoor Unit Models (including CU-4E23JBE)

* DBT: Dry bulb temperature

* WBT: Wet bulb temperature

Multi air conditioner systems save space by letting you connect multiple indoor units to a single outdoor unit.

• It is possible to operate the indoor units individually or simultaneously. The operation mode priority is given to the first unit that is turned on.

• During operation, heating and cooling mode cannot be activated at the same time for different indoor units. The power indicator blinks to indicate the indoor unit is standing by for a different operation mode.

Caution: PATROL and e-ion operations can be activated even when the air-conditioner is turned off. In this condition, once the e-ion indicator is ON, the unit will operate with AUTO fan speed and air swing. However, this operation cannot be activated or will be deactivated if another indoor unit is activating heating mode.

The Auto OFF/ON button on the indoor unit can be used when the remote control is misplaced or malfunctioning.

The indicator lights on the front of the unit provide information about its status:

• PATROL SENSOR: Blue

• POWER: Green

• TIMER: Orange

• QUIET: Orange

• POWERFUL: Orange

• e-ion: Blue

• MILD DRY COOLING: Blue

Press the MODE button to select the desired operation mode.

• AUTO mode – For your convenience: The unit selects the operation mode every 3 hours according to the temperature setting, outdoor, and room temperature. The power indicator blinks during selection.

• HEAT mode – To enjoy warm air: The unit takes a while to warm up. The power indicator blinks during this operation.

• COOL mode – To enjoy cool air.

• DRY mode – To dehumidify the environment: The unit operates at a low fan speed to provide a gentle cooling operation.

To set the temperature:

Press the TEMP up or down buttons. The selection range is 16°C to 30°C. Operating within the recommended ranges can save energy:

• HEAT mode: 20°C ~ 24°C.

• COOL mode: 26°C ~ 28°C.

• DRY mode: 1°C ~ 2°C lower than room temperature.

To select fan speed:

Press the FAN SPEED button to cycle through the 5 options. For AUTO fan speed, the indoor fan speed is automatically adjusted according to the operation mode.

To adjust vertical airflow direction:

Press the AIR SWING button to cycle through the 5 options. If AUTO is set, the louvers swing up/down automatically. In heat mode, the air blows horizontally for a while, then starts to blow downwards.

The PANASONIC CU-4E23JBE includes several special features for enhanced comfort and air quality:

• e-ion (TO ENJOY CLEAN & FRESH AIR): Generates negative ions to produce a fresh air effect and attract dust, which is then captured by the positively charged e-ion filters.

• PATROL (TO MONITOR AIR QUALITY): The patrol sensor detects air quality. If the quality is unsatisfactory, the e-ion operation starts automatically.

• MILD DRY COOLING (For single Split System): Reduces air dryness for a more comfortable environment. It can only be activated in COOL mode.

• QUIET (TO ENJOY QUIET ENVIRONMENT): This operation reduces airflow noise.

• POWERFUL (TO ACHIEVE TEMPERATURE QUICKLY): Quickly reaches the desired temperature.

Usage Notes:

• PATROL, e-ion, QUIET, and POWERFUL can be activated in all modes and cancelled by pressing the respective button again.

• PATROL, e-ion and MILD DRY COOLING/QUIET/POWERFUL cannot be selected at the same time.

• PATROL and e-ion can be activated even when the unit is turned off. In this condition, fan speed and air swing cannot be adjusted.

To set the timer to turn the unit ON or OFF at a preset time, follow these steps:

Step 1. Press the ON or OFF button in the TIMER section to select the ON or OFF timer.

Step 2. Use the arrow buttons to set the desired time.

Step 3. Press the SET button to confirm.

To cancel the ON or OFF timer, press the corresponding ON or OFF button and then press CANCEL.

Additional Information:

• When the ON Timer is set, the unit may start earlier (up to 35 minutes) before the actual set time to achieve the desired temperature on time.

• Timer operation is based on the clock set in the remote control and repeats daily once set.

• If the timer is cancelled manually or due to a power failure, you can restore the previous setting (once power is resumed) by pressing SET.

You can access optional settings by pressing and holding certain buttons:

• Disable/Restore Patrol Automatic Start: When the unit is switched on with the OFF/ON button, Patrol starts automatically. To disable or restore this, press and hold the PATROL button for 5 seconds, then release.

• Adjust Indicator Brightness: Press and hold the “down arrow” TEMP button for 5 seconds to dim or restore the unit’s indicator brightness.

• Change Temperature Unit: Press and hold the “up arrow” TEMP button for approximately 10 seconds to show the temperature setting in °C or °F.

• Change Time Format: Press and hold the CLOCK button for approximately 5 seconds to show 12-hour (am/pm) or 24-hour time indication.

• Restore Default Settings: Press the RC RESET button to restore the remote control’s default settings.

Before cleaning, switch off the power supply. Do not touch the aluminum fin, as sharp parts may cause injury.

General Washing Instructions:

• Do not use benzene, thinner or scouring powder.

• Use only soap (pH7) or neutral household detergent.

• Do not use water hotter than 40°C.

Front Panel:

1. Raise and pull to remove the front panel.

2. Wash it gently and dry it.

3. To close, press down on both ends of the front panel to close it securely.

e-ion Filters:

1. Clean the filters regularly.

2. Wash/rinse the filters gently with water to avoid damage.

3. Dry the filters thoroughly under the shade, away from fire or direct sunlight.

4. Replace any damaged filter.

Indoor Unit:

Wipe the unit gently with a soft, dry cloth.

Active e-ion Generator:

Clean with a dry cotton bud. Cleaning is recommended every 6 months.

For Seasonal Inspection After Extended Non-Use:

• Check the remote control batteries.

• Ensure there is no obstruction at the air inlet and air outlet vents.

• Use the Auto OFF/ON button to select Cooling/Heating operation. After 15 minutes, it is normal to have a temperature difference between the air inlet and outlet vents of: Cooling ≥ 8°C, Heating ≥ 14°C.

For Extended Non-Use:

• Activate Heat mode for 2-3 hours to remove moisture left in the internal parts thoroughly.

• Turn off the power supply.

• Remove the remote control batteries.

Turn off the power supply and consult an authorized dealer under the following non-serviceable conditions:

• Abnormal noise during operation.

• Water/foreign particles have entered the remote control.

• Water leaks from the Indoor unit.

• The circuit breaker switches off frequently.

• The power cord becomes unnaturally warm.

• Switches or buttons are not functioning properly.

The following symptoms do not indicate a malfunction:

Please check the following before calling for servicing:

Use the remote control to retrieve the error code:

Step 1. Press and hold the up arrow button in the TIMER section for 5 seconds.

Step 2. Press the up/down arrow buttons until you hear a beep sound, then jot down the error code.

Step 3. Press the up arrow button in the TIMER section again for 5 seconds to quit checking.

Step 4. Turn the unit off and reveal the error code to an authorized dealer.

Note: For certain errors, you may restart the unit with limited operation, with 4 beeps occurring as operation starts.

Step 1. Pull out the back cover of the remote control.

Step 2. Insert AAA or R03 batteries. They can be used for approximately 1 year.

Step 3. Close the cover.

Step 4. Press the CLOCK button.

Step 5. Set the time using the arrow buttons.

Step 6. Press the SET button to confirm.
