The minimum system requirements for the PAKEDGE WA-4200 are:

• PoE+ switch or injector, or an AC power adapter (not included).

• A computer with an Ethernet port (for first AP setup).

The default settings and credentials for the PAKEDGE WA-4200 are as follows:

• IP address: The IP will be automatically assigned by a router if a DHCP server is detected. If no DHCP server is detected, the default IP address will be 192.168.1.21.

• Username/Password: admin/password

• SSIDs: Pakedge_Main (5 GHz) and Pakedge_Alt (2.4 GHz)

• Security/password: WPA2-PSK / pakedgewireless

• Guest SSIDs: PakedgeGuest2.4 and PakedgeGuest5

• Guest Security/password: WPA2 / pakedgeguest

• Transmit power for US and International models: 18 dBm for 5 GHz and 13 dBm for 2.4 GHz

The first time you log in to your PAKEDGE WA-4200, you are brought to the Configure tab. Here you should:

• Change your username and password (strongly recommended).

• Specify the device’s network name and physical location.

• Set the Country Code.

• Create or hide wireless networks.

Note: For PAKEDGE WA-4200 APs sold in the U.S. and Israel, the Country Code will be preconfigured and locked. For units sold in the rest of the world, the Country Code will be blank and must be configured on the Configure tab during the first-time setup.

On the Configure tab of your PAKEDGE WA-4200, you can set the following general device information:

• Username and Password: Change the login from the defaults (“admin” and “password”) to new credentials.

• Friendly Device Name: Give the AP a descriptive name to identify it on its web interface and in OvrC.

• Device Location: Describe the physical location of the AP.

• Device Note: Add any other notes, such as date of installation and the technician name.

• Time Zone: Select the time zone used for the AP’s event logs.

• Country Code: Select the country where the AP is installed.

LAN Settings:

• IP Network Settings: Select the method for assigning IP addresses (DHCP or Static).

• IP Address: For a static IP, enter the AP’s IP address. This field is read-only for DHCP.

• Subnet Mask: For a static IP, enter the AP’s subnet mask. This field is read-only for DHCP.

• Gateway: For a static IP, enter the AP’s Gateway address. This field is read-only for DHCP.

DNS Settings:

• DNS Server: For a static IP, enter up to two DNS server IP addresses. These fields are read-only for DHCP.

Wireless Networks (5 GHz, 2.4 GHz, and Guest):

• Enter an SSID (wireless network name), select the authentication type, enter the WiFi password, and specify the VLAN this network is associated with. You can click the eye icon to view the password. Select “Hide” to not broadcast the wireless network’s SSID.

The Overview tab of the PAKEDGE WA-4200 provides a quick view of the AP’s status and critical settings, including:

• Notifications: System notifications, such as an available firmware update, display at the top.

• Name: The device name assigned in the Configure tab.

• IP address and MAC address: The device’s assigned IP and unique MAC address.

• Update Firmware button: Opens the Update Firmware screen.

• Restart device button: Immediately restarts (power cycles) the AP with no confirmation dialog.

• Network information: Displays the number of wireless network SSIDs and the number of channels used by each.

• Services: Shows the status of current services and settings, indicating with an icon whether they are optimally configured.

The Connections tab on the PAKEDGE WA-4200 displays a list of connected wireless devices. You can click any column head to sort the list by that field. The available fields are:

• Hostname

• IP Address

• MAC Address

• Device OS

• Connected To

• Strength

• Band

• Duration

• TX/RX

You can backup and restore the configuration of your PAKEDGE WA-4200 using the Backup/Restore tab:

• Save Configuration (Backup): Click “Save Configuration” to save a file that contains all of the AP’s current settings.

• Restore Configuration: Click “Choose File” to select a previously saved configuration backup file. Then, click “Restore” to apply the settings from the selected file to the AP.

The Logs tab on the PAKEDGE WA-4200 displays a record of system events, which are categorized and sortable by severity, timestamp, and details.

• Enable Remote Syslog: You can save logs to another network device by enabling this option and specifying the remote Syslog server’s IP address and port.

• Download Detailed Logs: Click this button to download more verbose descriptions of the logged events.

Navigate to the Advanced tab and click the Device Settings tile. Here you can configure:

• LEDs: Select to enable or deselect to disable the AP’s LEDs.

• Hostname: Enter the hostname for the device.

• Factory Default: Click to restore the AP to factory default settings.

• Diagnostic Tools:

– Ping: Select to ping a device at the indicated IP address or domain.

– Traceroute: Select to run a traceroute to the indicated IP address or domain.

Navigate to the Advanced tab and click the LAN Settings tile to configure the following:

• Management VLAN: Click the toggle to enable the management VLAN and enter the VLAN ID the AP is associated with.

• Spanning Tree Protocol (STP): Click the toggle to enable STP, then select a Priority. A lower priority makes it more likely the switch becomes the root bridge. (STP priority is changed in increments of 4,096 from the default of 32768).

• LACP (Link Aggregation Control Protocol): Enable this to bond the two Gigabit Ethernet ports into a single high-capacity link for environments requiring more than 1Gbps of wireless data. To set up link aggregation:

1. On the PAKEDGE WA-4200 interface, go to Advanced > LAN Settings, then enable LACP.

2. On the managed network switch, configure two switch ports to use LACP.

3. Connect the two LAN ports of the PAKEDGE WA-4200 to the two LACP-enabled ports on the switch.

In the Advanced > Wireless Settings tile, you can configure:

• Band Steering: When enabled, this feature steers 5 GHz-capable clients to that frequency. Enabling this will copy the 2.4 GHz SSID and settings to the 5 GHz band.

• RF Scan: Click to perform an automatic site survey of RF signals. The AP will scan channels for connected devices and display them in a table.

You can also enable/disable the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz radio bands individually and configure their specific settings.

Both the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands on the PAKEDGE WA-4200 have the following operating modes, available under Advanced > Wireless Settings:

• Access Point: Standard mode of operation that allows a wireless connection to the LAN.

• WDS Root: The AP with this mode set will be the “root” device that APs configured with WDS Repeater and WDS Bridge will connect to.

• WDS Bridge: This mode allows the AP to connect to a WDS Root Access Point. It takes the SSID broadcasted by the WDS Root and turns it into Ethernet connectivity for client devices.

• WDS Repeater: This mode allows the AP to connect to a WDS Root Access Point. It takes the SSID from the WDS Root and rebroadcasts it to end-user devices.

These settings are found in the Advanced > Wireless Settings tile for each radio band:

• Channel Width: Select the channel width. The default is HT 80 MHz for 5 GHz and HT 20 MHz for 2.4 GHz. It is recommended to keep the 2.4 GHz radio at 20 MHz.

• Channel: The default setting (Auto) lets the AP automatically select the best channel. You can also manually select a channel from the drop-down list. Channel options depend on the selected Country Code.

• Transmit Power Level: This can be used to increase or decrease the coverage area. The “Auto” setting adjusts power based on the distance to the furthest client. Static power levels are also available.

• Multicast Handling: Enable the “Convert to Unicast” toggle to enhance video/audio quality when streaming multicast content to multiple devices. This feature is not recommended if the multicast group exceeds 10 devices.

Roaming features for the PAKEDGE WA-4200 are located under Advanced > Wireless Settings:

• Fast BSS transition (802.11r): Enabling this feature reduces the authentication time when clients roam from one AP to another, which is beneficial for video streaming and voice applications. Note that wireless clients also need to support the 802.11r standard to get the full benefit. It is not recommended to enable both band steering and fast roaming features, as this can cause incompatibility issues.

• Client Reject RSSI: This feature helps with “sticky” clients that don’t roam effectively. When enabled, the AP monitors a client’s received signal strength (RSSI) and will de-authenticate the client if its RSSI falls below a user-defined threshold, encouraging it to connect to a closer AP. This setting can be configured independently for the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz radios.

Under Advanced > Wireless Settings, you can configure the Guest Network Client IP Assignment:

• DHCP: Select Internal or External.

• Starting IP Address: The beginning of the DHCP range used on the guest network.

• Ending IP Address: The last IP address available in the DHCP range.

• Subnet Mask: Select the class of the guest network. The default is 255.255.255.0.

• GW IP Address: Enter the Gateway IP address.

• DNS server IP address: This can be set to an external DNS or to the router’s IP address if the router provides a DNS server.

To set up access control for connected clients on your PAKEDGE WA-4200, follow these steps:

1. Go to the Advanced tab and click the Access Control tile.

2. Click “Add”.

3. Select the client you wish to add to the access control list.

4. Click “Apply”.

The client and its identifying information (Hostname, IP Address, MAC Address) will be added to the Access Control list. You can click any column head to sort the list.

You can update the firmware on your PAKEDGE WA-4200 through the web interface. You can access the firmware screen from the “Update Firmware” button on the Overview tab or by clicking the Firmware tile on the Advanced tab.

• If your firmware is up to date, the screen will show your current firmware version and a link to its release notes.

• If a firmware update is available, the screen will show the update version and its release notes. Click the “Upgrade” button to update the firmware from the cloud.

To add your PAKEDGE WA-4200 to your OvrC account for remote device management, real-time notifications, and intuitive customer management, follow these steps:

1. Connect the AP to the internet.

2. Log into your OvrC account.

3. Add the Device using its MAC address and serial numbers for authentication.

Restart (Reboot) the AP while maintaining settings:

• Using the interface: In the Overview or Connections tab, click “Restart Device”. The AP restarts immediately.

• Using the physical RESET button: While the AP is powered on, insert a narrow, pointed object (like a paper clip) into the recessed RESET button hole, then press and release the button.

Reset to factory default settings, deleting all user settings:

• Using the interface:

1. Go to the Advanced tab and click Device Settings.

2. Click “Factory Default,” then click “Yes.”

• Using the physical RESET button:

1. While the AP is powered on, insert a narrow, pointed object into the RESET button hole.

2. Press and hold the button for at least ten seconds, then release it.

Caution: Do not power off the PAKEDGE WA-4200 during a factory reset.
