When operating the OSTBA SL-5230D12C, please follow these safety instructions:

• If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons to avoid a hazard.

• Do not use the appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or if it malfunctions or has been damaged. Ensure a damaged cord or plug is replaced by a competent and qualified repair service. Do not attempt to repair the appliance yourself.

• Never move the appliance by pulling the cord and ensure the cord cannot become entangled.

• Place the appliance on a stable, level surface.

• This appliance is for household purposes only.

• To prevent electric shock, do not immerse the cord, plug, or appliance in water or any other liquid.

• Switch off and unplug the appliance before changing accessories or handling moving parts.

• Always unplug the device if left unattended and before assembly, disassembly, or cleaning.

• This appliance must be used with the sliding feed table and piece holder in position, unless impossible due to the food’s size or shape.

• Do not operate with wet hands or on a wet floor.

• Never use accessories not recommended by the manufacturer.

• Keep the appliance away from hot surfaces and open flames. Operate on a level, stable, clean, and dry surface.

• Unplug the appliance when not in use and before cleaning.

• If the appliance overheats, stop using it and unplug it.

• Never leave the appliance unattended during use.

• Keep hands, hair, clothing, and utensils away from the cutting blade during operation.

• The appliance is intended for short-term operation. After 5 minutes of use, let it cool for at least 30 minutes. Do not overload the appliance.

Before the first use of your OSTBA SL-5230D12C, please follow these steps:

1. Take the appliance and accessories out of the box. Remove any stickers, protective foil, or plastic.

2. Check for the presence of all parts and for any transport damage.

3. Plug the power cable into a socket. Ensure the voltage on the device (120V~ 60Hz 200W) matches the local voltage.

4. Wipe all removable parts with a damp cloth. Never use abrasive products.

5. Clean the whole appliance as per the cleaning section.

6. Place the appliance on a dry, flat, and stable surface.

7. Apply downward pressure so that the suction feet get a good grip.

1. Use the thickness adjustment knob to choose the desired cutting width, adjustable from 1 to 15 mm.

2. Slide the food carriage to the left and place the food on it.

3. Place the food holder on the carriage and use it to push the food slightly against the back cover.

4. To activate the device, you must use the dual-action on/off switch. First, bring the safety switch towards yourself, then simultaneously push the on/off switch. The appliance will start.

5. To stop the appliance, push the on/off switch again.

6. Slowly slide the tray to the right against the rotating blade.

7. Catch the sliced food at the back of the device.

WARNING! Do not touch the blade; it is very sharp and can cause severe injury. Never use the device without the slicing guard.

NOTE: When you turn off the device, the blade will continue to turn for a short while. Do not touch it until it has completely stopped.

Unplug the appliance and allow it to cool down completely. Use a soft, slightly damp cloth to wipe the appliance surfaces. Do not allow water or any other liquid to get into the unit.

WARNING! Before removing the blade, disconnect the power plug. Never touch the edges of the blade. Make sure the removed cutting knife cannot roll off the table and keep children at a safe distance.

1. To remove the cutting blade, push the ‘push button’ in the middle of the blade. A latch will come out.

2. Turn the latch clockwise to unlock and remove the cutting blade.

3. You can now clean the blade in soapy water. The blade is also dishwasher safe.

4. To put the cutting blade back, make sure the tabs on the blade match up with the appliance. Put the blade on and lock it by turning the latch counter-clockwise.

To disassemble and clean the tie rod and blade guard, locate the hatch on the right side of the tie rod. Slide this hatch to the right. You can now take out the rod and clean these parts.

Store the appliance in a cool, dry, and clean place, out of the reach of children and pets. It is recommended to keep the original packaging for transporting or storing the appliance when not in use for a prolonged period.

Hot Roasts (Beef, Pork, Lamb, Turkey, Ham): Allow roasts to cool for 15-20 minutes after removing from the oven before slicing. This helps the meat retain its natural juices and slice without crumbling. For rolled roasts, remove strings one at a time as they get closer to the blade (with the appliance off).

Extra-Thin Sliced Corned Beef or Fresh Beef Brisket: Chill cooked brisket overnight in its juices. Before slicing, drain, reserve the juices, and pat the brisket dry. Remove excess fat. Slice while well-chilled.

Cheese: Slice cheese while it is well chilled. Allow it to reach room temperature before serving to enhance its flavor. If cheese sticks to the blade, turn off the appliance, wait for the blade to stop, and wipe it with a damp cloth.

Cold Cuts, Sandwich Meat, and Back Bacon: Chill thoroughly before slicing for best results. Remove any plastic or hard casing. Use constant, gentle pressure for uniform slices.

Fruits and Vegetables: Slice potatoes for chips, slice carrots lengthwise for thin strips (soak in ice water to curl), and slice zucchini, eggplant, and squash.

Bread, Cakes, and Cookies: The slicer is effective for coarse-textured bread and cakes. Freshly baked bread should be cooled before slicing. Use day-old bread for extra-thin slices for toasting. For wafer-like icebox cookies, chill the dough in the refrigerator before slicing.

Extra tip for soft, hard-to-slice food: Chill in the freezer for 2-4 hours before slicing to make it much easier.

The food to be sliced must be defrosted, unpackaged, and deboned before slicing. Do not use the OSTBA SL-5230D12C to slice the following:

• Hard frozen foods

• Meat with bones

• Food containing large stones or seeds

• Food in wrappers such as aluminum foil or cling film
