The NOKIA 1600 uses several access codes to protect the device and SIM card:

The security code helps protect your phone against unauthorized use. The preset code is 12345.

The PIN code is supplied with the SIM card and protects the card against unauthorized use.

The PIN2 code is supplied with some SIM cards and is required to access certain services.

PUK and PUK2 codes are used to unlock the phone if you enter the PIN or PIN2 code incorrectly three times in a row. If you do not have these codes, contact your service provider.

To manage these settings, select Menu, then Settings, then Security settings.

Follow these steps to set up your NOKIA 1600:

Step 1. Press the back cover release button, open the back cover, and remove it.

Step 2. Lift the battery from the finger grip and remove it.

Step 3. Carefully lift the SIM card holder from the finger grip of the phone.

Step 4. Insert the SIM card, ensuring that the beveled corner is on the upper right side and the golden contact is facing downward.

Step 5. Close the SIM card holder and press it to lock it into place.

Step 6. Insert the battery by aligning the contacts and pushing it into the compartment.

Step 7. Replace the back cover.

Step 1. Connect the charger to a standard AC wall outlet.

Step 2. Connect the plug from the charger to the jack located on the bottom of the NOKIA 1600.

Step 3. The battery indicator bar will start scrolling on the screen. If “Not charging” is displayed, disconnect the charger, wait a while, and try again.

Step 4. When the battery is fully charged, the bar stops scrolling. Disconnect the charger from the phone and then from the AC outlet.

To lock the keypad to prevent accidental key presses while the NOKIA 1600 is in standby mode, select Menu and then press the star key (*) quickly.

To unlock the keypad, select Unlock and then press the star key (*) quickly.

To make a call: Enter the phone number including the area code. Press the call key to initiate the call. During the call, you can scroll right to increase or left to decrease the volume of the earpiece or headset.

To answer a call: Press the call key when the phone rings.

To reject a call: Press the end key without answering.

To use the loudspeaker: During a call, select Loudspeaker or Hands. if available. Do not hold the device near your ear when the loudspeaker is in use as the volume may be extremely loud.

The NOKIA 1600 provides two ways to enter text:

Traditional text input: Press the key marked with the letter you want repeatedly until the character appears.

Predictive text input: This uses a built-in dictionary. To turn it on, select Options, then Dictionary, and choose your language. To enter a word, press each key once for a single letter. If the word is correct, press 0 to confirm and start the next word. If the word is incorrect, press the star key (*) repeatedly to view other matches.

Tips for writing text:

To add a space, press 0.

To change text input methods, press the pound key (#) repeatedly and check the indicator at the top of the display.

To add a number, press and hold the desired number key.

To access special characters, press the star key (*) during traditional input or press and hold the star key (*) during predictive input.

Step 1. In standby mode, select Menu, then Messages, and then Create message.

Step 2. Write your message using the keypad.

Step 3. To send the message, select Options and then Send.

Step 4. Enter the recipient’s phone number or retrieve it from Contacts, then select OK.

The NOKIA 1600 internal phone book can store up to 200 names. You can perform the following actions:

To search for a contact: Scroll down in standby mode and enter the first letters of the name, then scroll to the specific name you want.

To add a contact: In the Contacts menu, select Add contact to save a name and number.

To delete contacts: Select Delete to remove names individually or all at once.

To copy contacts: Select Copy to move entries between the phone memory and SIM card memory.

To check memory status: Select Menu, then Contacts, then Settings, and then Memory status to see how much space is available.

The NOKIA 1600 registers missed, received, and dialed calls when it is switched on and within the network service area.

To view call duration: Select Menu, then Call register, and then Call duration. You can view the length of the last call, all received calls, all dialed calls, or the total duration of all calls.

To reset timers: Select Clear timers, enter your security code, and select OK.

Step 1. In standby mode, select Menu, then Clock.

Step 2. Select Alarm time and enter the time you want the alarm to sound.

Step 3. Select Alarm tone to choose the sound for the alarm.

Step 4. Select Repeat alarm to set it for specific days of the week.

Step 5. When the alarm sounds, select Stop to turn it off or Snooze to have it ring again in 10 minutes.

If the NOKIA 1600 is switched off when the alarm time is reached, it will automatically switch itself on and start the alarm.

To use the Calculator: Select Menu, then Extras, and then Calculator. Use keys 0 to 9 for digits and the pound key (#) for a decimal point. Scroll up or down to choose a mathematical operation (plus, minus, multiply, or divide). Select Equals to get the result.

To use the Converter: Select Menu, then Extras, and then Converter. You can convert Temperature, Weight, Length, Area, Volume, and Currency. Select Last 5 conv. to see your recent conversions or My conversions to add your own.

You can check the authenticity of a NOKIA 1600 battery by inspecting the hologram label:

Step 1. Look at the hologram. From one angle, you should see the Nokia connecting hands symbol. From another angle, you should see the Nokia Original Enhancements logo.

Step 2. Angle the hologram left, right, down, and up. You should see 1, 2, 3, and 4 dots on each side respectively.

Step 3. Scratch the side of the label to reveal a 20 digit code. You can use this code to verify the battery through official Nokia verification channels via text message.

To keep your NOKIA 1600 in good working condition, follow these suggestions:

Keep the device dry. If it gets wet, remove the battery and let the phone dry completely before replacing it.

Do not use or store the device in dusty or dirty areas, as moving parts can be damaged.

Do not store the device in hot areas. High temperatures can shorten the life of electronic components and damage the battery.

Do not store the device in cold areas, as moisture can form inside when the device warms back up to its normal temperature.

Do not attempt to open the device other than as instructed in the guide.

Do not drop, knock, or shake the device, as rough handling can break internal circuit boards.

Do not use harsh chemicals or strong detergents to clean the device.

Step 1. Ensure the NOKIA 1600 is switched on and in service with adequate signal strength.

Step 2. Press the end key as many times as needed to clear the display and return to the start screen.

Step 3. Enter the official emergency number for your location (for example, 911, 112, or another local emergency number).

Step 4. Press the call key. Give your location as accurately as possible and do not end the call until given permission to do so.

Note: Some networks may require a valid SIM card to be properly inserted before an emergency call can be made.
