Registration is required for warranty activation and support. Follow these steps to register your NETGEAR XS512EMV2:

1. From a computer or mobile device that is connected to the Internet, visit my.netgear.com.

2. Log in to your NETGEAR account. NOTE: If you don’t have a free NETGEAR account, you can create one. The Your Registered Products page displays.

3. Click the REGISTER NEW PRODUCT button.

4. In the SERIAL NUMBER field, type the serial number of your switch. The serial number is 13 digits long. It is printed on the switch label.

5. From the PURCHASE DATE menu, select the date that you purchased the switch.

6. Click the REGISTER button.

Your switch is registered to your NETGEAR account. A confirmation email is sent to your NETGEAR account email address.

The NETGEAR XS512EMV2 is designed for indoor use only. If you want to connect it to a device located outdoors, the outdoor device must be properly grounded and surge protected, and you must install an Ethernet surge protector inline between the switch and the outdoor device. Failure to do so can damage the switch.

To use an SFP+ port on your NETGEAR XS512EMV2, you must insert either a 10G SFP+ or 1G SFP transceiver module, which is available from NETGEAR. The NETGEAR Easy Smart Managed Switch model XS724EMv2 switch supports only two 10G copper modules.

The LEDs on the NETGEAR XS512EMV2 indicate the status of the switch. When you connect the power cord to the switch and plug it into an electrical outlet, the LEDs indicate the status as follows:

For optimal performance, it is recommended that you use a Category 5e (Cat 5e) or higher-rated Ethernet cables terminated with RJ-45 connectors. The following table describes the network cables that you can use for the switch connections and the speeds that these cables can support, up to 328 feet (100 meters).

You can discover and access your NETGEAR XS512EMV2 using the NETGEAR Discovery Tool (NDT). Follow these steps:

1. Download the NETGEAR Discovery Tool (NDT). Depending on the computer that you are using, download either the Mac or Windows version.

2. Temporarily disable the firewall, Internet security, antivirus programs, or all of these on the computer that you use to configure the switch.

3. Unzip the NDT files, and click or double-click the Setup.exe file to install the program on your computer. You might see the tool icon appear on your Mac dock or Windows desktop.

4. Connect the switch to your router or network.

5. Power on the switch.

6. Connect your computer to the same network as the switch.

7. Open the NDT. The initial page displays a menu and a button.

8. From the Choose a Connection menu, select the network for this switch.

9. Click the Start Searching button. The NDT displays the IP addresses of the switches that it discovers.

10. Click the ADMIN PAGE button. The login page or login window of the device UI opens.

11. Enter the default password that is printed on the label of the switch.

12. If prompted, enter a new admin password for the switch. The Switch Information page displays, and shows the IP address assigned to the switch.

13. Save the password and IP address for future use.

14. Reenable the security services on your computer.

It is recommended that you use the rack-mount brackets and screws that are supplied with the switch. To rack-mount your NETGEAR XS512EMV2, follow these steps:

1. Attach the supplied mounting brackets to the side of the switch. Insert the two screws through each bracket and into the bracket mounting holes in the switch.

2. Tighten the screws with a No. 2 Phillips screwdriver to secure each bracket.

3. Align the mounting holes in the brackets with the holes in the rack, and insert two pan-head screws with nylon washers through each bracket and into the rack.

4. Tighten the screws with a No. 2 Phillips screwdriver to secure mounting brackets to the rack.
